Just a suggestion - don't drive while wearing an MD lab coat. If you are in a fender bender, the last thing you want to do is to advertise you are a physician -- to avoid the "hey, a doctor just scratched my car syndrome." If you are wearing a lab coat to get out of a traffic ticket - a strategically placed stethoscope on the passenger seat will do the same trick.
This is less useful in our Googfacetwittergramlinkedin/online world. Since you're supposed to swap info with a car accident, finding out that she's a physician and where she works is but one simple Google search for her name away.
I really enjoy these types of videos. I can see these types of videos being very beneficial to educating myself on other specialties. I would love to see more!
Absolutely love this series! I’m also finishing my UCLA neuroscience degree this quarter and can’t wait to keep going forward! This series does a great job of exposing me to different contexts of medicine; there are stark differences between Dr. Jayan & Dr. McKnight that are all worth considering. Looking forward to the next one!
I work as a hospitalist and my schedule is 7 days on 7 days off, and also get two weeks of PTO (vacation), which lets me have 3 consecutive weeks off, twice a year. That allows me to have enough time to travel abroad for vacation. I work from 8 am to 5-6 pm. I make $300K a year.
Auc student as well, wanting to match into IM. I really enjoyed your video and I think it is very insightful to those wanting to know more about the life of a hospitalist and those considering Caribbean schools. Thank you for making this video
You seem like an intelligent, caring doctor. Thanks for the video. On a side note, hospitals in the southeastern US are inundated with patients who have IVDA related illnesses like endocarditis, cutaneous abscesses, epidural abscess/discitis, etc. On any given day, a significant portion of my patients are these. I hope your region is not so affected.
Wow, this is so inspiring, thank you for sharing these videos! I am doing my medical internship and I'm on call for 36 hours in the hospital (so I felt kind of identified), I'll graduate from Med School in July and these stories really keep me motivated to achieve my dreams 😊 Hope you have one video about Day in the Life in #Neurology or #Neurosurgery
Wow...this was great! Thank you...I didn't know about the hospitalist speciality. It sounds like something that would suit my personality. And she went to a Caribbean medical school...very interesting. I am a non traditional student and I was thinking of using your services at Med school Insiders...I like the content that you put out. It shows a lot of caring, effort and hard work. Thank you.
My niece is Hospitalist in Chicago, she loves it she just finished her residency. Not sure what specialty she has chosen, but she likes being a Hospitalist.
What our healthcare practitioners do is nothing short of a challenge. I served in the Army and now work as a truck driver delivering fuel. That might be a tough career, but I believe doctors and nurses deal with the most grueling of all tasks in the workforce. That is just my opinion.
just found this channel, I enjoy the videos. good inside on things. I currently work in the ICU and I am a nurse practitioner student in the bay area. I find these videos interesting, like behind the scenes of what people do not really see in reality. keep it up
I was a VP at a major medical recruiting firm before I struck out on my own. And, doctors 100% perplex me with the uniform personality thing. Is that just a result of who survives the grind of med school having similar personalities?
As someone else commented on driving with a white labcoat. I’m an out patient Gen Internist and I’ve never wore a lab coat in the car. But I think she did it mostly for the video and seriously around 6.30 very few people out on the road, which is another plus doing Hospitalist work, which is what I’m considering switching. Longer shifts, good pay, hardly any follow ups (although I’m sure some repeats like Panc/etoh patients might occur) and just imagine that most Fibromyalgia patients hopefully stay behind in clinics...what a relief and then fewer commutes with less traffic, less sitting. Then on a week off I can hit the gym for 7 days straight. Oh yeah....😀. So yes I might make the switch. Impressive this pretty attending did a foreign medical school and still managed to get employed at a hospital. Impressive! I’m a US medical graduate and did a UC Residency, but am practicing crappy out patient Medicine mostly part time. So watching this video realize I should be able to make the switch.
grass is always greener. I have to work nights, weekends, and holidays where outpatient you avoid all that. OTOH i have good hours for the most part. Typical non-call day for me today where I rounded on my 12 patients from 9:00 to 12:00 and went home to have lunch with my wife. Documented at home for another hour or so and was done for the day besides a few pages here and there.
wouldn't recommend going to a Caribbean school if at all possible, the US born IMG average match rate is 50-60%, less for any sort of competitive residency. Those students that can't get in a residency are paying back >$200k loans without a means to pay it
Great to see my city look so beautiful. They Bay area is a great place. She seems like a nice doctor. Most present nice but have horrible bed side manner
You encouragers me a lot . I’m in high school now I always watched it make me so inspired me !! Please share more videos how is the first year radiany ?
Did she ever try applying to DO programs before making the decision to go to the Caribbean? And if so, why did she not go that route? I feel like since the DO and MD merger, international students are going to be put at an even bigger disadvantage when applying for residency programs.
A. This was prior to the merger B. From her words alone she jumped the gun and applied to the Carrib. prior to even waiting a cycle to reapply and/or applying DO. C. Why did she do this? Likely to get the MD initials behind her name. Or maybe she didn't hear of D.O.
yup, makes life a lot easier when you can ctrl + f the symptoms in your obscure medical conditions volume and figure out the zebra cases in hours instead of years lol

I was just gonna say that!
a model 3 is like $40k lol. You dont need to be a doctor to have one.

veganlifethebestlife Caribbean MDs get worse matches than US DO’s. If you can only get FM as a DO, you wouldn’t do any better as a Caribbean
@veganlifethebestlife that’s not true. I know plenty of DO who subspecialize. I matched into an MD radiology program as a DO grad before I got sick.
Do you also admit patients from the ED when you round and if so when do you do that in your shift.
So the reasoning for going to the Caribbean is to have a better chance of getting accepted? Do they accept more students or have lower requirements?
It’s a legit business. They accept tons of students but weed them out through rigorous tests and exams.
