I have been pretty down and out as of late from burnout/stress which is de-motivating me to study/work hard. Watched the entire video and I’m thankful that I did. Dr. Rutland, your energy is pervasive and your attitude is wonderful. I’m watching this video right now, preparing myself for the journey I will experience in undergrad, and trying to understand whether or not I should embark on the premed path. Though I’m still uncertain, you’ve certainly convinced me that it is possible to be a doctor with hunger and passion, a fear that was previously concerning me. So once again, thank you. I will update you in the future if I do decide on the path you’ve inspired me to consider!

Literally the reason I decided to go to CNA school and hopefully go to LPN from there. I'm so tired of not learning while I work, especially the topics that interest me. Thank you so much for sharing, it's nice to hear you say all this. Inspirational!

have you ever thought of being a motivational speaker or doing a ted talk? I feel like you will have a profound effect on people, especially those who are on their long journey to becoming a doctor. Personally im heading into my second year in my undergrad degree as a pre-med, all my other friends are into easier programs so they party every weekend and are dumbfounded by how much i study, so instead of me striving to be better I sometimes say hey my friend doing an english major only studied 2 hours and finished and ive been at it for 5 and am nowhere near done.... that gets me unmotivated although biology and medicine is my passion. Hearing you talk and your mentality towards life and success really does make me fall in love again with my hardworking and dedicated side, so from all of us, Do a ted talk and thank you x

I had a chance to shadow a pulmonary critical care doctor. They encounter some of the most dire cases in medicine. It can be emotionally taxing but it also feels very rewarding to help people who are on the edge of death, from what I observed. Props to these doctors!
