These videos are really healing to me. I watched this show obsessively when I was about 12, and I couldn't see how awful the judges and Mr. Jay were to the girls. I totally normalized it and internalized it and that probably contributed to me being so hard on myself and having body issues
Personally, I think Mr. Jay is mostly mean compared to the judges
Same I used to idolize this show but watching it now it just shows the catty character and almost forcing these women to just accept it while either giving them an eating disorder or a mental disorder due to the judges causing these already beautiful women trauma

They really went out of their WAY to put a narrative on this episode. Giving Hannah such vague instruction and "the chance" by having her shoot use two locations. Showering Molly with praise for basically everything she did. The warning to Alexandria and her response and making sure the photographer said something, too. And giving Brittani the up and down of not feeling well and then working through more difficult photoshoot conditions.
But then also making sure to choose less than ideal photos for some of them (you can't tell me Brittani didn't have a photo that was just as good where both her arms can be seen) and comment on the exact same things as Jay at the shoot. "You look lost" "I don't see a story" etc. This episode is so heavily crafted into a narrative they may as well give everyone a script.
Brittani was doing so good and acing every single shoot, so when they went overseas, they had to give her a narrative of going downhill, so they began picking meh pics for her.
They praised every Molly did and she was so unpleasant all the time.
At this point, this show is no longer a reality TV show, it’s a psychological thriller… the way they psychologically mess with these girls is frightening.
The don't just mess with the girls they manipulate the viewers so much. Trying to brainwash their narrative into our brain...
I want someone to share the winners contracts. The show had to choose which modeling jobs they could accept, and none of them could ever outshine Tyra's career.
There's NO way that was Britney's best photo! You can't tell me that an amazing photographer didn't get a better photo

Brittani wasn’t best photo! It’s clipped out of the video, just because of where Jessica happened to pause it-but Molly had best photo! Brittani was runner up.
It’s weird because when I looked it up a while back it’s like, the Wikipedia page for the SHOW has it that Brittani won that episode. BUT on ALEXANDRIA’S Wikipedia page it says that Molly did. Based on my memory from seeing it air on Tv and the footage Jessica showed-I fully believe it was Molly. Or else I’m crazy 😅

Alexandria's photo was my fav! It really felt the most "immerse yourself into the culture" which is the brief they wanted. It felt so cinematic and beautiful.

I just want to say thank you for posting your thoughts on this show. As an impressionable teen I watched this and spiraled into an ED. I'm still struggling almost 20 years later. Your commentary has been helping heal that part of my brain that associated this show with beauty. My daughters are going to get a healthier mom much quicker because of this unintended side effect of your videos for me. Thank you so much and you are a gorgeous person inside and out

The lady judge that we love is Paulina Porizkova. She was another of the supermodel squad back in the day. She was comparable to Janice Dickenson, Naomi Campbell, Tyra, Heidi Klum. Paulina has chosen to age naturally, without cosmetic surgery. She's been in some magazine/news articles talking about that. She's been a judge, or "professor" on top model alot. Ms. Paulina always seems to be such a kind sweet person.
“What is this fear factor?” 😂I’m convinced that Top model was just Fear Factor with “fashion” after rewatching the series as an adult.🤷🏾♀️
They were always putting Lexie down, she came for the All-Stars season, where Mr. Jay continues to pick her on, which is extremely uncomfortable to watch. He keeps saying to the other guests that she is the "controlling one", very unprofessional. I think she deserved to go further.. but she was set up to be the "mean girl" of this season, so this is the far that she was allowed to go.
I feel bad for Alexandria. It was obvious the show went out their way to make her the main villain. I get it, I know Alexandria wasn't a saint, but at the same time, she wasn't really that much a villain. I feel like she was misunderstood, in my opinion.

I don't even think she was misunderstood. Alexandria was confident, and knew her body and that drove Brittani and Molly crazy and they grouped up on her, and then because Brittani had more on her side the edits tried to make Alexandria look like the villain, despite the fact that she didn't do anything to earn her role as the villain.
There is no way in hell that was Brittani's best photo.

It's not meanness, it's called producing. Producers ask him to frame things in certain ways so narratives emerge. Not saying it's not mean, but it's moreso a reflection of the show as a whole than just Jay
@@willem9538 this, I personally feel like Jay was a pawn of the producers. His job had a purpose outside of just watching them take photos and give the few modeling directions he gave. I think his job was also to do the bidding of producers or whoever was in charge od that aspect, they would ask him to stir up stuff, say things to influence the girls. Just my opinion but the thought occurred to me when I first started rewatching the show later on in life.

Producers also made Brittani and Molly (one of them was vegetarian) work and haul a wagon of assorted butchered animals because they were vegetarian.

They did the same "too much control" narrative on Elina (Cycle 11), putting her in the bottom 2 twice in a row. The third time she was the bottom 2, they eliminated her.
Elina is my all-time favorite on the show. Her face was mesmerizing.
Alexandra's picture was really good.
I remember being so excited that they chose Morocco as their international destination for that season because I had friends there and had traveled there. It is a place that gets into your soul. ❤
I don't know this to be 100% true, but Brittani definitely said they started punishing the girls for losing challenges. Now I don't know if this was punishment or not, you know how they edit, but I would not voluntarily eat that!
I remember this. Molly actually backed Brittani's story in her chat with Oliver Twixt. She said they made the girls who lost a challenge clean up parts of dead goat bodies and that freaked Brittani out and she did end up throwing up after eating the goat brains

I watched this cycle recently this was a really messy season all around; from the tricking the girls into thinking they didn't initially make it into the house (and tricking the girls who didn't make it into thinking they did) to cutting off all of Molly's hair at the last second for her to lose to Brittany and everything inbetween. Yeah I don't get all the hate for Alexandria. I deal with people worse than her on a daily and no one says anything lol. IDK I think she is the most interesting one and I could see myself being friends w. her lol. A lot of it was jealousy and mood swings, everyone is human :)
The beat down of Alexandria was now complete- now the mean girls can let it go the week before graduation- uggh Regina George energy throughout
Conde Nast is the publishing company that owns Vogue and Traveler. I think Tyra meant Alexandria's photo looked more of a tourism ad for Morocco than a shoot for a fashion magazine.

Jessica! I honestly get happier when I see she's posted, both her ANTM and her photography. We get to see her interact with diverse people and treat models respectfully. She's such a nice and inclusive person. Plus, omg she's so beautiful.
I love watching her photography videos. Its so fun when other people around her and the model on the street get involved in the shoot in fun ways.
Jessica thank you for these videos, and for your photography photo shoots too, they've really helped me get through a recent breakup that I went through, I don't know if you realize how talented, kindhearted and hilarious you really are, and how beautiful you are too. To be fair, earlier in the season Alexandria was too controlling, even ordering the staff around and some of the production team during photoshoots and whatnot. I vaguely remember it getting so bad that they even complained to Tyra, though how extreme all of it was is debateable. She did seem to loosen up towards the end though, aFter Tyra confronted her about it, but it's reality tv. Who really knows what's true and what's not?

Yeah, this shoot alone, I would have said Hannah too. I think Jessica hinted at this but Alexandria really was set up here. She was the only one posing with literallly nothing. Just standing on the street. (and I still think looked amazing!) The other girls at least had the door or something. They just wanted her gone, as per usual...
I have watched a number of these reaction videos and I have come to the conclusion that this show was just Aw-Ful!!! I hope that all the contestants involved are mentally healthy today and that they received the help they needed after being traumatised on this show.

Listen, I am well aware of how important not insulting your hosts is when it comes to food. But I also know there is no way in heck my body wouldn't react exactly how Brittani's did. It's involuntary. Your throat closes, your entire stomach heaves, and you feel like you're going to vom in the loudest way possible. No way.
I 100% agree with this, I probably wouldn’t have eaten this because I know it would have triggered my gag reflexes.
I throw up so easily from chronic illness. And we really don’t know how much pressure was on brittani behind the scenes “to not be rude”.
Think we need to be more understanding about other people’s dietary requirements.

I'm convinced the show asks the photographers who work with them for shoots to give them 2 pictures of each model. Their best, and their worst, and then from there they choose which they will show as their "best" during judging.
Molly>Alexandria>Hannah>Brittani (based on chosen photos), this would be my ranking 😊 It seems Hannah struggled because she had to be in constant movement

They did the same with Elina from Cycle 11. They put on her the "control freak" narrative and throughout the cycle you could see how tired and uncomfortable she was!.
"Can you translate that for us peasants?" Jessica, I got what you meant immediately. Being in the business, I knew exactly what Tyra Banks is saying. Unfortunately, one of my pet peeves always with this show is how they ("The Judges") always threw out these insider bon mots but never explained what it means in layman's terms to these models. In past episodes, you can literally see in their model faces. "Huh. What did you say?" As a model manager, it's okay to give a witty description. But also, as an agent/businessperson, you have to explain so your model gets the "I got it!" For example, I would have said afterward."What is needed is for you to think more VOGUE editorial features with your face and body and less J. CREW catalog." I think she will get it immediately. Don't ever underestimate the intelligence of your model.

Hey Jessica, I'm wondering if you reacted to episode 6 from cycle 18. The models shot music videos and before they shot the videos, they had a “booty tooch” lesson from Tyra where they had to wear butt pads. One of the models refused to wear them and she later got eliminated.
Oh my god this is the first time I’ve heard someone else having a throw up journal and food journal because they throw up so much!! I hope you figure out what’s causing it soon!! I knew they’d send her home. The talk the Jay guy gave her beforehand said it all. But I think it should’ve been Hannah.
Jay has given this “pep talk” to several girls before, with varying results. With Ann (Cycle 3) and Alexandria (16), they would come to set really excited and ready to roll, and his little speech was like a bucket of cold water on them. It completely set the mood and they were off, and he acted like it was because he was right and not a self-fulfilling prophecy. Sometimes a girl could take it and use it as motivation, like Fatima (10)-once he tried it and she gave an amazing photoshoot performance, and he had to take it back. Probably justified it to himself as “well some girls can take criticism as motivation, others just can’t handle it.” Ugh 😑
I could be wrong but I think there was an episode where Alixandria kept moving/trying to move the photographers lights? 📸 so maybe that's where the "controlling" thing started then they ran 🏃♀️ with it bc u know how petty the judges are lol. But I also wanna say thank u for making these videos - ur the best 💕
This is so interesting! I found you from your photography tutorials, now I notice you seem to only post Reaction videos, very interesting seeing this transition but it seems that its still doing well for your channel, so kudos to you!! :) Do what makes you happy, I still personally prefer the photography tutorials, but thats also like on my channel people liked the hair videos when I wanted to branch out. Keep doing what brings you joy!

it would be really cool if you did a series where you found hi-res versions of the final pictures from ANTM episodes and then tried to fix them through editing 😂like toning/cropping/etc
He gives them the speech to set up the storyline because reality tv is fake. The producers have a way they want things to go and it’s Mr. J’s job to eff with them and make the story happen. Plus it causes us to root for or against the person. Like rooting that she doesn’t act too controlled or whatever.

I do disagree a little. Most likely the girls did have some preassure from the production to eat brain.
Also, if you throw up from eating somethig as mild as hummus, brain can do much tricks to your stomach.
Brains are mostly lipids, so fat, it can get bad fast.
Also they have the stress and jetlag to add.
Lets not compare stomach issues. They are always bad, and it must be bad for you too, like you said, so please, have compassion, you know what its like.

I think they should allow the guest photographers the courtesy of choosing the pictures. I would be embarrassed to have the shots losing an arm or leg broadcast on tv as my best work. You cant tell me that these were the best shots,they are just chosen to fit a pre- determined narrative and to cause drama.

I think you can't judge models just by the way they were represented in the show. I'm quite sure producers told them how to act, and their real personalities didn't show.

Yes, Brittani ate the brains voluntarily, but if she’s sick, she’s sick. Her eating the food by choice doesn’t mean that she’s not allowed to be ill or voice her concerns about it.

Hmm, interesting. It's curious to me how much performing Mr Jay appears to be doing at 4:55 and on, with Miss "Cinnabon" Hannah. I don't usually see him flirt that much with anybody of any gender, never mind a contestant. Could just be due to carefully selected shots, as they all are with this show, but the energy he's giving off there is very odd.
Jessica, if you're having issues with vomiting, I hope you've seen a doctor for it. As a person with Digestive issues it can help a lot. I love your videos!
In her defence I would be stuck as to what to do. I wouldn’t eat brain to begin with because I would likely gag too. Then I’m in the position of insulting someone’s culture because I don’t want to try the “delicacy” and if I do try it, I insult them by not being able to eat it. Rock and a hard place.

Have you looked into GERD and other similar stomach issues? Your symptoms sound similar to my son's and his dad and they have it. They use antacids which helps. Hope you find a fix soon Jessica ❤️

On Oliver’s chat, Molly says that she and Brittany had to do a challenge where they put dead carcasses on a cart and pulled them to a shop where they unloaded them. It’s not shown for good reason.
This Show, looking back at it .....was so toxic for some many reasons . It was so dangerous more than survivor for real ☠️
