    I love the stuff you do, real jujutsu. Not just throws like judo, not overly fround focused like bjj, not magical chi compliance like aikido. Real, well rounded combat grappling. *Chefs Kiss*

    I have a question . I trying decide between 2 schools. 1 is yoshin ryu jujutsu koryu ju taijutsu. I believe they train very tradition kata, Waza. Or a genbukan ninpo taijutsu school that has become ten chi wa taijutsu, basically traditional jujutsu but modern applications similar to what you're doing, kata waza traing then randori application training.
    The first is basically samurai bujutsu school. While I'm intrigued with the traditional way I do want waste time if can't be effective in self defense. Thanks,

    TRITAC Martial Arts, this is very interesting. I always think that aiki jujitsu, koryu jujutsu, aikido, hapkido, etc are impractical and weak, but when you have a good base in styles like bjj, I think these TMA style's techniques may suppliment and even surprise people in the circuit.
    Good example is Shinya Aoki's fight where he broke his opponent's arm with a standing armlock. It was a low percentage move when used against an athletic and educated opponent in a fast-moving environment, but opponent did expect such thing in the first place.

    • @RWGeorge
      @RWGeorge 3 роки тому

      It's a common misunderstanding that they are impractical. Much of the jujutsu we see today actually comes from Koryu Jujutsu, which was taken from edged weapons systems. The throws (which were done a bit differently than demonstrated in this video) were done against armed opponents and came from actual battlefield use. The reason why most of the koryu jujutsu examples look weak is because it has mostly turned into a historical practice that hasn't adapted to modern-day situations. Some have adapted, however, and remain practical.

    • @alter5057
      @alter5057 3 роки тому

      @@RWGeorge Koryu jujutsu, aikido, hapkido all have their place. They are legit. I saw more than one BJJ practitioners that confirmed that they work. However, are these styles effective by themselves? Answer would be no. Aikido has lots of similarities with koryu jujutsu. I saw an aikido master fight multiple times in an amateur mma (Strelka) against different styles. Any style based on koryu jujutsu will not work effectively even against strikers with no grappling background from what I saw. He was defeated over and over, unable to execute any techniques well, and the master even had trouble maintaining balance.
      Only time I saw aikido "defeat" boxing, tkd, mma was when either the other party sparred in slow pace to allow aikidoka to do his moves or when "mma" guy played in what it seemed like a worked match to lose to aikidoka, who did not even use aikido to win.
      I think the tma styles I mentioned have their place similar to what you stated, because they influenced other more effective styles that came later on, but those tma styles by themselves cannot provide effective form of fighting style nor self defense. Just coming from my research and observation.

    • @RWGeorge
      @RWGeorge 3 роки тому +1

      @@alter5057 Well said. That's also my experience - they haven't adapted with the times in most cases, and thus do not have an answer for strikers. Aikido, having come from Ueshiba Morihei's study of Daito Ryu with Takeda Sokaku, has a semblance of that left, but that depends on the style and it has been greatly watered down since then. But the movement is not kori movement, nor is the philosophy oriented to combatives, weapons training, or effective striking and, as you noted, cannot provide an effective form of dealing with most situations in its own paradigm.
