    Japanese jujitsu is more practical than BJJ in the streets and it looks you can use it in multiple opponents since it's standing.

    First fantastic video and very well done. As. 5th Dan in Japanese Jujitsu (originally Yoshin-Ryu) a submission grappling coach since 94 and currently a Blue belt (2 stripe lol) in BJJ we practice “JiuJitsu Fusion” were we combine both Japanese and Brazilian together here in Halifax Nova Scotia. It’s a fantastic mix of both sport and Self-defence and since most of us are over 50 we train slow and steady with no agenda. Your approach is great and it reminds me I have to get off my butt and but redo my old U tube channel that’s way out of date. Again all the best to you and look forward to watching your videos 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    Well intended. Useful tips. Jiujutsu is a very deep pool. Smart people study deeply, find value and adopt/adapt 技 to expand and sharpen their skills. Like anything, you have to drill this like mad to be able to recognize, react and execute. My own training is Aikido (Little Tokyo LA and Tokyo), BJJ (LA, London and Beijing), Judo (London), Iaido (US/Japan), Krav Maga. 34 years. You need a strong foundation in ONE art ... and then you can learn and add from others. All you need are an open mind, deep study and relentless training.

      @@rodneymance1139 Good question. Thanks. There are always exceptions, but yes. My personal experience and observing others is that it is very easy to end up a mile wide and an inch deep in skill and understanding. Better to learn something really well - drill, drill, drill - and create a solid foundation. Then when you do train in other arts, forget what you think you know and just watch and copy your teacher. Don't try to hard to combine them ... in time they will be expressed organically in synthesis, if you do sparring for example.

      i saw these techniques used in JJJ schools, especially Daito Ryu. Aikido and hapkido also has these types of techniques. People who did bjj tried it and confirmed that they work, but when you have fully resisting opponent, techniques you see in cage fights, boxing, kickboxing, submission grappling, amateur wrestling etc are more practical followed by TMA arts like karate, kajukenbo, and tkd to aid those conventional styles used. If you use these koryu japanese jujutsu techniques (Im not talking about those "japanese jujutsu schools" where they encorporated ground fighting because those are actually western jujutsu schools. Im talking about hardcore JJJ schools where training is based on kata and ground fighting is lacking) people from karate, tkd, kenpo or even wing chun can potentially defeat you.
      Im not saying styles with these techniques or mentioned styles are BS but they are not practical styles with high precentage moves, they just look that way when you have a compliant partner who is not moving or fighting back with full force. This is good to know since people who have faith in these techniques see a nasty surprise in real fights. Russian street fight style mma orgainzation, Strelka, has fights where Aikido master tries to pull of these moves and gets beat up in one fight after another.

    • @varanid9
      @varanid9 3 роки тому +1

      @@alter5057 That's because Aikido's techniques come from a style that is predominantly concerned with fighting a swordsman while unarmed in order to take his sword, not really meant for hand-to-hand. Also, Aikido was never meant to be a fighting art, Uyeshiba wanted it to be a form of moving interactive zen; that's why he stopped doing Aikijujitsu.

    • @alter5057
      @alter5057 3 роки тому

      @@varanid9 koryu jujutsu, daito ryu, aikido, hapkido all have techniques against sword and barehand. Takenouchi Ryu was mainly hand to hand combat. Yoshin Ryu was created by commoner. They all have bare hand to weapon and hand to hand techniques. However, if sparring is lacking for most part, with exceptions of hapkido, few aikido schools, kito ryu, etc., they simply cant stand on their own in a fight.
      Even if you have hapkido, aikido, or kito ryu which spars, they are overall less effective than even stand up martial arts. Among them, I saw hapkido defeat kung fu in some cases, but strikers are better than these schools.
      There is a reason why kenpo (quan fa in chinese) became popular in japan in 1500s or 1600s. Striking techniques proved to be more useful than these for-the-most-part standing submissions and kata based techniques.

    Great video and it emphasises for me something i have thought about a lot. I feel what a lot of these arts miss is that standing joint locks do work, but only in two situations.
    1) where the attacker is not actively fighting and throwing punches and you want to restrain them
    2) if they are fighting you need to first strike them to stun them, then the lock can be applied. Otherwise catching a punching arm mid air to lock it is very hard to do. And thats why nobody takes aikido seriously. However jujitsu and ninjitsu seem to both emphasise the strike then lock approach. Ninjitsu in particular likes to strike the carotid then put on a lock or throw

Even though the style I've trained is not the same as the one shown it could just as well have been. Almost all techniques shown is basically the same. Sure the entries varies a little bit (we favor "ura shotoken" or angled hammer fist instead of elbows), some of the angles favored are slightly different but the rest is the same. The some of the points made by the instructor is also the same. This despite being a totally different style :-) Wonderful to see :-)

      @Picaro Sanshiro Kobukai would be considered an offshoot from Danza Ryu or Daito Ryu, Shihan is 7th degree in both.
      From those curriculums Kobukai was born, but followed the 'ethos' of traditional JJJ, with modern application.
      It's still Japanese Jujutsu, just not an original Ryu.

    • @deangullberry5148

      @Picaro Sanshiro I wish people would approach BJJ with the same analytical approach. It's a bit of a long story, but it's nothing more than (Japanese) Fuzen Ryu rebranded. I don't knock the art, I love it, and it's the only way to learn Fuzen since it's a dead art. I just wish there was a little more integrity in the hype.

    • @hardcaliber19
      @hardcaliber19 3 роки тому

      @Picaro Sanshiro The bigger question is why are people obsessed with the idea that only "traditional" styles are valid? The koryu systems are all evolutions of earlier systems. They are not magical systems handed down by a higher being. The way the Japanese developed these systems is the same way they are developed today; taking what works (within the context of your system) and iterating upon it, and discarding what doesn't. Every technique I saw in this video is Japanese Jujutsu. Why does it matter what specific style it comes from? Would it suddenly be better if they had answered "Yoshin Ryu" or "Hakko Ryu" or any other koryu style? Would the techniques have suddenly become more effective? No.
      So it's a modern, western style. This does not make it inferior by default, and does not change the fact that the techniques are Japanese Jujitsu.
      Imho, I like the more realistic approach of most gendai jujitsu, rather than the ritualized kata of older styles. But to each their own.

    Combat jiujitsu…..correct! Having trained Japanese jujitsu for 34 yrs, BJJ for 15yrs as well as MMA, including catch and Muay, I’m not sure you can say jujitsu is jujitsu if it’s not trained with a combat mindset……after all this is the generic name the samurai gave to fighting techniques with no or light weapons. Jujitsu is the basis of all martial skills, you are the weapon, then you use whatever you have at hand to kill the enemy. In other words jujitsu has to be about combat and not just winning in sport. I believe Rickson Gracie may have said similar.
