Viewers: "You gonna feel some things today."
Omg so spot on...so proud yet as humble as possible xD
Absolutely spot on. It doesn't matter what ethnicity, sex, age, sexual preference or anything else. This version will get you in the feels.
In the 60's this was a warning, in 2020 it's a statement of fact!!!
Well said.
Prophetic
U‘r right bro. regards from germany
1:05 "I hope this isn't going to be depressing"
Buckle up.
lol
Depressing but poignant.
LOL the song is just that love it or don't listen...the best cover I have ever seen!
Buckle up, buckeroo
Buckle up this will kick a lot
I just can’t get over the lines “and the people bowed and prayed, to the neon gods they made”. Damn. With FB, Twitter, the Gram, etc that could have been written yesterday rather than half a century ago.
This song was written about 14 years after television started becoming popular and popping up in homes across the country. I think that is the neon god that people bowed & prayed to. ... and many Americans still do.
@@garrett6064 probably right. I just thought it is an amazing line.
@@markjohnston1769 I guess you should let Art Garfunkel know as he is going around in interviews saying it is about our inability to communicate on a deep emotional level. Paul Simon when asked where he came up with the lyrics said "I don't know."
This song was recorded three months after the JFK assassination but was written well before it.
See what a 10 second internet search can turn up, and it saves you from looking like a fool.
@KingKokos technology as advanced as we have now is more dangerous than any thing we have seen in the history of mankind. Before we know it we are slaves to the technograty.
And @@dennisivan85 the wannabe keyboard warrior shows up to defend his boyfriend with the comeback of a twelve year old. That ain't gonna cut it kid. Do better -or I'll just have to ignore your sorry @ss.
Many people have said that the original was a warning, and this is the fury because nobody listened.
Probably one of the best covers I've ever heard.
Next is hurt by John cash
@@lawrencesilver4661 Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt is better than the original to me.
I agree! This is so awesome!
Try PENTATONIX. They covered this...amazing acappella group. The beatbox is unbelievable. Try them out.

Gotta be top 5 and I just can't think of the other 4
I call this the angry version. When Paul Simon heard it he said it was the way it was meant to be sung and that it brought him to tears.
The bands original idea was to do a cover more in the style of the band. Someone suggested that they keep it mellow (relatively speaking) and this was the masterpiece that evolved. The live television version of this is even better.
@@MidwesternCornbilly Negative. David Draiman wanted to cover the song in different way. He wanted to put power into it. He only released it when he thought it was perfect.
@@MidwesternCornbilly The TV version from Conan's show was auto-tuned (Draiman has made that VERY clear). Done without his permission, even, but he had a cold that day -- slightly stuffed nose, rough throat, you know -- and the Powers-that-be said, "let there be auto-tune". Still well done, but there are a couple of other live versions on UA-cam that are superior to the Conan clip.
This version is 100 times better even Paul Simon said it's their song now.
@@masterv2041 Right. David thought that the band would do it like they have done other covers; with more power and an in-your-face approach. Danny Donegan was very adamant that they approach it differently.
“the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls, and tenement halls, and whispered in the sound of silence.” is one of my all time favourite lyrics.
Loved the song when it came out 56 years ago, but David takes it to a whole new level
did the exact same to land of confusion and the cover they brought out earlier this month
No he doesn’t !!!!
@@donaz4056 might not be your style but as with this one the person that originally did land of confusion said after hearing it the exact same thing that paul simon did about this cover.
Don Az how dumb do you sound... 🥴
His voice is just phenomenal... so is Paul Simon's, but this version is just through the roof. Awesome.
It's amazing how no one gets the silence at the beginning.
Every time
Disturbed turned this song from powerful lyrics to scripture. Absolutely prophetic. Amazing job.
The power of his voice hits you like a ton of bricks!
The last verse especially. "AND the people bowed and prayed". Beast
you said that right, i agree
No mountain of bricks 🔥🔥
This is one of my favorite songs, it's the one that really started me down the rabbit hole of UA-cam reaction videos, but no matter how many times I've heard it, I see one of my favorite reactors watched it and it went to the top of the list. I've heard it over a hundred times and it still gets me every time. Thank you, Empress.
Thank you Lee❤❤❤
I too went down the same rabbit hole with you about UA-cam reaction videos because of this song.
Being in my 60's, I remember hearing the original Simon & Garfunkel version on the radio frequently and I always liked it but it was mainly for Simon & Garfunkel's harmonies. It wasn't until I heard David Draiman sing it, that I actually understood what Paul Simon was trying to tell us almost 60 years ago.
This song and the live version on Conan O'Brien's show, quickly replaced my long time favorite, Nights In White Satin/Late Lament by the Moody Blues.
If I can't have Disturb's version of the Sound Of Silence played at my funeral, I am not coming.
Same Lee
I love this!! Just wow!! Seem to fit today.
Amazing how this song resonates Today . I’ve seen many reactions and every one of them at the end of the song the person has a tough time and has to catch their breath. All of them. What a song and what a voice
This is the song that made me realize what a cover can actually do. It's remarkable that it has the exact same lyrics as Simon and Garfunkel's folk ballad from the 60s, but it inspires a totally different feeling. The way David Draiman sings the lyrics, and the changes to the instrumentals, give the words a different meaning, so that listening to the cover is an entirely new experience. That, to me, is what a great cover should do: make you reconsider the song in a whole new light.
Yes, it is depressing, and sad. But with a message. although that message seems to have been lost for most.. A side from all of that. David delivers in spades. Such a voice
Fear, vision, loneliness, pleading to warn that we no longer communicate and praise false gods...neon lights and the Ad's written on subway walls by the "prophets". That's the message I get
"Too powerful for one person". Love it.
You’re so right. He sounds like a choir. So much overtone and range. That’s the perfect way to describe his amazing talent!
It was a truely beautiful experience watching the emotions evoked by this song play across your face. Thank you for sharing it with me.
Someone probably already pointed this out but Paul Simon wrote this as a teenager in his bathroom, in the dark, where he played and sang for it's acoustics.
Gives a little more personal meaning to the darkness being a friend that allowed him to create this song.
Best Sung Song Ever!!! Perfect arrangement Disturbed!!
Your reaction to this song is so pure. Your body language grasped everything his voice was pushing.
this is one of my favorite songs and no matter how many times i listen to it it always gives me goosebumps
This song hits like a 30 lbs iron sledgehammer. I can't take my eye's away from the video or miss anything and the power of his voice is tremendous.
Stunning lady giving a stunning reaction to a stunning cover of a stunning song.
Drop dead gorgeous.
This version always brings me to tears. Such a well done version. The lead singer Dave Draiman was actually given classical voice lessons.
When I was growing up I didn’t realize how many songs disturbed actually covers..
Such as 10,000 fist in the air and land of confusion. Which were both originally Phil Collins songs..
No matter how often you listen to the song AFTER knowing the story behind it ... it just amazes u more!!! Written pre cellphones... computers and tv as a common things in life it's a warning already in the 60's where we were heading with our noses locked on screens with texting and crap without any sounds or real emotions (connections) .... warned us about the distance technology keeps us in .... smart guys .... today THIS (writing here ... and there) seems to be all we do locked on to those NEON God's !!!! What a song....
Amazing performance and beautiful
Prophetic song!!!!!
best part is watching people who don't know the band as the tension builds..as they're reacting I'm thinking "just hold on, uve got no idea what's coming!!"🤣
Now u should listen to their original style: Disturbed - Down with the sickness.
She's not ready.
Just another David yes!! Awesome song!!
i have watched people react to this so many times and every time the first word out of their mouths is always 'wow'....reverently. thank you.
Love her honesty and emotions. Adorable
She is so beautiful!! Lovely smile❤❤
I loved how much your face portrayed the emotion of hearing the song for the first time, plus you didn't stop it every 2 seconds
Finally a reaction song video that doesn't pause it every 15 damn seconds.
I agree, these so-called vocal coaches are the worst!!
Art Garfunkel, the writer of the song, said this. "This song is about the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly intentionally, but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other".
His band Disturbed also did a great cover of "Land of confusion"
written by very good performer, song-writing genius Paul Simon, originally performed by Art Garfunkel and himself as huge ^0's-70's duo Simon and Garfunkel, as much folk, pop, and little rock. To me, the lyrics are about silence about injustice, and opposing war in the 1960s, but David Draiman of the metal group Disturbed[who has opera training] thought it could be a current anthem for today. Simon's lyrics can just about stand alone as poetry, so I call this the wordsmith here to be lyrical poetry. Simon admitted, at like age 75, this version takes this song to a whole new level. Simon recently retired from live performing is excellent acoustic guitarist, and his former partner Art Garfunkel had one of the most beautiful male singing voice of that era. Simon and Garfunkel did one of greatest pop rock ballads ever, with Bridge over troubled waters.
Your shifting expression as these songs unfold are gold... you say so much with no words👌🏼
A 1965 song written by Paul Simon and re-done by Disturbed 2015 (50 years later) ...both are awe inspiring this version here is Phenomenal!! ~ easily the best song for me in the past 5 years
Listening to the song. Looking at Empress Joy Jean. Damn is she gorgeous.
This song is about a person who feels alone and disconnected from the world. The vocalist for Disturbed is an advocate for people who suffer from mental illness. Please do a reaction for "Down With The Sickness" from Disturbed. They have a lot of great songs.
I will never get tired of people experiencing this for the first time.
This is most beautiful song. And i love your face!!and catching your breath!!
Jesus, it's all in the eyebrows, and the emotions on this one. What a great reaction to watch,
He is a very powerful Opera trained singer who loves to sing Heavy metal. They say when he was born God asked him as an adult did he want the voice of a devil or an angel ... He said yes.
Your facial expressions are so genuine. Beautiful lady
I have watched many reaction videos to this song. The first word is always WOW!
That woman is absolutely beautiful...oh yea, the song is pretty good as well..Ha
I LOVE HIS VOICE!! He takes it to a whole new level!!
Amazing this song was written in the 1960’s. So relevant today.
This isn’t Disturbed’s normal sound. Down with the Sickness is one of their early iconic songs. David was training to be a cantor in a Jewish synagogue. He has since also done some other training.
Listened to this song many times but this is the first time seeing the official video. WOW. Amazing video production.
I am addicted to his voice and interpretation of The Sound of Silence.
React to Simon and Garfunkel - Sound Of silence ( from the concert in Central Park )
YESSS!! PLEASE!!!! One of my favorites since I could understand what music really means to people....in 1988 LMFAO
The darkness and silence part of the song refers to the absence of meaningful communication. Talking but not saying anything really but empty platitudes, even in other music. How we talk about nothing that challenges thoughts or evokes complex emotions the vast majority of the time. How we can worship materialistic, vapid, and superficial things. How we are too afraid to put ourselves out there and break that silence of meaning. Because we don't want to seem sappy or cringe. This song was Simon and Garfunkel (This is a Disturbed cover) trying to reach out and break the radio silence of us not meaningfully connecting with each other anymore. It is a message pleading for personal authenticity again.
Metal ballads are some of the best ever proven with disturbed absolutely unbelievable ✌🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Pentatonix has an amazing version of this as well that you should watch. They're an incredible acapella group that is redefining what can be done without instruments.
i love the look on peoples faces at the start. Its silent, its dramatic, and emphasizes the songs meaning.
This song is about the silence of depression
he is mezmerizing................................the bass drum pounding 2 times is powerful.............and the orchestra music is perfect for the background.
Simon and Garfunkel love.... Perth Australia
👍
Powerful song...enjoyed watching your facial expressions.
Impressive, a real Empress. By your leave your excellency.
Amazing Paul.Simon.Wrote The Song at 21Yr old
Great song , great cover, great REACTION. U r one beautiful lady. Jim s
I've been hearing this song by Simon and Garfunkel for many years but this is the first time hearing this cover. Amazing rendition both musically and visually. Few songs can dig this deep into your soul. Left me feeling like I just experienced something really special and unique. Love watching your reactions to many of my all-time favorites and now introducing me to something new. Thanks, pretty lady!
Every person who hears this for the first time is taken on a voyage of discovery...!
so, this song was originally written by paul simon and performed by simon and garfunkel. this song is about communication, and the lack there of. Simon and garfunkel sang the song at a slightly faster pace, in a higher tempo. Unfortunately this didnt portray the songs meaning as powerfully as david draimans version from the band disturbed. Very powerful lyrics
Best cover of an already classic song I've ever heard. It's a protest song from the sixties...just as valid now with David Draiman howling it as it was when Simon and Garfunkel gently sang it...
Voice to powerful for one person..great analogy.
That was exactly my reaction watching your reaction, brilliant!
Beautiful reaction by a beautiful lady.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 love this song! Great job
This is a great version of this song. Another great version, was done by the group Pentatonix
Can’t believe I missed this reaction. Never heard of this guy or group til now. Look beautiful as always , love your reaction! His voice is amazing didn’t know what to expect.
Love ya!
Thank dear @Allen Goffinet. I hope you're well and staying safe...
Thank dear @Allen Goffinet. I hope you're well and staying safe...
Notice the boat of musicians at the end of the video crossing the river to the people on shore with sheet music in hand. They need each other to end the silence with music. Music is the universal language as BTS is proving at the moment while singing/writing lyrics in Korean with a world wide audience listening. Good Music crosses the language barrier. Opera goers have known this for decades. LOL
Fantastic reaction! Your eyes said everything! :). The power, the emotion, intensity and the vocal talent... there’s truly no words! 😇
Love the videos. You do an awesome job.
Joy, I enjoy watching you go through the same emotions that I am feeling., a gift from God
I really enjoyed your reaction. Watching people listen to this song wash over them is a great pleasure of mine. Thank you for allowing yourself to feel the full impact of it and sharing that with us.
Have you seen this live? Absolutely AMAZING!
Your emotions showed your eyes you felt the music 🎼 beautiful
I love your reaction. Fantastic song. Gets me by through the rough times.
You are great Empress Joy-Jean
The song was written around the time President Kennedy was assassinated and the time of the Vietnam war. It could have been written now. A very powerful song. I was 4 yrs when it was written. I've never felt like I did when I heard this.
Very different very good cover.
Disturbed's version of this song moves me everytime I hear it.... It is very deep and filled with so much of what was going on in the time that Simon & Garfunkel wrote it. I am glad you enjoyed it.
I’m living this and love you’re reaction sweetheart ❤
The song is about technology alienating us from what makes us human. People getting too caught up in modern life to connect and resonate with each other on a human level. Check out the original by Simon and Garfunkel.
Technology wasn’t nearly as controlling then as it is today. It wasn’t a strong presence in our lives. Garfunkel is quoted as saying it’s about "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly internationally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other."
Though I do think the lyrics have become almost an anthem in how we live our lives now, and seems much more poignant in current society than it was then. A song powerful when it was written, yet ahead of its time.
It could work that way these days, but that definitely wasn't the songs original intent.
Paul also had the intention of highlighting the fact that people were getting caught up in the music of the British invasion of the 60's. They stopped listening to music of the storytellers and didn't listen for the meaning, just the music.
The song was about an acid trip from 60 years ago, nothing at all to do with modern day social media
This was a great reaction as usual and you look so beautiful.
Your facial expressions say it all!
Wonderful reaction!
Ty for doing this video his voice is awesome goes to ur soul one of my fav songs
Loved watching the expression of your face as the song progressed. You went from confusion, to concern, and relief and relaxation. Beautiful and attractive.
Empress, we used to sing this in high school choir. didn't care then yet; now it's a great song. Thanks for reacting!
realdeal
Watching her get the feels as this goes along, gets me back to my first time hearing this cover....the power of a great song!
This woman is so beautiful, but that man's voice is out of this world
You are a very polite and professional person . GOD bless you and keep up the good work 🙏
It'd be fascinating to see your reaction to him on down with the sickness. The range this band has is incredible. Your facial reactions are powerful. Well done, Empress!
