Many have been gifts for friends or just pieces of art I was inspired to create. They're definitely a labour of love to make but it really pays off because you get to wear and show off your work after you're done! Omg yours looks so good it's so good to see other people doing this kind of stuff. I've been bleaching, dying and sewing patches onto things since my early teens and I've had my denim vest for about 5 years now. The older and more tattered it gets the more character it gives the vest.
I'm going to make one now.

Might be useful to add that you wanna do the bleaching and dying process either in the back yard or at the very least in a well ventilated room, because A. it smells really bad and B. the fumes can be harmful depending on what chemicals you use.

Try to find denim that's already undyed. Dying denim with indigo is incredibly water intensive and if it's just going to be bleached out that's a whole lotta waste...This was certainly beautiful best!

I wanted to get my daughter a pink denim vest but couldn't find one, I never considered dyeing it myself!
Honestly once you start dying clothes you realize how easy and inexpensive it is. The bleach and dye together cost under $10!

Yesss i needed some ideas to spice up my old denim jacket, love it. Do you have any DIY suggestions for what to do with the waste material from the sleeves?? I hate throwing stuff away haha
I'm the same way! To tell you the truth in the past I've held on to the sleeves and then cut out pieces from them to do back patches on OTHER vests (like how I did the lettering on this one with cut out fabric!) because if it's dark enough denim it can look black!
Keep them to use as patches when your jeans start to fray in the thigh area?
Holly Winn yesss arms are perfect for making patches - paint cool things on them with fabric paint and zigzag stitch (or hand stitch) the edges to stop them fraying, then sew or safety pin onto your other vests or backpacks etc.
I actually did this but instead I would recommend just getting a white denim jacket
