Idk I love it when songs do something tricky related to their title, like the intro here sounds like it's leading to Spanish Translation, but that turns out to be lies RIP Mimi, may your voice remain an internal compass for those you leave behind
_LOW - LIES_ [Verse 1] When they found you on the edge of the road You had a pistol underneath your coat But it all started back in '79 Your mother used to work from sunset to 5 And when you knew enough to know where to go You said you wanted to be out on your own Why don't you tell me what you really want Instead of making up the same old lies, lies, lies [Verse 2] You say you must be going out of your mind And I can see you when I look in your eyes You're always talking on the end of your tongue And sweep the ashes underneath the rug You swear you're having just the time of your life You've got it wrapped in pretty papers and white Why don't you tell me what you really want Instead of making up the same old lies, lies, lies Lies, lies, lies Lies, lies, lies [Bridge] Oh, baby, we gotta go The shadow's taking its toll We're not winning anymore Time is keeping score It's the blind leading the blind One can handle the night Oh, it's not what I wanna say But I'll say it anyway [Outro] When I saw you on the edge of the road You had a pistol underneath your coat I should be sleeping by your lonely side Instead of working on this song all night
i second that too, joseph. my personal hang-up lies more in how it technically looks and syncs up with the song. i don't understand the motivation behind selecting whoever conceptualized and delivered the visuals. i expect more from something tied to this wonderful band.
I like the low production value approach on this, because it makes it feel very immediate and gritty, almost a newsreel feel that fits the cultural isolation depicted. I thought it was engaging, and I recognize a lot of those Denver locations. And the song is achingly gorgeous...:)
me gusto mucho las cancans de Low. Alan Sparhawk y Mimi Parker merecen una adudencia mucho grande. I just heard this song live on March 8, 2016 in Duluth. I presume this is Lows response to kooks trying to stop buses of little kids trying to get in the US from Central America, but so apropos for Trump and after HRC's 47%moment criticizing Move On for getting peeps out to vote. UFF DA! For a previous MN song about Lies, check out The Castaways Liar Liar (esp the one from movie "It's a Bikini World" then check out Lies by the Knickerbockers
It is not the best video I have seen, but the song is good. What I want to know is if that is Houston, TX where the video was shot? Some of the backgrounds look like it is there. Hard to say when the background goes by so quickly.
+ivan geld Verified by looking at the light rail car. It was in the Denver light rail colors and had three letters that may have been "RTD" on the nose where Denver puts them. The other major city that uses those colors and has a three-letter name is San Jose's VTA, but the greenery was too lush to be San Jose, and the buildings in the downtown were all wrong to be San Jose. Houston's light rail cars are silver, while the Minnesota cars (Duluth and MInneapolis both have light rail) have major sections of the car painted blue or teal.
Damn wright. I’m now believing the whole sinister , behind the scenes decisions made by daytime radio presenters and producers conspiracy whom allow the never ending plays of the same old tunes by the same old acts. If we have to endure these big sellers, at least album tracks would make a change but no- last week at work I heard a radio show ( not claiming to be ‘oldies ‘ ) which apart from the news, could have been transmitted in 2009 , 1999 ( minus the one by coldplay) or 1989. Low could wipe the floor with Coldplay ( & I loved ‘ yellow ‘ ). Love from the new forest
Ones and Sixes is such a good album...
Mimi's solo vocal bit in this song in particular. Stunning.
Really like this song, seems underrated

tu voz mimi, gracias por siempre
Memories come rushing back.
Think this is my favourite Mimi Parker vocal, the amazingly gifted talent she is. Alan Sparhawk is phenomenal too though.
No Word. Just Good.
_LOW - LIES_
[Verse 1]
When they found you on the edge of the road
You had a pistol underneath your coat
But it all started back in '79
Your mother used to work from sunset to 5
And when you knew enough to know where to go
You said you wanted to be out on your own
Why don't you tell me what you really want
Instead of making up the same old lies, lies, lies
[Verse 2]
You say you must be going out of your mind
And I can see you when I look in your eyes
You're always talking on the end of your tongue
And sweep the ashes underneath the rug
You swear you're having just the time of your life
You've got it wrapped in pretty papers and white
Why don't you tell me what you really want
Instead of making up the same old lies, lies, lies
Lies, lies, lies
Lies, lies, lies
[Bridge]
Oh, baby, we gotta go
The shadow's taking its toll
We're not winning anymore
Time is keeping score
It's the blind leading the blind
One can handle the night
Oh, it's not what I wanna say
But I'll say it anyway
[Outro]
When I saw you on the edge of the road
You had a pistol underneath your coat
I should be sleeping by your lonely side
Instead of working on this song all night
beautifull beautifull song

hmmm this song is the one that grabbed me off of the album. a deserving single, an underachieving video.
Also the song that had me attached to the album. For me, I think the video is a bit on the sunny side - I had, in my mind, a breezy winter night.

I really love it... song is great, video is awesome. Low
Love this song from 🇰🇷
Hermosa
Loved it
Footage of Lakeside Amusement park and the metro area of Denver, Colorado!

ty Low for this choice of video to accompany the song. a glimpse into the life of a mexican immigrant trying to get by. Didnt rape or act like a thug.
Rest in Peace, Mimi Parker
There are some subtleties that remind me of The Antlers in this track.
This amazing song deserves a better video.
+poper Agreed!

Can someone tell the chords to this?

It says: Location (optional): Denver, CO
(song is super cool)
