WHEN SHOULD YOU APPLY GEL IN YOUR CURLY HAIR ROUTINE?

  • When should you be applying gel in your curly hair routine? Depending on how much hold you prefer, you can apply your gel before you Ribbon Curl, or after. (or both!)
    Curl Foaming Gel www.amazon.com/VERB-Curl-Foam...
💜Benefit of adding gel BEFORE: The stronger hold you like, and the more frizz and flyaways you have, I recommend adding gel before brush styling. The curl results are high definition, more separation.
💅🏻Apply it to your hair and style with the Ribbon Curls Technique for extra curl definition and hold.
💜Benefit of adding gel AFTER: The gel creates a shell around the curl that protects without creating too much crunch. The curl results are chunky, soft and fluffy.
💅🏻Apply it by gently glazing it over your wet, defined curls to give hold and scrunch to finish.
*Results WILL vary from product to product. This is the @verbproducts x @manesbymell Curl Foaming Gel which is easily able to brush through the hair, and does not make the hair crunchy. #VerbProducts discount code: MANESBYMELL
**For stronger hold, use less cream/leave-in conditioner. A detangling spray/hair primer works as well to Prep before brush styling.
***If using a mousse, I recommend scrunching it in after you Ribbon Curl Style.
****You can also layer gel before AND after. There is no right or wrong answer, just preference!

I apply gel after my cream product and after it’s had about 10 minutes to wet plop. I find this gives my hair some time to absorb the moisturizing properties of the cream and begin to dry so it’s not soaking wet when I go to apply my gel. This helps my finer hair and soft curls not get weighed down while still getting a decent hold.

I know that your hair is super duper curly, but could you please please please please please please please do a video on a routine for a beginner with fine 2a/2b wavy hair? Bonus points if it's short wavy hair, and if the products are cheap. I'm broke, and my hair is cut like carey mulligans long pixie. It's a struggle. Haha

I’ve actually started using both gel and mouse on my wash days, mix the gel with my curl cream and put both in before I plop (so when my hair is sopping wet, fresh out the shower) then I’ll put in mouse and brush-style before diffusing. Gives a pretty good finish. But my hair is pretty fine with low porosity, so a little product goes a long way for me

She sprayed water on her hair

    Then the gentle scrunch

@@ManesByMell Sure! I usually do the glazing and that works well. My curls then look tidy and well groomed. But the brushing through hold up for 4 solid days as well and it saved some time in styling. I need to try it a few more times I think, but so far I like both.

Mel, I have a mixture of 2a/2b/2c fine hair. It is just below shoulder length and is my natural colour which is a very pale silver and it is so pale in places it is white. It is also very greasy and I need to wash it every day. If I put a curl cream under a gel, would the curl cream make my hair more greasy? Thanks. Love you and your channel. You’re fab.
