  • Episode #137
In this episode Nadia and Terri dive deep into why so many of us struggle to make progress and therefore stay stuck in the uncomfortable space of starting/stopping, or how many of us push ourselves so hard that we can't sustain consistently to see the lasting results.
Tune in to find out how our brain can sometimes trip us up when it comes to motivation because of its love for novelty, and why so many people start the New Year with good intentions but struggle to maintain that momentum for long enough to see lasting results.
How do we change our mindset to overcome these issues? Terri shares some great analogies to help adjust our mindset and behaviour and take confident steps towards the success we have been looking for, and Nadia reinforces the importance of taking a step-by-step approach towards therapeutic fasting that starts with, of course, TRE (time-restricted eating).

This is exactly how I quit smoking for over 6 months now after being an addict for over 40 years. I kept telling myself every single day that "just for today I am a nonsmoker." I didn't think about months or years, just for the day. And now I am exactly 204 days not smoking! I apply this to fasting as well. Just for today I won't eat. 😃

Wow. The truth hurts. Started fasting in 2018. Then struggled as I gained half the weight back and started a yo yo fasting habit. Lose, gain.
Last year I lost 10kg. With on and off fasting. But kept in drinking wine, which is very socially accepted in our country. But it was my 'sugar or carb' addiction. So I needed to address that.
The next 6 months are therapeutic.
Then a normal life eating with my hubby and kids again.
In January we had a month holiday with family from Germany. A lot of restaurant food, wine, beer and gin tasting.
But I chose not to go off my path. I couldn't fast, but I could eat Lo carb and avoid daily alcohol.
But I had one meal and 1 meat snack a day. I ended up losing 1.5 kg this month.
Listening to this podcast strengthens my resolve.
I'm not sick, I need some metabolic healing. But if I don't live a keto lifestyle forever, my addiction will take over again.
I said to my sister, who I have introduced to fasting: choose your disease today. Be it cancer, diabetes, heart Attack or stroke. Choose. Because it will happen to both of us if we do not reform 50 odd years of food addiction.
Thank you for these podcasts. It's changing my life.❤
Wish I'd known this in 2018

Nadia and Terri, thank you so much for this episode, it really spoke to me to get back on track after the new year. Nadia, love your straight to the point, blunt helpful tips, not at all offensive.

I love this!!! I have rearranged my schedule so many times in this year and 1/2 finding you guys. Also building my fasting muscle, so important!!! And my current schedule is 2 24's and 1 36 to 48 depending on what is going on, but when that schedule gets interrupted, then time restricted eating at that point. But learning to be flexible like a willow tree is what works for me. This schedule also works because then I eat with my hubby except on Thursdays which is leftover day anyway and other life stuff. But it allows for me to work on me and enjoy life and family.

I SO needed this podcast today. I've had marvelous success using TRE. I've lost 150# and have 50 more to go. I purposely slowed by progress for a couple of months in the fall to give my skin a chance to catch up to my body. Now, I'm ready to get rid of this last 50 pounds, but I have found myself quite resistant to the hardcore realities of therapeutic fasting. Your conversation nailed many of my struggles. I've got a fresh perspective and am ready to roll with some 42's for February. Thank you both SO MUCH!

Maybe this isn’t the place to ask this question? You speak of rolling 48’s & like that… a definition of these terms for the newbies please? Thank you❤️❤️
Boy I love the debt analogy!!

Great program. I'm off track and need to get back to TRE and low carb again to regain control over my eating. I've been thinking wrong about fasting , as punishment for overeating. Doesn't work😮

Fantastic podcast! I think part of the problem may be in terminology. TFM calls a fat fast a "fast" when its not truly a fast. Its possible that TFM folks are stuck because we've been taught to believe eating fatty foods all day is "fasting." Then we don't seem to ever get to truly fasting on a regular basis. This is something I have realized and have stopped fat fasting all together. I will now do a 24 or 36 hour fast even if its hard. I accept that im hungry and push forward.. I know from experience that it will be much easier by the end of the week.

a fat fast is a very specific ,time-limited strategy to get over an eating hump. No, it's not truly a "fast" per se, but that is the common terminology that it's called.

Yes, that's my understanding as well and I think calling it a fat fast has probably not served us well.

Nadia's narrow world view and perceptions of resentment of the wonderful strategy of fasting are just SO WRONG. I listened through more than I would usually bear of Nadia's narrow-mindedness because I wanted to hear Terri... but I just think this episode is too full of Nadia's negativity. She always seems to think we ARE our emotions, but we aren't. I feel like Nadia is a non-fasting person spreading her judgment around but she's more damaging than helpful. Terri, Lisa, Dr. Fung, etc., are interested in individual differences and are curious about how people are. For me, that's way smarter and more interesting. This podcast would be way better if they cut Nadia's contribution down to 10% of what it is and we could just hear Terri.

I totally disagree. Nadia gives it to us straight which balances out the soft spoken calming voice of Terri.❤
