In this Fasting Q&A episode, Nadia answers some of your fasting questions:
    1. Which fasting protocol is best for getting rid of excess skin while you also get rid of excess weight? [01:58]
    2. My GP has told me to take medication three times a day. How do I incorporate intermittent fasting into my lifestyle when I have to take meds three times a day? [09:26]
    3. I’ve been fasting for two years. I lost 20 pounds the first year but gained 10 back in the second. I try to do 42-hour fasts but end up breaking it around the 20-hour mark. My blood glucose numbers are up and my weight isn’t coming down. I am a 45-year-old female. I am ready to give up. Please help. [13:50]
    4. I was recently diagnosed with vulvar lichen sclerosus (LS). My gynaecologist says that it is believed to be an autoimmune disorder affecting the skin of the vulva. It is a horrifying condition that can cause changes to the architecture of the vulva, intense itching, tearing of the skin, etc. I’ve never known anyone to have this condition, but my gynaecologist says that she has a lot of patients with LS. Have any of your clients seen improvement in their LS? Is there a particular fasting protocol that you would recommend. I’m just devastated by this diagnosis. [21:43]
    5. I understand that snacking (even with healthy foods) is a bad idea because it keeps your insulin levels up so how many meals would you suggest is the most effective during a typical 8-hour window in a 16/8 IF regime? Or maybe a better way to look at it is how many hours should I leave between meals to allow insulin to go back down? [26:55]

Thank you for addressing Excess Skin. I have been therapeutic fasting for 18 months now and have lost 130 pounds. My whole world has changed for the better and feel great. Thank you to all!!! I am lucky that my Primary Care Doctor (U.S.) has been very supportive. Numbers are good and my last hurdle is the excess skin. Overall the skin is not impeding any mobility and is not terrible. But I have been wondering whether Excess Skin will slowly improve with 36, 42-hour fasting. I will continue but I think being reasonable with results is something Coach Terri could address in the future with mindset. Dealing with changes in the body and when you are obese like myself for my adult life (age 59) knowing when to accept and take time to appreciate the accomplishment instead of focusing on trying to turn back the clock in youth. When to view natural aging skin vs weight loss skin. Trying to figure out when to start more TRE and fewer longer fasts instead of weekly 42/48 etc.. Again Thank you for giving me the tools to take control of my life. Truly grateful

About 2 years ago I finally went to the gynecologist and was told I probably had ls . I was very heavy at the time. Still am , but lost about 40 pounds through tre and some longer fasts. I stick with a much lower carb intake now and have noticed that I rarely have the itching now, and also much less itching on my lower back as well. This has just been my experience, but try the lower carb eating. Doesn't have to be as low as Keto, I often ate 60-70 high fiber carbs. It can't hurt to try it for several months and see if it helps.
You have my heartfelt sympathy. It's a miserable condition!

I just found this guy at Physionic who is a scientist and actually studies autophagy. He said the evidence is only in mice 😕 🐁 🐭 and that we cannot know what actually happens in humans.
Won’t stop me from fasting though, if anything, it helps tremendously with self control around food. Please let us know what you think of what he’s saying.

How do I get the 100 grams of protein I am supposed to have in a day while fasting on alternate days?

I do not want to be low-carb again. Can I do ADF on a higher whole carb, lower fat diet? I find that eating more whole food carbs is much more filling because it is more voluminous in the stomach (activates the stomach stretch receptors).
Example: legumes, oats, little bit of rice or potatoes, plus lots of vegetables and moderate protein.

I tried this with adf and it was tough to do. Cravings and hunger were awful. Low carb was better for adf. If you can swing it, i don't see why it wouldn't work. But what i found was that since i have insulin resistance, teying to swing from glucose burning to fat burning every other day was difficult, my body couldn't do it. Now i am finding it easier but this is after 2 years of on and off adf and losing weight. I am pretty much in ketosis most of the time. Some carbs, still less than 100g on eating days, won't mess me up on fasting days. Longer fasts work better for IR busting. I did rolling 48 hour fasts for 2 weeks, then back to 36 or 24 hr fasts, then 36 and 42 hour fasts weekly. So i mixed it up. This is the first time I am doing adf that the carbs are not delaying fat burning. In the past, my blood glucose stayed above 100 until i was at least 24 hours fasted, and never got into a good 80s range until i was at least 30 hours fasted. Now i can get the glucose to 80 in less than 12 hours fasted. There has been a real metabolic change for me.

@@iss8504 Great job. I’ve been doing omad, moderate carb (some days 50g carbs, some days 150g), and one day of the week of not eating at all. Been very successful, lost over 24 lb since November (I was only a little overweight btw, but there’s a bit more to go). I recently watched some say that the studies that really deserve our attention (randomized control trials) show that fat loss is the same with or without intermittent fasting, doesn’t matter the amount of carbs, AS LONG AS the calorie deficit and protein were equated - they compared both and fat loss was the same. But I still do OMAD because my calories are very low (short and sedentary) and I like to eat one big meal instead of three snack sized meals, so OMAD is perfect for me.

@@iss8504 I discovered that I really like being free to decide how many carbs I want to eat on a specific day (as long as it’s unprocessed foods). Some days I want more meat so I eat keto, some days I want my oatmeal and my beans. So I eat my favorite healthy whole unprocessed foods and I don’t feel tied to one specific diet. Dr. Fung said as long as it’s Whole Foods it’s OK. I wrote a long response here that was deleted, so I’m not gonna rewrite it anymore. Basically, all it matters is: create a calorie deficit, doesn’t matter how you do it, easier on unprocessed foods, hundreds of times proven in human studies. Look up Lay ne Nor ton and Physio nic.
