The 2014 ghost was such a classic, and the new 2023 ghost is truly a worthy successor. Perhaps in the next few years we'll receive a UCS version of the ghost!
I mean we kinda already do have a UCS/minifig scale set well instructions on how to build it and what parts you will need and it’s probably better than what Lego will put out now granted it dosnt have the fancy box or certificate but everything else is just as good and it supports the community (and it’s cheaper to by the bits and build it yourself) ied say that’s worth not having a fancy box and a fancy price to go with it.

Most of the 2014 sets hold up fairly well. The Star destroyer from that year is one of my favorite sets and it looks very good, not to mention it comes with a handle. I think 2014 was a point in lego star wars where the designers moved to a more modern design philosophy for the sets. Idk maybe im looking to deep into it lol
Hi MANDR! I see a huge upgrade from 2014-2023! I say it’s absolutely worth to buy the new Ghost. The build is just a ball out of the park, while the minifigure selection of the 2014 takes the cake for me.
I like how the new Ghost has a Phantom that looks good next to the Ghost, the old Phantom 2 set was way to big when put next to the Ghost, and when connected to the back it looked very awkward.
If they had made the Ghost a bit bigger it would've corrected most of that issue. It's definitely done in a bit smaller scale than the Phantom from back then is. There was a Clone Wars era set from *way* back that was the AT-OT dropship, and because the scale was correct, you could also use it with the AT-TE set if you also had that.
I bought the Ghost in 2014 (black hair Kanan version) and looking at the 2023 version, Wow! What an improvement, especially the interior space. Has me really considering selling off the old one
Ryan, I just got the 2020 Droid Tank for my Birthday today, and I personally love it, I don’t think the barrel is to bad looking I’m o.k. With it! And it’s just a sweet build in my perspective point of view!😁😁
Just got my Ghost set and today, and after finishing the build, it is one of my favorite Star Wars playscale sets as far as exterior design goes. It just looks absolutely gorgeous, and I think the designers really knocked it out of the park here. My only major gripe about the set is that I really think the cockpit piece should've been printed (I'm not a fan of how many stickers are here, but I can deal with all of them except for the cockpit sticker). Basically every other issue I have is purely due to the small scale of the set and therefore can't be helped, such as the inaccurate boarding ramps being a compromise for the one that should be in the front of the ship, or the fact that the Phantom II is laughably tiny (although I still think it looks superb for the scale). Additionally, the docking bay for the Phantom II looks pretty bad when the shuttle is removed, but being as that I wouldn't display the Ghost without the Phantom attached, I'm more-or-less okay with it (plus, in the 2014 version, even though you had a nice looking docking bay, it looked weird to NOT have the Phantom attached... but it perhaps looked even worse WITH it attached due to how disproportionately scaled both Phantoms are compared to the rest of the set). At the end of the day, despite how much I love the new Ghost, I still think its slightly overpriced. Having just a couple printed pieces (*especially* the Ghost cockpit) as well as maybe another figure or two could have gone a long way towards making it really feel like a $160 set. Still, I definitely don't regret picking it up!
I think it's difficult to do, when in reality the ghost is a pretty huge ship. There's no perfect way to make a play scale version, because if you want all the functionality, either everything is going to be out of proportion or it's not going to be minifig compatible. Like, you could say that in an ideal world we'd have a truly gigantic minifig scale UCS version of it, but the price would be ludicrous and you would never be able to play with it. I would still like that (I think it'd be really fun to have the accurate interior with all 4 of their rooms, plus the 2 rooms in the back), but it's just not the type of set they are going for here.

Seeing them side-by-side, you can see the yellowing of the old Ghost - the new one is so gleaming white. Really is starting to put me off buying white-coloured LEGO sets, as they have such a short shelf life before they begin to yellow. My Saturn V rocket is borderline unrecognisable, and other models like an old A-Wing are really suffering. Hate to think what things like the gazebo on Rivendell will end up looking like.
I feel like the minifigure difference is a bit of a nitpick, if we are going by what figures make sense in the set, and whether we are getting more or less than the "common sense" selection of characters. In rebels, an obvious selection of characters would be the ghost crew; spectres 1 through 6. However, 6 characters may be unrealistic (although I don't think it's too unrealistic), and the bigger reason that this only has 3 of the 6 is that the other characters come in other sets released at the same time, notably the phantom. But anyway, let's say it comes with 3 figures that should definitely be in the set. In Ahsoka (and in the rebels epilogue) there are exactly 3 characters living on the ghost: Hera, Chopper, and Jacen. So the obvious selection of characters for the set would be these 3 characters, and that is exactly what we get. On top of that we get a couple of new republic officers; not totally relevant to the ghost, but in my opinion this is a better choice than the single stormtrooper in the rebels set. A mon cala figure especially is at least interesting regardless of whether you care about the character itself. So personally, I'd say that either there's almost nothing in it (they both come with 3 of the relevant figures), OR you give the edge to the new set, because it has the complete collection of relevant figures for the time period, plus it has more additional figures, plus those figures are more interesting.
So I would love to know the real numbers on just how meny kids play with Lego in comparison to how meny big kids do as I suspect that the number of big “”kids”” playing/building Lego is going to dwarf the number of children that are bothered by Lego. So I was looking that Asoka’s shuttle and I played the video to show my mum (who is in her 80s) how the wings moved around the ships body (I a ship guy I always have been, be it Lego, toys or models I’ve always loved my spaceships with the starfruy from B5 been one of my faves so now I’m older that hasn’t changed and Lego dose some of the best ships around) she has no idea about sci-fi so it is easier to show her than try to describe it, well I had to describe it in the end anyway as the kid they had “”playing”” with the ship had no idea, I know he’s just an actor but there was no life or joy in him and he didn’t know how any of it worked, when the wings rotated he looked like he pooped himself as I think he thought he’d broken it but as nothing was said he just carried on holding it stiffly making sure the wings didn’t move again (you could also tell he was told to make sure the Unpatterned underside wasn’t shown to the camera) but this kid had no idea how to play with a toy which surprised me more than I would have suspected.
The new Ghost is a very good improvement. The only thing I will modify however is to have a 360 degree turret other then that it’s rly good out of box.
4:14 There is even worst : remember that dumb interior space in the Sequel Knights of Ren Transport ship set, which doesn't even features weaponry racks as the Ghost from 2014 does.
Trust me as someone who owns the original ghost and has the nostalgia factor for it, the new one looks by far a lot better. Just not enough for me personally to buy it unless its super discounted :)

Surprised you didn't point out that the new one has the wrong colour for the engines. Also I prefer the older one's "Phantom attachment point" since it doesn't have gaps like the new one does.
I only watched the show last year and really enjoyed it. I love the Ghost as a ship, and after 4 seasons it felt like home. I looked up the old set out of curiosity and felt a little disappointed. It didnt look quite right somehow (reasons you explain in the video). That and reviews were kinda meh and it was retired so...figured I'd never have one. I've got such a mighty need not to miss the new one. It looks so much better. Just wish the minifigs were better
Like so many other Star Wars misses, the OG Ghost came out around the time Rebels premiered so a few things were wrong about it because Lego was working from concept art rather than seeing it in action.
I think we'll know the characters better once the show has fully released. We don't even know two of them yet, after all. Jacen... could... at some point in the show, have brown hair. While I doubt it, it is still possible. Also, Chopper DOES have the mismatched legs and torso in both Rebels and Ahsoka, the problem is that, in the LEGO version, it is just a bit more noticeable.
@@justinbombach9873 we actually got to meet all the characters in the Ghost set in Ep 3 of Ahsoka last week. Beyta and Hawkins were with Hera during the meeting on Home One, and Jacen was with Chopper directly after the meeting. Jacen basically has black hair with a slight green tint to it, and Lego doesn't have any dark green hair pieces to match the character, so unless they recolored a part the black is best they could do. I even thought it was black in the episode until I saw a character poster afterwards I could look closer at him.
I have just picked up a second-hand 2014 Ghost for €160 (pretty good deal for my country)! No figures included but I already own most of the Rebels figures. And I am currently building the 2023 Ghost, so I'll have both to display together
love 2014's selection of mini-figs and dont really mind the fact that the phantom was sold seprate..... UN-FORTUNETLY it gave lego more movivation to put more effort into it unlike the 2023 version where you do get both BUT the P2 is worse bec of it.....

I think the reason the new Hera minifig looks a little strange to me is the lack of the printed hips. I'm honestly glad to see them not there, they usually bothered me
I went to a LEGO convention last year about 2 months before LEGO announced the 2023 Ghost and the vendors at the convention were asking $999.99 for the 2014 Ghost. 😮💨
These are really good sets, better than most sets we get today. Shame to see Lego going downhill with most of these builds (The Ghost and Phantom II being a exception, a really good set!)
I significantly disagree that the set designs are worsening. The biggest issue is the inflating price. This wave by itself is going to be looked back on as incredible.
The characters from the first ghost set are not iconic. Not even remotely. The Ahsoka show's mediocre ratings support this. But we don't need to point to the Ahsoka show to know Zeb, Kanan, and Hera are not iconic.
If they would have just included the of characters it would have been one of the best sets of all time, Hera, Ezra, chopper, kanan, zeb, Sabine, what a step up that would be from these figs

Looks like you actually need two of them. Still, when are they going to bring out the UCP version? Hopefully with both shuttle versions. As for minifig line-up, purple guy, jedi, captain, droid, kid and the two guys at the end. As for that stormtrooper, are we looking at a clone trooper? As in one of those rebelling clone troopers? If so, add him as well. Because then you have eight minifigs, for the crew.
Great vid I really enjoyed it! But just a heads up with some of your accuracy comments, the two models are lego adaptations of different versions of the ghost. This means the 2014 model IS accurate in some of its details (such as the cockpit dome and top down colors) , it was just referencing the old ghost from the rebels show.

+ of the Play space: you can open air roleplay while you are building a model, i always do this, so i have more time to experience some features.

I went to a LEGO convention last year about 2 months before LEGO announced the 2023 Ghost and the vendors at the convention were asking $999.99 for the 2014 Ghost. 😮💨
These are really good sets, better than most sets we get today. Shame to see Lego going downhill with most of these builds (The Ghost and Phantom II being a exception, a really good set!)
I significantly disagree that the set designs are worsening. The biggest issue is the inflating price. This wave by itself is going to be looked back on as incredible.

the price of the 2014 is purely ridiculous, I'm big fan of rebels, but never would I put 800$ to buy those, even to get Zeb as minifigure :)
The characters from the first ghost set are not iconic. Not even remotely. The Ahsoka show's mediocre ratings support this. But we don't need to point to the Ahsoka show to know Zeb, Kanan, and Hera are not iconic.
If they would have just included the of characters it would have been one of the best sets of all time, Hera, Ezra, chopper, kanan, zeb, Sabine, what a step up that would be from these figs

I liked the big docking bay on the 2014 one, it gave this loading bay that you could load up with cargo and fly off like it's a top secret payload

I had both phantoms and the og ghost when they came out, I have all the figures, but each set is just parts in a bin rn. The downside of getting Lego at 5 years old
i bought an opened ghost that came with all the minifigs for 180, built it and sold it for 350... starting to regret a little
2014 ghost looks getter with where the phantom docks it looks like it should , a landing area where as the new one looks like ugly technic bits
if the newer ghost had better minifigs i would be more exited to buy it but i still love it

I do respect this and I agree that it made sense but I think I’d pick the old one because that was the last gift given to me by my dad before he died so the nostalgia definitely was what got me
I have wanted a lego Goust for Nine years but sadly because of the price I have never been able to get it but now they have brought out a new version that it much better I will have to get it
Honestly I feel like with most sets you either buy it for the figures or the set itself this was definitely one of those where you buy it for the actual set and the figures being worse is ultimately the trade off for such a good set
I hope one day lego makes a ucs ghost thats minecraft scale that has the bed rooms and all that it would be epic but yet i doubt they'd ever do that
The mini figs in the old one are better but that Heyra in the new one is better then the old one

Great vid I really enjoyed it! But just a heads up with some of your accuracy comments, the two models are lego adaptations of different versions of the ghost. This means the 2014 model IS accurate in some of its details (such as the cockpit dome and top down colors) , it was just referencing the old ghost from the rebels show.
interior is a big thing for me so I'm kinda glad I missed the original ghost so I have a reason to get the new one!
