What skills are you working on to form a habit?
Plant identification is something I'm constantly working on and trying to learn!!✊️🔥✌️💚
Navigation is sooo easy to forget and teach. Thanks y'all. Outstanding video.
The adventures of Bush Cat and sidekick Jason lol
Not trying to brag and by no means my skill-set is anywhere near yours, but: Being an 80's kid, I at the very least gained basic knowledge of all 5 disciplines just by playing OUTSIDE with my friends and regularly going on hiking tours with my family. We built different kind of shelters and small dams, gathered nuts and berries, carried belt and/or pocket knives and made our own hiking sticks and planned our tours using a map, etc. It were all completely natural things for us and I'm really shocked to see how fast the domestication of people is progressing. We need to get outside and do the things y'all.
Mate I am English. I was just thinking how us kids kept a fire burning for weeks when we were kids in the 70s....just started with embers and sugar! We walked everywhere, we explored. Even in school we were just sent out into the woods to play
Yes!!!
Born in the 70's. Grew up in the 80's, Dont remember much of the 90's. 00 till today. Hunting fishing ..playing every day. (Awesome song). Lived most my life in the mtns built a great skill set and still learning. Fun time we live in 😂😊
3:45 I was personally impressed myself by the intensity of the flame recently!
Was in the Amazon Rainforest 2 months ago in a Jungle Survival course. When the guide went to go start the fire, he grabbed his cigarette lighter and some trash plastic. I asked him if I could give it a shot and was able to light it up with our FireCard and a Viking Spark Necklace! I was actually surprised because we were in the middle of the jungle with the intense humidity and all the kindling was still damp from the rain the night before.
*Apparently, the go-to way for a jungle survival guide to overcome those harsh conditions is a cigarette lighter and plastic.

Bush kitty!!! Yeah! My favorite Bush cat! Love your new on3 block! But miss the splash! OK, back to the video!
lol. Thanks. You’ll see that logo again. Just changing sceneries
The girls are awake now watching your show. Our 5 form of survival habit - 1. Being well informed 2. Being a Team Player 3. Open to learning from anyone & anything anywhere. 4. Research on edible herbs & plants (vegan + two vegetarian) 5. Proficient in bushcraft tools. And 6. Making sure Mum & Dad are not too far away. Okay the last one is a backup.! Cheers Mr. Salyer, going to have breakfast now.
Love it!
guitar picks are made of different materials... even nylon, metal, or bone, but I guess you mean
celluloid... the same stuff old style film for movies was made... extremely flammable... and cheap to buy...
That's a 5-star shelter you made... my 1st tier [minimum] shelter is a mylar blanket that's always in my back pocket... it can double as a poncho cutting a hole
I bought 10 button compasses from eBay for 5$... they're everywhere... I can't not have one with me...
Water would be my first concern, here in Australia... I don't trust filtering systems for everything they claim too... so I carry a tester with my filtering system to detect chemicals, and I always boil it before drinking... to be sure!...
One more thing that I always carry is gaiters... it's snake country here... you have your rubber boots, but they are too much for here, even in winter...
PS: the bush cat isn't following you in the bush... but showing you around her hunting grounds...
Thanks! You’re right about Bushcat
A recent study found that in areas with hard water, boiling helped reduce the amount of nanoplastics by precipitating it out of solution with the calcium and/or magnesium solutes. Don't know if groundwater in many locations has much of that -- or how concerning it should be -- but by all accounts it's in most tapwater, and of course many packaged beverages . . .
1:00 That MacSalyer Cache Cap hack is the bees knees!
Sorry I'm leaving so many comments. My top five ALWAYS survival habits: Carrying a firearm, water, some food, fire making tools, golf umbrella that can double as walking staff. (I'm extremely fair-skinned and the umbrella will protect me from sun, rain, wind.)
Number 6 would be bug spray.
She is warm fuzzy buddy. She follows you around cuz she loves you.
I EDC a canteen carrier by Centerline Systems which I have camped over a weekend with along with carrying a wool sleep pad a bag of food, a water bag and chest pack that contains electronics, first aid/trauma & tools. This small, lightweight kit contains all the 5 items with redundancies of each item and a whole lot more. I have this kit perfected to camp quite comfortably with and believe that I could scale it back, but I truly enjoy your introducing limited resources versus widely varying applied knowledge combined with experience to expand societal knowledge. We need more of that and I wish your channel would crush the competition with viewership over the channels that promote utilizing as much gear as you can carry.
Thanks to you & JJ’s challenges, I’ve been carrying less-of-more-gear than just my EDC kit mentioned above& position them on my person. The skills are the skills, once you’ve acquired, confident & demonstrably proficient in them. Limiting gear to embrace the suck amplifies your creativity combined with acquired skills and pushes your training to a higher level. Thank you for encouraging more to expand their knowledge with your teaching style. I hope and pray for more viewers to yours, FTF & Survival Dispatch channel. 🙏🏻 🇺🇸
Awesome! That’s right. Keep divining what you’re doing
I agree with your top 5 with one caveat. For me, the most valuable survival skill is proficiency with edged tools. Being able to safely and competently use knives, saws, axes, machetes, et cetera that you have with you is the most important resource in many an arsenal. It all starts with a cutting tool.
That almost made the list. Would have been #6.
awesome content, Jason. Thanks and please keep making these types of videos...
These are my most practiced field skills, but there are many more...
1. Fire starting with no accelerant beyond ferro rod.
2. Water filtration, then purification.
3. Shelter from minimum manmade materials.
4. Visual tracking/profiling. human & animal patterns.
5. Knife/saw/hatchet safety, woodcraft.
These are the basic skills to survive IMHO with the minimum amount of gear.
Great video!! Btw, Bush kitty is awesome!!
The best!
"Bushcat, where have you been?" - "Killing dinner, of course..."
I appreciated your Olympic routine crossing the log / balance beam. I was worried when I didn't see Bush Kitty behind you, but now she's back, thank goodness.
Thank you your common sense and mostly achievable - by me - demonstrations.
You’re welcome
Two thumps up
Getting all my vaccines…washing my hands whenever possible…not drinking unfiltered water…extra socks…foot powder. Bushcraft Kitty needs its own merchandise and channel….Have fun stay safe.
I always have a sillcock key in my car and my day pack due to urban living. There are a lot of industrial buildings, schools, and state owned buildings dotted around where I live. A small hank of parachute cord is on me as well.😊
Great tip!
Your survival habits are quite proper ; the only thing that I could add is to familiarize yourself with easy to identify wild edibles and medicinals like trees and plants ; good field guides , and even better yet seek out an expert to get hands on instruction on identification and usage ; never use or consume anything unless you positively know it's the correct plant , flower , or tree . Thanks ON THREE !
Agreed! Thanks
Jason have you ever considered using a Millbank bag in conjunction with your water filter ? It could help the filter last longer .
Smart move. In my area the water is pretty crystal clear but in other areas, a pre-filter would be very smart.
Great video and very helpful without just talking but showing as well! Thank you for doing this for us all!😊 your a good man Jason, because your furry friends absolutely Love you!❤️
I appreciate that!
Guess you need to take Stoker's NAV class! 😁
Definitely
Thanks for Sharing
My pleasure
Working on making all of these skills habitual
I just found this channel and I’ve watched you on survival dispatch. Thanks for a great video and I will be watching more and I will subscribe have a lovely day in the neighborhood. Mr. Rogers knew what he was talking about.😊
Welcome aboard!
Awareness, carrying a T-rex, meaningful edc (not hype), avoiding certain situations, cat like reflexes
🤣
Another good one!
Thanks!
Whats that old saying? "Whats the fastest way to Carnegie hall? Practice. " The guitar picks are celluloid. Got a couple Fender mediums in my wallet. Every now and again, i run across something with strings that i can make sound awful. Excellent video sir. Keep'em coming.
Rock on! Thanks.
Thank you for the excellent video
You are welcome!
My thoughts on using electronic devices is this : what if you are forced out of your home by an overwhelming circumstance that is just completely out of your control, so you find yourself out in the brush just trying to survive the situation, and you find that your batteries have died and you have no way of replacing them, you'll need to learn to live without your gadgets.
Agreed!
Great video brother
I have taken two plastic one liter soda bottles, cut one in half and stuffed it with some dishtowels , using it as a primitive water pre-filter to remove as much visible debris from the water as possible while the water drips into the other bottle. It seems to work out ok, but it could be better, so I am in the process of replacing it with a Millbank bag. I'll wait and see how well that works. I also have a water bottle with a built in charcoal filter that, to my understanding will remove most if not all chemical agents in the water. So it looks as if between the filter systems I have, the boiling, and the purification tablets, I should be able to do a pretty decent job of cleaning up whatever water I come across out in the field.
Great idea!
Great content 👌 see ya on the next one
Thanks 👍
Good Advice
Thanks
Bush kitty!!🥰I’ll be heading this week down to Georgia to warby Parker the avenue peach tree city for their delivery Thursday morning so I’ll keep my eyes peeled for your truck in Georgia very slight chance im sure of meeting a superstar though Lol and sidekick maggie❤️. Bush kitty is so darn beautiful. I’m a total sucker for any animals and always carry tuna packets n stuff if I see any strays on the road so they can have an easy good meal❤️.my gma’s property in southern Ohio has several springs on it that my great gpa used in the day to make very well known moonshine here in Ohio years ago and he was very well known and i years ago found one spring and omg THEE BEST water I ever tasted🥰❤️
Keep an eye out and honk 4 times and I’ll know who it is! Ha!
@@ONThree thank goodness you said honk four times cause if you said honk three times it would become a bit weird given that song oh gosh before our time in 1970 Tony Orlando & dawn “knock three times” “ knock three times on the ceiling if you want me”…..🤣🤣sorry I love new music but I love older music too more classy but I knew your comment reminded me of a song🤣
I got the best email this morning, on 3 ulus were back in stock and i got one FINALLY!!!✊️🔥✌️💚
Wooooooohooooooooooo!!!!!!!
It is a fun little blade to add to your survival kit. I hope you enjoy it.
@ONThree exactly what I needed for my wallet survival kit has some grim survival fishing cards and minor first aid that will round it out for sure brotha!!✊️🔥✌️💚
Bushcat bagged a jay AND a deer? Might need to start keeping her indoors.
lol. Maybe
My tortishell would do the same thing follow me for miles worse than a dog
Edc kitty lol
Where do I find that machete?!?😍
Arthritis and tendonitis would make the Grayle a bad choice for me. What would be your second recommendation for on-the-go water purification?
Aquatabs work great
Tablets are super easy but don’t taste good. The sawyer is good because you can clean it. I don’t like anything with batteries.
@@ONThree well, I am all about taste. Is the Berkey Sport water bottle a good choice in your opinion?
My skills are ok to be let alone with only a knife in the wilderness for a week and I am in Eastern Europe, where it gets relatively cold. I consistently cannot wrap my head around the fact your videos get so few views Jason @ONThree.
Agreed, he's one of the most underrated guys in this community!
@@Wazoo Yep! My go to's to show to a friend are "ONThree", "GBGB" and "Corporal's Corner". Clean, without bullshit. Only useful information.
I very much appreciate that!!
That Wazoo wallet tinder card is a good idea, however, it seems like it's a one time use item. What if you just scrape some off of it into a small pile and save the rest of the card for future use ?
You can definitely do that. I was just demonstrating what the card can do.
Absolutely! Good question!
What kind of poncho do you use
Helikon
@@ONThree Thanks man
- bring some sort of cat. Got it.
Hahahahah!!!
@@ONThree good video :)
Top 5 habits all link to the same ... practice...
Exactly!
Where get that hat ??
I didn't see a label, but it's probably the Wazoo ball cap. He has talked about them before. Also check out their belts and other clothing items that have all kinds of hidden pockets in them.
@@nmr6988 I was looking. And figured. But thought their hats pockets were inside not on visor
It’s a Wazoo hat.
@@ONThree thx Jason
finding water here isn't difficult. finding water that doesn't have industrial crap.. or LITERALY crap.. in it is the problem. hard to purify chemicals
If you take your knife and scrap your blue jeans and get the lent from them it will make good tender
Good tip!
