Seth clearly doesn’t remember when he killed himself with a fetch land game one, thinks his opponent scooped, wins round two and then goes afk for game three to lose the match.

I'll be honest, I was not expecting that to be the punt. I was expecting the punt to be a lot more obvious. The worst part is your opp probably didn't even realize that snapcaster doesn't work with orb either This is why you shouldn't scoop early!
Yep, I was expecting something worse. While you're playing with Torpor Orb as a combo piece you only really think about what YOU need it for, not what it shuts down of your opponent's cards. I'd at least wait for surgical to be on the stack and have nothing to deal with it before scooping.
Nice that he remembers the menace on the creature. But forgets about the most important combo piece on the deck. Love to see it because it sure is fun! :D
A similar against the odds deck could be with master of cruelties. The "if unblocked, set your opponents life to 1" creature. Then, replace the torpor orb effects with random burn. Would be a somewhat better 2 colour deck with a similar silly gameplan.
Unfortunately, Master of Cruelties doesn't work with Vengeance, because MoC isn't a legendary creature. You'd need a haste enabler like Anger and an equally efficient reanimation spell to Vengeance, which I don't think exists in modern. You could potentially cut this down to Orzhov and play with Evra, Halycon Witness. Play some soul sister effects to get your life higher than your opponents and pay 4, "easy" win.
Oh god this reminds me of the time when I was new to magic and was playing a solemnity deck in modern. My opponent got the devoted druid/vizier of remedies combo. I scooped, then realised my mistake 😅

Cool shades Seth. Edit: Just saw the punt. I honestly laughed so hard with the edit with the zoom in and your reaction. Don’t worry about it. I make mistakes like that all the time in paper because it’s so easy to miss triggers and effects. I’ve lost more than one game I could have won because of those kinds of mistakes.
I hope you don't beat yourself up about it, Seth. No matter how many punts you do, you'll still be better than I'll ever be. Thanks for another great episode, it was a lot of fun. Cheers
We all have those moments. I one time had to break the news to someone that they incorrectly conceded a match at a GP that would have put them to day 2. He described the situation to me as I was playing in the command zone. For some reason he thought that lifelink life gain happened after damage and that he would have lost at 0 life before gaining life from his wurmcoil engine. He would have had lethal on the crack back. The look of utter disappointment and despair on his face still breaks my heart sometimes.
The deck could be turned into a turn 2 kill (turn 1 with perfect 7 + top card) by cutting stinkweeds and 2 keys, and adding 4 spirit guides. T1 land + neonate, T2 land, discard Phage to neonate, exile 2 guides, play torpor orb or honor guard & goryo's vengeance. Highly unlikely (8 out of 9 cards drawn), but technically possible. :)
8:30 Omg Seth nooooo!! Blood Crypt untapped, discard Phage to Lightning Axe into Goryos Vengeance for the win!!! The Punt!!! Either he missed a huge play or I'm missing something here haha
Sorry for the punt Seth, it happens! I didn't even realize you could make Phage unblockable and thought it wasn't even a punt because Snappy could chump block :D Cool against the odds anyway, lovely!
If you ever put "Mercenaries Tribal" in legacy as an option on Against the Odds I would choose that one. It is a pity they are limited to legacy (or Vintage LOL and they could be in Commander, that has probably already been done by Richard) though, if Masques block Mercenaries were in Pioneer or Standard I would probably still pick them for Against the Odds anyway.
Wouldn’t Hushbringer be great in this deck? You could run it with honor guard, or even use it instead of the guard because it flies and gains life, which is sometimes relevant.
Yeah, Hushbringer is fine too, the main question is how many Tocatli Honor Guard/Torpor Orb/Hushbringer style cards we need. I think eight is probably enough, and Tocatli Honor Guard and Torpor Orb are the two hardest ones to kill.
To be fair Seth, that was the ONLY time that Torpor Orb actually stopped an opponent's ETB effect all match so... I think its pretty easy to forget that Orb has actual applications and isn't JUST a combo piece lol
