- Here I talk about the differences between animal and monster in one hybrid dinosaur. This is why I think the Indominus Rex was such a monster in Jurassic World, despite the park's best efforts to perfect what happened in Jurassic Park. Chris Pratt's character of Owen Grady and his relationship with the Raptors like Blue plays a pretty integral role in my discussion. Hope you all enjoy! :D

I've seen people complain about how the new trilogy's raptors aren't nearly as violent and bloodthirsty as the ones in the original jurassic Park. But as far as I'm concerned, this video explains why they're slightly more docile and calm perfectly.
I hate it when people treated wild animals, especially extinct ones, as monsters, especially when they're well-behaved.
Tristan Pearson exactly. I own reptiles, specifically specialize in Reticulated pythons, and socialization is a MAJOR role that needs to be played in keeping them. These particular snakes are one of the most intelligent reptiles on the planet, and have been proven to recognize certain people. If they were to been treated poorly, then they would REMEMBER that all of its life, and would never trust said person. But, if you treat the animal with respect, give it food, and prove that you’re not a threat, then that animal ends up trusting you and being comfortable with your presence.
I agree but still think they went a little too far in the second jurassic world, they still attacked Owen when he gave them his back but in fallen kingdom Blue is basically his dog
@@creakingskull7008 Blue was the only raptor left, and she'd been alone for years. And despite that it wasn't a happy reunion with Owen, she was angry and distrustful of him for having abandoned her, and at the end she decided that she didn't need him anymore and struck out on her own willingly.
Right, they were raised right and socialized so they aren't going to be as hostile towards others. They are still wild so you must be careful.
As a falconer, we see a lot of these same concepts when it comes to imprinting raptors. Simple and subtle cues and behaviors can become exacerbated to the point where a bird raised by humans sees itself in a position where aggression can come out in unexpected ways.
Another aspect is enrichment, like you did indeed point out. Animals with little to no mental stimulation will try to find any way they can to get a release of endorphins, especially when it comes to predatory animals. Birds of prey have a MASSIVE release of dopamine when they catch something, and I would expect this to be somewhat similar.

@@ChasehaWing I could also imagine that it might have been a fight over dominance which occurs often under animals...mabye she misjudged her strength since her instincts are those of the dinsoaurs she was made of and not those appropriate for an animal like indominus rex

I mean we still see that kind of stuff nowadays.
Take a social, intelligent animal like dolphins, apes, parrots elephants or, yes, even humans, take away all their social interaction and treat it like an object and you will see DRASTIC changes in personallity.
That's why i think JW was really cleverly writen. The Indominus was the victim of this movie.
And while i rooted for the T.rex at the end of the big showdown, i still felt bad for it.

Ooh this video is interesting, one could say the Indominus Rex was one of the most dangerous unsubs (Unknown Subject) in the JP/JW Cinematic Universe, not only was she out to kill, but had killed her victims as if it were a form of sport, and to mention she also had raptor based intelligence and the size of a T-Rex or bigger, which is what truly made her so dangerous to those around her, humans or other dinos. The I-Rex was basically a psychopath in Dino form, she had zero remorse for her victims and seemed to toy with them, kinda like what happened when Owen and JW Employees went into her paddock, she intentionally lured them there, making them believe she had escaped.
That alone shows how intelligent the I-Rex is and thus making her a true killing machine and a violent one too.
IMO it is way more formidable than it’s later successor ever was.
She's actually a sociopath. A sociopath displays antisocial behavior caused by environmental factors, including lack of proper care, while a psychopath gets the disorder by genetic predisposition, including lack of empathy and obedience.

I kind of want to see what would’ve happened if Owen Grady had been in charge of the Raptors in the original Jurassic Park while Robert Muldoon was the overall game keeper. Granted; Grady would’ve likely been a child at the time but let’s just pretend that somehow him and blue along with Claire all somehow fell into a time warp and ended up in the original park just weeks before the original raptors were born.
I don’t think it’s fair at all to compare to the two. Especially when both exhibited different levels of respect for these animals.
Muldoon was an African game warden in charge of a whole new group of animals literally no one had studied prior, yet he still had a great amount of respect for them. To the point where he knew the danger level they presented and was openly adamant against his boss keeping them around.
Owen was someone who was introduced AFTER the failure of the first park and had the knowledge of what came before in order to rectify past mistakes.
Both men are equal, just in vastly different ways.
Imagine if the indominus didn't die and took over the whole island especially with how big she would've been

Very good, Klayton. And yes, speaking as an actual employee at a zoo (a wildlife park more specifically), how you treat and take care of animals will greatly influence how they treat you and others.

DUDE!!! I've always wondered about that since the film came out, whether it was abused at a young age or that it said enough is enough and wanted to get even with the humans at the park to show them whose boss.

I absolutely love the Indominus Rex from Jurassic World, she’s not only the best dinosaur villains ever but the best movie villains ever in 2015.
The Indominus Rex is basically Thanos from Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame and One Eye the Tyrannosaurus Rex from Speckles the Tarbosaurus because how intimidating the character was.

Hey Klayton great video! I just wanted to add my 2 cents. I work in the zoo field and spent the last 4 years working and studying with wild animals. As such I have seen this exact thing play out with modern animals. Animals that are not allowed to interact with their own species or even similar species lack proper social behaviours and tend to be more dangerous. I've seen two different crocodilians act completely different based on how they were raised. One was raised along with it's own species, recieved training from it's keepers, and as a result was easier to work with. The other was deprived of nearly all interaction and was kept isolated. As such it was aggressive and much more dangerous. While yes wild animals will always be wild, building proper relationships with the animals under your care is much better. Just recently a tiger attacked a keeper, but through the training they did with the animal other keepers were able to safely get the tiger to walk away and the other keeper survived. Ray Arnold said "we have all the issues of a major theme park and zoo". In Jurassic world they solved the theme park issues but acted more like zoos of the previous centuries. There were a number of ways they could have fixed things if the company had only remembered these were animals not machines.

I love the Indominus Rex, I don't know why, but she is just so cute and adorable, so beautiful and... I just love her ! And I also feel bad for her... she seems, to me, confused and helpless, she was mistreated and doesn't know hat she is.
I actually like the new movies. They don't have the magic of the first two, but the attention to detail and effort that shines through from the individual departments get me.

So did the indominus but she killed her sibling which shows she wants to be on her own and not with other of her species
Even The Big One was know to kill other Raptors, so nope.
It was the lack of space and proper care that caused all, wich combined with Majungasaurus DNA led to kill and eat the sibiling
Don't forget that he was present during their hatchling months/years and onward. He was able to supervise the four like how the parent raptors probably did.

Same thing can happen to any animal, even humans. Socialization is a major factor in the functionality of humans, animals and, well, dinosaurs, and without the interaction and learning of proper behavior or action from others of the same species, an isolated individual can go mad due to the loneliness. Not only that, but small living spaces can instate claustrophobia and insanity on an individual, and in the case of the IRex, isolation and very poor living conditions contributed to the creation of a brutal and unforgiving "monster". Just like with the original raptors, poor living conditions coupled with isolation (not really in the raptors case) turned what could have been a happy and unique dinosaur into a giant insane prisoner, who sought an opportunity to escape and tested its abilities and potential on the humans and dinosaurs of Isla Nublar. It had nothing to do with genetics.

This is very true because I've got a cat that got tormented when it was young and it was affected kinda badly when we first got him but we took care of him well and learned his nature to understand him more therefore making him a very nice cat today

@Klayton Fioriti I think I know why the ACU gunner couldn’t hit the I-Rex in the aviary scene and its very simple that the Gunner on the helicopter wasn’t able to hit the Indominus because it was running in a thick tree line at a very fast pace. And because Masrani (who only recently got his pilots license) didn’t know how to fly a helicopter in a combat situation. Now as for why the Indominus was able to survive the blast from a rocket launcher I’d say it’s either due to plot armor or because (and this may be a stretch) it’s built like a tyrant from the resident evil games.
Or the rocket barely missed a target, if you pay close attention. Getting barely hit from a rocket is like getting shoved, for a super hybrid dinosaur.

Yes, Klayton Animals can become monsters if not taken care of properly. its why the raptors (JP1) and indominus are blood thirty monsters. The Spinosaurus was the same, being bred,tested and experimented on for 9 months. it's why it was so determined to hunt Grant and the group around the island, it remembers what the last humans did to it. now i think about it, the Spinosaurus was like the Dinosaur version of Koba from the latest planet of the apes movie.

I definitely agree. It's something I've also had in mind for a while. I think the same could be said of the Indoraptor, and possibly the Spinosaurus as well.
Yeah, but you should have way more empathy for the spino and Indorapter. Both were abused and used as experiments, but not the indominus. That abomination literally ate it's own sibling and hunted for sports. Sorry, but the only animal trait or basically any animal that would do that is humans themselves. Even we should have more empathy with Indorapter and it's a male too. It didn't hunt for sports, when he saw a pure and innocent girl, he didn't try to kill her, but was instead just curious.
The Indominus Rex is sort of a parallel to "The Big One" in a few ways:
1. The secluded walled-off pen that was too small.
2. Fed only by a crane lowering food into the pen from above.
3. Killing their sibling/s in their cramped space.
4. Turned out being overall murderous psychos.
Indominus was like a bigger "Big one", just like the Indoraptor was a smaller I-Rex (except the Indoraptor was made specifically to kill, and somehow still turned out to be TOO psycho).
He said he imprints onto the raptors when they are born. It made me think "I wonder how large an indominus rex egg is? And how large an infant imprinting rex would be as well." I imagine a raptor playfully bowling you over the moment u enter the cage and its taller than you...
Not necessarily. Many large animals still lay eggs/have babies that are relatively small compared to the adults. I mean just look at an adult tortoise compared to a hatchling, or even caimans. Though most animals grow at a *much* faster than humans
Well, according to some studies I've found, there hasn't been an egg any larger than an ostrich egg, considering the structure and pores required to keep the egg alive. That's the best idea I can come up with for the Indominus Rex hatchling.

Something random for ya... if you go back and watch the lost world.... the scene just before Roland talks about a man climbing Everest, Dieter is walking behind Nick Van Owen.... if you look at Dieters shoulders there’s a flashlight on each side.... I never noticed in my 20+ years watching, but those flashlights follow Dieters head movements! At first, I thought it was moving with his body but there’s one moment his body is looking one way, his head the other but the flashlights followed his head.... The Indominus Rex is the biggest baddest dinosaur in the Jurassic World franchise. There's no denying the fact that it was monstrous genetic freak that caused destruction & chaos everywhere it went!
And the way it’s caretakers were denied information about it’s abilities was the reason why it eventually got out. Almost makes you wonder where Wu’s loyalties truly were and whether the Indominus was meant to do what it did, as if it was a Trojan horse to take out Masrani Global through a PR disaster.

I never clicked onto this, but you're right. The situation with the Raptors in JP and the Indominus is literally exactly the same. Both were moved to a small, cramped enclosure after attacking the feeders, both only had a positive connection with the crane that provided them food, and both became monsters because of this mistreatment. Amazing how they made literally the exact same mistakes.

Spinosaurus vs T-Rex is along the same lines as Lion vs. Alligator. Specified apex predators with explicitly different physical builds. But hey, the spino on Sorna isn't a full spino, and is arguably one of the first hybrids that Wu and Crew fucked around with during their little trist after the Nublar Park Incident.

I heard about a man, near where I live that had over 30 dogs, mutts to be exact. He died in his home and no one realized it, the dog's devoured his corpse bone and all since there were no more humans around to care for them. The police had to call in animal control and many of the dogs were euthanized because they developed a taste for human blood, they weren't monsters to begin with, they did what they had to to survive, but it altered their psychological state and they became aggressive towards man. They simply needed someone to care for them, when their owner died they did what they could and sadly no one could prevent it.

SpikeZilla 54 That links into the misconception that bulldogs are inherently dangerous. It’s not the breed, it’s how they’re raised. Any breed of dog has potential for aggression, no matter how small and cute they look. If you raise them right they can be complete softies to you, even bulldogs. Dinosaurs of course have the factor of their survival instincts, which is why Owen has to clarify he can’t completely tame the raptors and still needs to show them respect despite his influence with them.

Dude! Very well said! I think Jurassic World has a lot of subtle messages that the critics glazed over. This was one of them: the scientists created a new animal with unpredictable behavior and needs and they never learned those behaviors or needs.
The animal most likely had some mental problems in the beginning. But the way they raised it and looked after it most definitely asserbated it's already messed up mind.
Honestly, I feel bad for the I-Rex being raised in isolation without proper care, making her into a sociopath, which is why she hated humans, and she wanted to be free from captivity.
Also, people, who really complained about the Raptor Squad and wanted to be treated as monsters than animals for the sake of 'suspense', never understand how animals behave, especially when they're complaining how accurate the dinosaurs were, and they didn't care because they believed nature is evil when in actuality, they, people themselves, are the true monsters, which is scarier than nature.
To be fair, she had a brother. And she ate him.

This one in particular talking about an animal mental health is awesome since people do need to remember that animals need proper care & attention along with being properly understanding on how a animal may/may not behaviors & treat said animal with respect.
I saw a post not too long ago on Tumblr that said one of the reasons the first park failed was because they didn't have adequately trained zookeepers to tend to the animals on the park, not were the animals adequately stimulated. One thing that always bothered me about the first park was how cramped the raptors were in that tiny little enclosure they had. (I didn't know it was a quarantine holding pen until now). But forcing 3 full-grown raptors into that small space would, of course, make them aggressive as hell. Take a look at the animals we have today. In zoos, if their needs are not met, they too can become overly aggressive and become ill from the lack of proper care (see the indoraptor).
The raptors in the first would need enrichment, things to play with, and encourage them to use their minds, just like Owen did with his raptors, and how zoos will give their animals toys and puzzles to solve for food rewards. As for the Indominous? What gets me is the level of intelligence she has, not to mention what other DNA has been tossed into her makeup. She has opposable thumbs for hecks-sake, which could mean she has primate DNA as well as raptor. If you throw that into effect, then she might be a social animal with 0 social cues. She would have needed someone like Owen to raise her and others to keep her social needs in check as well as plenty of things to keep her mind busy. A bored animal can also be aggressive and destructive (as you stated in this video ^^; )
First and it is too obvious the Indominus Rex is a monster! She killed a lot of people and is so intelligent!
I would say the individual was a monster, because of circumstances. Owen's Raptors ars a good example of how proper care can affect the dtate of an animal. If she was properly taken care of, none of the events of JW would have happened.

I LOVE this video! This is one of the primary reasons I like Jurassic World. Could you do a similar video on the JP3 Spinosaurs consistant aggressive behavior and the Indoraptor as well? The latter I think having been in an even worse state than the Indominus was. Beaten, not properly fed and locked in a cage in a dark room.
