The Indominus Rex Almost Looked Way SCARIER In Jurassic World

  • The Indominus Rex almost looked extremely scary in Jurassic World with these alternate creepy animal designs that showcase a monster Spielberg was trying to bring to life for nearly 20 years. Isla Nublar almost had these more terrifying creatures instead of what we got so I thought Halloween would be a great time to talk about some of these Tyrannosaur and Raptor hybrids. There are even some that look more Spinosaur in nature!

    100% agree about the films going back to basics. We need that slightly slow burn, authentically scary horror element back. That build up plus more terrifying dino designs and the Jurassic universe is resurrected.

    I still think it's possible for scary predators again, given the right creative conditions. The way the Giga was handled was disappointing overall, but even smaller theropods can be terrifying. Size isn't everything, as the lions in The Ghost and the Darkness are smaller than JP's Velociraptors.
    But I agree, the Malusaurus as a made up in-universe dinosaur is pretty confusing, and being a hybrid makes more sense.

    5:02 that’s the best design imo. I love the idea of InGen creating a sickly, unstable creature, and deciding to ignore any red flags that come up during its’ development because of all the time and money they sank into creating it. It probably wouldn’t have sold as many toys, but it looks like a great dino antagonist for a more horror-based story.

      Need more hybrids in universe. Perhaps an illegal cloning facility in S. Korea or China could create monsters for an Asian Park. Could see some new species from the East. Perhaps the park become successful as a nature preserve. 🤔

    • @MrSirFluffy
      @MrSirFluffy 9 місяців тому +1

      @@hackman669 I remember during my fanfic writing days I wrote a pretty cool series about Jurassic World (most my fanfics were cringe in retrospect), but this one was awesome and I look back on it like "damn I was on to something". One of my VERY few projects that aged great and doesn't make me want to die of cringe.
      I called it Jurassic Park: Facility 9
      It was a series about an abandoned facility of InGen after the downfall of their park. One of the facilities were kept secret from Hammond and was funded in secret through money funneled from InGen. When InGen went down the facility wasn't shut down properly because no one knew about it. The things happening there were very illegal so even the few researchers who worked there never brought it up.
      The property containing "Facility 9" was eventually auctioned off during the liquidation of InGen's assets, a new corporation had unknowingly bought this property without knowing the secrets it contained. This facility was where abomination's and failed clones were sent for study, and where hybrid research was conducted (this was prior to Jurassic World so I had good foresight). Instead of euthanizing "failed" dinosaurs, some researchers sent them to Facility 9 for further research. The dinosaurs seemed healthy by Jurassic Park standards as technically ALL dinosaurs are failed clones. It's just some did not match what we'd assume, so they were tossed away.
      The company that purchased the large property (tens of thousands of acres) did biome modification research, the property was very remote and had above average terrain variation vs most locations so it was perfect for research purposes. Small research teams/squads were placed on the property with limited supplies and equipment to setup makeshift labs. Unknowingly to them, in the center of the property where their communications station was set up Facility 9 was hidden nearby built in to the terrain to semi-camouflage the lab. The facility was falling apart with no maintenance or power for months now, and many of the dinosaurs had escaped and taken over many parts of the property. In the start of the series after they arrive, only a few days in, the small team in the communications hub are killed by dinosaurs and the few survivors run out into the wild to hopefully find one of the stations.
      The series basically follows the stories of the different squads trying to survive in their own section of the land. Cool dinosaurs with realistic twists and abilities are introduced as needed, one of which is Spinosaurus who could camouflage (CALLED IT!), it was based off of a raptor in the books that actually changed colors which was never shown in the movies. Another is a group of raptors with bat-like sonar screeches and abilities, they hunt with echo location and are terrifying because you can hear them from miles away. As soon as you hear them you know they are likely within range to hunt you since they have great tracking skills. So hearing them in the far distance builds hours of dread because you know it's only a matter of time before they catch you.
      The goal of many of the characters is to survive long enough for the banks or investment groups to realize something has gone wrong astray since they aren't receiving updates regarding their expensive research. This will take an unknown amount of time to our protagonists, so they don't know if they will be their for days, weeks, or even months. They don't even know if rescue is possible since no one knows the dangers of the land they are now stuck in.
      Jurassic World went on to actually parallel think some of my ideas, which was pretty cool. Though if you through spaghetti at a wall eventually some stick, but still neat.

    Okay, the "spinoraptor" designs are actually pretty brilliant. I can only imagine that a cross between the spinosaur and a JP-style raptor would be _terrifying,_ particularly if it kept the raptor-level intellect, speed, and agility, but had scaled it up thanks to the spinosaur DNA in the mix. Also, the malusaur has one hell of a design, particularly the version with the red skin...makes me think of Old World vultures, like an Egyptian vulture or a Lammergeier (bearded vulture).

    That would've been a nice touch to add a dorsal fin to the Indominus. It would answer the question of what happened to the Spino after JP3. In fact, the JP3 Chaos Theory mission in JWE2 attempts to answer just that. The Spino dies by being attacked by a pack of Raptors, and the body is sent off to Isla Nublar for the Indominus project.

      @@Unbearable_Truth from what i've heard and saw, the military scene is just a fanmade and it was never a part of the original script. But about spino being killed by group of raptors, that was in the original script but that idea was scrapped. And then if you watch CC, actually it wasnt that hard to capture the spino. In one scene, you can see that spino can be paralyzed easily after Darius throws a canister containing sleeping gas at spino and spino immediately falls asleep after that.

    The indominous rex was a scary hybrid I remember when I saw the trailer for the first Jurassic World movie even though they only show her claws in the trailer I have always liked the horror esque jurassic Park theme they used in the trailer seeing all these unused concepts for the I-rex but I liked how the indominous turned out in the film.

    I really love the Scorpios Rex too, and I feel like it’s actually realistic. I feel all the hybrids made are the only hybrids that should be kept. I feel like making a perfect hybrid that is so beautiful but has an aspect that makes you feel uneasy isn’t a easy task, I feel the scorpios rex being the first hybrid as a test that failed is really interesting and good storyline to show. And then the Indoraptor got a bad wrap because it was made before Camp Cretaceous and we were a bit confused why they decided to bring back a hybrid and basically said it was being overused, but knowing the indoraptor was Dr Wu’s way to make a successful scorpios rex makes so much more sense and is actually a good plot line to follow

      I see too many fans of one movie or another who will say "X movie is shit, Y movie did A so much better" and I'm just like "Fans of the Z movie say the same shit about your movie!"
      People really can't just accept that media and fiction is for fun.

    I personally have never been sold on the mosquito DNA thing to begin with. I know in the original film they explain how you can't synthesize dinosaur DNA without massive sequence gaps, which were filled using frog DNA --- but I think ((And I'd argue Dr Wu's rant in JW implies)) that they weren't ever actually extracting dinosaur DNA from mosquitos, rather they were creating genetic hybrids in the likeness of 80s dinosaurs, using genetic engineering and hybrid DNA from modern animals. The mosquitos were just a cover story for the press to distract from their illegal hybrid animal research.
    I mean think about it --- Jurassic Park planned to have the mosquito demonstration as part of their public park tour. Yet they were also worried about Biosyn stealing their patented techniques? If you had a monopoly on the method to extract dinosaur DNA, and were afraid of corporate competition, why would you go public with the knowledge of how you did it? It also conveniently explains why it is that their dinosaurs look like science's best understanding of dinosaurs, as of the 80s. The engineers at jurassic park didn't want real dinosaurs --- they wanted animals that looked like the dinosaurs in picture books so they could sell more toys and tickets.

    The bioweapon angle isn't bad, it just doesn't make any sense to make large dinos like Indominus Rex for that purpose. Smaller dinos around the size of the spitters would be much more effective overall for being able to get at people wherever they try to hide. With raptor like intelligence, speed, jumping and possibly even gliding/flying along with paralytic bite from compy's and camouflage ability you'd have an effective mini-soldier creature able to be fielded in far larger quantities by comparison to a big beast

    • @matthiuskoenig3378
      @matthiuskoenig3378 7 місяців тому

      what you want is a bullet proof/resistant, climbing, stealth raptor. with an internal tranquiliser. venom might count as a warcrime under existing rules. gliding would add features that get in the way of terrestrial agility, and most places it would be useful could be achieved through long jumps instead.

    I feel like Indominous however-you-spell-it final design was, while good, a bit of a missed opportunity. It looks too similar to a normal spino mixed with trex made albino. I wanted to see something a little more implacable. A little more ambiguous and grotesque. I love the abandoned idea with the cricked neck looking one, that looks freaking gnarly. Like you see that coming at you and you don’t know what it wants. Indominous wants meat, it’s hungry. But that thing? It’s probably hungry. But maybe it’s just crazed and rabid. I love that.
    The franchise could have a really good way to fix themselves. They could make a movie about a lab and another island and a whole batch of new genetic dinosaurs, similar or totally off the wall. They drop hints through the film, and only at the end is it clearly revealed, this film goes back in time to the original park or even before- and was a failed island that no one survived to tell about. Or, some survivors escaped, but weren’t believed or they just fled and never spoke of it again. That puts it back in the cannon timeline and gives creative freedom without undoing current cannon.
