- This is a direct visual comparison of Turn 10's Forza Motorsport 7 (2017) and Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo Sport (2017).
The lighting won't be exact in these comparisons, but we can still look at textures, aliasing, and various model side-by-sides.
GTSport is 100% running at the upscaled 4k mode. Because I'm playing on a 4K display, the option to change the framerate/resolution is not available. Refer to the link below.

Forza for the cars and tracks. Graphics over content is a dumb priority considering the gameplay is virtually identical.

This is why it takes polyphony so long to make a game,with all that detail but I'm also learning a lot about manufacturers ,cars and racing lol it's a Part of the game that I really appreciate at the age of 50.
Yess that’s definitely one thing about gts. I love how they meshed education and information into the game. I’ve learned more that I thought I would have in my 3 weeks playing so far.

Talking about graphics even with Forza having more resolution on some things i always saw GT Sport more photoreallistic
budaroddy the resolution it’s not a huge difference if you play on the Pro. Now on the PS4 the jaggy edges are a little too much for me. I play on the pro and the Xbox one x and GT looks better overall compare to Forza 7

It's very realistic because there is a limited amount of cars. Therefore giving them time to perfect all the small details.

Nick930 Gts always felt like an arcade game to me though... If you look in the video it would seem like the cars don’t shift or burn tires in that game, it has the same high angle camera that it’s had since the beginning and the same turning mechanics also

Personally, the only thing Forza 7 has over Gran Turismo is native 4K resolution. Car models have higher polygon count and detail. For example take the Veneno. There's an animation on the dash when the gear changes. No game with that car does that animation except Gran Turismo. As for the lighting Polyphony has been the king in this department for years and it hasn't change. I can't wait to see the weather in GTS.
I agree, but the interior designs of some of the dashboards looks much better in Forza. There's more flashing lights, dials, working rear-cameras, and various other little details that make GTSport look severely lacking.
It's kinda a mixed bag. Both games have things that look awesome, and things that look crappy. Can you imagine if these two worked together on a racing game?

Based on this footage alone, it does appear that gtsport has better lighting. But better conditions can lend themselves to better visuals
Nick930 if you compare the replays of gt sport vs forza, its really easy to tell that forza is a game. Just my opinion but forza’s 4k offers sharper visuals at extremely tight angles, no doubt

GT Sport really focused on detail from the reflection on the cars to details outside the racing itself. If I had to choose, GT Sport would be my favorite, although Forza is still an amazing game, also.

ACTUALLY, in replay mode, GTS has incredible lighting.
Forza is a casual game, fun car game.
GT is a strategic, competitive racing game.
GTSport really did a good job on their headlamps and tailights..
You forgot to mention how Forza 7's cars don't seem connected to the track.

Especially with no sunlight, the cars seem like they float above the track and I believe they are being rendered separately. It doesn't look right.
Cory Wells hm I never noticed that. Project cars 2 seems to have more realistic weight distribution overall, so both gtsport and forza seem wonky to me in that regard
Nick930 I also never see in car footage of Saw lies from the third person and it looks like the road renders faster than the car does like it just seems like it's floating and has a cinematic view to it

Tail lights? They are actually more of a light pink/yellow tint b/c that’s the direction new cars are going in. The saturated red should be on the older cars only.

I zoomed in on the cars in GT Sport & don't see any choppyness of the edges like you show. Only some user added decals show aliasing
Try brands hatch using the same lighting conditions and vehicle shown here. Don't use the game's built in photo-mode, but zoom in on actual gameplay.
Yes there is sharp edges in gts like in video. Only photo mode makes it look good. If you just take screenshot not in photo mode all edges looks bad. In motion it looks ok sure.

in forza you can tune the cars perfomance tuning you can switch in cars complete the engine or cosmetics rims etc or LB Works.

Not if you play online. Online races are vastly superior in GTS, as you're matched with similarly skilled players. The races end up having much more quality this way.
GT Sport is kind of like the Wii Sports of Gran Turismo games. The music, the training, it all gives me a Wii Sports vibe.

Keep in mind that if you're watching HDR vids on YT it will make them look a bit duller. In person the colour temperature and the intensity of the Sun is fantastic in Forza 7. Much better than in previous games.
Alternatively, GT Sport does a fantastic job flexing HDR on the car's head and taillights, something that wasn't done in Forza as effectively.

@@qksf1645 technically if you've been playing lot of sim you'd realize GTSport still handles physics better as a simcade than Forza. FM being a decent simcade is no longer an existing sentence since the death of FM4.

In every comparison he claims that Forza 7 has better graphics because of the 4K, but come on. Let’s face it: GT Sport has way better graphics and online experience. Forza 7 has nothing new to brag about to bring into their Forza series, but GT Sport has made a comeback for the Gran Turismo series, and Polyphony is already talking about their next entry, which will be called GT7(Google it).

Adding something new... come on don't fool yourself. GT Sport has to be the WORST entry in the GT series because of limited content in release and some of the lowest car count in the game (other than GT1).
Sure yes they are pushing updates and adding stuff, but it's sad and pathetic how PD can release an unfinished game and asking for full price to play it. It's the same reason why I stopped caring about GT after GT5. Ever since they've started that "prologue" shit....
And also I don't care about Forza 7, at least Forza 7 came out with most of it's content with single player and online.
GT1-GT6 all released their games in full price with tons of content.... never needed to push out updates to add content which was supposed to be in the game.
GTSport is a joke, giving us like 1/3 of a game in day one and charging full price for it is sad. And you defend it because "durr they are adding content". Doesn't matter, it should have been there in the first place.

GTSport is a good game, both in gameplay and in graphics. But it's the worst entry in the series because of the lacklucker content which really doesn't add anything or the small amounts of content. which gran turismo was meant to be known for.
Hier Roasler yeah it is copied from fm6 but why you re create a damn same asset for same console? Also it's not like PD is not guilty for this shit. They copied GT5 asset to GT6 and added the interiors for all car models. Also it makes sense to just copy asset because it's run on same generation console and the devs had a time to build an asset for a new cars rather than re create already existing car asset
I can absolutely 100% Confirm, that this footage was recorded with GTSport set to 4k w/ HDR ON. In fact, the game won't even let me change the setting because my output is a 4K television.
Yes. This is PS4Pro. GTSport by default is set to Quality" mode (**1800p checkboarded and then** upscaled to 4k @ 60fps)
Yes. This is XboxOneX. Forza by default is set to native 4k/60fps
Both games are played on a Native 4K output (Sony XBR 900E) through a 4K receiver (Yamaha RX-V681BL) and recorded via an Elgato Game Capture HD60 card. Both games are recorded at 1080p 60fps (limitations of Game Capture card). The HDMI's are running through a 4K HDMI splitter so no, the Elgato is in no way changing the game's output resolution.
When outputting GTSport on a 4K display, the game will default to the highest quality. It is IMPOSSIBLE to play at 1080p, so anyone saying this footage is of the 1080p mode is simply wrong.

The only footage captured in the game's "Replay Mode" is the last bit with the blue McLaren. The footage of the Corvette C7 is true ingame footage.
small correction. it is checkerboard(!) 1800p and then upscaled to 4k. so its not a native 1800p up to 4k. and i think it shows during more bright time of day. native 1800p would be sharper than what we have in GT Sport. But still good enough for that console to run this game with its graphical features that well in 60 fps.
to me GT Sport in relation to FM7 looks better. if you would give polyphony digital the power of the X then GT Sport would look better than FM7. (except resolution it already does imho)
Ah thanks for the correction. You are absolutely correct, I'll edit my response to be more specific. I was under the impression it was 1800p check-boarded to 4k. The whole checkerboarded thing has made these much more confusing that's for sure.
But yes, i agree, GTSport looks gorgeous on PS4Pro running on a 4K display, especially with that HDR, and to think they got it running at 60fps is remarkable.
But then I said Forza 7 had a higher resolution, and everyone wants my head on a spike. It's a fact, Forza has a higher res. What they didn't bother sticking around to hear was that I said GTSport had much better looking details like those tail-lights and reflective surfaces.
Nick930 Lighting in gt sport is absolutely fantastic i agree. Especially in dawn or dusk conditions the hdr truly shines. Love the rear and brake lights. In Forza 7 they are so damn weak. Some cars have not even tail lights on when its raining or a night race. Takes so much away from the immersion.
Oh i know, I was surprised by the rear brake lights and how much better they looked in GTSport. Forza looks great on the surface, but when you really start to break it down, GTSport clearly has better attention to details.
I tried GTSport on night-time settings today and the volumetric lighting from the rear brake lights was a bit excessive in HDR, have you noticed this? It was like a cloud of red light behind my car.

Lighting and texturing is definitely better in GT sport, I haven't actually played FM7 yet, to give my opinion would be biased...
GT at its current updating pace would probably reach 300-400 cars by the time PS5 comes. Its car models are superior. Its graphics is a Ray Tracing engine fitted in a console which is bonkers. Its real world tracks are officially certified by FIA by being exceptionally accurate. The new tracks being added are also overseen by FIA so they could be competitive. Official races have BOP. Its got a much more organized online experience where you are sorted by driver rating. Its also got much better physics than Forza.

Very clear error in Forza regarding shadows at Mount Panorama. The circuit is located in Bathurst, outside Sydney, Australia. It's in the southern hemisphere, which means sun will rise in east to west but be from the north. This is absolutely correct in GT Sport which is on the left (north) of the main straight. However, Forza has the sun coming from the south. This would be correct, only if the track was in the northern hemisphere. But this is a lack of attention to detail. It's impossible to have the sun come from this direction.
Glenn Stewart that's what I figured, thanks for clearing this up. I knew only one of theelse two got it right, and I think I mentioned is in the next video because project cars 2 also has it correct.
Forza got lazy with it
Nick930 no worries. Great video. Nice to avoid bias as well. I have driven along Mt Panorama many times (it’s a public road). Driven it in GT Sport and it feels very accurate. Was recently at Laguna Seca and that’s spot on as well. They certainly get the elevations and feeling of the circuits really right. Both games are light years from predecessors.

And yeah, I'm not biased when it comes to this because I'm not really a big racing gamer. I'm all about graphics, and gtsport has great lighting, but that lower res can def hurt image quality.

Gran turismo is much more mature
I have both and even if I enjoy GT Sport as much as FM7 when playing (VR ❤), FM7 cars behavior is a lot more realistic. Even with all assists disabled, you can easily feel how more arcade the game is.

That was neat! Crazy how you do not notice the jagged edges in gt sport while playing it! When i play it im going to look closely at it. I do not have xbox one X to do this kind of comparison but thoroughly enjoyed it. Though I love my GT sport!
Re: Corvette in GT Sport. Forza uses the 2015 C7R and GT Sport uses the 2016 C7R. The biggest change between the two was in fact the rear diffuser. No idea where that wing came from though.

I find that as games progress in some areas, they also seem to take full steps backwards in other areas which doesn't make any sense to me. They're supposed to improve in every area for future installments

Two big differences between this two, in Forza the change in time and weather, really puts some good immersion, but the fix lighting in GT make possible a really better lighting, shadow and reflection, to me, this was the more prominent differences...
Forza is good but for gts not being 4k it's a lot better personally I play gts and playing it on a decent monitor or TV it look superb
Gran Turismo 5 will always be my favorite racing game. There was just so much you could do In it and for the time a lot of cars to choose from. I also liked gt6. Hope Gran Turismo sport lives up to it

I checked out a few of these vids. Loads of my mates have PS4 and I’ve got an xbox1, I caved and got a PS4 about a year ago.i got the racing bug again and gave GTS a shot, hated it. Just personal opinion. (I feel like anyone who says anything bad about GT on these things immediately gets attacked by butthurt fans) I don’t have a 4K Tv just two standard consoles both with a controller not wheel. For the many similar people I feel will be out there who aren’t rich enough to be playing all this 4K jazz, if you have the option, buy Forza 7. It’s just more fun i think. Just my 2 cents, peace
Iain Birch I own both and prefer gt sport. Two reason; one, I like the actual driving more and two, online racing. If you want single player then forza 7 is much better. Gt sport barely has a single player anyway. Lol
a tricky comparison because the Forza graphics has been reduced and GT sport has PS 5 graphics
great video! unbiased videos are truly enjoyable to watch. one note is that you missed the opportunity to talk about level of detail in the models themselves, while forza has crisper colors and textures, gt has more detailed (probably higher polygon count) models (which you mentioned as looking more realistic). a good example that you’ve already shared is around 3:45, the panels look more defined and separated, also where the hex pattern meets the lights, there are edges. it’s a very small detail but being able to follow actual construction of materials with the design of in game models is a good way to tap into realism.

Kusuma Yogi dude you can easily do a metallic paintjob to get the same result as in GT sport. All cars have a semi glossy finish as standard on forza motorsport.

Need to clarify something: Forza doesn't use sprites for trees. Alpha transparent polygons that intersect are used. Sprites always rotate along with the player's view as those are 2d not 3d. GT used sprites for the trees.
Very interesting. I've read a few articles about sprites and was under the impression that sprite is an overlay term, referring to the class of 2D objects used in 3D gaming, and that alpha transparency is a subclass of them, that don't necessarily rotate based on viewpoint but are static in the environment.
Yeah sprites are 2D images in a 3d plane.
This is a single polygond with a texture of a bunch of leaves with a black and white (+grey values if you want parts that are semi transparent) alpha map applied to the transparancy channel. And it intersects with another polygon.
(Texture)maps are 2d images applied to 3d meshes. Sprites are just 2d images in a 3d plane. They only have a few coordinates but aren't attached to something.

Both Games have Pro's and Cons, I heard people complain about both, I heard people praise both. GT Sport has the better lightning when there is light, and yes the reflections look good as well, and GT Sport has a better penalty and ghosting feature. Forza 7, however, has way more content, like way-way more content. It has the better weather effects since GT Sport simply lacks any. You can't really say any of the Two is better than the other. Both are more on the Simcade side of things, both are shifted more towards Simulation but handling wise still a tick more to Arcade to make it more accessible. Even if Grand Turismo calls itself a Real Driving simulation, it never was one and never will be.
Real sims are by far more difficult, If you go full Throttle out of a corner the ass won't move a bit it will go ballistic on your ass. Assetto Corsa, iRacing, Race Room Those are modern Sim Racer.

ninetenduh Yeah Forza has much more content but in GT Sport it's pretty obvious that Quality is focused on over quality. You can tell the car models are so much like real life

Hello. I just playing GTS. And suddenly all my cars except the dlc are gone. How I can recover it? I've tried to redownload my saved game in psn cloud but nothing changed, all my cars still missing. Is anybody here know how to recover it? Thanks

yes because its just some small infield track in a stadium hidden somewhere in the tier 6 campaign missions or so. its like the devs did not even want you to find it.

Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that they are working on the weather for some tracks... all cars in gt sport have full functional windshield whipper, and there are tires for rain too...
I mentioned this in the video briefly as well. I'm looking forward to seeing how Polyphony deals with rain effects.
I'm a GT player originally as I owned playstation 1 and 2 , but brought an Xbox 360 and FM2 and fell in love with the franchise, till this day enjoy both franchises , it may blow people's minds but it's ok to enjoy both , we are lucky to have two racing franchises who make brilliant games 👍

FM7 is an underrated but ALSO underdeveloped game. T10 had so much to work with and they imo dropped the ball on the single player modes. An ideal single player career array would look something like the FM7 online lobbies, with tons of very specific car classes, mixed class races etc. Viewing custom liveries in FM7 is also flawed, since you cant examine the prospective downloads in Forzavista until after you have installed it.
