Get the FREE One-Month Day checklist here: www.flowstate.com/onemonthday Rían here. Tired of feeling like a zombie at your desk, struggling to stay focused? There's a simple, science-backed way to fix it. With the techniques in this PDF, you can stay in flow state all day and exceed a month’s worth of work in 11 hours.
2 steps 1 setup up your main working environment Basic: - sitting / max 2 hours - standing / 5/10 min, per 30 min of sitting - walking Flow state improvements: stand 50% of the time walk 25% of the time Sitting 25% of the time 2. setup three additional working environments change environment will improve your productivity Deep work block of multiple hours (2/3 hours) A new event begun at every environment like a sprint Main office couch Coffee shop
Would add the last few sentences here to round the summary up: When you get a dip in energy/sense that work gets hard, change your position. When you feel fatigue is kicking in, change your places. Really great cues to go on day by day!
1. Set up your main WORKING ENVIRONMENT (morning my home: sitting+standing+walking) 2. Set up THREE ADDITIONAL working environments (Home-Library-Classroom) Mindset: Sitting is not synonymous with working - Your environment shapes your stamina.
Some takeaways: 1. Optimize your environment to sharpen stamina and dopamine 2. Loosen your body (standing > sitting while working - also do some working every now and then) 3. Shifting environments can help regain focus (trick your brain to think you worked less time) 4. Standing means the work feels temporary, so you know you are focusing on something you want to finish 5. Stand 50% of the time Walk 25% of the time and Sit for 25% of the time 6. Motion boards help when you are stand-working 7. Four stages of flow: struggle, release, flow, recovery 8. Get past the struggle through environment shifts (aim for 3 places) and removing distrations
Yo, what's the correlation between flow state and ADHD hyperfocus? I have ADHD symptoms but I haven't been diagnosed for it, but I just spent 6 straight hours studying without a break, because I enjoy the subject of course, but I noticed that it felt like I was absent somehow. Like I wasn't here. Like, I just stood up right now because of the need to go pee, and because I feel hungry, but It just felt like I went somewhere I just came back to reality right now. Now is that flow state, or ADHD hyperfocus?

Really good video mate one suggestion I have is if you can do a video on discipline cause what I have learned through my countless failures is that when ever I fail to do something over a long period of time it’s not motivation, flow state, or rlly anything else but a lack of discipline is the root cause
At the moment (I'm still trying different approaches) I don't see any problem with discipline at all. Just think about what you really like: TV shows, video games, hiking, etc. (what are you up to). I'm sure there are some things that you can do many hours in a row. You have to trick your brain into doing the hard things as if you were playing. If you are really interested in getting results in your work, you will be able to figure out how to do that. Imagine the person in your field (better if you are know them personally). What would they do? My acquaintance works on papers on the train, talking about work tasks during his lunch break (don't think it's boring, he speaks interesting and inspiring). So, I ask myself: what would he do? Of course, when you are tired, you take a break, like in this video.
I am doing this everyday in my work. I work with data entry and when I get tired I go and di some work in terrain. When I get tired on terrain I get back to computer. When I get complitely fatigue I have a 5 minute walk to the bathroom, which is far from my workplace😂 and I feel refreshed again. I completely agree with this guy. Keep up with this content man. You are rocking.💪.
Interesting. Sixty years ago while attending grade school, the Nuns had rotating classes. For each subject hour , we would move to a different classroom. They knew boredom made it harder to concentrate and a new environment would eliminate some of the boredom.
I tested this approach yesterday of standing 50%, walking 25%, and sitting 25% while switching environments when passing from one working block (~2hrs) to the other and it did wonders! I felt more productive and got things done faster. I'll keep using it to see if it helps me on the long term
It's amazing and satisfying to see a professional like you with a good edited video rather than a random guy who just read few books about productivity. Thank you
I intuitively do this lol. Thought I was just different. Can't work in one environment for too long. I'm able to maintain flow when I move. I have three offices: home, cafes and company location. It's awesome. I'm glad my boss let me wander bc this is how I get things done. 😊
Why I did not watch this Video: It says "A small Trick" but its f-ing 16 minutes long. If this was like 7-8 Minutes I wouldve watched it. This is just excessive and unneccessary.
The amount of knowledge shared in this 15 minutes is tremendous. Your videos changed my life entirely. Tried the things you mentioned, and it DOES work. Although I don't have fancy equipment etc, even moving to the roof and doing some parts of the job on the roof while moving is a game changer. Thank you.
As someone who did this cuz it felt good and got alot of weird looks from coworkers, it works. Also increases your indifferent to opinions, not to mention you just feel overall better.
1. Stand while working- 50% of the time, walk- 25% of the time, 25% of sitting 2. perceived effort decreases with changing places, perceived exertion decreases with changing positions 3. 3 different working environments

same question :( it takes me around 3-7 hours to finish one chapter in physics. it’s so hard i feel so burnt out that i don’t study anything else. and i don’t end up getting full marks in physics as well. this video is much needed.
I’ve created 2 work spaces in my new room. One is a floor desk for writing fantasy - sitting cross-legged on the floor to write suits me well. My other space is for music/video production. It’s decorated very wonderfully with LED lights, etc. Spicing it up really inspires and re-invigorates me and activates the flow state.
me2, this channel has been life changing for me, and I say these things lightly. (he confirms things I knew, but vaguely, and didn't act with intent on it, for example that walking is good for work/novel stimuli/improved thinking etc.)

But Walking and working isn't it multitasking and also contradicts your point about doing one thing at a time. Also, it contradicts your example explaining that you can't multitask even basic thing like you have to stop walking to send a text message.
Change place and change position, and you cheat fatigue!! This is a new one for me. So true. I’m IN LOVE with your videos. Thank you so much for putting out these incredible INSIGHTS ♥️♥️
Oh wow, I’ve just only really realized why I get into the flow so easily sometimes and other times not at all. It’s just the difference between standing and sitting. I love you, man!
Interesting thing about your videos that I've noticed. Almost every time, the first 5 minutes feel like a wasted 5 minutes, but just before I click next, you actually get into something good, and I end up hooked and end up liking and saving the video.
At the moment I have a nice RGB setup for my office. I wonder if putting on auto changes for the scene every couple hours or so will trick the brain into thinking “something’s changed”. Any input?
Watching your videos on repeat like I'm attending lectures again. Learning so much and making these improvements as fast as I can. Thank you so much for sharing this.
I noticed this a few days ago. I was slogging away and felt so tired. I happened to change my environment and suddenly it was easier to focus again. Thanks for the vid!

One of the most amazing things I learnt from this video was that your brain resets the effort counter once you change the place you are working in.
Excellent!
So I will be working on my bed desk and my table desk 2-2 hours for 4 hours. This way I could do 8 hours in 2 sittings
2 steps
1 setup up your main working environment
Basic:
- sitting / max 2 hours
- standing / 5/10 min, per 30 min of sitting
- walking
Flow state improvements:
stand 50% of the time
walk 25% of the time
Sitting 25% of the time
2. setup three additional working environments
change environment will improve your productivity
Deep work block of multiple hours (2/3 hours)
A new event begun at every environment like a sprint
Main office
couch
Coffee shop

Switch environments and move while working
1. Set up your main WORKING ENVIRONMENT (morning my home: sitting+standing+walking)

Mindset: Sitting is not synonymous with working - Your environment shapes your stamina.
This is terrible if you're anticipating the flow state. It won't come. Lol

1. Optimize your environment to sharpen stamina and dopamine

3. Shifting environments can help regain focus (trick your brain to think you worked less time)

How can anyone stand and work that long is beyond me
Well, I do it, 12 to 13 hours a day. Sometimes more

bro this guy is so underrated
Tried standing desks, failed miserably. Turned out to be completely counterproductive. Standing takes too much energy, preventing me from focusing. I can do only the most basic clerical tasks while standing, those that don't require any mental effort, like entering data. Anything that requires a mental or creative effort - just forget it. Standing distracts too much, siphoning energy from those activities. In order to do anything intellectual or creative, I've got to plant myself comfortably on my couch, preferably without moving at all in order to channel all the available energy to my brain 🤷♀️

Oh wow, I’ve just only really realized why I get into the flow so easily sometimes and other times not at all. It’s just the difference between standing and sitting. I love you, man!
Thanks for watching!
I sit if i work, i walk if i think.
Most of the time iam walking and sit if i need to work
When I want to stay in the flow all day, I wear my lucky pink hat
Interesting thing about your videos that I've noticed. Almost every time, the first 5 minutes feel like a wasted 5 minutes, but just before I click next, you actually get into something good, and I end up hooked and end up liking and saving the video.
Hey Rian, I recently discovered your videos and i have been really interested. Can you make some videos on how athletes can optimize the flow state?
Very valuable pointers. Thanks
Does novelty shape your physical or mental stamina.
30MIN SIT 30 MIN STAND ITS SOOO GOOD I CANT EVEN TELL I'M WORKING
I'm huge fan of your work, Rian! Would love to connect.
I appreciate your support and viewership!
Most welcome.
Treadmill desk suggestions? I believe this would be extremely beneficial to my work but I want to find the perfect one!
Thank you for watching!
