thats soo true the hard part is applying it the right way its like ur saying what it is but u dont know how to do it in a way make it flexible or like strategize with it the way u explain it is so intuitive
What i learned with flow that our subconscious mind probably control for our over-all decision even before you take decision...this is tremendous to understand...on this flow topic...thanx rian keep that good work...
I've been on the "friction reduction" mission this year. It started in my kitchen, of all places, with constantly having to "move this thing to get to that thing to cook the thing," every time I wanted to cook the simplest meal. It's gradual, because sometimes you get so used to the constant "toe stub" you just assume that's how it's got to be. But as I identify those spots - whether it's decluttering or putting organization tools in place to make staying on top of things easier - my aim is by the end of this year to have created a home conducive to work work and creative work without having to re-prep my spaces every time.
I realized the other day on mushrooms that the reason for my outbursts of frustration is because of all the cumulative points of friction set up throughout my day. And the fix is to take care of each one. This video was the perfect follow up.
Great insights about friction! Reducing systematic friction for me has been largely about dealing with things in the past, having processed and put away, so no emotions rise to create friction through triggers. Having dealt with everything up to the current moment leaves me with full ability to focus on the task or day in front of me.
thank you so much rian yours are the only video on youtube which really help me improve and and absolutely practical in real life please keep this up and thank for your help
Hey Rian! Thank you. Great work. You have an amazing ability for defining the problem, explaining it clearly and then solving for it in an engaging and entertaining way. Keep up the good work and thank you again, truly appreciate you for the value you’re providing us.
Great video as always! A lot of other creators always "reuse" their content in a different way. But, you always have a totally different advice every single video, thank you for that. Could you make a video about night routine as well? It doesn't seem to be talked about much, or at least, not as much as a morning routine. (which you made and it was great as well). Thank you!
I'm going through this exactly rn, like my coworkers all around talk to the phone some listening to music. I'm like tf you guys even really focusing. It's alot different and better if I'm alone in my house. I focus and get things done better when there's no distraction
This is a wonderful strategy and the book atomic habits explained it very well. The less friction you pre designed into a task then that task is more likely to accomplish and vice versa.
I found this video very interesting because I did the removal aspect about a week ago. I made seperate channel playlists for videos I've intended to watch, but could never find the time to do so, including this channel.
you literally have the best self helping videos out there i can easily see you getting more sucessful in some time. More power to you and please upload videos more consistenly. Love you a lot.❣
Jocko taught me to grunt the word "good" at distractions and then crush the task anyways. dog sh!t in the floor and youre late for work? GOOD. now you know how to get ready faster. lmao
Excellent. I read FLOW when it first came out and it is one of my ten most influential books. I could do without all the sound fx in the videos, I find them distracting. I really wish school districts would latch onto this concept rather than all the CRAP taught at professional developments. I am a little torn about the video on less hours for more productivity. I want to be working on skills all the time as a music producer - Da Vinci is my model, it seems he worked more than 3-6 hours a day. Thoughts?
Rian, great video and love your content. Had a question- what about our internal friction? When we don't feel like doing the work. When everything is set up but there seems to be this resistance from within that stops you from going forward. Also, what are your thoughts on animedoro study technique? Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!!
Rian would advise against animedoro. Your breaks must be more boring than your work so that your dopamine hit from your work is higher, prompting you to get back to work.
Hey Rian. Sometimes, I open UA-cam, but can't decide what to watch. My brain forces me to open UA-cam and learn something new, and this keeps me into a delusional of learning something new, but when I open, I can't decide what to watch. How and why does this happen and how to fix it. Thanks Adi
Awesome videos. Thanks for the great info. The music volume on this one is too high and makes it hard to concentrate on what you are saying. I suppose a compression is in use on the music track, but the threshold is not enough.
Everything about being better comes back to that book. What James clear did in that book was take all the habit information out there and make it simple and easy to hear and implement. But again and again, consistency is the hardest part of being better.
What do people who can apply this advice even do everyday for a job? In my job as a corporate IT low level manager there is literally nothing but friction all day long from bosses, useless administrative demands that result in little more than someone else checking a box, fire drills to deal with mostly related to politics as everyone scrambles to give the impression they know what’s going on to someone else… I’m jealous of this lifestyle (work style?) I see all over UA-cam on productivity videos where people seem to be in control of their own lives enough to even decide what they will do with their day and how. Most often it seems their primary job is making UA-cam videos about productivity. I like and appreciate the research, info, tips, and ideas but….
Hey rian, could you do a video on switching tasks especially if they are unrated to each each other, like from reading to trading to studying for an exam. please.
Can you explain the logic behind the extremely over the top dopeamine spiking editing in every video? I thought we were trying to bring peoples base level down, not up
I think it suits his targeted audience which is overstimulated dopamine people, and making video like that help to get our attention. For example, I wouldnt finish his first video if he he didnt use this style of editing
Hey Rian I just wanted to know that I am a student and most of my work involves doing practice questions which involve a lot of thinking which generally is above 4% of my skill set so is it still horrible that I can be able to access flow state
@@riandoris I am able to get a max 6.5 hour sleep daily and I try to get power naps in between tasks during my day but I try everyday to get my tasks done so that I can get some quality sleep.
One time a volcano erupted when I was tring to concentrate. I had to stop everything and call the vet to make sure my dog was O.K.. Then I had to mail his payment before lava destroyed my mailbox. I was still looking for a stamp when lava came rushing through the air vents and I had to jump onto the bed. Three years later, everything was back to normal, but by that time I had lost my train of thought.
But you don’t develop self discipline here which tends to make you base very thing on motivation which is not something you want as it makes you will power weaker
Can you please make videos without the overly dramatic music and sounds . or release ones without editing . I love your content , its one of a kind . But I cant listen to it for any longer than 30 seconds . Maybe I'm somewhat ADHD or autistic , idk . But I would love to know if anyone else has the same feelings ? After I listen to these vids , I need to do a 10 min silence meditation to make my mind calm again 😟
Same. Watched two videos thinking they just might be a liiiiitle overedited. To my taste, too many transitions, sounds, popping letters, images, etc. 😅 It's actually funny commenting about being distracted by too many sparkling things on a video about trying to avoid distractions/frictions.
