I wish I could have heard her live. She lived in MN, where I lived and was from my generation. Hard to believe she is gone. This year is the 10th Anniversary of her Yahrzeit. z"l
This is a fascinating and very rare clip of Debbie! The other two videos of her uploaded on this account are with Debbie as most of us knew her, making us laugh with her witty and spontaneous sense of humor and Debbie touching our souls with her powerful Save a Life. This however, is a symbol of how much Debbie was inspired by Peter, Paul, and Mary and how she inspired Peter Yarrow in return. As a lifelong fan of both Debbie Friedman and PP&M, this is very cool hearing Debbie sing Day is Done!!!
How lucky am I to say that as I'm about to turn 30 in two days, I have seen Debbie Friedman, Raffi Cavoukian (Raffi, yes that Raffi of Baby Beluga fame), Peter Yarrow, and Noel Paul Stookey ALL live in concert in my lifetime even as Peter , Paul, and Raffi (see what I did there, PP&R) begin to age and sadly Mary and Debbie are no longer with us, but still! This lifelong folk music fan is filled with naches that I've actually sang and met with my musical inspirations and influences, but more importantly, a bunch of musical icons!
Lucky you! :) I remember you from comments on a Raffi video. Feel free to look me up on Facebook. I am a folk and children's music fanatic and am a music teacher.
@ Amy Rosen Debbie was long inspired by Peter, Paul, and Mary when she started her career and taught many PP&M songs as a songleader at many URJ summer camps! My guess is through a combination of his commitment to Judaism and his longtime friendship with Rabbi Elliot Kleinman who once arranged to meet with Mary Travers who had thoughts of converting to Judaism (she never did), that's how Peter became acquainted with Debbie Friedman. Plus, he wrote Light One Candle and Mary sang Dodi Li to refugee Refusnik Jews in the former Soviet Union while Debbie once sold out Carnegie Hall TWICE, a first for a religious entertainer! Being a 30 year old millenial fan of PP&M and Debbie and having their music be my childhood and the soundtrack of my life, I still get chills every time I watch this performance of both of them not only sharing a stage together, but her singing the last verse of his song after he listens to her perform Save a Life. The moment the student surpasses the teacher and is passed the baton from the teacher is always so touching. Sadly though, we know the teacher outlived the student. However, Peter paid Debbie the highest possible compliment after she passed only 2 very short years after Mary did, and called Debbie Friedman the Mary Travers of the American Jewish music world! He would also sing Mi Shebeirach on a Debbie Friedman tribute album released shortly after her death. When was the last time you heard Peter Yarrow cover a Debbie Friedman song and Debbie Friedman cover a Peter, Paul, and Mary song?! Yes, it's that much more awesome that these are two Jews! But needless to say, these are two American folk music legends sharing a stage and singing together! They are my heroes and I can't watch this even once without tearing up! Too bad I never got to hear Debbie sing Puff The Magic Dragon and Peter, Paul, and Mary cover Debbie's Thanksgiving song!
@@juliewattfaqir5990 Well I'll be singing along to Puff live tonight in about five hours I'll be attending my first TRUE Peter, Paul, (and Mary) concert as well as tomorrow night! Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey TOGETHER for TWO shows at the Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley!
This is truly beautiful and heartfelt, and I do not wish to politicize this, but maybe some of you could get up the strength to speak up for the poor Palestinian children in Gaza and the Occupied Territories who have suffered at the hands of the Israeli Air Force and other shameful acts committed by Israel over the last few years. My Jewish brethren in the U.S. need to speak up! Harry Katz
I think you not only politicized it, you got it all wrong. Quit blaming Israel for Palestinians refusal to live as peaceful neighbors. Want to help Palestinians? Liberate them from oppression of Hamas, Fatah, Hezzbollah.

I remember learning this song in Hebrew School the year Debbie Friedman was our "artist in residence."

I didn't know Peter Yarrow appeared at a bicentennial, much less that he shared a stage with Debbie Friedman. Wow! Powerful!
