In the 1970-1971 school year, Debbie was the "artist in residence" at my synagogue, Temple Emanu-el in Willingboro, New Jersey. At first she led us in singing the kinds of stuff she taught kids in Jewish summer camp. She used to play a 12-string guitar ("If one string breaks, I still have eleven"). She taught the 8th graders, but she also taught music to us 7th graders. One day she came in with a song she'd written. It was a setting for the English translation of the V'ahavta prayer. To say we glommed onto it is an understatement. Once we had the song down, she started teaching us harmony parts. If you've seen interviews of her, you know that this is when she started her long career of writing Jewish liturgical music. I still feel special to have been one of the first people to hear and learn her first song.
Memories of Debbie? She was my early 1970's Sunday school music teacher. She taught us her early compositions. Who knew she would go on to become internationally recognized and loved!?
Many thanks for sharing this wonderful concert with people around the world. The music of Debbie Friedman and the incredibly gifted singers performing today lift our spirits and provide us with a feeling of connection to our Jewish community. 👏👏
Beautiful!! I like the Ukrinian chazzanit especially, looking humble and with a powerful voice! . the white-haired chazzanit looked more as if she came straight out of Mitzrayim, with all her glittering gold.
An amazing production and event. Thank you, Azi! I had the privilege of meeting and seeing Debbie (Z"L) as a teenager at a BBYO Leadership Conference and her "ruach" and style has stayed with me for nearly 50 years. She still touches the nefesh of every person who hears her. Thank you, Debbie!
MY RABBI HUSBAND AND I TOOK A SEMINAR ON HOW TO HELP BEREAVED AND TOTALLY BONDED WITH DEBBIE. SUCH A GOOD MOVING WOMAN. MAY HER MEMORY BE AS A BLESSING 🙌 🙏. AMEN 🙏
Wow!! Reminded me that I was so fortunate to sing with her late nights at CAJE conferences. We had so much fun and she taught many new pieces during her choral group then too. What A Beautiful person!!!!!
The most enjoyable concert and tribute to Debbie Friedman. Thank you all for honoring her, and entertaining thousands at the same time. This concert would be a sensational CD to raise money for Ukraine or a charity of your choice.
Hearing this brings me back to my summer camp days where Debbie was a song leader each year. She was inspirational, engaging and "alive" whenever she picked up her guitar to sing.
Thank you for putting this beautiful concert on you tube. I love listening to the music of Debbie Friedman, especially when its sung by Azi Schartz, Bat Ella and talented cantors. Gail Davis in England.
Baruch Ha'shem, for this wonderful music, so UPLIFTING! Amen! Ha'Shem, ha Kadosh BARUCH HU! As it says in Tehillim, Ha'Shem dwells in the PRAISES OF HIS PEOPLE! Very professional, very beautiful. I love playing various Jewish songs on the piano or my keyboard. I recently played an antique piano in none other than Lake McDonald Lodge in Glacier National Park here in NW Montana. I played for tourists around the world in the hotel lobby. And just in case there were any Jews or Israelis present in the lobby, I made sure to play JERUSALEM THE GOLDEN, and Ha'Tikvah, to honor Jewish visitors as well. And I am not even Jewish in background! But I DO have One special Jew in my life, always. But my life has always enjoyed Jewish friends and people throughout the years. LOVE is a beautiful thing! LOVE THIS MUSIC! Ha'Shem BLESS the Jewish community (and everybody else) in NYC at this difficult time, with the terrible smoke problem due to Canadian forest fires. Praying for the Jewish communities and my friends in Borough Park and beyond, to be protected from this tragic health hazard. Park Avenue Synagogue??? My Jewish Doctor, Dr. Isaac N. Kugelmass, was a Park Avenue physician, who treated me for 5 years, keeping me alive until another Jew of note came into my life, to heal me and restore me completely, Baruch Ha'Shem. I finaly discovered Who MY Mashiach truly was, following my medically unexplainable miracle of divine HEALING following much prayer and coming to Him for my true redemption. I wish the same miracle of grace and revelation for all precious Jews EVERYWHERE. You WIN or LOSE by the mashiach you choose! SO many false, but only one TRUE MASHIACH! Shalom, mishpochah and dear ones and be blessed always, b'shem Yeshua Ha'Mashiach! -Pamela Rae

I know the world can't destroy the Jewish people, but it saddens me so much that it tries again and again. My soul cries.
