I agree with you on this song, but have to add "First time ever I saw your face" by Ewan MacColl. The two most beautiful songs written in our time (I am 74).
About 10 years I was walking to meet my wife and her friend as we were going to a PP & M concert...As I was walking forward much to my surprise Mr Stookey was walking by himself in my direction...I was awestruck and blurted out "You have to do The Wedding Song" He smiled an said he did not know what songs they were going to perform that night. I smiled and walked away mesmiriized...After the 3 did about a 45 minute set and went inside for a break...After about 10 minutes Paul came out solo and made an announcement...He stated that as he was walking to the show a "fan" requested this song....I stood up immediately and balled my eyes out as he proceeded to sing this song....I am quite sure Mr Stookey did this as a favor. God Bless him forever...One of the greatest songs of all time...up there with Hey Jude
This story made me so happy that the singer heard your plea to sing the song, and then did it, for you-but for every other heart in that concert too. Thank you for sharing this.
It was the song at our Wedding in 82. Still brings tears to my eyes. Paul never realized how much it would be used as inspiration for others. Thank you Paul, Thank you God!
The first time I heard it it just blew me aw ay oh how well written and sung it's timel ess and also meaningful lyrics I listen to music like this in today's world 2023 bec ause the music they make now is awful.
I remember when this song was first released. I was so deeply touched and as I listened again here after many years it gave me the chills. Paul was a brilliant song writer with such depth and soul. Thank you Paul for all you have given us ❤
"There Is Love" was sung at our wedding on May 31, 1980. Unfortunately M.S. took my wife away 8 years ago in March, 2007. Whenever I hear this, it is a rough fight not to cry, I don't win that fight very often. This song that Noel has given to the world I can't put into words. All I can say is, "Thank you Noel for the memories this song returns to me". Kelly and I had a fantastic 27 years together.
Craig Hickman Man, so sorry for your loss. In a perfect world, everyone would live to be 100 (still healthy) and married couples would all celebrate 70 or 75 years together. It's good to hear you did have 27 wonderful years together .... may all the good memories of your wife sustain you until the time comes when you both are reunited ....
Craig Hickman Your post brought me to tears. I am so very sorry you lost your Kelly so early. My husband and I were married in 1976, when this song was recorded by The Captain and Tenille. We are now married 38 years. Every day is a gift. Thank you for reminding me of that.
+Rick Biggs Don't be sorry. Instead be happy for Kel because she endured the last 2-3 years of her life with essentially no quality of life. She's free of all of the constraints that damnable illness put on her. Kel is free, that's what counts.
Even though he has probably sang this song many times, he sings it like he has just written a beautiful song and that he cant wait to share it with the world. His facial expressions and the intent behind his eyes really convey that this is a very special song.
I've heard him say that when he wrote the song, he hadn't been a Christian for long and the words were actually written, "I am now to be among you and the calling of your hearts...."
41 years ago (1981) my husband and I got married. This was the song that was played at our wedding in the church. We had a singer and he played the guitar , and he did a fantastic job. Every time I hear the song I think of that wonderful day. We're still together by the way!
My husband and I were married in 1978 and my brother-in-law sang this at our wedding. He sang so beautifully, it was one of my sweetest memories of that day.
I’m 79 and grew up a big Peter, Paul and Mary fan. I saw them twice in concert. This solo by Paul, so timeless, always brings the tears, especially now coming up on the 15th anniversary of my husband’s death in 3 days.
As an atheist I can honestly say....this is simply one of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS ever written! I know it's more of a religious wedding song, but.....yeah, no words.
I am looking for the comic monologue he gives just before this song. About magazines, and trying to bluff when someone asks him a question when he brain was over at the punch bowl. Do you know of a video of that part? So funny!
@@kathyoverton998 Wow, I definitely remember that! My brain was at the punchbowl so I say something clever like... perhaps if you rephrased, I could answer more fully. Reply - So how o-- what are the ages of your children? It's been years since I thought of that... thanks for reminding me!
I'm a "non-believer," not at all religious (spiritually I'm Taoist). That said, this song is one of the most stunningly beautiful I've heard. God is love; Love is God.
Some things about this song that may help to bring some understanding and light to this discussion This song, "There is Love" the Wedding Song was written by Noel Paul Stookey for his friend, co-band member of "Peter, Paul and Mary" for the wedding of Peter Yarrow. Noel was a Christian, a follower and believer of Jesus Christ, Peter was not. Noel wrote the song from the perspective of his faith. It is filled with quotes and references from the Bible. In the song, Noel repeats words Jesus spoke as recorded in the Bible by His followers. Twice in the song, Noel writes " whenever two are more are you are gathered in His name " This is from Matthew 18:20 where Jesus said, "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them' Noel, begins the song with - "He is now to be among you..." This is a reference to the God that Joel follows. The God of the Bible. He speaks of a man leaving his mother and a woman leaving her home. and of two becoming one. This is from the teachings about marriage in the Bible. Noel writes - " as it was in the beginning..." He is referring to the marriage of Adam and Eve as recorded in the Bible. Noel writes that "woman takes her life from man'. This is from the record in the Bible that man was made first by God and then Eve was made from a part of man. Noel also writes in the song "Do you believe in something that you've never seen before?" This is from the perspective of his Christian faith of believing in the God of the Bible where it says that "God is Love." This information is openly available and can be confirmed by searching the internet. Thank you.
This song came out well before I was born but this is the song from my parents wedding in 1979. Everytime I hear this song I get misty. So beautiful. If I ever get married this will be my wedding song too.
Same here! My mom's parents were in the choir, who sang this song at their wedding. The first time a secular song was ever sung in that church. It's beautiful. I'm now in choir, and would like the same for my wedding.....someday.
I've noticed all the comments about this song being played at so many weddings, and I'd like to add it was played at our wedding too. April 26, 1986. I have to think that Noel Paul is very proud that people love his song so much. 😃
My maid of honor 's dad and sister played this at my wedding. it was beautiful. they practiced for weeks to get it right. can never thank them enough for giving this song to us on our special day.
This is a wonderful song. It evokes feelings with every note and lyric. Pristine and full of power. It is an eternal and everlasting testament to love.
Mine was 23 years ago. My ex didn't want to be married. 5 years later and we both are able to have a decent relationship. I had this song at my wedding too. So beautiful, I believe this song, The way we were, and We've only just begun I think are the most beautiful songs ever.
Have played this song at a few weddings just me and my guitar and each time i felt an anointing such a powerful song musically and lyrically. Masterfully Paul thank you and the Lord✌🙏
Kathy Bordenkircher. This song was played at our wedding on 6/18/90. Next month will be our 28th Wedding Anniversary. Having God in our marriage has helped us through the difficult times and has made the wonderful times even better. I love this song and I always will. It is wonderful being married to your best friend. I love you Dale & I always will.
This song hasn't aged a day in the 35 or so years I've known it. To me it's virtual musical bliss! Watching Noel/Paul enjoying himself as he plays that beautiful 12 string, with no other musical accompaniment, is a vision of pure talent! 😍😍
I grew up with a couple of brothers that sang and played folk music. When Peter, Paul, and Mary came along, that was it for all of us. This song was "it" for me... Thank you, and GOD Bless you, for bringing it home to me today!
Sang this at a wedding in the 80's. The bride and groom had no idea what song they wanted and did not know this when I suggested it, but they liked the words. Fortunately they are still married ❤
So many happy memories of this song. My late husband, a musician and singer, sang this to me at our wedding many years ago. Such a beautiful song - brings tears to my eyes.
"Wedding Song" and Carpenter's "We've only just begun" are my two favorite wedding songs. Both are pure and simple, very contemplative in nature. Always wanted to have them sung at my wedding, but alas, never found the right girl.
I will be singing this song at one of my students weddings in Seoul, South Korea on December 2nd. Will be playing it on my Larivée 12 string. I hope that I get through it without crying. She was one of my favorite teaching assistants at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. I seldom felt such joy as when I received a message from her asking me to sing at her wedding. I only hope that this leads to more requests in the future.
I believe Paul Stookey was truly "Divinely Inspired" in writing this song for his friend, Peter...(So admirable to have 'all proceeds going to Charitable donations, since 1971) ....(Peter, Paul, & Mary songs will last forever....❤) !!!!!
Some dear friends sang this song at our wedding in June 1973, 47+ years ago. It always brings a wonderful memory when I hear it. My wife has been battling cancer for 22 years and, sadly, it looks like her fight will be ending later this year. What a treasure this song is for us. I wouldn’t trade this life for anything.
I can't help but just bawl when I hear this. He is so full of love. He is making sure everyone in the audience feels it. He looks out at all the people in different parts of the concert hall. The fact that he gave this song to public domain speaks more about him than anything else.
I'll love this song as long as I can hear it played. My wife and I had this at our wedding 48 years ago, loved it, and then love it still. The perfect wedding song from a near perfect singer !!!
You’re not going to believe me but Peter Paul and Mary popped into my head I was just thinking it didn’t know they existed I thought it had something to do with the Bible. So I searched google and they popped up. So I thought ok they have a message for me, started listening to their songs and they move me blowing in the wind, early morning rain, 500 miles. It’s like they have this strong inner knowing, the answer is and forever will be love. This song especially I’m drawn to like a moth to the flame. He is radiating love onto everyone so desperately longing for it to be whole complete one again. Soon, soon, soon. Love you all. 💗

Thank you Paul for all you have given us ❤
One of the greatest songs ever!
God bless you.
+djjim01 Thank you for your kind words. The memories of Kel do sustain me and comfort me. Yes, someday we will be reunited.
Back when there was real music. Not the crap you hear generated today....
I thought the same thing. He is joyful in sharing this song with us!
He wrote this song as a gift to his bandmate, his brother. It has become his gift to the world. One of the purest songs I've ever heard.
I've heard him say that when he wrote the song, he hadn't been a Christian for long and the words were actually written, "I am now to be among you and the calling of your hearts...."
@@CFGossettAbbasHealingArts yeah, if you look for it, I think there is a version on UA-cam with him singing the original words.
Loving us the answer. God bless you all. And good health and fortune for 2022.
Still the most beautiful and spiritual wedding song ever.
Sue Camaione Amen
One of my favorites. Exquisitely beautiful. A great man and talent.
Absolutely
Up there with Ave Maria.

I can’t get enough of this song.
31 years this September my wife and I will be married. This was our wedding song. Thank you to Peter, Paul and Mary for this wonderful song
Ours also, 44 years ago. and we still love each other
Are you still married in 2023?
41 years ago (1981) my husband and I got married. This was the song that was played at our wedding in the church. We had a singer and he played the guitar
, and he did a fantastic job. Every time I hear the song I think of that wonderful day. We're still together by the way!
By coincidence, when me and my bride, Chris, were driving home from the wedding ceremony, this song played on the radio. We were touched.
Beautiful.
Played it at my wedding, May 25, 1975. This just came to me this afternoon. May 22, 2024. Love it.
We had this at our wedding, May 31, 1980.
1/2/1975, my wedding song too. Just remembered it…
1982, still love that guy today...where ever he is lol one day we meet again..
I can’t help but see the joy of His Holy Spirit in Paul’s eyes as he performs this timeless, 🕊Inspired wonder.
Continued Blessings Paul. ♥️
❤❤❤❤
As an atheist I can honestly say....this is simply one of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS ever written! I know it's more of a religious wedding song, but.....yeah, no words.
I don't think religion has any corner on love.
Thank you .....words are naught necessary with this song thank you forsaying
@@bethbrittenbach3301 then who’s the giving for?
Mark, God is Love. Your Creator made you and loves you very much. "Seek and you will find."
These lyrics are open-ended and poetic enough you can still find your own meaning no matter your worldview and belief. Extraordinarily beautiful song.
One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard!
He doesn't just sing he speaks to your soul
My husband and I walked down the aisle to this song ...I will never forget it.
I produced and directed the Peter, Paul & Mary 25th Anniversary Concert. It was a great experience!
Thank you.....
Thank you
Thank you!!
The sound of his guitar is absolutely sublime.
I'm a "non-believer," not at all religious (spiritually I'm Taoist). That said, this song is one of the most stunningly beautiful I've heard. God is love; Love is God.
I wrote a poem, to the woman that I have loved since 1967, the title of which was "Life is Love; Love is Life."
" I will DRAW all men to me " - Jesus
The Love you feel in the song
is Him drawing you.
Come closer.
I wrote nothing about the Bible. Jesus didn't write anything that we know of. What's your point?
Some things about this song that may help to bring some
understanding and light to this discussion
This song, "There is Love" the Wedding Song was written by
Noel Paul Stookey for his friend, co-band member of "Peter, Paul and Mary" for the wedding of Peter Yarrow.
Noel was a Christian, a follower and believer of Jesus Christ,
Peter was not.
Noel wrote the song from the perspective of his faith. It is filled with
quotes and references from the Bible.
In the song, Noel repeats words Jesus spoke as recorded in the Bible by His followers.
Twice in the song, Noel writes
" whenever two are more are you are gathered in His name "
This is from Matthew 18:20 where Jesus said,
"For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them'
Noel, begins the song with - "He is now to be among you..."
This is a reference to the God that Joel follows. The God of the Bible.
He speaks of a man leaving his mother and a woman leaving her home.
and of two becoming one. This is from the teachings about marriage in the Bible.
Noel writes - " as it was in the beginning..."
He is referring to the marriage of Adam and Eve as recorded in the Bible.
Noel writes that "woman takes her life from man'.
This is from the record in the Bible that man was made first by God
and then Eve was made from a part of man.
Noel also writes in the song
"Do you believe in something that you've never seen before?"
This is from the perspective of his Christian faith of believing in the God of the Bible where it says that "God is Love."
This information is openly available and can be confirmed by searching the internet. Thank you.
If that's what you believe, we have no argument.
Played at our wedding September 1986. Still makes me happy cry. Love him even more than I did then💖
This song came out well before I was born but this is the song from my parents wedding in 1979.
I agree ray
Hope you found him🙏 and the song has been played.
I just saw that I commented on this song 7 years ago. I will be getting married next month and yes, this will be our song ❤️
Are you married yet, Julie? Was this your song? Did it still resonate? It does for me, for my daughter's wedding.
Reliably bringing us the happy tears for 50 years.
This song was sung at our wedding in 1979. It's still "Our Song" and always will be. 42 years and counting!
A masterpiece caught forever in time for us to view. Gifted. Sublime.
I've noticed all the comments about this song being played at so many weddings, and I'd like to add it was played at our wedding too. April 26, 1986. I have to think that Noel Paul is very proud that people love his song so much. 😃
We had it played at our wedding too - July 31, 1987. A tornado hit a neighbouring city that day, unbeknownst to us. Luckily it wasn’t an omen. Lol
Tomorrow is our 48th anniversary! We had friends play this song at our wedding!! So 3:33 beautiful and pertinent to today as it was then.
Was played at our wedding 50 years ago ! Lovey . Humbling
My maid of honor 's dad and sister played this at my wedding. it was beautiful. they practiced for weeks to get it right. can never thank them enough for giving this song to us on our special day.
Me, I sang it to my on 25th anniversary, forever a great prayer
God what a beautiful song. Never heard it before. Brings me tears.
Played at our wedding 43 years ago on 9/12/81 ❤
This is a wonderful song. It evokes feelings with every note and lyric. Pristine and full of power. It is an eternal and everlasting testament to love.
This was sang at my wedding. 1974. So beautiful!!
My wedding song 35 years ago marriage didn’t last but this song sure did
Mine was 23 years ago. My ex didn't want to be married. 5 years later and we both are able to have a decent relationship. I had this song at my wedding too. So beautiful, I believe this song, The way we were, and We've only just begun I think are the most beautiful songs ever.
Our daughter in law sang this at our 25th wedding vow renewal….so beautiful & appropriate x
A very beautiful song - even more so when my bride sang it to me on our wedding day... nearly 50 years ago
I could not imagine a better song for celebrating life, friendship, and spirituality.
Have played this song at a few weddings just me and my guitar and each time i felt an anointing such a powerful song musically and lyrically. Masterfully Paul thank you and the Lord✌🙏
My cousin sang this at my wedding in 1995. Such a beautiful song!
Unfortunately they don't make songs like this anymore. Beautiful.
Don't know why I'm balling while hearing this song. Very emotional.
One of my all-time favorites. Our Pastor sang it at our wedding.
I had forgotten how much I love this song until it came around in my random music mix this morning.
I walked down the isle to this song June 21,1997 .... we’ll be married 22 yrs tomorrow 🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻♥️ 🙏🏻There is love 🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻

So beautiful. I'll never forget the first time I heard it in 1978. It was on the radio in my car. And I just had to find and buy that song!!!
He owns this song in every way. Love it now and always have.......Beautiful.....
Happy anniversary to you and Dale ours is 22 yrars

Kathy Bordenkircher. Thank you Mr. Douglas. Congratulations to you and your wife on 22 years. May God bless you both with may more years.
This song hasn't aged a day in the 35 or so years I've known it. To me it's virtual musical bliss! Watching Noel/Paul enjoying himself as he plays that beautiful 12 string, with no other musical accompaniment, is a vision of pure talent! 😍😍
I have sung this for countless weddings, still brings chills to me. There is Love.....
I am 72 years old and this is a beautiful song
I grew up with a couple of brothers that sang and played folk music. When Peter, Paul, and Mary came along, that was it for all of us.
This song was "it" for me...
Thank you, and GOD Bless you,
for bringing it home to me today!
Far North Weaver My wife picked this for one of the songs in our wedding back in 1975. Five days ago (9/20/14) was our 39th anniversary :-)

Wonderful!!
Sang this at a wedding in the 80's. The bride and groom had no idea what song they wanted and did not know this when I suggested it, but they liked the words. Fortunately they are still married ❤
Fills a hole in our hearts ... . I believe Stookey's story. The song is the sound of an answered prayer.
Yeah.
these are the two songs sung at our wedding in 1971. beautiful memories
Married for 50 years wish I had known this song! Gives me chills!❤️❤️
What a wonderful song...l have a privilege of singing this song in one of the church's wedding celebrations...
It would be so neat to have these songs make a comeback
Sang at wedding when I married my beautiful best friend. Getting close to our 24th anniversary. I love you Jodi
We need love and compassion, and strength, more than ever now.
Saw Peter and Paul in Tarrytown earlier this year - wonderful.
It was played at my wedding too and was lovely. So many wonderful memories!
