  • V 1.0 Reloading the Shred-ER Cartridges by Bug-A-Salt. Turns out we can reload them.
    Skip to V4.0 video if you want to skip all of the trial and error we all went through to get an easy clean factory looking load.
    In this video I reload the Shred-ER Cartridges using around easily available, water soluble glue, for easy post shooting cleanup and future reloading. This video is intended more as a demonstration of reloading this cartridge. Other adhesives and papers may work better. I chose to go with inexpensive, easily attainable items as one of the reasons to reload these cartridges would be to save money over the factory available cartridges. Also, by using water soluble glue (school glues) it makes for easy fast clean up, to re-use cartridges over and over.

    I figured it out. Used a 1.25 hole puncher in tissue paper. This will cover the entire cylinder head perfectly. I purchased a 5/8 leather whole puncher to knock out the middle part of my circle cutout which gives me as close and clean as the manufacturer cutout as you can get. I use a glue stick and it’s clean, fast, and efficient.

      Nice work! That is awesome, sounds fast, easy and clean. This is what I hoped for, someone seeing all of the mistakes or labor and figure out a better way without having to work through all of the steps that I did. If I actually get around to reloading any more I definitely do it this way, I still have a ton of factory cartridges that I had bought early on when I started testing the shredder.

      @@justanotheravgjoe1314 your videos definitely helped me out and started me on this path. I bought extra cartridges what I plan on doing is only reloading when I have exhausted all my ammo. I’ll put them in a sink with warm soapy water and let it sit for a bit to soften the material, easy cleanup. I’ll make my cutouts ahead of time so it’s as easy as glueing them and filling with salt. If you do a lot at once you will begin seeing savings.

    I just feed tissue through a xyron sticker maker then stick that to both sides. No muss, no fuss. Then I use a metal chopstick to burnish the edge so it cuts the tissue perfectly. You can also push the center back in so it cuts one side for you.

    • @justanotheravgjoe1314
      @justanotheravgjoe1314  3 роки тому

      That is pretty cool. I had to look up the Xyron Sticker maker as I had no clue what it was. It is also not very expensive, that could prove cost effective over time. How is clean up? That has been my main issue with trying different material and adhesives is prep time after shooting them. Do the stickers come off easily?

    • @Endoplasmic-Reticulum
      @Endoplasmic-Reticulum 3 роки тому +1

      @@justanotheravgjoe1314 The xyron has different choices of adhesive. You want to order the “repositionable adhesive” . The cleanup is super easy. The tissue and adhesive will roll off kinda like rubber cement when you have spent the cartridge. If you precut the tissue using two sizes of punch, then when it goes through the xyron, it has only the tissue paper sticker and no outlining adhesive. It’s as close to factory specs as you can get. I even made a jig to precisely align my placement. Have fun and be safe.

    get a wooden dowel that's just slightly smaller diameter than the cartridge such that you can stack like 6 papers on top of each other, hold the end of the dowel down on them, and just in one quick trace with an exacto/razor, you could cut out a bunch of perfect circle blanks for use as the front and back covers. this would save time and fiddling with trying to trim bits off the outside. you'd still have to trim the inside hole in the middle, but that's not nearly as much work as having to do all those little indents on the outside edges.

    Get an automotive trim adhesive like 3M 8080 or similar, and spray the paper instead of applying to the plastic discs. You can also use a silicone adhesive like Beacon 3 in1 and smear it on the paper with your finger. Apply the glued papers to the discs and then let the glue dry a few hours before trimming. And get an exacto knife. Should work much better.

      I had a fly on my camera stand on one filming and I shot it with the Shred-Er. Again, etched a pretty nice salt pattern in the hard plastic.
      I just use the Bug-A-Salt 3.0 inside, but even then I don't use around the monitors, computers or other electronics. I just shoo the fly until in a better location.

      I don't shoot as much salt as everyone seems to think from the videos. But yes this has been a concern of mine from the start, Shred-er, doesn't actually put out that much salt, the cylinders are .177 and only half full, which I discovered after making this video. But I have been looking at alternatives as well, corn cob media or maybe used coffee grounds. 🤷‍♂️. Mostly for the videos, I don't actually use these that often.

      Agreed. I still use the 3.0 for almost all of my fly and mosquito kills. I honestly have done most of the shred-er shooting for the videos in testing, reloading and VS. It is a fun gun, but not a necessary one. It is more work, maintenance and waste.

    • @kylewestrom7849

      Co2 is what gives it the extra power... The gun is focused on killing tough exoskeleton bugs like wasps/hornets which to me personally the 3.0 fails badly at. It’s meant to compliment the 3.0.. I wouldn’t waste my Co2 and cartridges on flies personally.

But sinve I have my own revolver with home made salt loads I am good. Got lucky when I picked up the gun. It has fake bullets with holes in the end for BB's or salt wads. OK, you've proved it's a doable thing (to re-load) for the Bug-a-Salt but...wow Talk about time consuming and labor intensive!

      Mic, you are not wrong. All the comments and feedback helped streamline it a bit. I would skip v 2.0 and 3.0 and go straight to v 4.0 as it isn't so bad. I have a new one coming out that is even faster and cleaner for the reload. Thanks for the comment, I just realized I should put v 1.0 on this one to let the viewer know this is an early attempt. 👍🏽

      @@thahitman2 yea I agree.. this whole gun has the workings of the vigilante.. I think they just say not to keep the Co2 in the gun to cover their assets but overall I think it will be fine. I make sure to put a drop of oil on each Co2 to help seal it.

      @@Dan_the_fisherman Thank you for this recommendation, It has given me some new ideas. The tissue tape is a great idea and am looking at related products, the only issue I would see is that it states that it is permanent, so this may cause an issue if you plan on repeatedly re-using the cartridges. Clean up between reloading has been the biggest issue I have been dealing with. Hence the kid glue, so I can just soak in water. But now I wonder if regular scotch tape (magic tape for easy removal) might work that would be fast and easy. I will try that out.

    You are putting wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much into this. Put a piece of paper down. Pack some salt in the holes , add a drop of water to it. finish packing the holes. let dry for 10 minutes and fire away. We have been doing this for a month or so with our Crossman air pistols. Has the same cartridge concept.

    • @justanotheravgjoe1314
      @justanotheravgjoe1314  3 роки тому

      Yes, absolutely agree. When I made the first video, The shredder was brand new and I was just curious if I could reload these as many commenters were questioning. V 2,0 was just trying magic tape to speed it up, but that ended up being messy. V 3.0 was clean, but time consuming. All 3 videos were based on viewer comments.
      But, water. That is BRILLIANT! It never occurred to me to try water, especially on such thin paper, cleanup would be a breeze. Hmm, but that would mean that I don't get to peel off the school glue residue off of my fingers when I'm done 🤔.
      But I was thinking of a quick final video and putting forwarding messages on all of the old ones as I now have fast/easy cut out layovers and can load several discs in minutes. Water though, that would be a total game changer. Thanks, 👍🏽

    They want $124 for this gun. That’s bs you have make your own way to load the gun. Ok, not even wroth $1.24 joke waste of money and time

    • @justanotheravgjoe1314
      @justanotheravgjoe1314  2 роки тому

      Yes, this is definitely a kick in the wallet, and you are not wrong.
      You don't have to make your own loads though. You can buy them but that is another expense $12 for 12 ($1 each). The loading videos (1-3) were really brainstorming videos seeking input from viewers. V4.0 is really the one that came through as quick and easy. You can do this with a Crosman vigilante that is ~1/2 the cost of the shred-er (as long as you don't mind the black revolver 😁).
      I did the comparison of the Vigilante and shred-er here:

      Thanks for watching.
