It kills flies dead, inside or outside. That's what it's designed to do.
Yes yes "yawn" it kills flies better than ever. In this video, I use the 3.0 to visit an in-ground yellow jacket wasp nest. My three-year-old grandson was by the pond watching fish when he discovered the wasps in the usual way, by getting stung. So, what to do? Well, test the 3.0 and see if it handles some of the most angsty stinger-equipped flying insects around.
Bug-A-Salt 2.0 (still awesome, wider pattern)

Hahaha ha dude yesss awesome comment
Holy
Looks like it just pissed them off.
It splits them in 2 sometimes they are fn sweeeet
Literally everything pisses them off
Break up polystyrene and put it in gasoline, it turns to jelly:Napalm👌🏻 It sticks better to the walls of their nest, looks quite effective too. Not to be used on mouse nests unless you wanna burn the whole countryside down 😬
SunnySydeRamsay they marry to often!
Bee Keeper lmao hundreds of furry flaming crawlers screaming across the town! Lmao
Cool slow mo
But I'll stick to the method my pops showed my about 25 years ago
Take a regular bug zapper and place about where you placed the gun and walk away
45 minutes later not a yellow jacket moving in sight
He exclaimed that when one dies they emit a pheromone that tells all if them to attack and every last one committed suicide trying to eliminate the bug zapper " threat"
@Bugz Murphy nah dude... it's just cheap entertainment for men. A "novelty" item (and I gotta agree about declaring war on the whole nest of Yellow Jackets... Possible Anaphylactic Shock is nothing to be f*ckin around with). Had to revisit this post...I meant no insult by my comment. Hell, I want one of those things lol. If nothing else, it'll help keep your shooting skills in order.
Delightfullydemented65 PMRChater nah man this is a valuable tool in the northeast where we get gypsy caterpillars. This allows me to decimate them in droves when the climb the trees, which they will kill. It’s green and safe for plants so I love it. I use duck tape to prevent them from climbing past a certain point, then I unleash on them in hoards. They fall like a slime to the ground. I just ordered my second one.
Weaaaak
Yeah but where is the fun in that 🤷🏾♂️ bugs killington
Phermone thing is true. That's why if one stings you the others do instantly. It's incredible how fast they react
I use 50% coarse and 50% table salt in my 2.0. This gives me harder hitting power for larger bugs (coarse) and still has enough spread (table) to get the job done for terrible aim (drunk).
interesting! Thanks!
Get a cheapo laser sight for it on Amazon. It has a pressure pad and everything. Makes aiming it a breeze. Just line up the laser at about 3 feet on aluminum foil. You can shoot from the hip if you like.
@@tonylwright Thanks Tony!
I use Kirkland signature sea salt from Costco. It works great.
@@MattTigers Hmmm... the options expand... thanks Matt!
The ant crawling around was happy to have pre salted yellow jackets
Minerals are FREE to ants, right along with the proteins.
Ants are cool lol.
What I just observed was the metaphoric equivalent of flicking a tigers ballsack with a rolled up tea towel..
interesting
No way you pissed off that swarm of yellow jackets and hung around without being stung. I shoot solo wasps with mine, but taking on a yellow jacket nest with a Bug A Salt leaves you seriously outgunned.
Yea at that point you need to deploy the nuke. (kettle full of boiling water)

LMAO they need a 4.0 yellow jacket edition!!! One you can go full "semi auto" 🤔
Trust me when I say, the manufacturers don't want ANY of their customers engaging in conflict with any stinging insects. That is all I shall say about that. Stick with flies and no one dies....

good advice all around
I live by that rule!😂😂😂
@@FrederickDunn So how many times did you get stung, and what were you wearing?
💀💀💀💀💀
The yellow jackets seemed to realize the threat was the salt gun from the attention they were showing it. I have had to shift into high gear many times after plowing up a nest.
True, they scent marked the gun and dragged their stingers across it so others would also recognize it as the threat.
Good video. For yellow jackets 🐝 🐝 my dad and I use to do the following:
Two lawn chairs about 30’ away or so,
A shop vac with extension cord.
Set vacuum nozzle at yellow jacket entrance and plug 🔌 in extension cord back at house. Relax in lawn chairs and enjoy the show. The vac aggravates the yellow jackets and they come out in droves only to make it about 2” before taking a ride in the black tunnel of death.
When you open the shop vac you will see that carnage. I’m not sure how they die so quickly, maybe it’s when they hit the filter inside.
My shop vac has no filter I dont think, just a tube that leads to the basin, meaning I'd have created a new den for these creatures, hundreds of flying yellow jackets cooped into a shop vac. I'd probably just suck my cars exhaust into the vac at that point to kill them off
I think they die of a combination of asphyxiation and dehydration, as their oxygen intake is deprived by the massive air current flowing outwards, which in turn also removes the water in their bodies, like putting a wet rag on the intake side of a fan.
Gotta hate wasps myself, lolz. Highly aggressive, can sting multiple times, they don't hunt enough pests like spiders do to justify tolerating them, have no useful byproducts, and goddamn do they reproduce like mad, _and kill honeybees, an insect that's a 1000 times more valuable and less aggressive._
Yaaasssss
I have done this trick.
Work very well!!
I use to cut grass for a living, my boss found a yellow jacket hole and thought it would be a good idea to park the 0-turn on top of it with the blades on. He wasn't able to swing the control arms out of the way before he started getting lit up. I felt bad for him but what could I do I was laughing so fucking hard I couldn't breathe.
I loved the video! After reading most of the comments on this video, I don't think some folks realize that you fully understood that you were taking a knife to a gun fight so to speak. I believe that this was more about a face to face, one against hundreds, revenge killing for stinging the grandchild. It was awesome! The video quality was awesome too. And you got to test the BAS ver3.0
I did something very similar in my living room when approximately 40 Guinea wasps came down my chimney on a cold night and stung my 2 year old on his face. I was spinning and pumping and shooting matrix style. Salt was everywhere. It was fun though.
YOU are very welcome here... thank you
Revenge is everything ...sack them !
I LOL’d hard 😂
Dam!!
Seems like you injured them. I like the flamethrower idea others have mentioned, plus you can use it indoors. Well, at least once.
Oh once 😊
I clicked this video on accident, and still watched the whole thing.
Good job.
After 3 shoot that's when Fred realize he needs a Bug Assault uzi !
Today, Frederick Dunn is impatiently waiting on the overnight delivery of his newest purchase... Bug-A-Salt Band Aids.
I have the 2.0 but you'd be nuts to attack the nest with one. Wait until they are by themselves then attack. It will take several shots to wound them and they fall to the ground where they meet their final end under a shoe and get squished
I can't stress enough that no one should take on a "nest site" with a salt gun. It can go very bad for everyone involved in a very short amount of time. The inventors of the Bug-a-salt have already voiced their concerns about my video... soooo... use on flies only (I have to say that).
Their exoskeleton certainly can withstand a few blasts of salt...... So, it's not as easy but still fun if you don't get stung. 😆
@@jasonmcdougal8998 it's "fun" for sure..
@@FrederickDunn yes last year I attacked a nest with bug spray and chemical spray, got some but the others can see you from 10 feet away and swarm you quickly. If you run they see you even further. I was stung in the eye Lid running 20 feet away. Hurt like hell!
BOOM! Headshot! BOOM! Headshot! With that many, you might need the Boring Company's Not A Flamthrower!
I was going to say napalm! Yellowjackets SUCK!
ua-cam.com/video/v4I6mMilmio/v-deo.html
Good video. I only have a 2.0 however here in Texas I get a lot of hanging nest builders. You can put the muzzle about 12 inches away and shoot to your hearts content. They cannot tell where is it coming from and if one does fly off just stand still a minute, then commence a-salting. Lets you get everything, adults and the grubs.
Man: watch my salt gun take care of these wasps!
Wasps: Hold my beer this guy needs to be taught a lesson!!
😂😂😂
Hold my beer. Very funny!
I used granulated boric acid and iodine salt in my 2.0, works on everything insect related thus far, I would have gone for a yellow option on the 3.
ok then
Well that got quite a reaction!
Indeed
I guess for yellow jackets I'll wait for the A-Salt Gatling Gun, or the A-Salt Cannon.
I have all four versions of the BaS family. Although the earlier versions claim they're not as effective on the wasps etc, I have found they also work just fine. The Lawn and Garden has even dispatched small roaches and stink bugs. The Black Fly edition 3.0 is a beast. I haven't tried the official salt. I want to try a coarse table salt or even pretzel salt to note the difference.
Hi Marc, I think the dust and smaller grains of salt in some other types of salt tend to gum up the loader and cause misfires. I'm going to continue my BA3.0 adventures in 2019. The "weaponized" salt seems good and won't jam your shooter!
I'll have to give it a shot. Pun intended. :D
Frederick Dunn it’s been about a year, and after further testing I’ve discovered that most effective range starts around 10 - 12 inches out to around 3 feet. At point blank, the salt hasn’t hd enough time to pick up most effective velocity. Also, the wider spread after one foot out makes for a better coverage. I have also tried kosher salt. Way more effective when it hits but the pattern doesn’t allow optimum coverage. Although I never had any dust caking issues, I can see where the high performance salt would excel.
Looks like you needed the Paddock model with the bump stock! Also, looked like a good idea until... Thanks for the video! LMAO!
Emeril needs one of these in his array of chefs tools. His catch phrase would certainly make a lot more sense.
I need a choke for my 2.0
Actually upvoted this video AND watched an ad to the end to support the channel. Good show!
I came just looking for a review and this was one of the coolest videos ever haha!
Thank you! The company that makes them wasn't pleased due to legal potential issues :)
I use my 2.0 on yellow jackets under the apple tree. In a few days, the jackets got smaller, and then smaller still, as I depleted the workers and the younger ones had to venture out. Most are a 2-3 hit per kill. Can kill a baldie, but you need 4-5 shots. They need to make a full auto BAS! Even more fun is the stable flies that drove me nuts on Lake Superior. They love to congregate on my mining buckets. You'll have a 5 gal bucket with 200 flies trying to warm up on it. Best shot so far has been 15 KIA.
OOOHhhhh 15 kia... there should be a medal for that! :)
Just get a shotgun and load it with rocksalt
Have the V2.0 and have witnessed the horror of horse flies taking off after a hit. V 3.0 should be here tomorrow... Hope it works on these beasties. If not, might try depleted uranium salt to blow up some horsefly ass.
Great video Fred, surprised the nest is still going at this time of year
Thanks Graham, this didn't just happen, I've been part of the beta test for the gun before it hit the market, so I actually made this video several weeks ago.
Idk bout u but I have this gun and every time I see a wasp I just go full auto on it, don’t even use it on mosquitoes much cuz don’t see them often
A shop vac works the best. Thank you for your work. Like the 3.0.😎
The bit with the wasps convinced me that this thing is absolutely useless.
It's designed for flies, not wasps. The manufacturer does not recommend it for wasps.
3:48 boy, did they get pissed! Trying to sting the gun! That was awesome.
That's me having nightmares about wasp's attacking me now! haha crazy, nice share bud, i just bought the 3.0 one for flies in the summer here in the UK! 🥰🥰
a-salt with a deadly weapon... 😂 nice video 👍
Dude the pun is awesome.
Bug-a-salt needs to come out in 12 gauge for those insects!
need XL version for shooting coarse sea salt (like the big rock salt on soft pretzels)
I bought one of these. Great for flies. As for yellow jackets I will stick to gasoline and a match.
With gasoline you don't need a match- it dissolves their wings & antennae.
I think the most important thing is to use salt that has an anti caking agent added. Anyone know what ingredient this is so we can look at the package & tell?
No idea
are you able to but a bb in that to make sure when you hit the bug it actually dies? ecept for getting injured
nope salt only
Man that looks like fun. I see carpenter bees having a problem in the spring.
I think you need a gatling version for those wasps. Would sugar work?
sugar clumps up too easy and attracts ants if you use it in your home.
@@FrederickDunn , what about sea salt? We use it for cooking and it's got some hefty grains.
Poppy seeds are where it's at
@@FrederickDunn Does sand work?
@@circle4922 nope, ruins the gun
I had an idea a while back: on a day with no wind, jab some sticks in a circle around a ground hive a safe distance away, then attach a 'fence' of plastic to the sticks and dump dirt on the bottom edge to give it a fairly good seal. Next, dump a couple of pounds of dry-ice inside the fence. As it melts, it turns into CO2, which is heavier than air. Theoretically, it /should/ sink down into the wasp nest and suffocate them. Any that fly down into the nest won't see or smell anything alarming before it is too late. Does that make sense?
Hi Keith, have you priced dry ice lately? VERY expensive where I live.
Keith I think the CIA and is hiring creative individuals like yourself.
just put a chunk of ice right over the hole.
“You’ve heard of peppering em up nice”
“Get ready for-“
They were obviously pretty salty about it.
💀💀💀
You know it.
Is a full auto version possible? I mean, there’s full auto air soft guns, so why not a bug a salt mini gun?
As the makers... they may come up with something :)
they have a modified crossman co2 pistol they sell now. Not quite full auto, but 10 shots before you gotta reload, and a lot more kick than a pump can do
The finest video Frederick..... My electrician lad's got one of these = he never ceases to amaze me!
My older bug A Salt has a pretty stiff trigger, making it a bit hard to shoot. Does the new version 3 have a softer trigger?
Hmmm, I think they are pretty much the same pull. I have run hot water through the units and dried them out well and that can free them up a bit if you've done a lot of shooting with it. BUT, it has to be totally dry before you reload them.
I imagined this from the WASP point of view. Like A Bug's Life, with an Uncharted 4 camera. A wall of salt lines the exit what broken fragments a body parts lay. On the flight up you come right in front blows up and you know you're in for a world of hurt. LOL.
Legend has the gun is still there.
and a tiny white cross with thousands of wasp stingers in it....
Fred my name is Troy and i have had my 3.0 for 2yrs and it has stopped shooting the salt. It still cocks and fires but no salt. I put water in the hopper and shot it out and let it dry before shooting again.
What do i do now? I efn LUV the 3.o and none live too long in my house.
That all being said, do i have to buy another?
Have you made a 4.0?
That would be awesome.
I would contact the people at Bug-a-salt and let them know what the issues are. They are pretty good at customer support.
I stepped in a yellow jackets nest when I was 10 years old. Got stung over 100 times. Laid on a pallet on the floor and doctored with lemon scented ammonia for 48 hours or more to get the swelling down. 43 years later I still won't go near them with anything less than a flame thrower.
understood... I agree with the flame method as well.
Poppy seeds seem to hit harder than salt in mine (a version 1.0.)
Were you running away when the weapon was down on the ground? LOL
No, I wanted to show how they attempted to sting and "mark" the gun as a target. You can see them extending their stingers and using their bodies to "mark" the threat.
Yes he was lol😂
he have anti Yellow Jacket armor on lol
@@zebulonsherman4529 hahaha! Hell yeah he was!!!
Run away, run away..
I've found the attack part to be kinda addictive to watch, fighting an army of yellow jackets with a salt shotgun and the epic music. Btw what's the name of the song?
I have a cheap airsoft hand gun spring load, would that work with salt in the barrel?
I don't think so.
I think I would have set up a bait station a few feet away, which would attract the wasps. Getting them out of their nest would likely be more productive (lol, destructive!) than pointing it into their nest hole. And it would probably be safer. Plus, you'd be able to keep the a-salt weapon in your hands.
.
3:42 it was at this moment Billy knew...
He FUCK'D UP
💀💀💀💀
When them Bee’s came pouring out of the ground i was like ahhh you done fucked up now lol
I love this thing! After picking up at any JBS, Tyson or any other type food plant my cab ends up with flies galore, and this helps me get rid of them fast!
Alas, it looks as if wasps and yellow jackets are still too heavily armored for even the Bug-A-Salt 3.0 to be consistent in killing them. I hope the people who make these will develop a version that's powerful enough to kill a yellow jacket instead of just knocking it around a bit. The 1.0-3.0 models are great for taking out pesky flies and most indoor insects, but killing those darn wasps requires something with even more kick.
Those Yellow Jackets WERE HUGE!!! Do you happen to live near a Nuclear Power Plant? Good work handling them though! With the size of em maybe using a 12gauge would be better...
Can please explain what having to do with power plant and bees
@@efrainsalcedo1540 lol
Omg! I laughed out loud at your comment! gauge on the yellow jackets, lol.
So hypothetically could one use this on say paper wasps? I'm not brave enough to shoot a nest but they tend to fly around and land on things in my shop and out by my pond. I'm asking because while it looked like you killed a few some seemed to shake it off and fly away.
dofishbuster --- I think paper wasps are good for the world and perhaps should not be killed... Look up this man's video where he has paper wasps helping defend his honey bee hives...
They were all dead by morning, who knows why.
What is the kill range? I don't think I would like to get that close.
For flies, it's effective at 36 inches give or take. I don't recommend a-salting-yellow jackets. Horse Flies you have to be within a couple of feet.
well that certainly escalated quickly.
Please do a video, testing the efectiveness of the bug a salt models, against cockroaches!
I would Daniel, but I don't have any cockroaches :(
What about rock salt? (Obviously altered a little so it works) does that work better?
Just gums up the works.
Do they make Bug-A-Salt Grenades for multiple target situations?
OH they DO! I call them VT-Saltine Fraggers and they auto-deploy when airborne hostiles are detected (';')( ';').. it's true... however, tied up in R & D for now...
Lawn and Garden edition works well on wasps and yellow jackets. Still a 2-3 shot kill though. I try to down them with one shot, then finish them off with a tactical spatula or my kids plastic baseball bat. Shooting them out of the air makes you feel pretty rad.
Ah yes.. ye old "tactical spatula" indeed sure to take them to room temperature in short order!
Brave brave Sir Robin!!
When danger reared its ugly head, he quickly turned his tail and fled! Brave-brave-brave-brave, brave-brave Sir Robin!

Is the $44 yellow and orange crush listings for the 3.0 the same as this one, except for color?
I wonder if dust from a steel grinder would work.
The yellow jacket thing esculated quickly....made my skin crawl a little
Come back at night with a liter of gas and insert bottle in hole. It well drain down all over the nest.
Didn't need to, the salt did it in the end.
Thats what i always do. I dont see how a few salt shots is going to kill what probably is half a million bees
Wait until it's dark outside, then put a good dose of Dawn dish soap followed by a gallon of water down the hole. Very effective and much safer than gasoline.
@@smokeyjoe6074 but if you use gas u get to burn it
we don't have litres of gas in the U.S.
lol excellent cinematography on this video, it was very climactic when you dropped the bug a salt to run
Would this work good for haunted houses?
How people pour salt around doors and such.
Yes, it does. and it doesn't hurt to add iron gates, they hate iron for some reason. Watch out for the "others".. as in those who were never human. (';')( ';')... not to be trifled with.
Never heard of this thing. A dealer at a gunshow this past weekend had one and showed me. It was a Model 2, and it was fraking cool. Took a couple tries to get used to it and learn the weird safety function. Guess I'll have to order a model 3, which may handle the bees better. Will await the Model 4, and the rechargable battery operated select-fire model.
Never ever shoot bees, unless they are the Africanized killer bees. Honey bees are welcome and perform a service for mankind.

Can you use beach sand in the guns or will it destroy the mechanism?
That would ruin the gun.

All I can say is Ha Ha Ha ha ha ha ha. Loved it. Thanks.
I'd make a small cage with aluminum screening, and a hole big enough for the barrel of the salt gun to fit in. Place it over the entrance to the nest, with the barrel of the gun in the hole. The wasps can leave the ground, but not fly away, while you're busy blowing out their mean little brains! :-)
Lots of options for sure!

Place a zapper over the hole, turn it on, start firing bug-a-salt into the hole and you win fight against yellow jacket wasp.
I wonder how effective about eight ounces of tannerite set at the nest entrance would be. I figure if it can split the tree stump on which it was set, it would probably do quite a number on a ground wasp nest, ...instant obliteration and no suffering.
