  • There's a few wet spots on our trails that get muddy early season. We've already fixed a few, but today we're fixing another section using a different method. We're Splitting a few boulders to create flat paver stones that we'll use to rock armor through the muddy bits. This is my first time splitting stone with feathers and Wedges so we'll see how this work out.
Here are the tools and equipment we used in this video. These are Affiliate links so any items bought using them will help support the our channel and work.

I have one more video from the skidmarks trail build coming. Because we finished that trail late fall we never really got to ride it and the end of the video just felt lacking. So look forward to that in the near future. In the meantime i have a few odd videos that I'll be posting here.

I was gonna comment asking for some timelapse with some tunes, but I was rewarded for my patience about halfway through haha. Thanks for the upload phil!

Haha i appreciate your patience :). Timelapses work best for "big scale" projects where there isn't much talking. This video had more talking and more small scale projects that don't work as well for Timelapse montages.

Splitting the rocks was so cool. I think you made a noticeable improvement.

As always, the trail building series is great even if you didn't use the mini-excavator! Good explanation of WHY you did what you did.

where water is coming from, there are different layers of dirt, the lower layer is harder for the water to penetrate so it runs between the two. in my case 12 to 18" below the service is red clay, the absorption rate is my slower so the water flows between the soft top soil and clay. You have a large rock slab just above the trail.

I Have a couple sets of points/feather and wedge I use for splitting rocks in sink holes and plugged up cave passages. So satisfying hearing the tone change as you tap them in.

Its become my new obsession. I ended up buying more wedges after this as well as more rock tools. Given where we are it's a good skill to be good at.

@@PhilsWorld That's awesome. Hope to see them put to use in future projects. Hydraulic grout and Ezebreak micro blaster kits are also very interesting

I've used hydraulic grout before in a different video, but i have been thinking about the micro blasters. I took the prerequisite "test" for it already. It's nice to have an array of tools to accomplish tasks.

Love Phil’s Builds! And breaking boulders makes me cringe, when I have to source rocks from Facebook marketplace. 😂

You’d like culverts better if you cut it shorter and rocked around both ends. It shouldn’t be very noticeable. Another good trick is double the diameter that you need and then cut it down the middle like a hot dog bun so your ditch is wider and more natural.

I just don't like using plastic altogether. I did here because i was lazy and had an extra piece laying around from an old project.
