  • I have a few chainsaws that need a little work. My 16 inch stopped running altogether, and my 20 inch needs a new chain. Let's get these up and running and do a little work.

    If you ever need to get spare chains for a dewalt saw, in my Home Depot seems to have the better in store selection, though i could not find any replacement bars in store. I incorrectly assumed lowes and HD carried roughly the same selection, but our Lowes does not seem to sell dewalt outdoor tools.

      I'm store agnostic, I go to which ever store is more convenient to me at the moment.

    My video would have involved me banging it on the table a few times and then driving to the hardware store to buy another one. Really well done, Phil. You have a lot of persistance.

      When there's a time crunch that's often my solution. But i also hate having expensive paperweights and most of this stuff is pretty easy to fix most of them time.

    Pls keep uploading them even if you don't upload mtb content🫣

    On the pack front I don't have personal experience with their saw bags, but I'd take a look at Mystery Ranch. I know hotshot crews out here like them, and I've loved all their other packs I've owned (features and durability). I think the SC 34 and Hotshot TL can both have saw pads.

      Oh thats a really solid tip! I never even thought to look into what hotshot crews use, but there's a lot of overlap. Thank you!

    I use, predominantly, Ryobi cordless tools. They are simply amazing for for occasional home use.

    • @PhilsWorld
      @PhilsWorld  4 місяці тому

      Ryobi has really come around, they have lots of useful tools for around the house. I'm not huge on the color, but they are owned by the same parent company as Milwaukee (and a bunch others). Dewalt/milwakee have a comparable spectrum of tools, thats really handy for me. From big chipping hammers to chainsaws they have decent tools for most everything. If i did mainly forestry stuff id probably invest in an electric huskavarna or stihl lineup but once you invest into one battery linup like dewalt it makes more sense to stay with that brand and maybe pickup a few batteries adapters.

      @@PhilsWorld speaking of batteries, My first cordless tool was a Dewalt drill. While my father started out with a Ryobi at the same time. We used both quite extensively when we built out automotive shop. After that large project both tools sat unused for a period of time. When we went to use them again, the batteries would not take a charge. Discovered the price for new batteries was quite high for the Dewalt but next to nothing for the Ryobi. Since the tools performed near the same for us, the cost of replacement batteries was the kicker. I have a full compliment of Ryobi tools now, except that, I purchased an 18v Milwaukee drill as their speed was quite higher than the Ryobi and suited my needs better.

    I've taken apart some of my DeWalt drills and woodworking tools before, and they were never the same after. Seemed like some of those assemblies were put together with voodoo magic 😅

      I know what you mean. I replaced the motor in a drill, and that never really worked the same. Not sure if the motor was not quite the same, or i messed something up when putting it back together. It still works though.

    Id actually recommend next time getting a chain without all those "guides" as you call them, they are a safety feature, that makes the saw kick back a bit less when handled improperly, but also makes it work much harder and in result cut slower. Standard Oregon 3/8 LP chain should work well.

    • @PhilsWorld
      @PhilsWorld  4 місяці тому +1

      I don't have a huge opinion one way or another on chain types yet. I would have gotten the same Oregon chain but i could only find it being sold by 100ft rolls. I figured before ordering a big roll that it'd be getting a smaller roll to see if how difficult it was to make chains.

    • @PhilsWorld
      @PhilsWorld  4 місяці тому +3

      Wow... my morning brain couldn't string a cohesive sentence together. That should read: "I figured before ordering a big roll that it'd get a smaller roll to see how difficult it was to make chains." 🤦‍♂️

      I have an echo timberwolf which works great, but i haven't touched it since i got an electric saw. For what I'm doing they are just more convenient. The downside right now is that they are less common and less supported but that will eventually change as time goes on.

      i was just out clearing blow downs, and i was able to saw through a 10inch trunk. It was a little frustrating, and i had to get a bit crafty but its handy to know you can do it in a pinch. I wouldn't want to make more than 2-3 cuts like that though.
