      No doubts about that in my opinion. That's also why I like Matt Stefan, Johnny Schultz, the bassfishingcoach, Richard gene the fishing machine, etc
      When it comes to Ben Miliken, the tournaments are hoping to attract more of the UA-cam audience. Trying to get some of their original audience back. It isn't working out for them though. For several reasons, not just because Ben has a big duplicitous mouth.
      Because watching tournaments used to be one of the only ways to learn about successful new techniques, because the pros were using and winning with the new technique. That was only possible if you had cable TV OR Satellite TV.
      But with the Internet taking away viewers from cable TV. Like LTE and 5G has made landlines, satellite/CABLE TV lose a lot of money, people are just less dependent on watching tournaments. That explains why bass fishing tournaments are losing sponsors.
      Their audience already has shrunken down to mostly competition fans. Finding out what the winners were using doesn't depend on watching the show anymore.
      Dropshot fishing became popular only after it started winning Bassmaster tournaments in the early 90s. But it, like wacky rigging was a well kept secret by the pros for many years before those tournament wins.
      So..... Here's the reason why tournaments are reluctant to ban or limit Livescope. It makes success in tournaments easier for less talented people. That's why Junk Fishing isn't something embarrassing anymore, like it used to be in the 1990s.
      With all the increases in tournament anglers, shouldn't the fees and prizes increased along with the participants?
      They used to be much higher in the 1990s when Walmart owned FLW.
      HIGH PRODUCTION COSTS AND LEGACY MEDIA REQUIREMENTS are just too expensive for the competitive bass fishing audience. It's as simple as that. That's probably why tournaments are very reluctant to provide the data they already have. They need to make tournament participants and fans of tournament fishing make up the loss in advertising revenue.
      But reducing the awards and prizes won't make professional tournament bass fishing more appealing to the general public. Making fishing easier for the general public might make it more appealing to the general public.
      That's why using Livescope, no matter how it takes the recognition away from the most talented and experienced anglers, is not something the old school bass fishing families, that used to have a monopoly on the sport, are reluctant to give it up.
      But unfortunately, it also causes professional bass fishing to lose it's magic and allure to the general public. It just looks like catching and harassing fish more than it does what it used to be, a master angler calling in the fish and charming them into taking his hook. Those days are over.

    You are right, bait fish don't dart around in the winter months like they do in the summer so mimicking the baitfish is key to working a jerkbait...got it!! Your videos are awesome no doubt and thanks for demonstrating this Randy!!

    Now...based on your description of the presentation, I'm assuming you're using a suspending jerkbait rather than a floating model. Please correct me if I misunderstood, but for a jerkbait to stay a long distance zone with minimal movement, i would think it would have to be a suspending model. I love the technique, and it makes perfect sense for winter fishing. Great content

    The Nessie is being used with lighter braid now. 10lb and 8lb braid. But it's only because they can cast it with light line on a baitcaster. Using a spinning rod just seems less professional for most lunk heads.

  • @robertdtimmerman
    @robertdtimmerman Рік тому

    I have switched to a spinning rod as you suggested, but 6 lb test won’t cut it. I will snap that line on my hook set. I will lighten my line from 15 to 12……maybe 10 lb test and give this new way a go.

    • @castandchill
      @castandchill Рік тому +2

      with a jerkbait and spinning rod its not a violent hook set. i was hesitant on 6 too but i found that it has worked out well

      @@zachg5356why else would he need to? If catching a fish using that technique without FFS doesn't convince him, it means using FFS is the only way he will fish.

    I'm not insinuating what your saying doesn't work but I work my jerk bait on casting gear all winter and I work it, just on more slack line. Still it gets worked. I catch fish all winter long even broke my PB this past February 1 on lewis Smith lake in Alabama with a 9.4lb large mouth. I was making the jerk bait earn it's keep with long pauses.

  • @robertbrost7777
    @robertbrost7777 Рік тому +1

    So, in summary a jerk bait isn't a jerk bait when used in the Winter. You just want to reel it down, let it balance itself and then shake the rod tip to just barely make the bait move as well as slowly turn your reel handle. Then let it pause and give it one or two twitches but just wrist type twitches. Winter, cold water jerk bait fishing has nothing to do with making the bait jerk back and forth like we've always been taught. I'll give it a try!

  • @terrytresemer2864
    @terrytresemer2864 Рік тому

    Not a problem shaking the rod here. It's 17 degrees with thirteen MPH winds & snow flurries. The trouble is water freezing on the line. Burrrrr!

    Hey Randy, do you want to become the jerk bait master, well fish, jerk bait from a kayak that’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done or even try fishing it sitting down that is tough lol

  • @fredflinstime6676
    @fredflinstime6676 Рік тому

    So let’s then ask: Why not just use a suspending crank bait and get way way deeper? Then just do the same motion with the crank bait instead of with the jerk bait. Then you can also use a much smaller profile bait. I mean, if you’re not gonna be jerking it, then why use a jerk bait?
