you can accomplish same on a baitcaster with a denali rod and 8lbs line. I am not saying the whip snake, is the wrong way to go, I am saying the baitcaster set up can be just as effective.

I built my own jerking rod on a 6,9”spin jig blank just so I could put a jerk bait on it and have the control and action I wanted. I used 8-12 lb line depending on the situation. Then I use retrieves Randy would shake his head at too I’m sure. We rip the hell out of them at times especially when the water first starts warming.

The Megabasss Whipsnake is a light action that tops out at 3/8 oz lure wt but most jerkbaits including the Magabass 110 weigh 1/2 oz so my question is are you over loading the Whipsnake rod or do you use a light jerkbait? Also you linked to the Megabass Ronin which in the description is made for use with jerbaits and it can handle the 1/2 oz lure as it tops out at 3/4 oz recommended lure weight so why would you not recommend it over the Whipsnake?

Yeah, I just graduated kindergarten. You worked with Yuki Ito on designing the 110? A rod blank doesn't know if it's supposed to be a spinning or casting rod. Builders use whichever blank they choose for either. Both are fully capable of casting, presenting and working a jerkbait.

Also, I looked at the Ronin and it looks like it has the same actions and power but it is 3 inches shorter. I'm only 5'7" so a shorter rod may work better for me. Any thoughts on that idea?

I cast cranks here toward the tip of the mit for walleyes in the fall from shore same thing. 6ft 6 st croix 3000 series spinning reel. 6lb fluro I cast it out give it like 6 hard reel/pops at the same time then I slow it down and crank soft and give it some pops of different calibers and reel faster then slower and sometimes will even give it a couple big rips and I am only fishing an inland lake and I have been bagging like 10+ over 20 inch walleyes a night from shore from 5:00pm-6pm. It’s been awesome. I cast mostly shallow Shad raps as where I am fishing these walleyes is only 3-5ft deep. Caught one that went 28.5 inches the other night. In the past week probably caught 50-60 walleyes over 20 inches and they all have swam away. I don’t fish for bass at all if I catch a bass it’s accidental but I respect Randy a lot.

Hello Randy. I know you are a huge proponent of using the Megabass Whipsnake for your jerkbait fishing. As you probably are aware Megabass makes several casting rods across their different lines specifically for fishing their jerkbaits: Destroyer P5- Oneten Special, Orochi XX F4.5-611XX JERKBAIT SPECIAL, Levante F4.5-611LV JERKBAIT SPECIAL. And the Orochi XX line even has a spinning rod specifically designed to fish jerkbaits the Ronin. My question for you would be why wouldn't any of these rods be an excellent (if not preferred) choice to use for jerkbait fishing, when the leading company in jerkbait design, Megabass put all their knowledge and experience into specifically designing those models for the technique?

But I also like using my Shimano Expride 6'10" Medium casting rod as well. Especially when the the technique calls for a more "aggresive" retrieve. I'm going to try your jerk bait technique in the saltwater. Trout and redfish bite them and maybe I'll get a striper.

I have buddies that absolutely refuse to pick up a spinning rod, ever. They think it makes them look like a sissy...

Some useful information in the video. However the notion of not using a baitcaster is ridiculous. Perfect example, one of the absolute best with a jerkbait is DC, guess what all he uses is a BAITCASTER.
Also, this video was just a means to promote Megabass😂😂😂😂
