I have nothing funny to comment so I will just thank you for continuing to make your videos ❤
Boingus wasn't mentioned in the video but he is in our hearts
Sounds like there's space for a part 2!
Thank u Mr. Fish
the only time you really needed the 200 bp blast from miraidon was in the fried chicken raids where Blaziken was flying tera (fatal move there) and you just one shot it with specs and two supports (instead of the usual three)

Is this an oxford comma moment
clearly an undisclosed miraidon ad campaign
A likely story... but I see through the Miraidon propaganda!
I'll bet he's been working with the Past Paradox form of Gholdengo, Old Money, to artificially boost his presence on pokemon youtube...
@@vonskeedle5309 wait a second...doesn't the player ride around on Miraidon...like...some sort of equine body...? Oh my god....
“If you’re an actual lunatic you can run Choice Band to be stronger.” gives the same energy as Reverend’s “You could also run Explosion over Soft-Boiled if you’re fuckin nuts. If you’re crazy.”
As someone who actually runs choice band Lokix, it was much appreciated and very accurate
3:19 They probably wanted Explosion to be a 500 damage move, but allocated only 8 bits to damage values, thus needing to cut the opponent's defense in half to get the damage.
Oh how I miss DPPt Azelf lead
Exactly this
Azelf is my goat
Hard to say, originally explosion was 170bp so maybe they wanted it to be 340 and just left the defense halving effect for a few generations while still making it 250bp
Lokix used First Impression! It's not very effective... The opposing Cinderace lost 100% of its HP! (Definetly not stolen from another moderator)
It feels like lokix had the same glitch as early gen chien-pao with it’s attack stat expect no one noticed it
Lokix made Golisopod another victim of Pokemon's massive overlap issue.
Give Golisopod Hustle as a Hidden Ability = problem solved.
Though now we have to deal with Durant being overlapped...
@@christiancinnabars1402 nah,you give golisopod stakeout as an HA, it has a good irony to it given that golisopod is known for retreating but deals twice as much damage on opponents that have just switched in, and maybe make first impression doable on opponents that have switched in for the first time(not just switched in, but switched in for the first time)
@@THEWUNDERBARGAMINGnah, that would lead to games just being Lokix clicking first impression 6 times
I mean, Golisopod can be used as a great physical wall...but lets be honest everyone including me just wants to tear things in half with its 125 attack stat, i mean 140 defense is fantastic but its more like a cherry on top since Emergency Exit makes it not able to abuse it :(
I petition to give first impression 150BP for no reason in particular other than it'd be funny
Sure, why tf not?
Bug could use the buff
*Golisopod speech bubble*
I petition to have everyone do their daily click in the description for no reason in particular other than it'd be funny.
Also, First Impression being buffed to 120 bp would unironically be a good, reasonable buff. No mon with it currently breaches UU, so why not?
One thing about Explosion in Gens 1, 2 and 3 is that if you use it you'll cancel out your opponent's turn. This can be CRAZY useful in a lot of scenarios, like denying recover, spikes, setup moves etc.
Choice specs electric terrain hadron engine Tera electric miraidon with three electric moves feels like a strategy a 10 year old would come up with. “Let’s make this thing, and give it power, then boost its power even more, then give it even more power, then make that even stronger!”
You would expect a seasoned competitive player to be like “no, no, that much power is a bit reductive, you can’t just slam boosts together and make it work. There are ground types, resists, special walls, faster pokemon, and so many mechanics that prevent you from just stacking power and winning.”
But it turns out it does work. Miraidon is just that ridiculous. It just powers through its resistances and uses team support for everything else.
The same 20 year old that designed Flutter Mane
Weak aura: I am at peace with my circumstances.
Strong aura: FUCK IT WE AXE KICK

gotta love the light ball, the item that doubles pikachus attack and special attack while also doing literally nothing for raichu (or pichu for that matter)
i sense absolutely no favouritism here
what being mr mascot does to a mf
I mean to be fair giving it to Raichu would probably break it specially since it's already pretty decent in VGC which is pretty much the only thing gamefreak really cares about
But also 612 attack Raichu would be extremely funny please do it
@@InsertFunnyThingHere Dude it's gen 9, light ball Raichu is a standard OU mon. With that speed stat and defenses it's getting killed by majority of mons
@@meeb_consumer eh I disagree. Pretty good speed, more special attack than Mewtwo if I didn't fuck up my math, and a good amount of coverage (plus the always good trait of being able to work as both a physical and special attacker) are probably enough for it to be banned.
At the very least it would probably be banned due to being an unpredictable powerful mixed attacker that causes uncompetitive play. But then again we wouldn't know for sure I guess
@@InsertFunnyThingHere Iron Valiant;
Tinted lens choice band first impression vs cinderace = OHKO
Miraidon when a horned fish gets a crystal heart on top of its head
you don't know true fear until ur gen 9 RU sweeper gets it's fucking head blown off by ambipom fake out it's legit lokix at home
Laughed at the part where you presented the Miraidon car
Watching Rajan’s discharge miraidon destroy everything in front of it despite having no business doing so was hype as fuck
3:19 If I had to guess why the exploding moves have the defense-halving effect, it was probably a memory-saving trick since the moves were introduced back in Gen 1.
Every other move has less than 255 base power (0 through 255 being the range of values that can be represented by a single byte). So rather than making every move in the game take up more memory just to support two moves that need to go higher than 255, they added that secondary effect so Self-destruct and Explosion can functionally exceed that limit. Just a guess though like I said.
I don't remember where I heard it, but I'm pretty sure this is true cause I've heard it before and it makes sense from a programming angle
its also important to note how much marowak gets boosted by its alolan form
I guess you could say Lokix made a pretty good FIRST IMPRESSION (Please laugh, please, my wife left me and now I'm all alone please laugh at my joke please, I need this)
hahahaaa jajajaja (im laughing)
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahagahagagagagagagaghahahahahaha
If you’re not joking, I hope you get better bro
I genuinely found this funny
I won't laugh cuz you got the gay brawler's pfp
Is this a down to UU reference
Electro Drift’s secondary effect is as good as every wild water/ground type using water sport when my grass type is literally right there standing in front of them
power stopped pointing from 0:54
This is true.
yeah it's what i do to make it clear it's a correction/addition. probs should add something lmfao
cant believe this, video completely unwatchable, unsubscribed, disliked even though it's intentional
Lokix may run band impression but then i hop on with durant band impression for the jackpot
20% of durant enjoyers quit before they hit it big
Gotta love early gens Gengar iconic "but what if i blow up?"
I'm just a dark type with tera bug. - Lokix March 2024 (Down to UU)
See I look at Bonemerang's accuracy and I just say to myself "It breaks Substitute, it's better than Earthquake".
But then again, I'm an idiot when it comes to Gen 1 experience and Gen 2 experience, despite having lived during those days and played Pokemon as an obsession.
Consider also: It’s a single target, effectively base 100 STAB Ground attack, meaning it doesn’t lose BP in Doubles.
This has been the Bonemerang Believer
We do actually know why Explosion cuts the defense stat by half. It's because the max value they can apply in code back then, was 255. It was supposed to have a base power of 500 so to compensate for the difference, your defense was halved instead.
Though the question why it wasnt fixed by Gen 3 is still unanswered. The 255 limit im pretty sure is exclusive to the og gameboy and gbc
i stumbled onto your channel a few days ago but you've quickly become my favorite content creator by far
keep doing what you're doing because it's literally perfect
the mk5 supra being miraidon makes so much sense idk why u cooked there
Boingus being present everywhere here means Dracovish was accounted for in this video
The reason they halved defense as an effect of Explosion is because the move base power field was only a 1 byte field, so this was a workaround to effectively get higher than that.
Somedays when I am sick of all the Skarmory's in ADV. I have both Choice Band Metagross and Magneton.
All the boost that miraidon can get(reply if i miss one) is hadron engine(1.33 spa), elec terrain(1.5 for elec att), choice spec(1.5 spa), tera elec or something (2 for elec or drag, 1.5 if not)
I actually won a school tourney with band lokix
Another way lokix gets pretty crazy damage is focus sash+swarm+physical bug attack.
Not as viable in a battle but it has knocked out things I figured it couldnt.
I miss Gen 4 Lickilicky, who uniquely had access to STAB Explosion, and could also learn Swords Dance if you wanted truly anything to get OHKOd
There's only one mon that resists both of lokix's STABs, Iron Valiant
And it’s in OU, while Lokix is in UU
252+ Atk Choice Band Tinted Lens Lokix First Impression vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Iron Valiant: 110-132 (37.9 - 45.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO. You're still doing a decent chunk to it.
Boingus just vibing in the presentation knowing damn well he caused 30 9/11's back in gen 8.
So that's why Lokix keeps killing me in pokerogue (this is a joke they don't have tinted lens there)
Fricking love lokix the first Bug Dark type and for once an early route Bug that's decent in competitive
People underestimate Kamen Rider.
Never underestimate Kamen Rider.
My favorite team in AG is just 6 miraidons with slightly varied sets to deal with specific checks and counters. The win rate is very high.
Crazy thought. I think ultra necrozma with light that burns the sky might be doing a little bit of damage
Honestly, the fact you can have an item that doubles your atk without any negative just show how sad Marowak State is 😅 but it is still sick tho...
Hoopa-Unbound could have gotten a spot too. With choice band and hyperspace fury, drain punch, 1 coverage move of your choice and psychic for physical walls (bc it still has 170 spa lol), it can ohko almost anything switching in. One of the best wallbreaker ever
pretty sure specs hoopa-u with focus blast stands a chance of 2hkoing blissey, and 252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Psychic Hoopa-Unbound Expanding Force (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey in Psychic Terrain: 398-470 (55.7 - 65.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO this is truy a calc of all time.
@@notapear how do you set up psychic terrain with specs hoopa?
There is a reason why mixed band hoopa is a valid set on smogon
Also, on a 252 hp 252+spedef blissey, I'm pretty sure that uninvested hyperspace fury does more than 80%
@@lulu82o Indeedee is the only valid psychic surge user rn(please let the tapus back I'm sure koko wouldn't cause absolute chaos to happen), but 2hkoing blissey with a special move is peak gaming.
@@notapear it doesn't matter, since setting up psy terrain and having hoopa-U on the field at the same time in anything but easy to set up and not only is standard choice band+ psychic set strictly better, but if you absolutely want to crush blissey with a special attack, psyshock will do MUCH more damage than expanding force
252+ SpA Choice Specs Hoopa-Unbound Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Blissey in Psychic Terrain: 678-798 (94.9 - 111.7%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO
That's full def blissey, aka OU standard.
If you take your exemple that was full spedef, aka uber standard, psyshock vs expanding force is like night and day
252+ SpA Choice Specs Hoopa-Unbound Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Blissey in Psychic Terrain: 1438-1693 (201.4 - 237.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO (and doesn't need psy terrain at all to kill)
In every case, dont run psy terrain+hoopa. Tapu lele specs with psyshock is easily able to deal with blissey and stall in general, you dont need to pair it with hoopa. As for special hoopa dealing with blissey, just run psyshock, or if you dont like psyshock for some reason, hoopa has 160 attack and zen headbutt, hyperspace fury and drain punch, so it can easily deal with blissey in every case
@@lulu82o yes but funni. Pretty sure you like ohko scizor, and pretty much ohko everything else neutral. Maybe even some frailer resists. Also you can do this in UU. Powercreep is a thing.
It appears that I was taught by a lunatic that choice band Lokix is the only Lokix.
Thank you explosion and all the beauty of it
You left off araqunid, choice band liquidation Tera in the rain can ohko amoungus

Gamefreak when makimg Miraidon: "Let's make a Pokemon with a Special Attack stat higher than Mewtwo-Mega-Y but make the base stat only 135 to put more points into bulk. And also give it better typing. Hey, wanna do that double ability shit again? We're just also gonna add Electric Surge to boost its STAB electric moves. And give it 135 speed so the only viable available Pokemon that are faster are Regieleki, Zacian and Calyrex -Shaddow Rider. Fuck it, it also gets a signature move that gets stronger on super effective hits. What do you mean, of course it's also allowed to hold an item?!"
I haven't played any of Gen 9, but HAVE been playing Pokerogue. And honestly, it makes me feel better to find out Lokix is just Like That. I thought the game might have been bsing me
3:24 I’m guessing the reason explosion halved defense in the first few gens is that they wanted to make it a 500bp move but somewhere along the way in the calculations, a number got capped due to technical limitations (most likely raw bp as 250 is suspiciously close to 256). Halving defense would allow them to have that super powerful move while working around technical limitations.
Explosion in Gen 1 is only a measley 170BP. Same Defense Halving effect.
Self Destruct is 130 instead of 200, though which is pretty close to 255. Not sure if this is a coincidence or not
Lokix is my favorite pokemon my boy is so good
Banded first impression golisiopod was valid
Kaboom? Yes Rico. Kaboom
Early on in this vgc format I was running tera fairy rhydon to completely wall miraidon and raging bolt, and being bulky enough to stand up against a decent amount of stuff and either support with helping hand or set up with swords dance
Shoutouts to Choice Band Sharpness Gallade, my favorite nuke in the game
Sometimes I wish Explosion still halved defense just for the meme of Tera Electric, Electric Terrain, Electric Gem, Galvanize Explosion. All thanks to the awe Inspiring Alolan Golem
i have a team for anything goes on showdown entirely made of lokix with first impression, all of which are named First Impression aside from one of them, which is named "FIRST IMPRESSION", is tera bug and is banded
2:30 By 1/3rd. Yes, the game has weirdness around the tenth decimal, but it's much closer.
I feel like Collision Course and Electro Drift should follow their Terra Type.
I'm just convinced EWGF is just trying to get us all to play GNC OU so we can experience the frustration of snorlax
on god snorlax is actually the least frustrating mon ever it solves every problem ever.
the real issue is jynx that motherfucker is such a pain to deal with
it's a bit more niche than all this stuff but stakeout is a really overpowered ability similar to tinted lens (it does double damage to switch ins if you forgot). there aren't any "good" mons with it thankfully, but i managed to build a gen 9 ou team with adamant banded mabostiff to support gambit by nuking dark resists. great tusk takes over 40% from crunch which is obviously obscene, and easily drops to any coverage
new gen boom be saving my bacon. i only wish the defense halving happened on curse, bulk up, idbp.
Eruption sun boosted heatran 2hkos slowbro and specs does the same to toxapex. It’s pretty crazy
Lokix makes me very happy, tinted lens is one of my favorite abilities and the only particularly effective physical user of tinted lens was Mothim... So nothing was an effectve physical tinted lens mon.
justice for pikachu
Still waiting on my boi araquanid, aka boingus 1.0. Would’ve been the perfect slideshow for him
Just calced it and with only specs and no tera and with the only modifiers being E-terrain, stab, Hadron engine, and specs; Miraidon is dealing x3.89025 of its normal damage with electric moves 💀. This is also coming from a 135 base Sp. Atk stat. Gamefreak is insane 😭
Cubone/marowak (kanto) is my favourite pokemon. Still strong in later gens as it can break through many walls (toxapex, blissey, ferrothorn etc) with the right move set and/or trick room.
Made a funny OU team in the early gen 9: Lokix, Gholdengo, Toxapex, Pelipper, Clodsire and Floatzel. It wasn't that good, but Lokix and rain Floatzel BOTH WITH CHOICE BAND were absolute beasts. Floatzel used to ohko almost everything with rain boosted wave crash and Lokix was just the best revenge killer in the game
Miraidon makes me wish this game showed damage numbers just so I could see how much it's overkilling by.
Imagine if [Tinted Lens] was _*3,_ it would be crazy.
that must be one hell of a club
LOKIX MENTIONED !!!!!!!!!!!!!
3:53 i miss the old kanye
electric wind girl friend neglected to mention aggron as an answer to explosion in adv....this is obscene folks
I actually ran choice band Loxix on my mono type bug team on showdown, it was pure ass hit 1200’s with it.
When i first got into Competitive i wanted to use my favorite Pokemon, which is Golisopod, and i slapped a Band on that bad boy and OH GOOD HEAVENS IT MAY NOT HAVE TINTED LENS BUT JESUS CHRIST. Golisopod tore everything in fucking Half as long as it wasnt a 4X resist (Gen 9 Natdex btw). But the downside being if used the silly First Impression button i had to switch out ASAP making Hazards a bitch. I now run BootsPod. Still great but its now used as a Revenge Killer, and not a fucking NUKE LEAD
Another thing about GSC is the difference in how EVs worked back then. This made offensive-minded Pokémon significantly tankier than they'd otherwise bother to be.

that's what he said
is swagger something that is used in gsc to cripple sword dancing marowaks? it seems niche because itd only be good on marowak but i can imagine it allowing for big shifts in momentum if you capitalise on it

@@jake9107 ohhh that explains a lot
So I’m hearing that Explosion “cuts” the enemy’s defense and not “ignores.” If the enemy survives an explosion, will they have half defense while they’re out until they swap out or something?
Only during the time frame where damage is applied. Its not "ignoring" defense stat, since "half of the defense stat" is more than "None of the defense stat".
@
Wow, I must’ve been tired when I wrote this, because I worded that wrong when I wrote that comment. When I said “ignore,” I meant “ignore half the enemy’s defense,” oops.
In most other games, “cut” implies that the defense drop is a lasting debuff. So seeing it worded like this here makes it sound weird.
Does emotional damage count? Because I've watched some nuzlockes where the AI was using some emotional-damage demons...
