    More than 500 different species of microbes live in our gut and our gut bacteria regulate many of our bodily functions, from creating vitamins to controlling our immune system, metabolism, brain function, and more. Simply put, they are critical to our long-term health. Imbalances in the gut ecosystem often trigger or exacerbate small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), along with many other issues.
    Dr. Hyman sits down with Dr. George Papanicolaou to explain what SIBO is, how they diagnose and treat it in their patients, and why it is almost always paired with a number of other health issues. Dr. Hyman also shares his personal experience battling SIBO along with mercury poisoning.
    George Papanicolaou is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is Board Certified in Family Medicine from Abington Memorial Hospital. He is also an Institute for Functional Medicine Practitioner. Upon graduation from his residency he joined the Indian Health Service. He worked on the Navajo reservation for 4 years at the Chinle Comprehensive Medical Facility where he served as the Outpatient Department Coordinator. In 2000, he founded Cornerstone Family Practice in Rowley, MA. He practiced with a philosophy centered on personal relationships and treating the whole person, not just not the disease. He called that philosophy, “Whole Life Wellness”. Over time as the healthcare system made it harder for patients to receive this kind of personal care Dr. Papanicolaou decided a change was needed. He began training in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine. In 2015, he established Cornerstone Personal Health-a practice dedicated entirely to Functional Medicine. Dr. Papanicolaou to join The UltraWellness Center in 2017.

So I would advise not getting caught up on 4 or 5 plants and focus on variation within whatever plants you like. This is also the best way to get varied nutrients and other benefits.

      It may just save you years of your life (of pain if you are in pain) to spend the time to read the book and apply what it says. I read the book 3 times, cleaned up my fridge and replaced it with all that was recommended in the book and cured my fibromyalgia which i had been suffering for 8+ yrs and lost 10 lbs just in 2 weeks of pegan diet. My goal wasn't to lose weight and I dont even like reading and I barely read a book in a year but I was desperate. It turned out to be a worthy investment of time and effort, because otherwise I may have spent thousands on docs and medications, died prematurely and very painfully too - not knowing why and how to fix it. All that to say, this is why I am raving about his book to strangers on UA-cam which I never do either. If you don't spend time & effort to consider what is worthy, you might just be missing out big time. I could also just summarize the book in this comment section but my gut tells me that those who are looking for an easy way out will likely not pay attention or take it seriously to do what it says anyways. Or maybe you are not in a place where you are seriously going to try something diff. I also like the idea of supporting Mark Hyman to thrive in his business (not that he is in it for the $) and get people to actually purchase his books and read them for themselves and get better in health because he sure is doing a lot of good in this world. This is my very small way of expressing 'thank you' to Hyman for ending my daily suffering of pain, fatigue, headache. The benefits of having a pain free life extends far beyond just me. It affects my relationships with my family, friends and neighbors.

Having watched a few they come across as advertorial promoting functional health and even more so the clinics that practice it. There really are no practical tips or advice just ‘case studies’ with remarkable transformations’, the title of this video is pretty much click bait implying there is more.
    I have no doubt you guys are doing great work, your enthusiasm is clear. But (yes, there is a but) it still comes down to me having to make the changes. One change I had to do was to do a boat load of research on my own, and I admit here some of that boatload is to no healthy avail for me (scams?). Some of who I refer to via UA-cam are the following. All in all the lifestyle changes have to be made by you... as in, I do think that we all can figure it out mostly on our own. One has to do the research to recover ones well being as long as, if not longer, than it took to mess our selves up.

    THIS IS ME!!! after months of sudden onset of joint pains and then muscles and nerves...the burning started in my stomach then i began reacting to foods i could eat previously. by month 4 i suddenly started losing weight and can't seem to put it back on. lost about 30-35lbs over 4-5 months. since i've been learning what i can and cant eat i'm experiencing a bit less pain and able to actually get a few hours sleep now. but i still get burning in my abdomen area. had a colonoscopy and endoscopy but it was clear. i know they haven't checked my Small intestine good which is where the damage is. my body literally seems to have stop absorbing nutrients. I know i had really bad stomach issues years ago. lots of bloating and periodic bouts of diarrhea throughout the years thinking it was food poising. then i had fibromyalgia type issues and random on and off pains in ankles and knees for years. cleaned up my diet ten years ago and most of those symptoms vanished after the first 6-8 months of plant based diet. but something exploded on me last year.

      Have you thought in doing a parasite cleanse? First the big ones with mebendazol in full moon, than the microscopic ones with Artemisia Annua or sweet wormwood. For candida overgrowth you can use oregano oil with carvacrol in it or cinamon and turcmeric powder. You will feel a lot better.

    • @gammayin3245
      @gammayin3245 3 роки тому +2

      The doctors are talking about the human body as an organized and interlinked collection of parts - that's what they refer to as a "Matrix". In functional medicine, they look at all inputs, such as diet, exercise, stress levels and sleep when they look at a person with a medical problem. Then, the functional medicine doctors recommend various lifestyle changes to reset the body in a healthy way. In contrast, doctors who practice conventional allopathic medicine treat each body part separately and reduce symptoms usually by prescribing medication. If you want to be healthy, then eat real food. Mostly plants. Not too much. Also move every day. If you need a coach, then I recommend Noom - found at www.noom.com/#/ - and even though health insurance doesn't pay for it it is money well spent if you can avoid high medical costs later on. Best wishes Karla!
