Energy weapons is always super simple for me. MF Breeder for close range/sidearm, Q35 for midrange and general use, YCS for sniping. Crazy ammo efficient, can be acquired early and all in base game, and can carry you permanently through the game. Sometimes mixing in Holorifle and/or Elijah's LAER for spice.
The typing and conversion capabilities make energy weapons so versatile. Especially the presence of bulk ammo of all three. Just go bulk whenever possible on weaker enemies and just swap to some charged stuff when needed.
My favorites are the holorifle, the YCS/186, Pew-Pew, the Q-35 Matter Modulator, and the MF Hyperbreeder, and the Laser RCW. The biggest reason that the Laser RCW is on the list isn't because it's a great gun like the others are, it's because it's a laser tommy gun and that's just cool.
RCW is a great early pick-up from the Fiends and you get enough to keep it repaired. I like to open at distance with the RCW and then switch to Pew-Pew if I rushed it or else I'll snag a laser rifle or rush the AER14
I think the Holorifle is underrated. It has the highest damage for a single cartridge for any single weapon, save a few explosive ones. It is durable, and has enough capacity to kill almost any enemy in the game in a full magazine. And most importantly, it looks hella cool!
Yeah not gonna lie the laser rifle with all three modifications on it makes it a nightmare for anyone caught in its line of fire. I went up against a trio of deathclaws in The Thorn while wearing Ranger Combat Armor + Helmet with a fully decked out Laser Rifle. So anyway I started blasting and in seconds the deathclaws are nothing but ash.
Compliance regular is one of my top 3 energy weapns. paired with a thermic lance is very perk and skill point efficient for a melee build. You can still do good with just the thermic lance to but together you can take on anything in the game
The laser rifle is my favourite too. I like it with the scope since I can then see enemies far away and firing from the hip works well close range. It just tears up deathclaws and everything else. I remember I forgot about deathclaw promontory and walked in on very hard difficulty and slaughtered everything with my fully upgraded laser rifle. I’m always drawn to it when using energy weapons
Laser rifle is shockingly good for that early in the game, hell you'll probably get a few for free of some dead Bright Followers. Use repair and you good for a long while.
Holo Rifle *MY BELOVED* There was something about being in Sierra Madre in my first campaign while doing a energy weapon run then getting all your loot taken and this thing being the only thing given to you. This "thing" became my holy weapon in those dark times. Really got me attached to it for the rest of the campaign 🎉 😂
I’m sadly torn between the fully modded laser rifle and the holorifle… (long rant ahead) The laser rifle, without crits, can be somewhat lacking in punch but is the best sniping weapon I have ever used. I’ve wiped out Cottonwood Cove from another zip code with that reliable beauty. Now the Holorifle. An absolute beast in terms of damage. Fairly accurate. But I have trouble sniping with it… or even landing shots on charging enemies. It feels clumsy despite all its inherent strengths. I need something in the middle between the speed and pinpoint precision of the former and the raw stopping power of the latter. The regular LAER feels like that answer for most cases. Should I just gud with the holorifle?
The laser rifle being in the top spot warms my heart. I love that weapon. It’ll never let you down. However, I feel like it’s worth noting that with the beam splitter, using it in VATS isn’t usually the best idea, as it acts like a shotgun. VATS and multiple projectiles don’t mix so well together, unfortunately. The damage potential is greatly hampered.
I was genuinely wondering how he put it at slot 10. Idk if it's just an Xbox 360 issue, but mine like never misses in vats. I will aim at something with about 3% hit chance and I never miss. 🤷♂️
Fully modded laser rifle is indeed a consistent beast for all kinds of builds due to relatively low skill requirement. I used it so often back in the day, i had to make a rough decision to stop using it altogether because every run started to look like laser gun run. I did a laser gun playthrough with laser commander plus a few laser related perks from some perk mods and it definitely felt like i'd be able to play through the entire game with it if i wanted to.
It melts just about anything, especially if you’re built for frequent crits. I wouldn’t recommend using it in VATS if you have the beam splitter equipped, though.
The holorifle being under the ycs is kinda crazy to me being able to run max charge with 0 downside and a much better hip fire is just way more useful also ot hits much harder it feel like. 100% agree with the laser rifle though it's just busted all around especially modded
When you were discussing 2nd place I was sure no.1 is gonna be alien blaster, wich would sadly mean there's no room for laser rifle at all. And then YES! Laser rifle appreciated. New Vegas is the first Fallout where Laser rifle realy shines. It used to be one of the energy weapons, here it is THE energy weapon. And not becouse it's OP the momment you pick it up, mind you. It starts good and then with time gets better, it basicly levels up with you (via 3 mod upgrades and selecting right perks, being Vigilant Recycler, Laser Commander and ofc Finesse, Better Crits, Light Touch for light armor users, even Lonesome road ED-E 4th upgrade gives bonus in form of +5 beam weapon damage) wich means it can carry you thru everything game throws at you all the way to the end (except places that take your weapons away like casinos and Dead Money ofc) What makes it awesome: -with Beam splitter it crits like a shotgun (it takes only one "shrapnel" to succesfully crit for all of them to crit), just with no spread becouse three beams hit the same spot -with Scope it's almost as acurate as sniper weapons, but in practice it actually works much better - shoots faster and reloads once every 24 shots (meaning even if you fail to insta kill with headshot, you have all the time you need to finish enemy off with consecutive shots) -simple in use: good for all distances(no need to swich weapons), durable, easy to repair (spare rifles are fairly common) and it's regular ammo is plentiful (for special ammo: optimized microfusion cell, crafted with Vigilant Recycler perk, is all you'll ever need)
I woukld argue the Modded Laser Rifle is the best energy weapon in the game based on versatility. Its got the best combination of features of any of the energy weapons being good at very range good item health managing ammo is easuer with energy weapons AND it uses the most common type good spread good damage its fires fast it has energy weapon innate armor piercin theres literally nothing it isnt good at. This isnt a jack of all trades master of none this is this is a weapon that podiums in every event in winter and summer games
@@thatskeletordude5271 it is hilarious watching each trigger pull with max charge ammo deplete the bar visibly. Fortunately, even just half-assing an energy/crit build causes such a thing to just toast every enemy in 1-3 hits. I am also fairly certain you can Jury Rig it with plasma/multiplas rifles and/or laser RCWs, so repairing it isn't TOO bad if you save a few.
i would've put the regular laer here instead of elijah's cause the beam splitting can make this decently strong on very hard even if the crit damage his comparatively low.

MF Hyperbreeder Alpha These aren't really based on stats but more stuff like accessibility, utility and how much I like it. AER is one of my favorites because I think it's a better version of the laser rifle since I very rarely remember to buy weapon mods. Pew-Pew is a one-tapper and most things that survige the first shot go down on the second. The Hyperbreeder allows me to play an Energy Weapons build while using all my energy ammo to break the in-game economy.
I honestly never used the energy weapons because of the goo/ash piles that never disappeared. I know it can be easy to mod out but I've always liked the vanilla version of FONV. FO 4 I mod the heck out of though;). Edited for spelling.

I used recharge rifle a lot because even so is heavy no additional weight for ammunition is needed. And for first time I played this game it was difficult to find sufficient ammo for guns. Especially when you play it with Spanish language to learn Spanish during process of playing. So I did not understand everything how it works. But true is is lack luster but it was ok for e while until i get better in game.
Elijah's LAER and Holorifle too low, YCS and Gatling Laser way too high (good luck killing anything with the latter if it has any serious DT), and where the heck is Pew Pew? If you thought Gatling Lasers were good with Laser Commander, just try Pew Pew with it.
@@user-we8kp3lc1s Exactly my point. It needs 5+ perks and max charge ammo to shred. Elijah's LAER and the Holorifle shred without any of that. Add the fact that those perks also work on LAERs, and it should become clear why putting the gatling laser over Elijah's LAER makes no sense. The cost of repair kits you'll need for the LAER is compensated by the ammo cost for the gatling laser (especially considering that you're feeding max charge ammo to a very ammo hungry weapon). The gatling laser is cool, I give it that, but it's nowhere near the 4th best energy weapon in the game.

The Laser Rifle is the 10 highest DPS in the game and when armor is factored in it raises to 8th while being accurate being good with ammo better item health than most energy weapons while being easy to repair and being good at literally any range. The LAER falls apart too quickly at 1/3rd item health and cant hit the broadside of a barn while the tri-beam has double the spread worse ammo capacity and thge same item health as the Base LAER
Not yet. But that's like asking why people still make DS3 content. Is a DS3 remake out that no one knows about? Obviously not. The reason this video exists is because it's content. Doesn't need to be new to have content made on it.
Energy weapons is probably my favourite weapon type in the whole of fallout not just new Vegas so this list was very appreciated and fun to watch !

I'm using the compliance regulator for the first time in my current build and it's saved my ass so many times lol
One of the reasons to have bad reputation with the Legion is just for that early game Thermic Lance.

I agree, and if you want to run down to Nipton at the start you can get a few for free.

I always keep a Plasma Defender on me. Per pound, the most efficient damage output.

The yc...something something is amazing with the meltdown perk sneak attack headshot and everyone dies which helps with ammo and repairs.
While it is situational, the unique flamer with Max energy weapons is a personal favorite

You forgot the unique flamer, “Cleansing Flame”! Is that not as good though? I use it almost every play-through and it carries me pretty decently
Pretty niche weapon, it will struggle vs High DT but it absolutely shred naked targets.
Also Energy/Plasma weapons ignore some DT.

I really like the Plasma Defender, fully moded it's quite strong, and I believe with a high enough sneak can be used as a hold out weapon.

Not yet. But that's like asking why people still make DS3 content. Is a DS3 remake out that no one knows about? Obviously not. The reason this video exists is because it's content. Doesn't need to be new to have content made on it.
