Omothymus & Chilobrachys Tarantula in the wild! | Island Species from Malaysia

- Vlog #19 - Malaysia
Let's take a break from our adventures in Chile and hop back a few weeks to our journey in the country of Malaysia. While taking some days off on a small island on the coast of Malaysia, we are able to search for one of the most elusive arboreal genus of tarantula ever - Omothymus. Omothymus or Tiger Tree Spider is a genus from South East Asia with species occuring in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Their ecology and taxonomic status is not well defined, that's why it is even more exciting for us to search for this giant tree monster tarantula! Even more exciting is that we team up with friends from France in this episode, which is amazing!
On the very same island lives furthermore a terrestrial tarantula from the subfamily Selenocosmiinae, in this case it's a Chilobrachys species. Follow our journey and see if we are going to find any of these mentioned tarantula species... or if we are already out of luck!

I’m from Langkawi and didn’t know we have such amazing species here! Kinda scary now to be in nature knowing they’re up on the tall foliages as I track in Langkawi’s wood a lot!
don't be scared! They are not dangerous to us humans. Make sure you are able to protect them, this is one of its kind and potentially only native to Langkawi :) great nature treasure you have there!
Not dangerous to humans but painful bite
I love both of these species so much, so grateful for this channel. Chilo's, Cyriopagopus, and pokies are my favorites. If I had to narrow it down further I'd say any so called "Earth Tigers." 🖤
Another awesome video as always, thank you so much for sharing, Omothymus schioedtei is one sp I need to add to my coĺlection!
great to hear you like it! these are awesome species, I really like them :)
Just bought my P. Metallica finally and this is the first ad i get on youtube, thankyou youtube
targeting appears to work :) great to see you here! Have fun watching our other videos, maybe our Poecilotheria subfusca video in Sri Lanka would be interesting for you?

Probably Ornithoctininae sp phan cay
Love it man, I have tons of Ornithoctoninae like Ornithoctoninae Sp. Phan Cay, Omothymus Sp. Langkawi, Omothymus Schiodtei, Omothymus Violaceopes, Cyriopagopus Sp. Sumatran Tiger, Phormingochilus Sp. Sabah Blue, Phormingochilus Rufus, Phormingochilus Arboricola, Phormingochilus Sp. Akcaya, and tons of others all adult females too
Awesome!! Beautiful T's!!
thanks Antonio!
While I was in Kinabalu Park this summer I spotted what looked like a light purple tarantula. I could only see it’s legs, they were definitely a very light purple. It was hiding in a metal railing and eventually hid deeper in the railing so I never got to see it completely. I’ve been searching all over the internet for it and couldn’t find anything that resembles it but the omithymus is the closest I’ve seen so far!
Nice. We had similar problems with height in Sulawesi and in Ghana!
and it's even more difficult when you are on your own, as I was in Malaysia. Otherwise I would have used someone as a ladder :P
Good documentation 😊
Wow so cool. What a beautiful place and Beautiful T's
this island is outstanding, loved it (:
birdspidersCH I bet it its awesome I would be like a little boy in a candy shop.
Absolutely stunning T's for a stunning island 👍🏻
Beautiful species.
Omothymus are great looking!
I wish you have more subscriber :)

It's amazing how high up they live!
yeah, they prefer the height!
Can we get a video of Ornithoctoninae Sp. Phan Cay in the wild?
❤️
cheers Erika!
So beautiful! And so tropical. I enjoyed a lot watching it from the cold Santiago.
:) Enjoy the coming winter in Chile!
Super tolle Aufnahmen. Eine Idee: Ort auf Weltkugel und Klimadiagramm einblenden. Sind noch mehr Fakten...
ist mit dem Copyright nicht wirklich einfach, mal schauen was da machbar ist
How do you afford going to all these places!! Are you rich?! 🤣😂
of course I'm rich! Rich in experience after all these fieldtrips, i'm very happy to be in a position to afford these kind of travels. But honestly, no I'm not rich. I just save all my money for fieldtrips like this, other save up for a car or something ;-)

Is chilobrachys Andersoni from Malaysia?
the type is from Myanmar, also ranging into southern Thailand... Malaysia I'm not sure but potentially there could be records of it aswell.
@@birdspiders owhh okok what about the cyriopagopus sp Hati Hati? And maybe a video about it would be great :-)
Looks like akcaya?? 🤔
Akcaya is from another island, different coast :)
