    Cold Blood is awesome. When i was somewhat new, i bought a 'unsexed sub-adult' T. Albopilosum. I found out 2 weeks later it was a female, when she dropped a sac, after contacting the seller, i found out it was mated in the wild(wft! Didnt know it was wildcaught! Now im better at knowing, and asking questions. I dont support wild-caught, 99% of the time). Being new i was overwhelmed on how to take care of this girl, and then her babies. Cold Blood helped me, he texted me back and forth for months everytime i had any little question. With his help, I had 232 healthy babies. Super awesome guy. I've also bought from him and would do so again, nothing but great things to say about him.
    Side note, i have a juvie O. Schioedtei, absolutely beautiful

    Hello Tom. I was wondering if you could provide tips for Holothele sanguicipes (formerly longipes)? What little I can find is conflicting, with some advising drier conditions, and others making it sound more moisture dependent. Mostly what I find is posts about N. incei. Mine is currently in premolt with burrow shut.

    Thanks for the videos.

    • @TomsBigSpiders
      @TomsBigSpiders  4 роки тому

      Hello! I was scouting these guys out a few months ago, but I haven't bought any yet. To me, it sounded like they would appreciate some moisture, especially as slings. Once they put on some size, I would keep part of the substrate moist and let it dry out a bit in between. It sounds to me like they are adaptable, which is why some are giving them dry. In those instance, I err on the side of caution and keep part moist for them.
      Even the spiders are self-quarantining! haha
      I hope all is well!

My male matured two months ago and is now randomly tapping on his enclosure. He’s about a year and 4 months I’d guess. My female hasn’t molted for six months so I’m waiting for her to molt before trying to mate them. However I’m worried that my male won’t live long enough to see the day since makes if this species have such a short lifespan. I know this is a very difficult species to breed and I was wondering if you could give me some advice for breeding them. I was also wondering if you could point me in the direction of someone I could send my male to for a breeding loan in case too much time goes by. Thank you.

      Hello, Anthony! Is your male still eating? I've have Poecilotheria males live quite a long time once they mature. A P. smithi male I kept lived close to two years after his molt. You may be okay. Just keep him on a cooler shelf and keep him fed. If you're afraid that he won't make it, I would sign up to Arachnoboards and post on their classifieds board. You should be able to find someone there. I hope that helps!

    Tom, SOS. I know you read comments first so here I am!
    I’m terrified. I just received my sling in the mail LITERALLY 20mins who. I saw this shriveled up thing that apparently is the exoskeleton because it already MOLTED! It’s arboreal and I believe that I found the cocoon and I put some water droplets around it, shut the container and left it be. I’m so scared I hurt it by jostling it. This is my first sling and I was not expecting a molt right off the bat! Please tell me it will be ok, I’m terrified.

      Hello, Courtney. Oh no! So it molted in transit? Ugh. Although not common, that can happen on occasion. You did the right thing by not disturbing it. I'm assuming that it's still in the shipping vial? If so, place that into another container with the lid off and let it come out when it's ready. Don't try to unpack it now. Also, I would immediately notify the dealer that you purchased it from to let them know that it molted in transit.

      It actually came in a pretty little sweet container! Had substrate, moss and vents at the top. It had a moist paper towel at the top too but yeah. TOTALLY MOLTED!! I’ll leave it be in another container like you said. I just hope me jostling it didn’t hurt it! I was totally not expecting this 😂😂

      Anyway, yes it is still in the shipping container. I got scared of hurting it once I realized what had happened so I put in some water droplets and shut the top.

      @@courtneymoak8960 It was shipped in the enclosure? Okay, then I would definitely just leave it in there until it hardens up. It will likely take a couple of days. Just keep part of the substrate/moss moist.

    I bought a Phormictopus atrichomatus last spring as a confirmed female from a couple from Hungary. Unfortunatly ut moulted last summer and it looks like an subadult male to me. I am pretty sure it is a subadukt male. This is a shame becayse those people are respected. They said it must have been some mux up, but i dunno? Sucks. Too bad you live in USA. I know that you have a P atrichomatus female. I would really like to send it to you when it is mature male so you can breed it, but maybe it is to long to ship from Sweden? It is possible you think???
    Correction. It was a female, bit ut looked very male-ish! I was pretty sure it was male but i later saw spermatheca, so no bad thing about the hungarian couple!

    • @TomsBigSpiders
      @TomsBigSpiders  4 роки тому

      Awwwww...I'm so sorry to hear that. Ugh. Unfortunately, to legally ship to the US, it would cost me close to $1000 for the permits and fees. :(
