The Thailand Golden Fringe Tarantula, Ornithoctonus aureotibilias is a tarantula species native to Southern Thailand and is heavily soaked after in the pet trade. Luckily this species is relatively easy to breed in captivity and poaching of wild populations have decreased rapidly. The Thai Golden Fringe lives in deep burrows of about 30 to 40cm deep in the tropical rainforest at temperatures around 23 degree celsius inside its burrow. Make sure you provide a lot of substrate / soil when you keep this species in your collection, it would love to build a deep burrow as you've just saw in the video - with a nicely decorated entrance when you provide some leaf litter.

I just love how detailed your videos are Martin, heaps of information, habitat-wise, description, history, name origin, everything! The video quality is absolutely outstanding. Greatly appreciated, thank you for your dedicated, hard work! 🙂
cheers Adam! Great to read comments like this, keeps me motivated :)
@@birdspiders Happy to motivate you!! The hobby desperately needs thorough, scientific approach instead of heaps of common names and shallow husbandry, and you absolutely deliver professional and quality content, 100%. Keep it going Martin! 🙂
Thanks again Martin for giving us another look at a species in the wild. Keep em' coming. :)
thanks a lot! It is getting more difficult for sure :)
Adorable specimens!! So neat to see them in the wild. I’m showing my baby what she’ll look like when she’s older but I don’t think she sees. 😂

I had a Thailand black in the 90s
Simply gorgeous T
Great content really nice
thank you guys so much! :)
O.aureotibialis was the first asian species I ever bought. Really awesome to see specimen in their natural habitat. Keep up the great work with your channel! Imho you're doing an amazing job with showcasing the "natural" perspective on these animals compared to the regular "hobby"-perspective, that you normally see on tarantula-related youtube channels. Thx for all your hard work. Cheers!
thanks a lot for your nice comment, much appreciated :)

Beautiful tarantula I see your veiws are growing keep up the amazing work! Also if I could see any tarantula in the wild I’d like to see the tarantula it would be the one you described in your “Elephant tarantula” video. You said it hasn’t been seen in what? 100 years? Now that would be amazing.
Not a safe place to travel to sadly. cheers! Great to see people enjoy the content :)

Real Action at 7:10
where is this in Thailand? Is it in western Thailand?
Sorry! that comment was posted right before you said you're in the far southern part of Thailand!
Great "video", this is a tarantula for me, always wanted one that never moves.
so you expect a tarantula which runs around all day? They don't ;)
@@birdspiders You haven't seen my Brachypelma Vagans make 60 cm tunnel in one day. 😉 She's mental. 😁
I’m currently raising one. Lovely looking T even at1-1.5”
How is it looking these days? Fast grower?
Unfortunately mine passed way from a bad molt s couple months after leaving the original commo
@@0hopscotch0 😭
Are they fast growers? I can pick up some slings for cheap
quite quick yes
3:00 You totally forgotten about the Ornithoctonus sp malthai, A.K.A. the formerly known "Trapdoor haplopelma" which i currently have 2 slings in my care at the moment (Not fully grown yet), and i believe there are other Ornithoctonus species that are randomly showing up in the hobby especially in online T. vendors. Names such as Ornithoctonus sp. surat thani, Ornithoctonus sp. uthai thani, Ornithoctonus sp. laos ets.. Seems like it keeps going and going, but all are unsubscribed species at the moment unfortunately.
Exactly, bear in mind that there are certain species you mentioned in your list which don't belong into the genus Ornithoctonus, because they are labeled differently - as Ornithoctoninae. I know, just a few letters different but that means the belong to the subfamiliy of Ornithoctoninae but don't fit into any known genus - Ornithoctoninae sp. Laos (PdA) for example.
They are all undescribed and therefore did not get a mention in this video :) I appreciate your comment and enthusiasm, great to see people full of passion :)
That was an absolutely beautiful Huge female T!!! I want to see y’all find a Thailand black tarantula. They can be super mean tho 😂
I like how you pronounced scientific name.. fluently... sometimes... make my tongue twisted...
Looks like a mountain horned dragon
possible
I used to own that same species. I didn't realize they changed the species name. It used to be the Haplopelma Minax. I guess it shows how long I have been out of the tarantula collectors business. My favorite of all time. Very agressive and can sometimes injure themselves by being so agressive. I have had a few of these. Just a beautiful species. I need to get another one or maybe the Haplopelma Lividum. Thanks for the travel back in time. Are there any sellers that I can get one. I am in Northern BC Canada? Thanks
check out Tarantula Canada. If they cant sell you one, they know where you will find one :)
Thanks a bunch. I will call them.@@birdspiders
Can you search lyrognathus or selenocosmia species, because i that two is really outstanding to me specially lyrognathus giannisposatoi is a species new to the hobby
would be great to find them in the wild! They are named after a good fellow swiss friend of mine, Gianni Sposato - hence the name 👍
Cromatopelma cyanipobescen
I cant wait for mine to get bigger only a 1” sling atm
they grow pretty quick though 👍
Mine is taking it’s time. So hopefully it’s a female
