These super-easy, melt in your mouth cookies made with lots of almond meal and rolled in powdered sugar are a global favorite! Almost every culture has a variation and all are delicious!
Aliases include: Mexican wedding cookies, or polvorones, kourabiedes in Greece, Russian tea cakes, snowball cookies in parts of America, boomeranng cookies, and the list goes on! So delicious and they whip up in a snap. The cookies themselves are not very sweet so that heavy dusting of powdered sugar and just the right amount of sweetness.
I used almond meal in these cookies but you can use ground walnuts, or pecans and definitely feel free to have some larger chunks in there too.

I put those cookies in a bag of Powdered Sugar, and store them that way. They do great.
Omg, this are my grandma’s favorites cookies, we’re Mexicans and even here in Mexico I could not find a good recipe for this kind of cookies until this one, thank you so mucho, we love them, saludos desde Mexico 🇲🇽
My mom was Mexican and Dad was Greek. Love to hear that there are other Grexicans😂
One of the reasons these cookies are so widely known throughout different cultures are because of trade. When people would travel to new places they would often gift/trade with goods or recipes ☺️❤️❤️❤️
Also SO MUCH CONTENT. Prep levels are AT MAX and I'm living for it.
My mom was from Tennessee. When she made these she called them Dust Balls. She made them with finely chopped either pecan or walnuts. She would either roll them in powered when they were warm or she would let them cool completely, dip them in icing and roll them in coconut. My dad loved the coconut ones best.
In Puerto Rico, they called mantecaditos just add yellow color and sprinkles and also polvorones no color added but you leave them as is or do a thump print and add guava paste. Thanks for reminding me of the memories.
True story that these are known all over the world. I live in Hungary and we make them with ground walnuts in a crescent shape. Excellent!
Those cookies were introduced in Hungary by Austrians, and 250 years of Holly Roman Empire in Latin America brought them to the entire continent!
I use finely chopped pecans for my wedding cookies, or they are also called tea cakes. I form the cookies into balls and roll them in the powdered sugar twice. Soooo good. The almond meal sounds delicious too. Thanks, I am going to try those.
Me encantó tu receta! También les dicen “besos de nuez” // Loved your recipe! They are also called “pecan kisses”
I guess you're right about every culture. these are very like the Viennese Crescents I grew up with in my house. We used walnuts instead of almonds but otherwise the same. Sometimes I dip them in melted chocolate instead of powdered sugar.
I need to try this , in my city GTO. 🇲🇽 are made with pecans ❤️
De que parte de gto?
Saludos desde san Francisco del rincon, GTO
Yo soy de Durango y en mi vidaaaaa he escuchado de ellos
They're simply divine! I'm Greek too and my version is adding crushed, blanched - roasted almonds. The flavour is out of this world. Happy baking everyone 🌲
Oooh now I’ve been waiting for this!!! Cause my hubby is Mexican 🥰
I'm mexican and I never heard/ saw these cookies in a menxican wedding😄😄 Anyways, they are so delicious 😋
Thank you for the recipe
Polvorones are the yummiest. 😋Thank you for posting this!
I looove these! Thank you for the recipe and your always charming personality
Just when I thought I couldn't love this channel more! 😍😍😍 Great recipe!
Thank you. I have always wanted to make these. Love your videos.
I love these cookies!! I just made a batch over the New Years. My new way is to roll them out like regular cookie dough and make fun shapes with different cookie cutters. I could go for one right now with my cup of espresso :) I just picked up a bunch of organic flour to make your brownies but I may make myself a small batch of the Mexican Wedding Cookies! Have a wonderful day!
These are my best cookies during Christmas
Mexican and Greek wow cool. I used to make these when I was growing up. I'm Italian Memories 🙂

Si igual que yo soy mexicano y de Grecia 🥰🤗
@@zamitiz11 ☺️ Buena mezsclar
I'm Italian also and we use anise in ours and dipped then in a powder suger glaze with sprinkles.
Se ven ricas. Me fascinan tus recetas. En Puerto Rico le llamamos polvorones a otro tipo de galletas a base de manteca vegetal o mitad manteca con mitad mantequilla. Estas que tu muestras nunca las he intentado preparar, pero creo que serán las próximas que haga.
I just made them, OMG they are delicious!!❤️
Thank you for the recipe, It’s perfect!!!
Yayyy! We have these in Slovak cooking/baking too! We use walnuts :D My mom taught me and I made them for friends here in ATL. They were a huge hit!
I love these things! I'll make em for my office holiday party coming up.
I never get over how nice the kitchen looks... The handles and the cake stand collection are my favorite parts
Thank you for posting this recipe. Those cookies are one of my most favorite cookies I have ever eaten. I had no idea they were so easy to make. Growing up in the small town of Helper Utah our community had/has a lot of Greek's and Italian people. I love the food of both of them. But the Greek pastries are my most favorite of all.
My favorite at Christmas. You're right, crunch melt, crunch melt. Amazing little cookies.
My mom called these Bohemian Crescents. We made them every Christmas. We used walnuts. I made them with my daughter and now she makes them for her family. Feliz Navidad John & Family.
I love these cookies! Now, so you speak Spanish? Just learned your moms Mexican ☺️ she’s beautiful by the way!
@@PreppyKitchen Hi, this happen same to my daughters, they understand Spanish, but just barely use it, the old one knows to read Spanish to, but the pronunciation is hard for both.
My English is bad, so I'm learning from my daughters lol. 😆😆🇲🇽🇲🇽

Me gustan mucho estas galletas! Thanks!
These are absolutely the Best Recipe I have tried . I toasted the almond meal as you recommended and a definite game changer. Thank you so very much for sharing. 🥰❤️
Definitely gonna try this!!! 😍
I like to roll them into balls then flatten them into round discs...been making these for 30 years...for Christmas...I use finely minced walnuts, pecans or almonds....they are little bits of heaven on earth! Love watching you bake!
This recipe is so good!!! Thank you for sharing.
I am Mexican I wouldn’t never imagine you were half.. like you even more 😊😊❤❤
Love these! Our household always used pecans & the crescent shape. I will have to try the almond! Maybe start a new tradition...having both of course, lol.
Thanks for sharing such a recipe! I can't wait to try it! 😝
I make them with ground pecans ♥️♥️♥️
Great video! In our family we use pecans and do a second dip in the powdered sugar. Thanks for all you do!
John, Mom made these for us every Christmas season. We called them "Butter Balls". There are two differences between Mom's recipe and yours; she didn't add the almond flour (of course), And she only added 1/4 cup powdered sugar. " Really?". you may query. "Oh aye" I respond in my best Scottish accent. When it was my turn to make these, I thought I would raise the amount to 1/3 and it just didn't taste right.
This is what I think, when you use only 1/4 cup, the dough is very nearly savory, just a tish into the "sweet" spectrum. As a little girl, I didn't think it tasted at all palatable! But think about it. If you have a nearly savory ball of melt in your mouth goodness and you cover it with one of god's sweetest ingredients: Powdered sugar, you pop it into your mouth and are instantly hit with a powerful blast of sweetness, Then bite into the very nearly savory, melt-in-your-mouth taste of heaven, there are layered flavors here. The sugar immediately begins to blend with the baked balls. As you chew, the slowly blend into just the right amount of sweet to not out shine the butter and pecans and vanilla.
Anyway, I know you'll make them as you always have...as your mom made them. and you'd be right to. It's memories of every Christmas you've ever hda. You want to share them with your own sons and make new memories of your own. TRADITIONNNNN!!!.
Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year!
My Greek husband said you pronounced it perfectly. I'm definitely making these!!
These look amazing!!!! Can't wait to try them!!!! Thank you 😍

I just made these and they were awesome, thanks
I had a greek coworker who would bring these cookies in from a local greek bakery by him. I always inhale them up! They had tiny pieces of almond, or something kind of nut inside. So airy and not too sweet! I LOVE them!!
Can’t wait to try these! Mexican Hot Chocolate would be a great accompaniment. Can you do a video on that. Your mom must have a delicious recipe 😋 She’s adorable 💕💕💕
I am a gay Greek Mexican who LOOOOVES to cook. You have no idea how happy I am to have found you.
I knew a guy who had a Mexican mom and Greek dad. He was really cute when he was young. He looked like Johnny Depp when he was on 21 Jump Street.
The best of both combinations make this very attractive guy very present on my eyes a shame he is taken by the ring on his finger Woof!
no way.
Do you make videos?
@@alzapata6311 amen darlin, amen!!!
I am so happy to find out you're part Mexican! Loved your Tres Leches recipe (my deathbed cake) and would love to see your take on Chocoflan or Lime Maria
He is part Greek 🙄
@@rubimartin3051 if you watched the whole video, he said he’s both Mexican and Greek.
@@rubimartin3051 she didn't say anything for you to roll your eyes. She said "part".

In Germany we called them „Vanille Kipferl“ ( you can put an egg yolk in it ) and we put vanilla sugar in the powder sugar , my favorite Christmas cookies ! Love it and your channel

This are my favorite cookies since I was a toddler, I even have a picture eating this at my aunt wedding in Mexico ❤
Hi John , love your kourapiedes x
I do think the crescent shape of these go back to breads and sweets that were made for thousands of years to honor the Goddess and the shape remains in many cultures for this and makes me smile..
It is the shape of the Moon : )
Love it 🥰
Kourabiedes are my favorite cookie in the world! And you said it perfectly! Half Greek eh? I did not know. Love your recipes! You are a master! Thank you!
Those look good!
in my family we make these with pecans. me and my aunt used to bake these together all the time. it's what inspired me to go to culinary school.
These look amaaazing
Wonderful! My MIL called them moons. She was Italian. She put chopped pecans and shaped them into crescents.
Scottish..plain shortbread..in various shapes. No vanilla and no nuts.
Dude, I don't think you understand just how addictive you are, let alone your 'sweet' recipes.
Love your Chanel, I’m Mexican this are one of my family favorite cookies but I add walnuts and are súper deliciosas! Thank you for sharing 😊🎄
Your pronunciation is Greek is great. Well done! Crescent shape is traditional for kourambiedes. Yia sou!
We have something similar to this in Algeria, the difference is that the almond and sugar with Orange tree Flower water are put inside the dough which is made from flour , butter egg white and water...it's so delicious , the name in french is corne de gazelle
ps: excuse my english hhhh
Yummy! Thank you!
I Absolutely Love your channel. I have learned so much from watching you.
Yummy... Yummy..Excellent💗💖
My mom's recipe has chopped pecans in it. We call them snowball cookies. (And obviously just make the balls,) YUM! 😋
Made thses for second time. Everyone says them up lol yummy
This time I put cinnamon in powder sugar. Whisked it up. I split the mixture into two halves. One was almonds n walnuts roasted n crushed. Second half waasaby nuts roasted crushed. I coated them as soon as out of oven. Waited 10 min to put second coat on. They turned out rather well. Love your videos
Merry Christmas
Omg...!!!! Kourabiedes ??? I wasn't expecting you to be Greek 🇬🇷! I am excited...I love your videos. 💕
I have try a lot of your recipes!
P.S. You pronounce it perfect! Keep going!!! 😘😘😘 From Greece...
Say whattttttt? Mexican&Greek 😍👍🏼😍👍🏼😍 . That’s perfection right there! I love your work 💪🏽
In the Philippines we have them all year round. They really are just our primary cookie.
What I like about this recipe is that you don’t have to have walnuts, pecans, or almonds to make this recipe, making these for a dessert table very soon
These are my favorite cookies of all time. Those and Oreos.
I’m greek and yes these are amazing. We don’t use almond flour but we do add toasted crushed almonds. They are amazing. They last three weeks but usually they don’t last long especially going to see family during the holidays we all exchange some with each other. One tip I would suggest for you to try is melt the butter over low heat the day before and add it to a bowl covered with cellophane to cool in the fridge over night. Then on the day you make them take out the bowl to room temperature and remove the milk residue at the bottom. Pierce a hole in the middle and dump it out. It makes them even more soft. My mom uses a special Greek butter and margarine. Funniest thing is they break easily but she insist to fly them over when she visits at Christmas. It’s hilarious cause she gets so disappointed loo
Is this the besos de nuez?? I love ittt by the way I'm from Aguascalientes México ❤️❤️❤️
Vv guy
I just made them and yum! I love them like I knew I would! I used the modified version of the recipe that's on your site though so I might try this almond flour version as well!
Delicious 💯💯💯💯
Snowballs have always been my favorite Christmas cookie.
We have similar cookies in my country Libya, its name is "qrinat" translated "little horns" because it's crescent in shape, and horns also crescent

It's my favorite type of desserts
