Those action caused him to believe that he must help american because it's the only way to help his village to survive, since they'll get protection from US. On the other hand, he didn't help talibans because he believes that whether he helps talibans or not, his villagers will still randomly get killed by talibans in furthermore.

I wonder if Afghans like Gulab and the other armed villagers that protected Marcus could have been made into an effective local anti Taliban force. Of course it would come with the risk of weapons landing in the wrong arms and all that, but it may be more effective than arming an essentially corrupt central government where soldiers have little motivation. Imagine the power these villagers would have if they got large weapons from the US and had the ability to coordinate with the US airforce, it may have made the war more manageable and less US boots on the ground would be needed to achieve the same.

And you know very well that we pashtun will slughter you as we done with you in the past after when we pashtun defeated russia . And now we ll slughter you again . Muhammad gulab was a pashtun also he protect the american soldier because when he saw him he was in a bad condition almost closed to the death so muhammad gulab took marcey on him thats why he protect him and the reason why talibans/pashtun wasnot fought to the muhammad gulab because they have the same blood and same cast so the taliban knows well that muhammad gulab iss pashtun and he ia following now a pashtunwali . Thats why talibans were not talked to much with muhammad gulab ... and dont call your self afghan . Afghan means pashtun . You tajik uzbek turkmen hazaras were conquered in the past by pashtun/afghan so thats why you people are geographically in afghanistan but ethnically only the pashtun is afghan .

That has nothing to do with Islam. It has everything to do with being Pashtun first. The ones proclaiming Allah were the same ones chasing Luttrell. Gulab Sahib, the d kali mush'r, was being a proud Pashtun first and a Muslim second. I have been over there, and I have experienced both the effects of the hardcore Islamists and the hardcore Pashtuns. I prefer the second, frankly.

They didn’t kill dozens as Luttrell claimed, they got hammered by real warriors & didn’t have air support to rescue them as usual, they messed with the wrong people....those same people are now in charge & dictating the term to the Americans who ran away like thieves in the night, 4 “badass” special forces with night vision & satellite intel got humiliated by 7 mountain men with small arms....they’re elite image destroyed.
That’s what happens when they get contact from the enemy & no air strike is available to ‘soften’ the target before they go in ‘heroically’ kill the injured & discombobulated survivors of the aerial bombing....real tough guys?

This movie is THE hardest movie to watch. I’ve seen it 3 times and my heart was beating so fast I almost felt sick. And the end had me in tears. If these 2 people could come together in compassion and love then why can’t the rest of us? Come on humanity!

This story was amazing. To Mr. Luttrell, I hope you've found peace man. I know there are no words and nothing to say or do, but perhaps in this unique friendship you can now teach the world about compassion and not judging our fellow human beings too harshly upon first glance. May your brothers rest in God's arms until you all meet again.

it means giving protection to someone who comes to your home, no matter who he is, it also means to provide food and night shelter to travelers who come to you,
this code of honour, pashtunwali, is an everyday practice among Afghan pashtuns, i am pashtun and peace and love to everyone

That is what war dose to a lot of it's survivors. A lot of the time whether you live or die is luck.
The fact that non of the Taliban's ammo his any of his organs, Muhammad Gulab picking him up, loosing his comrades and him living is a combo of his SEAL training and random luck.
How ever survivors guilt is a natural way to feel in this kind of situation. Any one who has lost a friend(s) in combat deals with survivors guilt it's a fact of war.
