Aren’t the Colovians suppose to look more Northern European looking like having light or fair skin with blue or green eyes while the Nibenese people look Mediterranean or Southern European like having Olive skin? I believe the Colovians and the Nibenese culture and geography is suppose to be more similar to Northern Italian and southern Italian culture. The Colovians seem to be kinda inspired by the Northern Italians while the Nibenese culture seems to be inspired by Southern and Central Italian culture. The Colovians also have more of a Germanic Slavic Byzantine like cultures while the Nibenese have a more Greek Roman like culture which I see that inspiration from northern and southern Italian cultures
Finally, someone has pointed out the differences between the Colovians and Nibenese!!! So much more to, I wish a longer more in Depth look video could be done!!! Great job guys, maybe a Nibenese build in the future??? Cheers
guys, the reason they're using skyrim footage is because of exact same point he is making. There wasn't a distinct difference in looks or aesthetics in Oblivion and in skyrim you can achieve that look.
Project Tamriel promises to be closer to the original TES III vision, they're doing a great job so far, largely ignoring the later lore that was watered down into generic fantasy setting.
according to lore there are half breeds. Altough we can see half bred children in skyrim (half imperial half nord or half nord half redguard) we the player can't be one. It is also possible for men and mer to interbreed (f.e: the Orc champion of the imperial city arena is half orc half imperial) but we also can't be half man half mer altough it would be cool. (well bretons have mer blood but they still look morr human. it would be good if in the next game you could set your parents' ethnicities and that would give a preset that you could customize any way you want.
Windra dyne yeah you can customize but for example having a imperial redguard mix the kid would have both parents special skills and such only a reduced a bit so it's not too op. you can't so that if you just customize and also the world will still react to you as a breton
But the actual lore is that the child of an interracial relationship inherits the mothers race. Colovians are Imperial, but they are Nordic half breed in a sense.
Windra dyne I suppose that's true but keep in mind that the arena champion orc had a much lighter skin tone that is very unlikely in normal orcs so even if the majority of the people in tamriel think that half breds inherit their mother's racial features that doesn't mean that's true.(even if it's in the lore) so that could mean they did inherit some skills from their father even if those skills quite small or weak. back in ancient Europe when people found a skeleton of a dinosaur they marked it as a demon or monster (even a dragon for example) many hundreds of years had to pass until people realized that they are not the bones of mythical creatures but something else. what i'm trying to say is maybe the people of Tamriel think sonething about a certain topic and write about those things in their books but that doesn't make them true
One thing I personally liked is that a lot of Imperials in the Nibenese region had more Roman/Byzantine or outright fantastical names, while there were a lot of Colovians who had names that'd fit in the Holy Roman Empire or in Eastern Europe.
I always got the impression the two factions in the Imperials was supposed to be like the Roman empire when Rome and Constantinople were competing with each other.
I'm seeing a sort of confusion of what the Slavic elements are that are found in Cyrodil so I just wanted to comment. skinGRAD -- Grad means either city or fortification CYRodil -- Cyr is a form of the word for heart. Cyrodil is the middle of Tamriel, ie its heart. The area around the IC is called the Heartlands. Names ending in IC/ICH and AV (Ov) -- typical for South Slavs. RiSLAV Larich -- Rislav the Righteous, was a former King of Skingrad, he wore klibanion, which is the name of a Byzantine cuirass. Many south Slavs were in the Byzantine Empire. Colovia -- a part of Cyrodil that reminds me and sounds like Moravia in The Czech Republic, look up Architecture in Moravia Kvatch - Kvatch sounds like a Slavic word Architecture -- the non-Roman influence, I mean if you look at the houses in cities like Leyawiin, they remind of me how the Balkans built their houses in the Ottoman Empire since you only had to pay for the first floor square space with regards to taxes
One of things that fascinated me the most about Morrowind were the Daedric cities. There weren't just shrines like Oblivion, they were actual cities and temples. Could you do a video about who maybe built them? Why they're in ruins? Did the Daedra tell them to build them a certain way? Do lesser Daedra still inhabit them? So many questions.
I consider Colovians to be somewhere between Mongols and Slavic since most of Cyrodil had a slight tinge of asian influence, but only a smidge Nibenese I usually chalk up to South-Asian/India with a good chunk of some jungle dwelling cultures, which makes sense, as it was... y'know.... a jungle

Mate, my first Elder Scrolls was Arena. I don't think you can call me a "casual Skyrim baby who doesn't understand how real RPGs work". You're just a triggered fanboy.
pre-Oblivion the Lore said that the Imperial province was a lush jungle with red rivers and sea serpents, with politcal maneuverings by the Septim heirs over their aging father. What we got was a generic, monstrously deformed epic-demonz-quest with the least immersive, smallest, shittiest world that Bethseda has ever created.
I really love the generic fantasy of Oblivion. There are plenty of provinces that can be alien and distinct, but it's just nice that there is at least one province in the form of Cyrodiil (and probably High Rock as well) that is King Arthur style fantasy. But they should still have paid more attention to the minor lore rather than ignoring a lot of it. Such as how Blackwood is supposed to be a swampy area.
It would have been nice to see all of these unique cultural divisions in Oblivion instead of what we got. Like with the Nords you have the fierece viking warriors, with the Bretons you have these really powerful mages with a lot of elven descent, and then the imperials are just kind of... there. Over then the fact that they conquered/united all of Tamriel there really isn't that much interesting about them. Seeing this rivalry between cultures would have definitely added some flavor to their otherwise somewhat boring society.
My first Elder Scroll game was Morrowind even though I was 12 when I played it im 18 now but I played as a Imperial from day one I now Role play as a Colovian Imperial in Skyrim and ESO
I would've loved to get more of the nibeneans' culture into the games. I think the colovians got a little more love in the game, but still not enough. Regardless, Nibenay is where the interesting stuff would be.
One thing that pisses me off about this series is things get stripped out. The lore is one such example. Compare the Impreials of the older games to Oblivion. You'd notice the most interesting of their lore are removed in Oblivion. Hell Cyrodiil itself regressed from how it was originally portrayed. Skyrim has the same problem with the province and the Nords. Skyrim made me hate the Nords. Oblivion made the Impreials token roman knockoffs. Bethesda utilize your lore. Instead of removing it and pointing to the dragon break. As a crutch to explain it away. It doesn't make it any better.
As someone who started with Oblivion, who really wanted more to it even though I love it, I would have liked to see this inter-race rivalry, too - but maybe at the time they thought that a more generic fantasy setting would draw in more new players...
It's adressed in the 3rd Edition of the Pocket Guide to the Empire like so: "Under the Emperor Reman I, Cyrodiil became truly cosmopolitan, incorporating aspects of High Rock, Colovia, Nibenay, and the sophisticated if strange culture of the defeated Akaviri into a common whole." So it isn't an asspull, just really bad writing on Bethesda's part that undermines the better sides of Cyrodiil.
I feel the same way about Skyrim. While I had played Morrwind before, I'd still say that Skyrim was the first Elder Scrolls game I got into. I thought it was really cool, and then I learned there was a massive amount of lore they didn't include in the game that would've made it way cooler. Not sad about missing tongue belts though; that would've been gross no matter the resolution.
timemadscientist Greatscot! not likely since each ES game was released no less than 5 years after its predecessor.and morrowind to oblivion was one of the longest.
If I remember it correctly...I believe you could see the differences in the buildings of each city (like the color the houses had in Nebenese cities like Cheydinhal and Colovian cities like Chorrol)
a bit late to the party but the colovians vs nibenese is very similar to the city dunmer and the ashlander dunmer dynamic in Morrowind, for once in my life I wish the lord of the rings movies to not have existed, maybe todd would have had to actually look at previous game lore to design the game
I think of them like the Ancient Roman and Holy Roman Empire: The Nibenese are more cultured and they actually developed most parts of the Imperial culture. The Colovians are rougher and their culture is more nordic and feudal than that of the Nibenese.
Since the Colovians only worshipped Eight Divines, i think the Colovians are equivalent to Eastern Europeans. Why? Because Eastern Europeans were Orthodox Christians. They still worshipped the True ways of Christianity. Just like the Colovians. Eight Divines are equivalent to Orthodox Christian.
Well, the city names of Kvatch and SkinGRAD (Grad / Gorod = meaning city in many slavic languages) are definitely sounds slavic. But Colovian citys and climate in Oblivion looks more like South France and Spain (Anvil).
mutegrab666 No I mean like it would’ve made perfect sense if they would’ve just said that the two different factions for fighting over the throne before The elves showed up
This actually ties in with my alternative and somewhat better version of ESO, although honestly, what ISN'T better than that story. 70% of the game would be in Cyrodiil, during the aftermath of the Oblivion Crisis, the stormcrown Interregnum. Cyrodiil would be split into three factions. The Colovians (Bruma and Chorrol) The Nibenese (Leyawin, Bravil and Cheydinhal) and the Gold Coast Navy (Anvil, Kvatch, and Skingrad). Each faction's main quest would revolve around going into other countries of the Empire to gain support, so the Colovians would go to Skyrim and High Rock, Gold Coast would go to Hammerfell, and Nibenese to solid Black Marsh and what's left of mainland Morrowind. Aldmeri Dominion territory would be blocked off. When your player reaches level X, whatever the level cap is, you could make a corresponding Legacy hero. Essentially a race-locked character that would be a descendant of your other character. You could still play your other one, and even mark certain items you have as Heirlooms so you could copy then one-way to your legacy. Your legacy would be fighting in the Great war, either for the Empire or Dominion. Dunmer and argonians would have free choice, everyone else would be set into a side by their race, no exceptions.
Well I will say I agree the differences between colovians and nibenese could have been better but I wouldn't necessarily say they got it wrong 1) there are a few NPCs that say things like oh only thieves and undesirables live in the colovian heights so there is a little bit of what you are talking just not near immersive. 2 ) there is a major crisis going on most are afraid that the deadra will sack the cities they are in so I doubt the colovians are to worried about what the nibenese are doing.
Ugh! Bethesda is the only company that I can think of that created a very unique fantasy setting with incredible lore of the histories, peoples, nations, gods and locations, that NEVER use any of it in the main format (the games) that the universe was made for!
Bethesda has been quite lackluster lately when it comes to implementing the lore into it's gameplay. Todd represented Morrowind's and the Dunmer lore very well. Ever since then, not much thought and effort has gone into arguably the best aspect of Elder Scrolls games; it's lore.
How about a middle ground where weapons become dull and then you have to re-sharpen them, but they are still usable while dull. Armour could be damaged but still wearable.
When people view imperial culture and compare it to the Roman Empire I completely disagree unless it’s their Legions. Their culture and government represent the germanic Holy Roman Empire much more.
Is it just me that finds it weird and kind of ironic that the Nibenese wear more extravagant clothing but originate from such shitpits as Bravil and Leyawiin?

How is Leyawiin possibly a shitpit?

You'd notice the most interesting of their lore are removed in Oblivion. Hell Cyrodiil itself regressed from how it was originally portrayed. Skyrim has the same problem with the province and the Nords. Skyrim made me hate the Nords. Oblivion made the Impreials token roman knockoffs. Bethesda utilize your lore. Instead of removing it and pointing to the dragon break. As a crutch to explain it away. It doesn't make it any better.

I am a little bit of a new one of the planes today
As someone who started with Oblivion, who really wanted more to it even though I love it, I would have liked to see this inter-race rivalry, too - but maybe at the time they thought that a more generic fantasy setting would draw in more new players...
No, it's okay though, because by the time of Oblivion *insert lore asspull here*
It's adressed in the 3rd Edition of the Pocket Guide to the Empire like so: "Under the Emperor Reman I, Cyrodiil became truly cosmopolitan, incorporating aspects of High Rock, Colovia, Nibenay, and the sophisticated if strange culture of the defeated Akaviri into a common whole."
So it isn't an asspull, just really bad writing on Bethesda's part that undermines the better sides of Cyrodiil.
I started with marrowind I was 19 I feel old now
Excellent video.
So very true. I wonder if this was excluded due to time or budget restraints.
timemadscientist Greatscot!
not likely since each ES game was released no less than 5 years after its predecessor.and morrowind to oblivion was one of the longest.
This is exactly why Bethesda won't make different Khajiit types if they make a TES Elsywer
For Colovinben, I mean Cyrodiil!
are there any mods that work on the subject?
Colovia, rolling hills and fields and forrests.
Nibin, Swamp.
Hmmm
If I remember it correctly...I believe you could see the differences in the buildings of each city (like the color the houses had in Nebenese cities like Cheydinhal and Colovian cities like Chorrol)
Let's talk about oblivion (Shows nothing but skyrim footage) Of course just like every other Video
Matt Townsend are you a dark elf lover? get out of our city you filthy piece of trash!!!
a bit late to the party but the colovians vs nibenese is very similar to the city dunmer and the ashlander dunmer dynamic in Morrowind, for once in my life I wish the lord of the rings movies to not have existed, maybe todd would have had to actually look at previous game lore to design the game
I think of them like the Ancient Roman and Holy Roman Empire:
The Nibenese are more cultured and they actually developed most parts of the Imperial culture.
Would’ve been cool if they added that in the cultural divide of the imperials into the lore as a reason the empire lost against the The war
Colovians, the imperial Legion. Nibenese, the Battlemages.
mutegrab666 No I mean like it would’ve made perfect sense if they would’ve just said that the two different factions for fighting over the throne before The elves showed up
Yeah totally agree. Bethesda, don't streamline the lore. The uniqueness of the Elder Scrolls lore is what makes it so damn interesting.
Bruma is Nibenean, not Colovian. Probably why the Nords there aren't too fond of the local heartlanders.
What clothing mod is this
"ahem" Eight? There are Nine.
Not before Tiber Septim, and certainly not after you live in a province heavily garrisoned by Thalmor either.
@@Nich011 there was Ebonarm before Talos
@@meatycitadel Ebonarm?
@@AetherTheGenshin I forgot Ebonarm is a local deity
What Skyrim clothing mod is that?
Colovian Noble Clothes, available for Skyrim and Skyrim SE
Thank you!
I'm not saying Colovians are dumb, they're just hard headed.
I still enjoyed it.
Really cool video! =D
I always saw the Roman Imperials as the part of society that has melted in unity the most. Granted not completely.
You should speak to the people working on Skyblivion. Tell them to include this lore in their remake.
Vincent Hitchin yes. that would be awsome.
I think for the next game they should have a realistic mode so swords and armour can break like oblivion but an other mode like skyrims
How about a middle ground where weapons become dull and then you have to re-sharpen them, but they are still usable while dull. Armour could be damaged but still wearable.
To be fair I attribute things like this to Bethesda's own lore being to deep to properly portray in-game.
Why not Oblivion footage that goes with your narrative?
Talks about Oblivion.
Shows Skyrim.
Actually, could we see a TES VI video on the morality/fame/infamy like in Oblivion?
Bethesda has admitted that they could have done better when it came to Colovian and Nibenese cultural differences
When people view imperial culture and compare it to the Roman Empire I completely disagree unless it’s their Legions. Their culture and government represent the germanic Holy Roman Empire much more.
in Oblivion wouldn't be the nine divine's because of in Bravil there a Chapel for Talos
I would like to see a video about inter-race cross breeding. Maybe also discuss Agronak gro-Malog... Was he alive or???
Colovians go rough and Nibenese ease into it
