    Every brooding video I have ever seen, they used the plastic tubs and the chicks did just fine and it was less messy than cardboard.

      My dad is a mechanic and he has heated flooring in the room he paints the cars. I'm going to ask him If I can borrow the room for a couple weeks. do you think I would still need a heat bulb? (also I'll make sure there are NO paint fumes in the room.)

    • @elizahansen7098
      @elizahansen7098 4 роки тому +2

      It depends on the temperature, if it can reach 97 degrees, you should be fine, as long as you can regulate the temp. And also make sure the your chicks can get off of it if they get too hot. If you can't do those things, I would recommend JUST the heat lamp. Make sure too do a lot of research though before getting chickens.😊😉

      One more thing, make sure it is warm in that room too, if it is cold outside the brooder, it will be cold inside the brooder if you just have the heated floor. So if it does get cold in that room, I recommend a heat lamp just in case.😉

      @@elizahansen7098 turns out my dad said I can't use that room because the cat likes to sleep in there. he talked with my mom and they were thinking the small garage closer to the house so we can watch them better. I'll talk with him about going out and getting a heat lamp. I just want the brooder to be ready before they get here(end of the month)

      This is my first time getting chicks while having a say in what breeds we're getting and where to put them. 3 years ago I got chicks and just listened to what my mom said to do lol. 🐔🐓

    Heat lamps are only about $12.00!! And the special heat lamp bulb is VERY IMPORTANT- they use infrared heat which gets down to the tissues- unlike a regular bulb, that will get hot- but will only get surfaces warm, & they can't warm the chick into it's body- and regular bulbs are a FIRE HAZARD- for God sakes if you can't afford a heat lamp and bulb, don't bother getting any baby chicks or else you will lose them. Sure the heat lamp bulbs cost a lot compared to regular light bulbs- but they're cheap in in the long run. A "warm room" is no guarantee- and does it get to, and STAY at 100F? does it have an area the chicks can go to cool off if they want?? the brooder warmers or heat lamps/any warming thing used specifically for brooder chicks is the only real way to go. I do not work for, or know any one at Cackle or anything like that- I am speaking from experience! no heat lamp or brooder heater? then DON'T get any baby chicks.
