    I recieved my first baby chicks ever. I ordered 5 bantam chicks and you guys sent me 7. Unfortunately through my own stupidity I lost two. I used the heat pad on the first day and lost two beautiful chicks. I should have watched these videos first. I am much more informed for when my next batch comes in April. Thank you guys God bless

    For guinea fowl, there are no shavings, just newspapers or paper towels as the bedding. :)

    Incandescent bulbs are illegal. Compact Fluorescent don't get as hot. What would you recommend for heat and light?

      Krish Vishwanath yes, but pine chips are ideal because the paper can be very slippery when the chickens crap in it

    I purchased 30 pullets that I received Friday feb 5th. Saturday feb 6th, all the chicks were dead in the brooder box. We've had a hundred or so chicks in the same brooder with the same exact setup since then and we've only lost probably 3 chicks. I exchanged a couple emails with crackle hatchery then they stopped responding. over $100 down the drain. apparently something was wrong with the chicks they sent me. I'm sure they run a respectable business but they made no effort to make good on my situation. I would never buy chicks from them again.

    I tried using shredded newspapers but those newspapers get sticky and slippery very quickly..so I don't think they are good- neither from hygiene/health point of view for the chicks nor from the cleanliness aspect.

      Buy a heat lamp for reptiles/heating a bathroom. They still exist in that form. (note that heatlamps could probably be much farther away from the floor of the enclosure)

      Yawar Sohail it's a brooder not a broiler ........he assumes a level of common sense greater than or equal to a wedge of cheese. Sorry if that ruled you out 😂

    Don't use a regular bulb! It makes them want to peck eachother. The best kind to use is a red heat bulb and don't use warm water, set your brooder up 24 hrs before the chicks arrive so the water is at room temp

      late to the party, but I often use this term as well, as a week old chick is different from a baby chick fresh out of the egg.

    • @jerignacio2214
      @jerignacio2214 7 років тому

      Lol true. Chicks are baby chickens
      4 weeks old up they're called cockerels
      6 months up stags and pullets
      11 months up Bullstag Bullhen
      1 year and 2 months they're called cocks or hens.

    Baby chicks is redundant....

    • @FrogHairsPond
      @FrogHairsPond 7 років тому +1

      People being grammar Nazis is beyond redundant your pic is a chick in today's world baby is used for clarity in 1900s the word chick was only used for baby chickens. that is not the case with today's world tho so a bit of clarity is ok here
