I'm a vegetarian and recently I watched a video showing how certain supermarket chains treat the animals they farm (specifically chicks). Or at least how an extension of them treats them very badly. For the sake of profit. Broke my heart. Can't eat eggs anymore. Until I farm them just like this. How much care and consideration; it was a pleasure to watch.
Great comment...now hear me out a bit.... let's look at the reality. Supermarkets don't raise chickens....chicken companies raise chickens and sell to supermarkets. There are a million different videos out there depicting the horror of cruel animal handling practice....these are agenda based documentaries meant to discust us into thinking that all chicken operation are horrible and cruel....I assure you they are not. You should see my video on how a hatchery works and how a commercial chicken house works...it's pretty amazing and not cruel at all. I'm glad ya enjoyed the video...I care deeply for my animals for sure. They live the best life possible with one bad moment...we should all be so blessed
I just ordered my first 10 chicks. I’ll pick them up at the and of April from a local chicken farmer. You make it simple and easy to understand without a whole lot of stress. Thank you so much for these videos! I’m going to need all the help I can get!
Thank you so much my parents say im not responsible so i made a deal to raise a baby chick by myself since baby chicks had already hatched in our back yard. Thank you for these tips! ❤
My Dad bought chicks every year at Easter. I took care of the chicks. My Dad built a coop outside that had a cover on it. It was a stationary coop. After they got out there dad cleaned and put new straw out and meal worms and I fed them sratche food and oyster shells when they were able to start laying. I loved that job. My first school skirts were Chicken Feed sacks, they used to use material for the bags of feed.
I watched many videos and 5 weeks ago got the supplies and 15 chicks. Now I am on my second set of 15 (and 6 turkey). Thank you for your time and videos!
Bethany Knecht what ended up happening to the chick when you dropped it? I was thinking about getting a baby chick, but never held one. I have 3 bunnies and 2 dogs lol
It also helps if you put place a cardboard or two under your food and waterer to avoid food and bedding from getting into them. My grandma and grandpa had a regular brooder house for all the chicks when they first came (in Wisconsin) with a door that opened to the outside where they had put up snow fence to allow the chicks outside when old enough, but too young to join the regular flock. I used large marbles in my waterers to keep the little one from drowning. Have had chickens, guineas, turkeys, ducks, geese and even a 1993 Great Flood Rescue pair of Pheasants from a family in the Mo Bottoms area between the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. The kids were in 4-H back then and my son had the Grand Champion Market Bird Champion that year! Been involved with the birds since I was 1.5 years old with my Grandma and still have them today 66 years later!
I always wanted to raise colorful chicks in my childhood but no one let me cuz they die so quickly and today I bought my younger sister 4 chicks and she is so happy!! Watching this video so I could help my sis to raise those cutiesssss!!!
I'm new to this and I recently bought 150 chicks🤦🏾 and when they got delivered I realised I had grossly underestimated the space they would occupy and had to improvise a hatchery for them where I put all of them... It's been 3 rough days since I noticed they are climbing on top of each other and nearly killing some(I've already lost 4😢) so I've been spending an unhealthy amount of time with them making sure more don't die(I've slept for like a total of 7hrs in those 3 days😅)... I've also been researching trying to learn more and now I'm thinking of separating them or something but I haven't quite figured it out yet. Thank for the video. God bless you
go buy another brooder .....it's not that complicated.....split the flock into 2 brooders. Give them the space they need.....and you didn't improvise a hatchery....you're setting up a brooder...please go spend the money to outfit the chicks appropriately...losing 4 out of 150 isn't abnormal at all...it's completely normal to lose 5% -10%
Thanks for the video, perfect timing! We might be getting our first set of child chicks first week in March! Really recognize all your videos, we've got were given learned masses!
Nice video! I hatched out and raised thousands of chicks and I would always lose a few in the brooder. I finally found that a little oxytetracycline in the water does wonders, brings the losses down to zero! They only need that the first couple weeks then they are good to go.
From what I have learned and heard is, if your birds start to become aggressive to one another, you can simply change to a red light. I know the experiment was done with turkeys, but I would think it would also work for chicks too
Thanks for the video, perfect timing! We will be getting our first set of baby chicks first week in March! Really appreciate all of your videos, we have learned a lot!
That's what we did last year. Watched the videos and bought out first chicks. It was so nice to see an updated video and giving us exposure to other hatcheries

We are getting 25 Red Star chicks from Murray McMurray tomorrow. We followed your tips on the set up! Woooooo! My 8 year old does our videos because he wants to be like you! He is gonna do a brooder video this week......Keep up the good work!
Thanks buddy. Picking my chicks up tomorrow. We are excited after working several weeks on the chicken coop outside. But our babies will stay in the house until ready.

Thank you for this, i just got little baby chicks and they are SUUUUPER cute! Also there are 2 black ones and thats it, we might get more this spring. Also we could make a farm if my mom and dad buy some land in the fields from another person. I Love my chicks
Thanks for the advice. I've raised chicks before, but not more than 20 at a time. Now I hopefully have close to 75 on the way, depending on how many of the eggs hatch.
I hang my water and feeder, my chicks will climb onto and poop on anything they can. Some water & feed dispensers are prone to the birds knocking / splashing the water out

My chicks are so cute, I’m so happy to have them and learn more about it then
I heard my chickens chirping in my bathroom and wanted to make sure I knew how to raise a chicken lol
Thank you very much for your teachings. God bless you.
Awesome. Mine come first week in April. I’m documenting it on UA-cam too.
Thank you!! Getting our first baby chicks today!!
Great explanation and video for starting something like this, thanks Josh. Good luck with the chicks!
I really love this video and I would like to ask how to cure the sores which appear on their beak or mouth. My chicks are dying
Thank you for this, i just got little baby chicks and they are SUUUUPER cute! Also there are 2 black ones and thats it, we might get more this spring. Also we could make a farm if my mom and dad buy some land in the fields from another person. I
Love my chicks
We have raised a lot of chicks we also wanted to raise peacocks but our feed store sad they don’t survive the trip up here to Kenai Alaska
Have you tried just getting the eggs and hatching them yourselves?
Love it always good too see animals treated with respect and love
Thanks for the advice.
I've raised chicks before, but not more than 20 at a time.
Now I hopefully have close to 75 on the way, depending on how many of the eggs hatch.
@Reuben In your opinion, what's the best coop design for first-timers getting 27 chicks?
Thank you for sharing. We have a broody hen but we are hoping they won’t be too cold. Thanks
You’re so awesome! Like watching a grown up Mr. Rogers show. 👍😊😉🌟
bhahhaha..I'm flattered
Thank you - just easy common sense - but from your long experience. I have some eggs in an incubator and will use your methods once they have hatched.
Nice video. Raise your water up on a brick to keep the shavings out.
I hang my water and feeder, my chicks will climb onto and poop on anything they can.
Some water & feed dispensers are prone to the birds knocking / splashing the water out
New to keeping chickens. Just got our first chicks yesterday. Very informative video. Thank you for sharing.
My McMurray order is supposed to be coming on April 6th. Very excited!
Take good care of them
