I use a childs Pack N Play & a Producers Pride brooder/heat plate. Holds a lot of chicks, very easy to clean, & stores well(very little space) when not in use. I use an old baby gate on top when they start to be able to jump out.
I have an idea on a series you could make that would help thousands of people. Try maximizing a 2 acre plot with chickens, pigs and 1 cow ( if possible ). A plot the size of a football field and try maximizing it production. I know multiple people that watch this show and have between 2 to 3 acres. Maybe it'll be fun for you to try to achieve it and would help thousands of people.
I am getting 3. Only because the farm store has a minimum. Looking to make them pets as they graze for bugs and eat table scraps. Also the fertilizer will be a big help.
I got some new chicks this year from Tractor Supply, they are called Wellrunner, a dual purpose breed, but trying to reseach them online...no information!
What will you do with them after about 4 weeks? My 13 5-week olds are coming out of the refrigerator box. It is covered, though. The sparring is getting old.
Thanks Chuck for all your knowledge...one question...how much apple cider vinegar are you putting into the drinker...you said not to much but how much is not to much...lol...thank you!!!
@@jamesw.3491 Thank you...I'm wanting to take the plunge and do this but I don't want any wrongful harm done because of the lack of not knowing on my part...I appreciate all helpful knowledge...

I have 14 Barred Rock pullets in my bedroom lol! Bought them from Cackle Hatchery and everyone arrived in 2 days safe and sound!
I love Cackle Hatchery!! I've only ordered from them and McMurray's.

Do you have a link for who you get your Heat lamps that you use.
What is the temperature they need to have when you first bring them home
What kind of heat lamp are you using?
When can I begin to feed 10% dried or fresh greens to my Day 1-Day 56 chicks?
What kind of lights are those?
👍
Does anyone know if Ross is a decent layer breed?

We’ll move them into a small portable coop and let them get some age and size on them before they eventually go in with the big birds.
Do you need probiotics for the water?
In VA, where I live we can have 6 female chicks.
