You’re right. And that’s on our joke of a federation and the nepotism of hiring at best a mid MLS manager who’s never really been successful at any level to have a resume for a NT manager. Berhalter’s teams at any level never look goal dangerous, his “system” is rigid and predictable, and doesn’t match the player pool. It’s so bad, and it was bad in the last WC as well. They played one good game against England, and Berhalter’s mentor Southgate who apparently has taught Berhalter how to under achieve with good players.
It’s also a systemic problem under Gregg. 3 red cards in a calendar year. The players don’t respect him they know they’re all just buddies. Inexcusable.
The players that the USMNT have at their disposal and the results seen is pretty shocking… This team should be, arguably, one of the top 5/6 teams at this tournament - they could rival many with the players they’ve got available but coaching is diabolically regressive.
You say Chris Richards of Crystal Palace is not the same as Chris Richards as USMNT. Same type of conversations are happening over with England. Coaching truly truly TRULY matters that much. The fact that if they fire him on Tuesday following a loss should also be the end of the person or people who rehired him in the first place.
You are 100% correct. But USSF is a joke, and run by people as incompetent as Berhalter. I need to look at what the structure really is, but until that dumpster fire is resolved, I have 0 confidence that even if they fire Berhalter, they’ll make a better choice. But you know, they’re paying everyone equal so why should performance matter?
Many USMNT coaches before Berhalter did something out of nothing. Berhalter is doing the exact opposite with the best group of talented players we've ever had. Sad isn't?
The only silver lining is that it puts USA in a position of NOT making it out of the group which would certainly lead to Berhalter being fired. No idea who should take over but ANYONE is better than Gregg.
Although this is our best generation, the reality is we are just not that good. Could be coaching, could be the players when they play for the national team. Regardless we’re not that good compared to the rest of teams out there
@@wizarddragon i think it’s mainly coaching too. A better coach could do a lot better with these players we have now. I also think big picture wise this team is just ok. Good pieces but realistically nothing great
Coaches devise strategies and formations to get the most out of the players available to them. International teams, unlike club teams, cannot go out and buy players. They have to find ways to get the most out of what they have. This is the most talented player pool that the USMNT has ever had, and the coach that USSF hired has failed for 5+ years to find a way to use his players effectively. He's used the exact same formation, made nearly zero changes to the starting XI or the 23-26 players in the A-squad. And yet some fans and the US media are still shocked that this team has not produced any results or shown any improvement in 5 years. Gregg is 70% to blame for where we are. USSF is 15% to blame for hiring GGG and then re-hiring him for a 2nd cycle. The players own the last 15% of blame....as No-One has stepped up and become an actual leader amongst this group. Many of the players advocated for GGG's re-hire, have failed to correct GGG's poor tactics (in game) when it's clear they aren't working, and have failed to learn from their mistakes or hold players accountable for their mistakes (McKennie, Dest, and now Weah).
Bad news Panamá at that game were missing two of it main defense players, it's captain Godoy, one of it replacement Stryker, one of its defence replacement, Jose Luis Rodriguez one of its main offensive figure as well as ismael Díaz another of it main offensive figure. Usmnt could not beat a Panamanian team with 5 main players and two important replacement...
Gregg will not be fired if we are grouped. If the USSF cared about results and winning they wouldn't have rehired him to begin with. The best we can hope for is a redemption tour in 2030 with a new manager but we never know, the USSF may rehire Gregg for a 3rd cycle.
3G should have never been re-hired in the first place. Is he going to be fired? He should but that does not mean he will. 3G's brother and his cronies in the US Soccer federation will do anything possible to keep him around, regardless of results or getting grouped in Copa America.
This is on Weah and GGG, his subs were wrong. CCV should not have played, musah not Johnny should have played. Flo should have stayed and pepi didn't show up
I am so mad that Zimmerman and Cremaschi did not call for the national team for Copa America. We need Zimmerman and Cremaschi asap. These two stars are fun to watch and fearless.
Lalas all over the place now all the sudden he’s calling out Berhalter demanded more from Him. I like his commentary but he goes back and forth on his stance regarding the coach. I would honestly like to see Dempsey in some form of role for this organization
If USMNT will lose more games, no one will watch football/soccer because people like to see winners. If USMNT will not do well in World Cup, football/soccer will never be popular in USA like NFL or NBA. In the long run this could lead to MLS cancellation.
Mexico's worst team in recent history lost to Venezuela, but the USA's best team to lose against Panama? Only way Greg can salvage this fiasco is by winning against Uruguay.
Absolutely love how our Golden Generations of US players got there A$$ handed to them by team full of MLS players. Pulisic makes more money then the entire Panama club salaries combined.
The difference between 2014 and THIS? The coach. Klinsmann got the best out of the 2014 WC team. They were inches away from tying the Belgium team that became feared in Europe.
Bringing back Berhalter was an idiotic move by a non existent USSF. Even when they do fire him, does anyone in corporate know what their doing ? That being said, the loss falls squarely on Weah. This should be his last appearance in our colors.
100% correct. GB is the problem. Not the coach that will get the most out of this team. Behind GB is the cronyism in USMNT that rehired GB. More than GB have to go and that unfortunately is not likely to happen.
According to McBride on his podcast with Davies AND on his Kickin’ It interview with the Goddess that is Kate Abdo lol, he stated theres no way Gregg is gone even if he fails out of Copa. And he knows Gregg and Jay on a personal level.
Weah was the biggest problem this specific game Second biggest was the ref. Sending Weah off was totally justified, but Panama shoulda been down a man or two as well for much of that game. They were doing so much stuff that wasn’t anything like a football play and there were no repercussions So this specific game Berhalter was only my 3rd biggest villain, that said he’s been a problem for his whole tenure. He absolutely should be gone. He does nothing to make the team better and if our “hopeful” scenario is getting knocked out in the quarter finals in our own region how in the world can you imagine expect to compete in a World Cup. Much less with the reality of us not even getting out of the group in our own region.
Look, as an Argentine-American I have to say man, this sucks ass. Seeing people set bare minimum expectations, the team failing to meet them and for some reason people continue to back GGG is crazy. If this was Argentina the majority of people wouldn’t be as civil as everyone here and (imo) that’s one of the reasons Argentina is so good internationally now and in the past. Don’t be afraid to be intense, to get passionate and to be an asshole, because nice guys never win shit. And sadly, that’s what Berhalter is, a nice guy who is friends with his players and knows a little bit about soccer. The USA should easily be beating Bolivia, but they struggled. Pundits are saying it’s Tim Weah’s fault for the loss against Panama but it’s the coaches job to make sure his team is disciplined. It’s the coaches job to make sure the US doesn’t get punched in the mouth and that’s exactly where Berhalter failed. It’s time for a change. Bringing him back was a HORRIBLE decision and I’ve been saying it from day one. Hopefully USSF can make a change that’s actually positive for once.
Greggs had this team for 6 years now and they’ve shown no improvement this team has no fight against anyone but Mexico they always look lifeless and all the starters know they won’t be replaced so they’re comfortable playing bad
TW did a stupid thing, yes. But, how can we call ourselves the "giants of CONCACAF" and the "golden generation" when we cant see off at least a tie against PANAMA. Starts with the players. Arrogant, privileged, and with no backbone. US Soccer and pundits coddle these players, other than Pulisic and McK, who start for top clubs in Serie A, who is a player that is a definite starter in a top 5 club in the top 5 leagues in Europe? Richards? Crystal Palace, mid table. Johnny, Real Betis, mid table. Robinson and Ream, mid table Fulham. Weah doesnt even start for Juve because he doesnt play well, I should know, I'm a Juve fan. Balogun had an awful season, and Monaco isnt winning anything and making UCL in a poor league like Ligue 1. Turner doesnt even start for his almost relegated club. Adams, Bournemouth, mid table. And don't get me started with the guys playing in the Eredivisie, thats not a top 5 league. Yes, this might be the "golden generation" based on talent and potential, but what have they done on the pitch that the past USMNT generations havent done. And top of that you add a mediocre manager. A federation that doesnt seem to know anything about the sport, or it might be the opposite, they might think they know more than anyone. How can you hire this man again as a national team manager. What has he accomplished? Omg we won Gold Cup, YAY! Omg we won Nations League, YAY! Omg we barely got out of WC group stages, YAY! HAVE WE BEATEN A TOP 20 TEAM OTHER THAN MEXICO? Mind you, this is the worst Mexican roster ever, they've said themselves in Mexico. US Soccer is soft. Manager is soft and mediocre. Pundits are cheerleaders and apologists. Players are soft. This is our "golden generation" 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
