I agree with this Thomas. We don't know how the players were underperforming in this case, other than the subs .... Due to the red card. I would like to see a fresh start with a manager who will come in with some fire and brimstone.
"US still has a shot" NO THEY DON'T!... that smug cocky attitude of many US fans is what makes lots of neutrals root against the USA, because of that brash assumption that the team is much better than what they really are, have you forgotten the recent showings? against T&T, Jamaica with that last minute own-goal miracle, and 2 weeks ago the humiliation against Colombia? Please get off that high horse Mr Bretos, you, who petulantly predicted a final run after defeating Uruguay, Brazil and Colombia!!
I love it because, this is your immediate reaction. We all know Timo does the work of about 2 to 3 players on a regular basis, so in retrospect, it was a huge mistake on his behalf. Not like Weah… we needed him.
BS. You can bunker without putting in extra defenders, especially if you have to play 1 down for 70 minutes. Yes you have to get players behind the ball, but you put players in that can defend and counter attack, which makes taking Balogun off inexplicable. As does taking off Gio for CCV. Gio should have stayed on, or brought in Musah so he could counter. Putting in Pepi when you have Haji and Sargent both better at counter attacking is inexplicable. So defending Berhalter by saying every coach would bunker doesn’t excuse Berhalter looking like he’s never managed a team down a player.
I thought the third cb did help we cut the crosses down significantly in 2nd half compared to what we saw at end of first. Tough loss but in a way in puts us in a knockout game one game early. I hope to see same line up with Aronson on for Weah and Haji coming in late if we need some north/south running
Weah what were you thinking bro? You can do that in a friendly but not in a major tournament not to mention a match that can seal you a spot at the quarterfinals man You let your country down, your fans down, and most importantly your teammates down dude 😭
Lack of preparedness, lack of discipline, lack of response are all on ggg. The red card is on Weah, but not the entire loss. If ggg doesn’t have this team steeled against CONCACAF CONCACAFing, then that is on him.
Dest had a red, lost to T&T, barely beat Jamaica, get hammered by Colombia and now this. It's great to beat Mexico but where are the signature wins? A tactician and a disciplinarian is needed, not a coach who the players like.
That stupidity has cost USA the classification being local, because Uruguay is top 2 on this tournament. That is a player where you need to buy him a ticket and say "never come back".
I'm tired of everyone putting the full blame on Weah. If the USMNT was as good as everyone seems to think they are, they should have beaten Panama with 10 players. They took the lead with only 10 players. GGG's "play for the tie" tactics and horrible substitutions, and the players lack poor performances (except for Balogun) are just as much to blame. Don't go touting how good this USMNT is then blame one player for the loss.
Panama is not so bad, a match of 10 vs 11 since the beginning and changing all the strategy you had prepare for the game, it is a lot, also mentally. After all, this is a sport. Better teams usually win, but sometimes they do not. Even Brasil could not win against Costa Rica having all players.
@@angellestat2730 Good coaches prepare for adversity. Playing for a draw shows a lack of confidence in your players. The US took the lead with 10 players but then the coach decides to stop attacking and let Panama come at them for the rest of the match. Playing not to lose often results in losing. BTW, Brazil isn't that good this year. :)
@@davidbiagini9048 I think 90% of the coaches would disagree, if you are with 1 player less and you have the advantage or tie (which 1 point usually is enough to pass from group stage), then the best strategy is a solid defense, even the best teams can not score when a poor team creates a hard block in the back. But again, nothing is guarantee, if the coach would have choose to attack having 1 players less all match and lose, all other coach and people would have criticize him A LOT. The only learning that someone can take from this, is that coaches should teach their players to not commit this dumb mistakes, even when they should already knew! Because these mistakes usually ruins the whole game.
@@angellestat2730 I think the tactics also depend on the next game's opponent. If you are playing a weak team next, then maybe playing for a draw is correct because you have the confidence to beat the weak team and advance to the next round. But if your next game is against Uruguay, I believe you must play the current game to win because the probability of beating Uruguay is low. Also, this is the 3rd time in a year that a US player has received a red card, so clearly the coach is not teaching his players to avoid dumb mistakes.
@@davidbiagini9048 Again.. but there is a difference on playing a weak team when you are one goal ahead with one player less. Your strategy would be 100% correct without taking into account that early red card. Saying this. the only hope for USA now in my opinion, is that as Uruguay is already classified as first no matter the result against USA, they may protect their best players from injure and play at 50%. If that happens, there is a chance to win or draw, but Panama plays against Bolivia and that team is playing quite bad lately, so they may have more chances to win in my opinion. Anyway, USA needs to play to win the next match, it has no other way. There are all type of mistakes that players can make.. some depend on luck or skills, those acts are forgivable.. But the mistakes that are outside of the sportsmanship like that silly punch simply to look like a tough guy without thinking on your team and country, cannot be forgiven.
Yes it rests on Weah, but the coach has to adjust to the situation and he failed . It is time for a new coach ,he never has a plan for red cards ,he has proven this three times !
Assuming we do not advance, the players on clubs in leagues that start in August can focus on their clubs, and the USSF can decide who should coach the Nations League Quarterfinals in November. While be eliminated in the group stage at home is rare (there are exceptions like when South Africa was one of the worst teams in the World Cup they hosted so their elimination was not surprising), we still played or will play Colombia, Brazil, and Uruguay, who are all in the top 14 of the FIFA Rankings. Assuming we do not get a shocking loss in a Nations League aggregate against an opponent who cannot be Mexico, Canada, or Panama, we will have the Nations League Semifinals and Final or Third Place Game in March, followed by the Gold Cup in June. I do not ask for coaches to be fired, but I know that Berhalter was unpopular before this month, and I think a majority of fans will want a coaching change if we get eliminated on Monday. Having players on top clubs can be fun to watch and talk about, but here is a question I want fans including Max to answer. Which would be better, reaching the Quarterfinals of World Cup 2002 when players were on worse clubs (I did not look up what clubs those players were on, and MLS was worse then), or losing in the Round of 16 at home in 2026 when players were on better clubs? Uruguay defeated Bolivia 5-0. Bolivia had more possession tonight than we did, but Bolivia got outshot 17 to 2. We could face double-digit shots on goal for the second time in four games.

Tonight isn't totally on Berhalter it's probably about 70/30 on Tim Weah, but this is the 2nd time in recent times where you've gone down to 10 men and Berhalter had no real plan (its why i say 70/30), yes its mostly on Tim Weah, you could argue other players were poor too, it was a dreadful performance all around
@wizarddragon Balogun improved a fair bit as the season went on, his game is running into space, he's always found low blocks harder, at Monaco he mostly plays against low blocks, he's getting better against them, it's a skillset he's still developing, the US plays against mostly low blocks in CONCACAF, he's clearly getting better at it, Monaco obviously think do too, they'd have never let Ben Yedder go so easily if he wasn't, its all about how he develops now, in the grand scheme of things he's still a young player
None of these players have any fear of getting redcarded and costing the USA the match. They know Greg is their bro and they have no fear of losing their starting spot
That's twice now that a player got sent off for lashing out in an important game. That it could happen again after Trinidad in an even more important game is 100% on Gregg and the culture that lacks accountability from a nepotism hire.
1) There was ZERO USMNT Momentum. 2) Max calling Weah “average” is his showing his anger, but bringing in Wright on the left and moving Pulisic to the right will likely be a step up from what we’ve seen recently. 3) Agree that the collision with Turner was not a foul. 4) Gregg’s lack of proper reactions to the goal following Weah’s red card was as bad as Weah’s card. 5) Panama AND Canada should reach the quarterfinals, but we shall see. 6) Gregg is not good. I am not being paid to cover soccer, so I can say it. Gregg has never been a good manager. Yes, Gregg has trophies, but Gregg is not good.
If this was “one of the biggest games, ever”, then Gregg Berhalter wouldn’t be manager. Every game he manages is a wasted game that could have been used to improve the team. It is a joke how easy our group is. Just comically set up to give a free pass to the knockout stages, and yet we still may not advance. [head shaking gif]
Bro we are getting grouped. Probably going to have to beat Uruguay by multiple goals and that ain't happenin...US Soccer better fire him when we get knocked out on Monday. I don't even know why I follow this team anymore. Nothing has changed since TNT
They were going to lose even without the red card, Ber halter was the only Coach criticized at the world cup by another coach. He's terrible and got lucky against both Scotland and England.
Idk but i feel like reyna should be playing a center forward, dont think he should be a 7, maybe that's just me and pepi i feel would be more effective in the midfield
Hi Max! I would like to extend an invitation to you to come join the Canadian bandwagon as Canada made history last night by becoming only the third CONCACAF side to make it to the quarterfinals as debutants in Copa America. The first was Mexico in 1993, and the second was Honduras in 2001. Canada drew Chile 0-0 which was enough since Argentina beat Peru (2-0) the same night. This is HUGE for Canadian soccer as a whole. Man, wouldn't it be shocking if both the U.S. and Mexico not qualify for the quarterfinals while Canada remain the lone CONCACAF side whom nobody gave a chance? We shall see what will happen in the next couple of days. If that possibility do become a reality, you're always welcome to join the Canadian bandwagon as our boys hopefully will take us on an unforgettable ride as they make more history. We would love to have you aboard. VAMOS CANADA!!! LET'S GO!!!
Weah was never red-carded playing for Allegri, nor Dest for Bosz, in many more games. It's just human nature. Champions League players can not respect an MLS-tier coach. #NotRocketScience
The blame is split between Weah and Berhalter. It’s not entirely Weah’s fault because the USMNT still scored first and were ahead, and then Berhalter never showed he had a plan for any situation other than an ideal one… plus his substitutions telegraphed his panic, essentially invited Panamá to attack even more… which of course they eventually did. PS. Pete Douthit from 11 Yanks clarified what he said about you… basically that he thinks you’re a great person with a fantastic sense of humor, but he disagrees on many soccer points with you… and wanted to invite you to discuss the issues on a program.
Hi, Max... first time that I happen to run into your channel. I'm a Panamanian football fan and I'm just drinking YouTubber tears after our win today. Your channel has provided plenty and I'm hardly thirsty after watching and listening to your analysis. I want to tell you right off the bat that I strongly disagreed with your decision to whack Tony Montana. I think it was worthy that you both had a sitdown and figured out a way to broaden the drug empire from Bolivia with Tony's assistance. Anyhow, I doubt that the best strategy for the U.S. was to bunker on their own side of the pitch, hoping to at least get a point. The U.S. is simply not used to having to play that way (like the Paraguay 1998 World Cup team, for example). Yeah, Weah chose the wrong time to act like an idiot but Concacaf's "stud" had to find a way to pick him up.
Blame Panama. They scored more goals. Panama who? Americans think only about Americans. Do we even know the names and strengths and weaknesses of Panama players.
The problem is, people in the U.S think America means only the U.S. and ignore the fact that there is a North America, South America, and Central America.
Weah had a huge part, no doubt, but why do the players deel that they can act this way. They dont do it in their clubs. The in-game management by GGG was bad. Why start adams when you know he can only give you 45 min? Red cards are part if the gane, you muat be prepared for such possibilities. The fact that it's not 100% certain that GGG won't be fired if grouped is whats wronf withe the federation.
I never said there was improvement. We have been stagnant and that is why Gregg likely out if they dont make KOs. Or if they do....I was talking about the Panama game. There were a few variables involved.
What are you talking about when you say that Panama might be the only CONCACAF team in the quarterfinals??? Canada is a CONCACAF team & they will be in the quarterfinals when they defeat Chili!!!
My man, was just making point for emphasis. Love what Jesse and Canada are doing. Hopefully they can cross the line Vs Chile.. The Canucks are pretty thinned out and facing a tough opponent, but I think they make it. Honestly, I think Mexico and USA still find a way in too.
Panama had 74% of ball possession not sure what game the og watched I understand being upset about the result but the USA got out played by Panamá on this one

You’re right to be angry at Weah for the red card and he is at fault for this game. but it’s 100 percent wrong and revisionist history to act like he hasn’t been one of our most consistent performers over the past 3 years. Much more consistently than two of the other guys you named(Balo, Gio)
Put it this way Panama sucks so bad I would expect any other top team in concembol being down 1-2 men to still beat them. This shows poor coaching and poor talent from the us I mean Panama is a concaf bottom feeder
This falls on Tim’s idiocy, but let’s not forget who is at the helm. You think he does this crap with a disciplinarian in charge? By the way, been awhile since I said you look just like Rob Dickinson of Catherine Wheel. Don’t you agree?? Mention me please in your podcasts!!
Few months ago I explained you in details why ALL CONCACAF TEAMS ARE CRAP and what you have done? You didn't delete my comment. You deleted the whole video! And uploaded it again 5 minutes later. Anyways, you are right. Canada will get grouped as well, just like Mexico and USA. And of course Costa Rica don't have a chance.
I know you are trying to be optimistic about the situation but reality we are screwed. This was a must win game and US fell short. There is no evidence this team will beat Uruguay nor tie them. Let be real this team in last five years is not good enough. Yes, these players in Europe and play well with their clubs. Hell we have a Champion league winner on this squad. But when it comes to country, these is mid at best. It’s time to fire the coach and get break this group of players up. This is not good enough. How long do you fans to keep spend their hard earn money and value time watching this mess? If Greg still have a job on Monday night after Uruguay beat the mess out of us, I am done supporting USMNT.
All I've got to say: play dumb games, win dumb prizes. The US is 100% getting grouped. I've been warning people about it for 6 months and have been treated as a joke for saying it. I have no sympathy for the state of the US. In 2030 or 2034, when you get your wish and the core is back in MLS, the US will not qualify again for the World Cup and it'll be back to square 1. I'll be treated like a joke for that but in 6 or 10 years when people like you are still blaming players for results and not the coaching and the system itself, I'll be on here to tell you 4 words: I told you so.
You spoke to coaches…who also suck. GGG is terrible and everybody knows it, OG status removed from your name. OG to you means ONLY GREGG. You my friend are wasting your time trying to intellectualize what you can clearly see if you watch the games. Yes Weah fucked up but we still go up 1-0. Obviously we CAN attack with 10 men. Watch the game and report on that
Is it not Gregg's job to coach players not to make stupid rash decisions? Is it not his job to have effective tactics when going down to 10 men? Obfuscation and lack of taking responsibility

Nothing wrong with rooting for your team. The ones you're talking about are the one screaming that we will win copa or the world cup.
I love it because, this is your immediate reaction. We all know Timo does the work of about 2 to 3 players on a regular basis, so in retrospect, it was a huge mistake on his behalf. Not like Weah… we needed him.
Only thing you were wrong about @maxbretos is that we’ll continue to flock here even if USMNT bows out early (which would be deeply soccer-painful).
Appreciate you Darren. Hopefully we have something good to talk about next week.
Fire Berhalter
and the players
It makes me happy that this people are slowly turning into Mexican press🤣
Good luck beating Uruguay who just destroyed Bolivia 🤣
I thought the third cb did help we cut the crosses down significantly in 2nd half compared to what we saw at end of first. Tough loss but in a way in puts us in a knockout game one game early. I hope to see same line up with Aronson on for Weah and Haji coming in late if we need some north/south running
Panama actually has a coach and it’s crazy Gregg been here for 6 years
Weah what were you thinking bro?
You can do that in a friendly but not in a major tournament not to mention a match that can seal you a spot at the quarterfinals man
You let your country down, your fans down, and most importantly your teammates down dude 😭
Weah 60% at fault, Berhalter subs terrible and rest of the team are 40% at fault for this loss
Greggs inability to build a culture of discipline in the squad is 100% at fault.
Weah at least 80% at fault
@@gunit8315 Gregg
I can agree with those numbers, I also agree with shitty culture where guys are getting red cards.
Lack of preparedness, lack of discipline, lack of response are all on ggg. The red card is on Weah, but not the entire loss. If ggg doesn’t have this team steeled against CONCACAF CONCACAFing, then that is on him.
Remember when everyone hated Klinsmann? I’m sure you’d rather have him now
I don't want Klinsmann back. Dont want Berhalter right now either. Whatever option there is I am sure is not going to bathe me with confidence either.
You can’t bunker for 70 minutes and expect to not concede my friend. They had momentum, should’ve kept up the pressure, after the first goal by Flo.
Brutal
November 27, 2023 seven games ago, Sergino Dest lost his mental composure that cost USMNT a lose vs Trinidad and Tabago. Since that time USMNT Gregg Berhalter records is 3 wins, 4 loses and 1 tie since The question we need to ask ourselves as fans are we better off the last year with Gregg Berhalter?
Fuck that,FUCK THAT,GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE,FUCK!!!
Okay with withdrawing, but not a 5-3-1. 4-4-1 would have been better.
Actually I thought Balogun played well and showed some urgency but he got subbed out when we needed a goal.
@@wizarddragonwe did need a goal, and he delivered. Then we need another goal, but GGG subs him out. Sad.
Mosse knows his stuff, the other dude in the show, not so much. Clint is a legend.
LET'S GO!!!
Count me in.. Make some room
Usmnt too worried about future music careers and bringing boom boxes to training...
Weah was never red-carded playing for Allegri, nor Dest for Bosz, in many more games. It's just human nature. Champions League players can not respect an MLS-tier coach. #NotRocketScience
Hey Hey
Ho Ho
GGG HAS GOT TO GO!!!!
Pepi doesn’t deserve to be on a national team if he can’t score that goal a high school striker could finish that
The blame is split between Weah and Berhalter.
SOSA!!!! Glad to have you tune in Harry.
You are wrong Breto! Where is the improvement in 5 years?
Feel free to do a deep dive of a team getting a red card 20 mins or less into game. I think you will see many a similar result. For the record, I am on Panama bandwagon. Vamos Marea Roja
Panama played a physical but the referee, killed the United States tho.
3G has to go.
Fire Gregg
Max the players are a fault yes. But who holds them accountable? The answer is the coach. The team has played worse not better in the past 2 years
the fans should do it as well
@@samplingmastersxlr8660 yes but let’s be honest the fans can’t make a player that is playing bad be put on the bench. We can say they need to play better and do everything we can. But ultimately it’s the coach.
@@watupclown the fact is that we wont do anything regardless of the coach
the talent is good enough
@@samplingmastersxlr8660 I mean I don’t think I can disagree with how much they have let me down since GGG has come back it does make me think maybe we do just suck
@@watupclown the coach isn’t the main problem but the lack of talent and the very limited player pool
Gregg DOES have a share of thr blame! Dumb subs, bunker down for a draw at home vs. Panama 🇵🇦? Take out Gio? Use a hold-up forward (Pepi) when transition offense was needed?
You’re right to be angry at Weah for the red card and he is at fault for this game. but it’s 100 percent wrong and revisionist history to act like he hasn’t been one of our most consistent performers over the past 3 years. Much more consistently than two of the other guys you named(Balo, Gio)
Put it this way Panama sucks so bad I would expect any other top team in concembol being down 1-2 men to still beat them. This shows poor coaching and poor talent from the us I mean Panama is a concaf bottom feeder
I have it on good advice that you shouldn’t listen to this guy.😊😊😊
I think 11Yanks was right about u lol.. I’m sorry man been long time subscriber but that’s a horrible take.. how are u still defending Berhalter?
It’s also on Berhalter, not just Weah. You’re delusional of you think he’s solely to blame.
Lol y wen usa lose lose people get surprised no usa people say this
All I've got to say: play dumb games, win dumb prizes.
