Intellivision is out of money and printing mauals is too expensive for them, period. The Amico Cult consider these 'physical copies' to be some type of victory. It's hilarious seeing them acting cocky now, despite the fact that there's been 3 delays and there is no launch dates for the system or games PLUS Tommy has lied on almost every single thing he said about the system (games will be on SD cards, no crowdfunding, games are exclusives, pricing, etc). It just goes to show how oblivious they are when they make these facepalm worthy announcements and tag Pat & Ian in them.
Not surprised, but disappointed. An SD card and a Manual would be an actual release. Even if the SD card has to be updated when the Console is plugged in. It's a "code in a box".
Pat, you and Ian had it figured out, and fair about it, since the beginning.

My teenage son overheard this video while I was watching. He asked about it and what it was.
1. He had never heard of it(and he games everyday)
2. After watching their videos, he wasn't impressed by the games, console or controllers.
3. Most importantly he said "It would be better to just get a Switch."
That says it all.

My teenage son is also a 54 year old dentist.
Few people even know this thing exists pat is one of the biggest youtuber that talks about it the amico is flying under the radar and formed a small cult.

The reason why there are no manuals is only because THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW THOSE GAMES WILL PLAY because most of them are not even 10% done.
Honestly I didn't want to call this a scam, but it sure does looks like one now, think about it, I'm starting to think the master scam was to create the illusion of an upcoming console, create cheap merchandise around it, sell the merchandise at ridiculous prices taking advantage of hoarders and nostalgic boomers, artificially inflate the "value" of the collectibles by creating a fake "scarcity non issue and drama" pretend to be friends with every shill, then blame the haters, and evrything else, shut down the proyect (and since the shills are in love with Tommy they won't be upset, they will say "hooo poor tommy") and then auction the few "semi working amicos" at ridiculous prices, I think the investors are mostly fake, the employees are fake, ofices are rented, green screens are being used, not a single dime was spent on publicity because the shills helped creating the fake hype and maybe he spent around 1 million dollars on the whole scam and he will be the only one getting 10x return for that just in merchandise and auctions, it might sound farfetched but Tommy has demonstrated to be an absolute clown that should not be trusted.

I would be extremely wary of preordering anything from Intellivision. This modern revival of a very old company has done nothing to earn any confidence or trust from the public and presumably have very little money since they have released no major products. If the company goes under and the Amico doesn't get manufactured, nobody will get their money back.

Tommy confirmed that both the Limited Edition and Standard versions have the same content, so the only difference is the front of the box saying "Limited Edition". Wow, stunning. Since the games get downloaded, then it's not "limited", digital games are not limited. Also, which soccer Moms and the Wii-family targeted audience know what NFTs are or how that all works? Even the gamers don't know. I guess nobody cares about private information either because blockchain means your name is on the game forever as all transactions are recorded in the database. How secure is that blockchain? I'm sure the Amico community are asking these hard hitting questions and are totally not hailing Tommy as being "brilliant" and ordering multiple sets of games but Pat/Ian and everyone else who were right all along and asking real questions only "want to see this fail". 🙄

This is in my opinion is the final nail in the coffin for this "console". The Amico could have at least become a niche product that attracts some collectors and retro gamers if it would have some type of physical media even if they would only sell their games on regular sd cards or usb sticks and not even develop their own individual cartridge-format but as a complete download and digital only console forget it. If someone wants a digital only console he is way better of to get a cheap china handheld or console with a ton of roms of actually good classic games on it than to buy an Amico that is likely more expensive, less powerful than most china knock off clone console and will have shittier games with a very limited library

Selling the early chance of possibly getting a finished mobile-quality game at some point in the future for $20 a pop (only if you buy a bundle of 4, because why not railroad people into buying shit they don't want?)...wow, sign me up for that!
They're gouging collectors for all they've got before they fart out a short run of cobbled together hardware, those initial 8 games, then they'll blame the haters for dismal sales and shut it down. Those true believers will get left with a half-functioning lump of ancient hardware and a bunch of shitty tat that probably cost Intellivision a few dollars to manufacture. The games will probably be made available for a few months before the servers get taken down forever, and Tommy and the gang will walk away with whatever they were able to skim off the investment they managed to attract for ancient hardware repackaged in a shitty looking shell.

I still don't understand why Tommy couldn't just be honest about this from the start. You guys have been saying it from the beginning what these "physical products" would be. Yeah they probably would've lost sales but at least it would've shown *some* respect to their customers by being honest about what they're selling. Well, I think the reason for his dishonesty is his ego. People like that can never accept their mistakes or shortcomings. The original plan was probably to have real physical media, but it didn't pan out. Instead of saying 'Hey we originally said it was going to be cartridges or whatever, but it just wasn't possible so we changed the plan', he just doubles down and makes a fool of himself.
Does Tommy Understand that a digital key that requires you to buy a physical product is worse than both a digital key that you can just download, and a physical game that you can install offline? Most games aren't released in that format because it's obviously the worst of both worlds. This isn't a selling point for anyone with who isn't already invested in this cult.
It's unsurprising but such a strange thing to do. The comments on the reveal are from a parallel universe I swear, nothing but praise and support for this madness when I checked. It's mixed up with the NFT fad and is a hollow piece of cash generation. It's either madness or a deliberate grift at this point.
Given how sketchy this whole thing has been, I'm going 50/50 that the comments might be from staff, investors, and other people connected to Tommy in some way.

Most of what they've done hasn't made sense from a business standpoint. Just add "Videogame company trying to create an aftermarket for digital games before selling their first game" to that list.
I doubt this is about generating capital via sales. This seems like investment bait. First the NFT thing screams venture capital buzzword. I can almost guarantee that these will 'sell out' regardless of actual sales and those numbers will be floated in an investment pitch. And considering the cost of production vs the amount they're selling these for I would imagine they'll be bragging to possible investors about the profit margin on Amico and the huge return on investment it represents.
Even MOST of what we’ve seen so far looks like investment bait. Especially the last “office” video. Tommy was even told by someone on AA forums, if you want me to buy your product, approach me to me like a potential customer and not an investor. This is the main reason he attracts a handful of fanboys with loads of positive speculation, because they have the investor mentality.
I honestly feel bad for the people that expected a physical game and are now getting this. It’s easy to be fooled by a product you want to be good. Im talking about the guys that don’t listen to the podcast and such, but it just makes my heart sad to know this is going to fool people that just want to connect with an era of gaming they enjoy. I grew up with the gameboy, so if a similar situation was going on with that console it would probably have me really heated lol. Instead we just get the reproduced games galore

Pardon my ignorance, but since the game covers have ESRB ratings on them, does that mean they have to exist in playable form somewhere? If there's no functioning unit to show off yet, how are they submitting games for ratings review?
From my understanding, games can be rated prior to them being completed.
Years ago, all you had to do was submit footage of the game's most extreme aspects in the various categories; violence, gore, use of tobacco, what have you. It didn't have to be from a finished game either but a work in progress would do. Today, I don't know if that's still how it's done.
@@BenHughes81 Pretty much. They almost never play games before rating and only play them if there is a dispute post-release (like a parent finds an AO sex scene in a T-rated game). For games this simple (because these are basically mobile games), they can probably get by filling out a form without any video or screenshots.

The real mystery is why pat is unable to move past the Amico, its like he has a very unhealthy obsession about it.
The bundles thing is pretty bad. I mean 20 dollars for a game if you have the console on pre order anyway, I mean why not at this point? But 80 is a completely different ballpark and they are asking for trust that people just won't or at least shouldn't have in them.
If the price for the games is 2.99 to 7.99, then $20 is quite the markup for some cardboard and a coin.
I get the feeling if the Amico does come out preservationists will have this console hacked in a week

Here is why I say this proves the Amico team has zero damn clue what they are doing....I can buy an SD card slot for use on a board for less than $2 off Chinese seller sites and that isn't even bulk pricing, and how much is a 1Gb SD or MicroSD card these days? Less than a buck last i checked.
The fact that this bunch is so damn clueless that it never occurred to them to simply have a card slot put on the system and have the media loaded on cards just shows that they are either 1.- completely incompetent when it comes to basic design, or 2.- Know this thing is a flop and aren't even willing to go to the trouble to buy even small runs of SD cards and cases to put their games on. either case makes it something I'd avoid like an STD.
You could do that exact ownership transfer thing with the same data structures, algorithms, and encryption that consoles have been using for decades, and in turn do it in a far cheaper, and more importantly, far less horrible for the environment way than mining on a blockchain. You don't need to use anything approaching NFT to do that.
NFT is a modern Approach to collectibles that can offer more than pure digital can.
@@thegamelibrarian1681 Again, if you want to make your game's tradable and sharable there are a large number of ways to implement it with the same exact result that are exponentially cheaper and better for the environment (since blockchain costs grow exponentially). Theres no reason for this to use NFTs regardless of your thoughts on them.
Also I'm well aware what an NFT is. I'm not getting into a debate on the internet on this. TLDR, they are horrible for the environment with barely any benefit and thats all Im saying on that subject.

I think the one thing I dislike about physical switch games is that they do not include a manual but you see the clips for them inside the case.
True,as with most of any software, these days. However, certain publishers of Switch physical games very often do put in Manuals and stuff in there. Nicalis, Nippon Ichi (sometimes), XSeed (often), and certain Limited Run stuff. But the majority everywhere, these days, yeah, no manuals.
In fact, as a little bit of trivia. Nicalis, at launch, produced the first Switch cartridge for which the box came packed with a full manual. Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+. And the manual itself was also designed in the exact same style as the original Legend of Zelda for NES.

With a proper design document that is followed by the dev team with no scope creep, a manual would and should have been included in each box.

I think Tommy is making a mistake. While he may have a technicality that keeps him from losing a lawsuit, that may not prevent one. Even winning lawsuits is an expensive endeavor (part of a reason there have been pushes for "loser pays" legislation. That's also why you will see companies settle while still admitting no guilt. Someone will purchase this and take the "physical media" part literally and drop a lawsuit on Tommy, sapping his remaining cash.

If it works the way John Riggs described it, there is no nft or blockchain involved. It's just a code that authorizes it to the machine. No different than activating Windows 98.
He said the download and license is tied to the card. In theory, you sell the card and you sell the game. I buy it from someone, tap it on my console, it then downloads the game to mine. But, I wonder if it removes it from the original console? Also, does it check to see if it's off the first console anyway. If not, I can buy all the games, add them to my console, take it offline, and sell the games.
Or just copy the codes to blank rfid chips and sell them cheap on eBay.
I just happened to see the UA-cam video of this right after it came out (it was suggested for whatever reason). I saw it about 3 hours after the video came out, and surprisingly it was still mostly positive in the comments. There was a lot of fan boys in the comments, and then some calling out the NFT aspect. It is amazing how delusional some of theses people are, many fan boys who clearly have no idea how NFTs work.

An interesting question someone raised is how the hell the ownership transfer would even work. Why does this need to be NFTs, when it could theoretically done with a database? Even more so, what would happen if you disconnected the first Amico from the internet before letting the ownership transfer?? If these games can be played offline, then you'd have to make sure you can't just copy games infinitely by cutting the connection on the first. If it would somehow require both to be turned on and connected, then your whole ownership transfer thing is worthless.

The VS has been delayed until January. At least for the US & Canada.

The reason the VS isn't making it to North America is because of a cargo ships being backlogged for months. Compare this to the Amico where they have ZERO consoles manufactured and they can't even start until they get their FCC certification. People keep asking Tommy for the FCC certification number and Tommy keeps pretending he didn't hear the question. He dodges most questions with "we have an agreement with a major influencer for an exclusive reveal" but he can't say the certification is something he's holding back for marketing. By contrast, Playdate shared their FCC certification (that anyone can look up on the FCC's website) back in July before they took a single pre-order.

It's because most will end up in the bin, so it's good to know they will break down quickly in landfill, or be recycled into something more useful like toilet roll.

You will be able to buy individual titles in retail and online.
I want to give them a break because there is very little innovation and very little real competition in the videogame space; everything is kinda the same, just different exclusives. However, the way Amico does things has me rooting against them.
I just want to say that I am the target audience for the Amico and I can promise you that I will be staying away from this thing and Tommy's huge ego.
What exactly makes you the target audience? I've been struggling to figure out who they are. Is it a matter of you playing on an Intellivision when you were younger and now having young grandkids that enjoy simple mobile games?
@@Joric78 pretty much. and I still play games and find myself buying all the mini consoles that have been released and playing retro style games more on my PS4 then modern games.
If there's one positive thing I can say about the Amico it's that it has made me retroactively view the Ouya in a very positive light.
I like John Riggs videos but as a friend of Tommy T of course he is going to give it good words which makes him look like a bit of a shill for the Amico it’s a bit disappointing.

Tommy wouldn’t let anyone give a honest review anyway always being in the room as he has the only system in existence the games looked cheap and horrible and the console is super over priced and Riggs didn’t call it out a friend review if I ever saw one.
But Riggs wasn’t paid for the promo only in games which is the same thing to me goods for services rendered so disappointing.
I love that Evercade has an Intellivision collection already.
And the irony is that the Evercade Intellivision collection will be on ACTUAL physical media, unlike this Amico tat.
The Evercade is older games. The Amico will have brand new titles available to play.. 14 titles on day 1.

I actually like the design of these visually but that’s it. It’s not the same as inserting a game. Ian made a very good point about not showing us them actually working. Packs of 4 is a joke though! Evercade is a good comparison as they give you manuals and a nice cartridge
I got an Evercade last week and I really like the presentation of the product. I also have the VS preordered, although that was unfortunately delayed (but at least they show physical products that are ready to ship and a full demonstration of their UI)

I'm still confused by who exactly is the target audience for this. I'm in the age bracket to have nostalgia for consoles (and Arcades, PCs etc) from the first generation on, but unlike Pong, the Atari 2600, Vic 20, NES, Master System etc I never even knew anyone that owned an Intellivision (I'm in Oz). That makes the retro appeal of the branding and design pretty niche to start with. Then there's the games, and I saw Riggs playing that Evel Knieval mobile game and it didn't look great (or even particularly neoretro). Hard to tell if it was much better than Rockstar's Gameboy Color version (it was no GTA. Rockstar's come a long way since then). I wasn't seeing any multiplayer interactivity either, which I understand was supposed to be a major selling point for the system. If it isn't offering much retro appeal, and can't offer anything significant in terms of gaming over a basic mobile or tablet (or android TV box for that matter), I can't see it being a hit with grandparents and grandchildren for "simple gaming". For that matter when my grandparents pulled out their '70s pong machine for my younger siblings in the late '80s, it was a curio that held their interest once for maybe half an hour (perhaps out of pity for people that grew up in the "olden days").
It wasn't Atari 2600-popular but it sold decently. My dad owned an Intellivision and I personally have nostalgia for it. I would probably support the Amico if it comes out. I played many of these old titles they are remaking and I have fond memories of them.
I thought the new Night Stalker looked very good and the old game was a classic for the console. Some of the other games do like trash however, including Evel Knieval that you mentionned and that terrible looking Fennigan Fox platformer that's not even based on an old Intellivision game. Damn does it look bad.
To be honest, I think I'd prefer if the whole thing crashed on itself but some of the games were salvaged and adapted to be released on the Switch or somewhere else. I'd play Night Stalker and probably Astrosmash and a few other titles for a little bit, I'm sure.
