What do you think of the price increase to $290 and $340? Do you think it is justified or just due to incompetence and Sudesh's loan? And is there *any* potential audience left at this price point?
No, no, absolutely, no…
The audience for this console is gone now.
missing a decimal IMHO, no one in hell is going to pay 340 for a console with a reported weak-ass underpowered cell phone chip from 2016 with a library of nothing more than just a handful of simple games. You couldnt screw this up worse if you tried.
For those prices you can get a Series S or a Switch or a Switch Lite. A Series S and Game Pass obliterates the Amico as does the two Switch models. Thousands of real games including on the Switch Indie games that sell for less than the $10 the Amico games were originally supposed to cost and are like AAA games in comparison.
Intellivision are just taking the piss now. They don’t have a chance
Well it may be priced more than a Switch, but thankfully its ability to play free phone games at premium prices is unrivaled by any other console. If it actually releases, that is.
Preposterous!
Only rivaled by the IPad lol.
Don't forget free flash games like Sesame Street and maybe Hallmark e-cards if we're lucky.
PREMIUM!
All the games are exclusives too!
The people at my local GameStop thought I was nuts, when I asked about the Amico. They looked it up on their website and said, “WTF is it?” Lol!!!
The year is 2037. The Amico is finally out. It is a phone app with two games that costs $1,700.
Both games are just crappy clones of Pong
In 2037 all phones will cost 1,700$ dollars
I still can’t believe Tommy got the Noble Peace Price because of The Amico, a tremendous achievement in addition to his 33 Guinness World Records including the one for Making every game ever made…. His mother must be very proud
Tallarico & Miyamoto for President 2040
Working hand in hand
Selling a family console with one controller is the most idiotic thingS
Hmm, didn't see this pointed out anywhere else, but it's so obvious: The Amico is one of the ONLY CONSOLES THAT IS DESIGNED (visually) FOR TWO CONTROLLERS! The place for the controllers is part of the console design - there is room for two controllers and when they are placed there the design is "complete". An Amico with only one controller in the indentation sure would look like it's missing something....
Great point - it looks really dumb, but even worse with only one controller docked.
It'd be like the Switch launching with only one Joycon.
@@PatTheNESpunk
- As a sore and loud reminder of the 2nd controller that you *didn't* get! 🤣 This is PURE COMEDIC GOLD!
I'm going to be a little disappointed when this either comes out or gets cancelled. The Amico has certainly provided a lot of entertainment to many people over the years.
The craziest part is that the few supporters that they have left actually think the price hike is a good idea and are crapping on Gamestop for dropping the ball. Pure insanity.
Who is tony?
Don’t forget the GameStop preorder also included a $25 Amico gift card. So those pre orders are out even more money.
Funny how that portion of the preorder was omitted from Intellivision’s statement on the price increase. Maybe because the store will never exist?
The fucking OUYA, even with all it's issues, still managed to release at it's original price point!
This thing literally became everything it promised not to be.
I can relate.
I have no skin in this game. I was never really interested in the console. Hell, I'm not even really part of the community that this console is trying to market to (or let's be honest. Trying to scam)
But following this story through your videos has been wild, and for me personally, prime entertainment.
Me too, I almost feel like I should get one as I've had more than rrp worth of fun out of it
They keep the train wreck going long enough, they can get a movie deal.
Video game console story like Tropic Thunder.
I was never interested in the amico, or the intellivsion, but I'm honestly hoping there's a playlist from the first segment to the last, when this is all over. Please, Pat, make that happen for all of us who want to relive this fiasco. It'll be a tragic comedy nostalgia playlist.
@@ReplicA63 Here's my playlist. 63 videos and counting! As long as they keep making them, I'll keep adding them.
ua-cam.com/play/PLa5uTwOlRiyqOB1MS0rgkpUhPBNLQtoV1.html
Oddly enough, the $290 or $340 price doesn’t even include the mandatory Shipping cost (since the only way of getting it is directly from them) so the $290 is only a way for them to say the number, but will be more expensive than buying Series S or Nintendo Switch at retail, which they at least have the option for.
For 60 more dollars you could buy a Digital edition of a Ps5. Are these people serious??
But you can't play ps5 with your family ....only on amico
You can buy a used PS4 pro with a VR headset for like 150 bucks
$340 is double the $149-$179 Tommy was promoting at the start.
Pat: “You need the controller!” [quoting a cultists]
Actually, they need games. Controllers without games to play is kind of pointless. Also a platform to sell the digital games.
The balls on tommy and amico to have a price increase on 1. Something not even released 2. Something that is essentially an android device. You seriously can't make up the trash fire this is.
@@juanramos8903 And an obsolete cheap android at that. I'd have to try even with most cellphone dealers to get something as crappy as the Amico.
Funny this came out today because the past two days I've been binging the whole playlist of your Amico coverage because I just felt like rewatching. I highly recommend a second watch with the benefit of hindsight, every time you guys predict something and Tommy angrily refutes it I get immense schadenfreude, knowing that like a week later y'all were proven right every time 😭 pure comedy man. I appreciate you speaking out on this stuff, love how you said "you don't have to like us, you can hate my hair, you can think we're abrasive, but all we're doing is speaking facts". FACTS ARE FACTS america. Love it.
Despite promising that old pre-orders will keep their old prices, I fully expect a future bit on this podcast, should the Amico actually manage to come out, talking about how those old prices were NOT honored. At this point, I seriously don't expect these people to actually honor those cheaper prices.
Given the blowback Rivian got recently for raising prices on those who had in deposits, Intellivision would be insane to try it again
@@necrojoe I think it's been proven time after time that "insane" describes these people perfectly.
You can buy refurbished Nintendo switches directly from Nintendo for less money than an Amico now.
100% guaranteed to fail at that price if it ever comes out . It’s almost as if that’s what they want?
It seems that way. They took a whole lot of money from other people, governments, paid themselves 6 figure salaries and the board of directors loaned the company money at absurd 10% interest rates. I'm sure when the dust settles a lot of the high level people in the company will have made out like bandits while the rest are out of a job and the product is no where to be found.
Exactly. They never intended to work on this thing. They basically paid themselves their retirement funds with the investor's money.
@@POKEMONMASTER260 Probably yes, but they’ll file bankruptcy and never pay any restitution.
Imagine how idiotic the Amico will look on the shelf with only one controller and one empty "foot" bay on top.
That’s to bathe your left foot
For an extra $25 you'll be able to buy a cardboard picture of a controller to put in the empty slot.
@@wes773105333 Now it's $35.
Imagine selling a product without calculating a profit per unit analysis. Clown shoes business plans by Team Amico.
Well it looks like Gaming's Theranos/Fyre Fest still has some steam left. I don't think this will get released. I do think we might all get to see this disaster crescendo and collapse in a way that leaves us all talking for years. Frankly I've been disgusted by this entire fiasco. This is a blatant scam, that makes prior ponzi schemes like BitConnet look professional. This price hike is also gross and sleazy but I'm not surprised they pulled this crap. To be honest, I thought they'd attempt to top original the PS3 price of 699, but they had a drop of sense to not do that. Pat and Ian thank you for covering this. It's a story that continues to bring endless entertainment, but I know you'll top all of that with the Victory Lap video you'll release after the Amico dissolves in to irrelevance.
I cannot wait for the victory lap. Pat and Ian have been incredibly charitable and generous in their coverage of the Amico, and Tommy and his ilk did everything in their power to drag them through the mud. Frankly, I want to see Pat and Ian clap back at the UA-cam sycophants as much as at Tommy himself.
I agree dude I hope Pat an Ian clap back at all of those dopes. The cultists essentially conned many folks out of money and it's disgusting to think how bad this could have gone if no one reported this.
I’ve never seen the amico referred to as gaming’s fyre fest, that’s brilliant
The intellivision amico is not only has hit scam territory, but the physical products also makes this thing a rip-off at the same time.
"The thought of playing the Amico alone is soo sad ..." LMAO!
so the amico is sounding like "The Homer" automobile from The Simpsons with an $80,000 price tag in 1992 or so
Hmm... To buy a Nintendo Switch, an XBox Series S or an Intellivision Amico. The first two are consoles with large libraries of games from companies with years of hardware and software experience and the third is the vanity project of an egomaniacal halfwit funded by grant money that's basically vaporware.
This is so bad. This is the same exact - EXACT - tactic Scientology uses to string their members on. "OTIX is coming next year, honest, invest today".
This f-ing thing is never being released and if by some fluke it ever does.. why would anyone want one?!
I only want to on the after market to mock it and tear down on my live stream.
consoles are only as good as the games they play. The switch has 1000 games released a year , the amico will have what 10? 20?..So this whole idea that this console can compete is beyond ludicrous.
If we're lucky, and pray to the gods of ego, we'll get 6 games at launch, 5 tops. Maybe four.
There was another channel that talked to one of the game developers. They mentioned that because of all the delays, and things not being finalized with the system, it really slowed down their game development. Hard to work on development of your game when the system you're making them for can't even get things on lock ready to go.
Premium? I'd say creamulum!
The term "cluster!@#%" does not even begin to define the Amico predicament.
GameStop and the Amiico… that’s a match made in Hell if there ever was.
Wow! What a great deal. I'll save myself sometime and just flush the cash down toilet. Or on beer and hookers.
this has turned into a "premium" pump and dump
This shit's still "in existence"? AYFKM‽ I'd checked out of this mid-last year because it was such a fucking joke. Apparently no, it's still going? 🤯 Please keep mocking this Pat/Ian! 🤣
The Amico just gets better and better doesn’t it. Thanks for the amazing podcast, guys!
Don't harass GameStop employees about bullshit game systems.
Hello, Battletoads? Do you have Gamestop?
how can anyone on planet earth justify such an extreme price for such little in return.
I suspect that this removal of a controller has to do with that sweat hart Sugar Daddy deal they made that they had to pay back $100 per console for the first run. This way they can make some more cash on the side selling additional controllers that are not under that clause.
Next thing you know, the console is gonna be $400 and they'll jump on the blame war in Europe bandwagon as the alibi. I feel terrible just thinking about it.
340 is nothing for a system that let's you play phone games not on your phone. They r revolutionizing the industry by taking the free and phone out of free phone games.
Imagine paying $340 for a console that plays shovelware..
I love the hilarious irony of naming your console after the Italian word for friend and you can't even play this with a friend unless you pay extra
For $10 more I can buy a brand new Switch. For $100 LESS I can get a Switch Lite. Why the FUCK would I EVER buy this console?
So for $10 more than the cheaper one I can get a Switch, and $60 more than the more expensive one I could get a Digital PS5…..remind me why I need an Amico again?
Don’t forget the mandatory shipping costs, which they didn’t include. You have to order through them, so it’s not $10 cheaper.
God, they’re really dog paddling. They’re not gonna go away with a shred of dignity are they?
Canadian Best Buy still has the white model for sale, surprisingly, and with the new price tag. Maybe it’s not as surprising given that the corporate blogger for BB Canada is a big Amico fanboy.
Nope. They still have the old price of $339 CD, which is around $250 USD. They still haven't updated it.
The only reason I would buy an Amico is cause you guys have talked about it so much its like a relic from the podcast 😂😅
side note: when Ian leaned across and said Can I be honest with you a second? that proper tickled me 😂
Get Ian and Pat to sign it, then get it graded, then BOOM!
@@robw4613 haha the ultimate ironic console
The Amico may not be well known in the mainstream (with a handful of people knowing it for it's poor E3 showing and nothing else), but this is honestly one of the wildest gaming related stories I've ever had the experience of following. From the moment it was announced it was clearly not going to be successful, even if it did launch on time and to expectations of "fans," but it has been one hot dumpster fire and I've thoroughly enjoyed your coverage. I never thought you guys would ever cover something even more fucked up than the Coleco Chameleon, but here we are.
I worked with somebody in the past that owned a copy of Earthworm Jim 2, for the Mega Drive, signed by Tommy. It's probably less valuable after all this than a regular copy of the game.
It's insane, but worth noting that the Switch technically comes with 2 controllers for couch co-op.
Their best hope at sales at this point would be to release it as Pat & Ian's Completely Unnecessary Console.
This wins the comments.
So what you're saying, and I hate to use this term, is that fan(s) are now going in and doing a Karen routine on the poor GameStop employees who like 99% of people outside the hardcore game news arena have never heard of the Amico before.
In related news Fairchild’s channel F system is announcing a reboot of their old 70’s console, come to think of it those games would be high tech in comparison to the Lamico.
I'd just like to get one to tear it down and make a component level analysis of this thing.
@A Volpe docs and the real thing are often different beasts especially if the company is on the shady side.
The one question any kid will askabout this console when they first see it this: does it play Fortnite?
The "can i be honest with you for a second" really made this segment. I don't know why but it did!
The idea that the Amico can compete with the Switch is ludicrous. To me the value of a console is the amount of time you can play a single game on it. The Switch you can play Zelda or Mario for days, the Amico has gimmicky 20 minutes and done games with little to no replay value. Over $300 for that? No thank you.
Lol. The Amico is one dumpster fire after another. All this is going to do is burn bridges with whatever investors that haven't already bailed on it yet. You can't make this up. It's going to make Pat and Ian's victory lap even sweeter.
I agree with previous coverage... _someone_ should produce "A Certain Amico Documentary" on youtube. Pat. Ian.
Such a joke. They can’t even sustain their basic objectives - being affordable and being family oriented. $300+ and one controller? GTFOHWTBS.
I mean honestly this just keeps getting more and more sad, and yet hilarious at the same time.
For your claim to fame to be "$10 cheaper than the switch"... I mean good lord. Who gives a flip. Would it have honestly been a selling point even if it were $50 cheaper... or $100? I imagine a majority of people would rather pay $100 more and get a switch instead. This isn't the mid 80s and early 90's when it was moms, dads, aunts, uncles and grandparents buying consoles for kids and getting the more affordable options. Most gamer hardware is bought directly by the gamer, or a lot more of it is.
Just funny. Sad. And funny.
The only way I'd ever own one is if they got blown out on clearance. But they'll never make enough units for that to even be a possible outcome.
Don't forget the terrible attaché rate of the Amico. Those 6 pack in games ain't gonna help in the long run.
"But it's not supposed to compete with the Switch!" It is now. Anyone who says otherwise is a delusional fanboy. Now that this costs as much as a Switch (and a Xbox Series S), it now competes with them. If given a choice of spending $300 (or more if you want 2 controllers) on a Tallamico, a Series S, or a Switch... Which do you buy? Unless you're an Intellevision or Tommy fanboy, you buy one of its competitors.
Whether or not you like it, it's reality. Commodore killed one of its own computers, the Plus/4, by selling it for $300 (when it was supposed to sell for less than half of that). It had fewer chips than a C64. It didn't have the C64's VIC-II graphics chip, or legendary SID chip for sound. It was a 64k productivity/learning computer that Jack Tramiel wanted to sell for about $120. But he left, Commodore thought "64k plus built-in software... $300.", when you could get a C64 for less. The Plus/4 died, and died quickly.
Scamico might've had a shot at $150.... MAYBE. $300? Forget it. And worse, at the rate we're going, if Intellevision doesn't go bankrupt first, I could see a new update (Update!) saying it's $400 within 6 months.
It doesn't matter what price point they put on the Amico because the thing isn't coming out anyway.
I wouldn't even pay 50$ for this. Genuinely wouldn't. I bought the PlayStation Classic for 30$ and even that was 5-10$ too much, but I knew I could add games to it so it was fine.
Who wants this system? Families? Kids want to play Mario and Pokemon, smash bros. I think the switch is the way to go if you have kids, that's a no brainer
This is an absolute disaster. We've seen the games they have to offer and if it's "family" style games or updated versions of nifty little games for the original Intellivision, no one is going to pay that much for that sort of console. At this point they HAVE to come up with newer and better games than just what they currently have, or else its just done. Why would you want a version with one controller when the console clearly has TWO on every single advertisement and picture? There are docks for two controllers there. What, are they going to put a cardboard cutout of a second controller there? This is ridiculous, but I do wonder what will happen.
Tommy Cornholing his sheep once again and there gunna let themself get filled out
Amazing how as soon as this video was released, AtariAge removed the thread you mentioned...hmmm...
Can't wait for Ian's Premium Pumps on the Amico!! It wouldn't be the same on the Switch!
You know, since Tommy is such a [redacted, but implied motion of clasping hand moving up and down a cylinder] for the nostalga, I wonder why he didn't include little air chambers you could "pump up" the Amico on, like those gimmicky Reebok Pumps they sold in the 90s.
As bad as it looks, If it ever released and functioned properly, had a decent amount of games, I would have considered picking one up if it was about $100, absolutely no more than that.
I really don't understand why the company doesn't just close up shop already. It's over, just admit you failed and move on. The average consumer already has especially at that price point. Their "hardcore fans" will probably still buy it but how many others realistically would? This whole thing was really funny throughout but now it's just embarrassing.
Hubris always comes before the most epic of downfalls.
The day tommy admits failure to these guys is the day he's going to off himself.
Every time I hear "Bavaria", I think of slamming liters of Oktoberfest beer in a tent filled with thousands of other people doing the same. Sure hope Oktoberfest happens this year!
They can charge whatever they want..for a imaginary system….all the patents were rejected….it’s a pipe dream…..
Amico, the gift that keeps on... giving?
So let's say this gets released, forget the consumer for a second. What developer would want to get in bed with them after this mess?
You know, I really wanted to get the Amico for my father. He’s the reason I love our hobby today. He’s 80 years old and loves his Xbox Series S. He liked the idea behind the Amico. Oh well, it looks like 1) the Amico is going to be expensive and 2) There’s a very strong possibility the Amico may never see the light of day. What can you do, right? 🤷 Oh well…
You know, I installed RetroArch on my series X and thousands of old Atari, Coleco, Intellivison, NES, etc games and couldn’t be happier.
@ World of Retro Gameplay. Good Parenting. Good Kid, yes you are. I've raised 2 gamer kids myself, and Intellivision was my favorite console growing up. They played my physical Intellivisions with me many times while they grew up . They've sadly had to witness the joy, the excitement, and frenzied nostalgia melt from my face over these many months/years after being so excited after the initial announcement of Amico . They were SO happy for me, now they feel pity for me 😞(good kids though. just like u).
@Kahless. Ya. I build plenty emulation setups, but I was just hoping for a new era in a console with great IP I loved.
Already made their unboxing obsolete in a matter of days. Any other company would have focused on the games rather than prove their console exists.
I'll pick one up in about a year when I find one for $15-20...
The frustrating part is that there’s a chance that Tommy will live the rest of his life never answering to his blatant lying. Cause that’s what all this has been. Straight up lies.
Yeah let's raise the price on a console that will never be released. That's gonna go over real well.
Haven't listened to the whole podcast yet, but I can't wait for Tommy to call in again.
The GTO red one looked cool, wonder if it will come out at all? I'm glad I got nervous early enough that it wasn't too bad getting my $100 back.
Maybe they increased the price to bring families together in more debts.
Well, if they really are aiming for a religious audience, "Debt bondage" is a real thing to them.
the thing that is so obvious nobody ever thinks about it... friends and family can use ANY game as a reason to get together... IF that's what they want to do... it's not the console that brings people together....
Should I buy one amico that only plays mobile games or a nintendo switch plus one of the many GOTY nominees it can play?
I'M SO CONFLICTED!
I just want to see this thing get released now, only to see it get clearanced out within 6 months.
Phil Adam did give a new launch date.
He said by the end of this year.
Hmmm...selling a console that plays cheap games for at least double the cost? Who does that sound like? Could the next update we see be this being rebranded the Souljaboy Amico?
In all seriousness, this is an absolute JOKE, and all but the most diehard people are going to say so. When you have GAMESTOP, the biggest name in video game sellers, not only CANCELLING pre-orders, but not even ALLOWING pre-orders on their website anymore, the console is screwed. NOBODY is going to pay these kinds of prices for this system that has no real games.
Look at it like this. For the $340 model, I could get a Switch OLED. And for an extra $20 on top of the OLED price, I get Switch Online and immediately have access to a bunch of classic games for a year right there. That's not even COUNTING the fact that I have access to some of the biggest games ever: Zelda BOTW, Mario Odyssey, Smash Bros Ultimate, Metroid Dread, Animal Crossing, Kirby...the list goes on and on.
The developers who may have signed up for this before are going to jump ship because they want to make money, and they're going to see there's no money to be made here. I think what the absolute final nail in the Amico's coffin is going to be is the day the developer for the "Amico Exclusive" Earthworm Jim game announces that the game will be available on ALL consoles, including the Amico. Because, honestly, I think that exclusive game is what is keeping this console on ANY sort of life support. Once that plug is pulled, this console is as dead as the Coleco Chameleon.
Sad thing is, though, Tommy's still gonna ride into the sunset with everyone's money, and all his cultists are just gonna smile and sing his praises.
15:47 I'm Bavarian and I confirm that Bavarian cream is freaking yummy.
R.I.P. tax money going to the Amico🕯
So...for the people that were looking at getting this because it was cheaper than the regular Switch...now the pricing is almost the same and it has proven to be objectively of a much lesser value than what the Switch is. I'd say pay the extra $10 for the Switch and play some free to play games that will likely be of better quality than the games the Amico is supposed to have.
You don’t even get to pay $10 more for it. The price for the Amico doesn’t include shipping, so when you compare the only way to get Amico (direct), compared to buying a Switch at retail, without extra shipping cost, you are still paying more for the Amico.
@@akaimizu1 You are correct on that.
Haha, what a drama. Looking forward to the Lite version without any controllers. Or a super light version, without even a freaking console. You can download and play it all on your phone, which would be the very point you two made from the beginning :-D And suddenly the good old V-Tech consoles with their Winnie the Pooh games look so sleek and polished. And so real, for that matter. Oh boy. At this point, what can they even say that could turn the ship around in a positive direction? They are doomed. Why Intellivision even cares to communicate anymore is beyond me.
i guess i'll wait until they put out the amico slim revision, look forward to playing spoony the movie the game on it
I don't remember which convention it was, but it was probably 2018/2019 when Tommy talked about the intellivision and I completely forgot about this being a thing in the works. I now see that it's just a disaster lol
Who the hell is going to pay that much money for that? In a world where the Switch or Series S is basically the same price and both have huge libraries of vastly superior games. This just seems like a way to keep existing preorder money before they vanish into thin air. We all know it's all bullshit now, the nonsense about 2 included controllers which the Switch has, plus it has great games. I don't normally hope for things to fail but I genuinely hope nobody buys this garbage and these con men get no money
And go to jail.
Tommy knew about the gamestop date and told me he wasn't making them aware of it.
I hear they are including a floppy disc and cassette drive with the price increase. Talk about cutting edge technology:)
A cassette drive, but the pinch roller is daffy, the springs are at the wrong tension, and the motor is at the wrong rate.
What do you do when your scammy overpriced gaming console fails to release on time? You raise the price! Amico must be the Italian word for BALLS.
This really reminds me of the ZX Spectrum Vega+ drama. I mean, the Coleco was pretty bad, but the con was straightforward. The Amico scandal is a quagmire of bad deals, countless lies, and possible legal issues.
