i was also groomed at 16 by an adult i met online. i cannot tell you have many issues i still have nearly 5 years after i stopped speaking to him. i really wish people would start shifting the narrative from what James should have done to “protect himself” from this situation (because i don’t care about him’ or that he wished he has listened to friends or seen “red flags”) to the fact these boys will carry this experience for a long time in a way that will most definitely be harmful

If it's a woman, we assume they're overreacting or lying and when it's a man we brush it off as a joke or belittle the man or go as far as to say "they're lucky". Rape culture is definitely an issue and one society needs to take more seriously. I have friends who believe that the majority of rape cases are women lying and it's scary. I'm trying my best to challenge them on it but I don't know if I'll get through to them though.

I was a background (extra) on Degrassi fir 4 years. They used the same kids every year for continuity. I was part of the "graduating class" with Aubry (aka Drake)
I I used to go to this lgbtq+ after school drop in, and one of the workers was duncan waugh from degrassi jr high. I was at my friends house, and she was watching degrassi jr high, and we're just like "ayo that kid looks familiar" and after research it was in fact the one we knew. He's super sweet irl, he's helped me a lot with mental health shit, as well as helping me figure out housing for friends, a real stand up guy

Re: Degrassi, I went to the largest high school in my home state (Canada adjacent, wink wink) and can confirm that all the trauma, drugs, and other crazy shit WAS in fact normal for us. 8 students died during my four years. Administration was simultaneously "very concerned" about all the issues the students were dealing with AND very quick to say things like, "Well the police won't believe you, so how do you want to move on from here?" or "Are you sure you don't just seek attention?"

My HS principal literally told us if ur out of school for more than 15 days. You could be dying of cancer, on life support, he doesn’t care, you’re getting expelled and CPS is being called.

That sucks and probably isn't uncommon but that seems like a regional problem. In my area of US, we don't have that issue. I think you can miss almost a month now and it's fine. Once you pass the certain amount of days you have to have a doctor's note.

I mean I missed half a year of freshman year from a concussion and my parents weren’t reported. And then I missed several months my sophomore year for a mental health crisis and, again, wasn’t reported. Doctors notes and documentation are important

Yo, the James Charles thing is like the ProJared thing from a few years ago. Sure, maybe they said "18" at first, but that's not a go ahead. You are obligated online, especially in Jared's case of posting their nudes, to follow up and confirm this as a fact. Public profiles, licenses with other personal info revoked, literally anything. Being catfished isn't an excuse for being a creep. People wouldn't be in these spots if they weren't lecherous to begin with. They didn't care enough to actually check, they wanted to play blissful ignorance to satisfy their sexual perversions.
Obviously not saying it's wrong to post nudes or be sexual with someone online. It is wrong though, to do it so blindly and perversely that these situations arise.

The year I started HS they introduced a nationwide percentage system, so you could have like a 10% absence in each subject. But if you had a subject once a week you could only loose one class and that's it. The higher the frequency of a subject throughout the week/school year, the higher amount of classes you could miss in that subject.
What ended up happening though was that doctor offices got flooded with high schoolers needing doctors notes for colds and other mild illnesses that only really needed a days rest at home.
The system wasn't really great for the students, but it gave "sUpEr ReSuLtS" in the eyes of the government🙄

@@peachysandie yeah that's part of the problem with the whole "excused" absences thing is that it's a pain to get doctor's notes. Like if you can't afford to go to the doctor every time you get a cold or something you end up just going to school sick and spreading the crap everywhere :/
@@freakfox2954 yeah, plus if you only have a cold, you're taking up the time of your doctor that could be dedicated to a person with a serious issue. So many doctors came out in the media when the rule was introduced because they saw the incoming wave of teens needing doctors notes for the most miniscule things. Plus, sometimes you just need a day off for your mental health🤷🏻♀️

I think what’s most important regarding that last advice question is how you felt afterwards. you aren’t over reacting. experimentation is real but so is performative bisexuality in girls, it’s really common and straight girls often see wlw as just vessels for a katy perry moment and a story to tell guys later. I don’t want to imply that’s exactly what happened there but judging by the dismissal of your feelings it feels like a possibility. you are not overreacting, any advances without consent are not ok no matter how small. don’t count it as your first kiss and try to look into the future as opposed to dwelling on this moment, because speaking from experience it only f*cks with your head more. if you’re reading this hi, it’s gonna be ok

I live in Toronto too and feel the exact same way as you - it's a nightmare in a few different parts of Canada right now. My family lives in Calgary and they have an even more ridiculous premier with even more non-sensical COVID restrictions (I think they have gyms open inexplicably in spite of rising cases)...
