The consensus is that Piper's constant interjections were a major detraction from that match. Not saying you're wrong. In fact, I appreciates about you that this isn't just a review you'd find anywhere else. This is all from memory 26 years ago but Jenny McCarthy I'm pretty sure was going to be the guest timekeeper for the match and I thought the commentators explained there was a reshuffle of roles due to Pamela Anderson being nowhere to be found.
As bad as that submission-based 'I Quit' Match was, I laughed every time Piper picked up the mic and yelled 'What do ya say?!' after putting it back down two seconds prior.
I didn't know Razor beat Jarrett for the IC title in a ladder match, but after seeing it was for only 2 days on a Canadian house show loop, that makes more sense. Bret and Bob Backlund never had a Summer Elam match. I think Zane just confused that with just a regular match they had on Superstars where Backlund lost and turned hee.
That'd make sense. I knew Backlund wasn't part of the SummerSlam match, Bret faced Owen there of course in the cage, but thought he maybe got Owen mixed up for Bob somehow, since he was involved heavily in their feud by Survivor Series. His flight was supposed to take him to Tampa. I remember wondering if he might actually be flying to Hartford? He could have made it actually. I watched Wrestlemania thinking "if Neidhart is the mystery partner I'm going to shit myself. He wasn't....and good news...I didn't shit myself.
Beside Anvil and Benoit, another rumored choice for Owen's mystery partner was "Dr. Death" Steve Williams.
@@RoyStantzGood thing for Owen that it wasn't Dr. Death. Bart Gunn would've laid him out!
Come to think of it, good for Bart Gunn too. He had a few more years before they sabotaged his career.
happy to see "Jerry the Lawler" might stick around
Nobody:
Brian Zane: "I'll lay down for anybody for a quarter of a million".
I would too. Zane aint wrong there
@@heisensaul5538 it's just funny, when you hear it out of content lol. I would loose a match for that money too lol
@@bobbybr38k3r8 I think anyone in their right mind would lol
Brian's review of LT/Bam Bam has me hankering for a list of his top 8 best celebrity matches. Book it!
Mayweather vs Big Show is number one definitely
“Hits the current school” 🤣
Retro gaming hippie approves! Always great production and your wrestling insights are a plus!
Love the Hollywood video shoutout! I managed a few stores back in the day
I lol'ed when you said for taker "he hits him with the current school " lmao that was golden lol😂😂😂
Sometimes 4 stars, sometimes 5 stars?
"hits the current school" that was awesome, Zane, you're the man
The nazi twins with hair, Mongo in the fed, Billy Gunn in his cowboy gimmick... what a crazy time
Wrestling With Wregret- What did Brian Zane mean by "Fans already bolted for the door.", exactly around 19:09-19:14?...
Lmaoooo imagine thinking Chris Benoit would've ever been Owen's surprise partner at Wrestlemania in 1995
LT v Bam Bam
*You think you're special, you do*
*I can see it in your eyes*
@wulpurgis 🤣🤣🤣☠
“Pay to see Rhonda sheers massive whammos!”
That's Mania 10, but can of Coke nonetheless.
@@Pensfan5919 they were talking about the celebrity’s over wrestling at that PPV as well.
I've seen wrestlemania 1-30 on dvd also I discovered your channel today. And it's awesome I subscribed
Bob Backlund, clearly a believer in the Tully Blanchard school of quitting in matches.
It's really amazing to think that the saga of Undertaker finally getting his urn back would last all of 1995. They didn't finally conclude that story until December when he'd get it back from King Mabel.
It went THAT long? I didn't realize Mabel was involved, I thought it ended with Kama. That's wild.
@@ajk Yeah. Kama made it into the chain, then around Summerslam, I think, Taker beat Kama, but then Mabel and Mo attacked Paul Bearer to take the chain and that led to Taker's feud with Mabel that ended in a casket match at the December In Your House.
"Never mind that shit, Here comes Mongo!" god damn it, I love it so much.
The consensus is that Piper's constant interjections were a major detraction from that match. Not saying you're wrong. In fact, I appreciates about you that this isn't just a review you'd find anywhere else.
As far as the event goes, could have used a women's match (Madusa), and half the heels were vestigial parts of the main event. Surely they could have found another NFLer and had a WM2 style battle royal.
The headphones on pettigale distract you from his glorious mullet
5:43 I always liked how razor sold chinlocks or sleeper holds. I remember as a kid I had a coliseum home video of the 1-2-3 kid and razor in the baby diaper match (action zone I think?) And for some reason that visual of the chinlock stuck with 12 yr old me lol.
For a celebrity, LT did pretty good! That bulldog looked and back drop looked really good
I think that just goes to show how great of a worker Bigelow was.
10:58 Don't forget about, "These two guys..." 😂
It's funny and depressing how barren/bad this Wrestlemania is. Bless Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart for carrying the company during these dark times.
I didn't know Razor beat Jarrett for the IC title in a ladder match, but after seeing it was for only 2 days on a Canadian house show loop, that makes more sense. Between that and vacating it for a week after a weird finish against Bob Holly (of all people), I can't tell if they just didn't want Double J having a 7 month reign or give him the distinction of already being a 3-Time Champ when HBK beat him at In Your House 3.
WM7, WM 9, WM 11, WM 13... Seems like a Star Trek Pattern 😏😨😏
Sadly, WM 2 was a thing aswell
Yep in Star Trek all the even numbered movies were the best. Although Search For Spock was pretty decent.
WM7 was okay. Not as bad as the others mentioned. WM5 was worse.
@@justinmartin1831 youre right, but i remember the Mainevent Slaughter/Hogan, thats counts a little bit (even Warrior/Macho King was very cool at the time)
I love the way you highlight the matches now when giving the stars. Nice touch.
As an 8 year old, with all the costumes and crazy gimmicks, Bob Backlund was the only one who scared the shit out of me.
Give Backlund a lot of credit for reinventing himself as a crazy heel so late in his career!
17:03: To be fair, the "Flying nothing" was probably an attempt at another top rope Bulldog which was succesful earlier. :)
Mania 9 always has somewhat a soft spot for me due to its atmosphere and overall Roman theme. It felt like a spectacle even if the actual show wasn't good so it gets bonus points for me.
As someone that was actually at Mania IX, I have to agree with you. And I don't think the Mania IX card was super awful. The opener was slow but decent. The Steiners and Headshrinkers was good. Crush Vs. Doink was awesome with that ending. Sure, Taker fought a stuffed animal, and you have two very weird Hulk Hogan title matches, but that was a fun afternoon in the Caesar's Parking Lot/Tennis Courts.
Piper asking Hart if he quits when he's putting the submission on! 🤣🤣🤣
OSW and W3 are the best pro wrestling review shows ever
What barrrrrrrrr is Lawrence Taylor?
Especially the old school reviews
OSW reviews? Those guys suck. A bunch of cackling hyenas sharing inside jokes in the most loud obnoxious way possible. No respect for their audience.
I don't think I ever knew Taylor and Bam Bam was the Wrestlemania main event, I don't think WWE ever mention that whenever they bring that match up.
Bret and Bob Backlund never had a Summer Elam match. I think Zane just confused that with just a regular match they had on Superstars where Backlund lost and turned hee.
They wrestled at superstar
That'd make sense. I knew Backlund wasn't part of the SummerSlam match, Bret faced Owen there of course in the cage, but thought he maybe got Owen mixed up for Bob somehow, since he was involved heavily in their feud by Survivor Series. Also...Luger curtain jerked Mania 11 obviously, not 10, Brian misspoke on that I noticed.
When that beat drops at the beginning of the video, i can't help but get hyphy and start dancin' 😂😂😂 Love these reviews and love you Brian!!! 🤘🏾
I think it was always planned for Jenny McCarthy to come out with diesel and they just switched it up because Pamela Anderson had no room for her ego and The heartbreak kid
He’s all over the place with his star ratings too
LOL Pam preceded the Kliq
This was the good time i could still see wrestling PPVs live on german television.
And by the way... Pictures of Kevin Nash, like at 10:05, remind me in Garth Knight of Knight Rider every time. :-)
Always wondered if Bob Backlund proclaiming "I saw the light" would lead to some religious character development, but nothing ever came of it.
Kevin Nash told Vince during the build up to mania that it wasn't a good idea for them to do that spot where Shawn super kicks him because it would make him (Shawn) look like the babyface and him look bad by comparison and judging by the crowd reaction he was right.
Zane's Top 8 Worst Wrestlemanias bought me here 🏆
I still think 9 was worse, but this show is pretty bad all around, definitely a top 3 worst.
Even if it hasn't any right to be a main event, It was cool to see Bam Bam main eventing a WrestleMania show.
I'd give it an F+ or D- Its certainly better than Wrestlemania 9. I think the energy from the Shawn vs Diesel match just barely pulls it out of a straight F for me.
Glad to see you got the engine started at 22:33.
Glad you pointed out the Harris bros and that damn tattoo claiming ignorance not knowing what it meant was total bull on there part
My copy of this, from my Wrestlemania 1-13 VHS box set, is the replay of the actual PPV. As he keeps being cut to during the show, on some random set.
God I loved Bam Bam. He deserved more in WWE, just in general. Big scary brute who was a gent behind the scenes.
Love the shoutout to Hollywood Video! First job I ever had. 😄
hot take: Kevin Nash is underrated in ring
I think LT got usurped with Bad Bunnys performance as best celeb wrestling performance at a Wrestlemania. And Bam Bam carried LT a fair bit whereas Bad Bunny held his own a bit more
There was more pyro in Razor Ramon entrance. Then there was in the exploding Barbwire match.
The Fiend vs Orton at 37 was definitely a worse opening match.
