However when Foley’s first book came out he did an interview on NPR that my mom heard and she told dad and dad heard it and they both developed an appreciation for Mrs. Foley’s baby boy…and then I told them the kind of matches he does and the injuries that he has suffered. Then they started talking to me about how wrestling is fake and nobody gets hurt…and then I showed them the match…The One, you know the one. I even provided commentary from his book. The first fall, my mom screamed. The both of them are in disbelief as the cage is raised and he is put on a stretcher and I keep going from the book. And then he stands up. Both their mouths form a perfect O shape and my dad exclaims “How?”. The second fall, they both gasp, I continue proving narration from the book, when I tell them he lost consciousness they both look at me like I’m crazy. The match continues, they are slack jawed in awe the rest of the way and are fully immersed in it all. They are even talking back to the tv, they are begging him to stop…and then the tacks came out. I’m sure you can guess the rest. 1, 2, 3. “Good lord” says my dad. My mom has her hands over her mouth and she is crying. Funny thing about the Xpac and Owen match. Owen Hart was very outspoken about his hatred of the bronco buster move and as a way to rib Xpac, he laid as far down as he could so that the move wouldn’t make contact. lol.
Can you believe that Hulk Hogan has the f*cking AUDACITY to say that Mick was lazy and a bad worker?! My man Mick took more bumps in one match than Terry took in his entire f*cking career!
I have to say despite Chyna almost missing the spot, that had to be one of the best low blows I've ever seen in wrestling, the way Cornette sells it is what puts it over for me, you'd think Chyna hadn't just punched him in the 🍒 she'd ripped them off completely.
I usually think that I can remember 1998 WWE pretty well...but for some reason I always forget how big Dan Severn was for them at the time! And I don't know why! He had the coolest theme song, the perfect look, the legitimacy as both a highly decorated amateur wrestler and as an MMA pioneer, was the NWA champion while competing in WWE, and just...you can see why they wanted to strap a rocket to both him and Ken Shamrock. And yet...Dan's run was just a blip. It's Ken that really found his footing and made something of himself in the company. Is it just because Dan couldn't cut a promo to save his life?
I hope you keep doing these until there's not a PPV before 1999 that you haven't covered. These are my favorite 9f any wrestling series/segments. Great stuff, Brian!
Reupload, huh? Well the HiaC match is my favourite wrestling match of all time, even though it's far from the best "wrestling match", the same way Mick Foley is my favourite wrestler of all time even though he's far from the "best wrestler" (although I will stand by my assertion that he's the best human being ever to step into a wrestling ring). It's the ultimate condensation of pure wrestling drama- two guys who hate each other fighting to the finish, doing anything to destroy each other, with Undertaker being a cold, brutal monster, and Mankind showing a psychotic grit and refusal to give up that's practically inhuman. It was also unbelievably _real_ in a way that no "worked shoot" will ever even approach, particularly as exemplified by JR's commentary: "Will somebody stop the damn match! Enough is enough!" The moment when Mick stands up off the stretcher and starts back down the aisle, genuinely fighting free of the restraining hands of Terry Funk and the others who are genuinely trying to hold him back out of concern for his welfare because _he has a fight to finish_ while the crowd goes insane will send chills down your spine. It'll never be matched, and it never _should_ be.
My favorite King of the Ring of all time. Partly because it featured Mick Foley taking one of the most horrendous bumps I’ve ever seen, and partially because it took place about 30 mins away from where I live. PPG Paints Center is nice but I miss the Civic Arena...

The greatest thing of the cell match the refree and undertaker kept asking Foley if he wants to stop the match early and he kept saying no let's give them a good show
I feel like SHAMROCK's mic skills and personality might have also held him bk. But also, so many top draw performers on the card at that time didn't help either.
I still remember that Hell in a Cell match. There's a botch in commentary where JR says "There's chairs, there's shoes, there's taps" then he pauses because the taps haven't even been taken out yet.

Funny thing about the Xpac and Owen match. Owen Hart was very outspoken about his hatred of the bronco buster move and as a way to rib Xpac, he laid as far down as he could so that the move wouldn’t make contact. lol.
If they did that Al Snow running clothesline today it would include jet engine sounds and light streaks behind them
This Triple H on commentary is absolute GOLD
Testes 1... 2.. 3?
Can you believe that Hulk Hogan has the f*cking AUDACITY to say that Mick was lazy and a bad worker?! My man Mick took more bumps in one match than Terry took in his entire f*cking career!
The alternative name for this show was Mankind dies plus other assorted wrestling matches
No one remembers anything from this PPV other than HIAC. I completely forgot for a while that that match happened at King of the RIng.
I find it ironic that the Headbangers opposition is the one with an Iron Maiden shirt.
1:21 - 1:40 Well considering how much he loves fireballs, maybe Jerry would be the one to get the most joy out of that.
Thank you for reuploading these Brian! Starting to make a dent in the videos that are blocked in Canada
Neither can Brock, which is why he has a hype man. I don't know why they never did it with Severn.
CONTENT IDEA... how about some book reviews? You know all those books behind you? Huh???
@El Padre con Verga Larga any book at all
@El Padre con Verga Larga i prefer a clash of kings
@El Padre con Verga Larga blood and gold or steel and snow?
I hope you keep doing these until there's not a PPV before 1999 that you haven't covered. These are my favorite 9f any wrestling series/segments. Great stuff, Brian!
Literally had a one on one talk with Shamrock yesterday! Such and awesome dude
What did you talk about?
To be fair about the old advertising, 5 years was a huge difference back then verses now. Even from 98 to 2000 is a massive difference.
First wrestling event I ever attended. So that set the bar pretty high and had to temper expectation as time went on lol.
This was the first PPV I ever watched.
A friend of mine was near ringside behind the announcer tables for this event
"That's unfamiliar territory for Pat Patterson."
Lawler sure ain't lying there.
J.R. said it not Lawler
HHH should have just become a full time commentator.
I remember watching this on PPV and THAT SPOT MADE ME LOVE FOLEY!
Even with a reupload it’s great to get to a classic ppv review this early
I will always remember watching this as a kid with my father and him telling me that brian christopher was jerry Lawlers son
I always had the impression that the HiC was the main event
Xpac- hits own on the back with a steel chair lol
Owen - starts bleeding from the back of the head
Hi Brian, the classic ppv reviews are great, thanks for the reupload. But honestly I’m looking forward to your next music video.
I feel the craziest thing that people forget is that Mick came back out.. and again the next like 3 Raw's IIRC
My favorite King of the Ring of all time. Partly because it featured Mick Foley taking one of the most horrendous bumps I’ve ever seen, and partially because it took place about 30 mins away from where I live. PPG Paints Center is nice but I miss the Civic Arena...
"Look at Taka MichiNoClue, he's got a skirt on!" Jerry Lawler🤣🤣
Undertaker in his street cloths, ha. Chilling at the weekend. Popping to the shop to get some odd bits and bobs, perhaps a frozen pizza.
food for thought, when you reupload these older videos that you have rated/reviewed on a 4 star scale; you should put in an edit now on a 5 star scale as that is what you have been using most recently. thanks for reuploading this z-man
That infamous Hell in the Cell match displayed front and center 2 things:
1) Foley never learned how to work
2) Vince will literally let someone die
The Lo- down along with the frog splash were two of the most superior into the pool moves
I've done the frog splash into the pool multiple times. It fkn hurts every time
I remember watching this with my Grandpa and dad at a sports bar. They used to show the wwf ppvs every month. When Mic gets thrown off i remember the whole bar fell silent.
Imagine a match with Shamrock in his prime vs Lesnar in his
Chyna killing it on the Spanish announce team is one of my favorite gags
It needs to be set with a baseline of snappy commentary by hyped wrestlers on the normal announce team
You also set up
Someone (like Austin) going on the foreign announce teams and confidently saying stuff like
You can say that again
I honestly absolutely want Kevin Owens or Sami Zane to start a French conversation with Ray Rougeau
Maybe break out a verse of all American boys
During the last years of her life, Chyna taught English in Japan, so it seems like she had a lot of skill and knowledge with languages.
my family had just got bootleg cable box and holly shit wen that match was over , I was speechless
And then we find out he didn't taps!
As a kid I remember thinking Austin had a blood pack in her elbow wrp, he always seemed to bleed so fluid
Yeah I sort of forgot how crucial Chyna was for DX ... i remember even fearing her as a heel as well as loving her as well as a degenerate...ah those days...man used to wait like crazy for the next raw is war
Lovely stuff, Brian.
I’m sure JR was legit worried Foley might die in the ring that day
Well he was. When he screamed "Will somebody stop the damn match", he meant every word. He truly felt this was going way too far.
The fact that X Pac didn't go flying during the double top rope fall is crazy
The thing I remember about Kai & Tai is Taker using them as wrestling buddies to teach Kane the correct way to do the Last Ride. They each took like 5. Hilarious
That Paul Bearer imitation was spot on. 😂
Mick Foley is indestructible.
May God have mercy on their souls, because Super Soaker sure won't
The fact that Funk’s shoes are still in the ring even after he’s gone is so funny to me lol
Honestly in Shamrock could've came in a little earlier, what a Superstar he would've been. I love Ken Shamrock especially his MMA days. You are absolutely right, he was not used to his full potential
I've watched this before and I still spit out my whiskey when I heard Dick To Go. haha
Hey zane, long time fan of the channel keep doing what you're doing I don't know if I've ever said this before but I was in a nightmare for 5 years (first marriage) and actually went to pigeon forge Tennessee and they do this thing where they take black and white pictures of you you can look like cowboys or mobsters and stuff like that and Al Snow actually had several pictures on the wall and the guy in the most nonchalant tone said "oh Al?... He comes here all the f****** time." Lol Matt Hardy was also there too apparently he doesn't come there all the time sure Jan
We’re so desensitized nowadays. I can’t imagine how wild this must’ve been live
X-Pac in his 1st match back in 2 years since "In Your House: "Good Friends Better Enemies", April 28, 1996.
