Hi! Thank you for this video. I have a lcd display without the raspberry pi cause I only need the lcd to monitoring my pc. The thing is that to fit on my pc I have to turn the screen upside down. Is it possible to reverse the image on the lcd screen ?
Thank you for pointing out the difference between "display" and "lcd" - I have a non-touchscreen and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Problem solved!
So this definitely isn't working for me. It makes it vertical, but the 16:9 aspect ratio remains. Meaning I physically have to turn the monitor to see the display, BUT half of it is hanging off the monitor since it's still a widescreen aspect ratio. Instead of making it 9:16. Any ideas? Also, this makes my Pi UNGODLY slow. It takes 5 minutes to just revert back because every stroke of the keyboard takes up to 30 seconds to update. It's completely unusable.
I'm trying to rotate the lcd screen. I'm using lcd_rotate=2. When the pi boots up the screen is orientated the correct way. The Bright Red in the top left corner. The the blinking line in the top left corner. Then the Welcome Screen. When it finishes the boot process the screen is upside down again. So I have the rotate=2 and I have had to invert the image in Screen Configuration. Is this normally the way?
is it possible to use a script and a gyroscope to automatically rotate the screen? cause i have an old dvd player that i wanna use as a case and it has a screen that turns 180 on a hinge.
I can not get mine to go the correct way. I’ve tried literally everything here. I have it plugged into a monitor with micro hmdi to hdmi. It’s either sideways or upside down but won’t go the right way. Any ideas????? Thanks in advance
Hi, followed your instructions with a 7'' touch screen, the screen flips on boot correctly but then stays a black screen? Any ideas how to get the raspberry pi 4 to work after that (nano 5.4 used) - thanks
This is bit scary... Just few hours ago I was searching is it possible to rotate the display using that config file and now you uploaded this video :-D
A million thanks for this video. I modded an Arcade1up cab with RaspberryPi and my display was rotated 270deg. I added the line you suggested and used "3"...WORKED perfectly!!! thank you so much.
I'm trying to run an image on a Pi4 and when I rotate the screen using display_rotate=3, and disable_overscan=1. It does rotate but the image is half way off the screen to the right. How do I center the image? Thanks, good video.
Hello Bro, I looking for the tutorial as same but not exactly. In my case HMI console is flipped but when i enable GUI its actually good Do any one have an idea that how to invert or flip the console terminal or tty only it should not rotate GUI screen!

Hi, I loved your video. I would like to know if how would the procedure to rotate the screen in the RetrorangePi system, I use an orange pi zero. because there is no config.txt file. thank you.
hello, I liked your project. I also have a similar project but I cannot rotate the screen. in my "config.txt" file there is no "display_rotate" please help me.
Need instructions for SD card in laptop and not Linux if you can please. Nothing I've tried is working to far. I have the Arcade1up cabinet and display i'm using
Awesome video!! Very rare to find clarity with these kinds of things. Is there a way to adjust rotation in individual screens especially now with Rasp pi 4's dual HDMI out?
When I try and rotate the screen 270⁰ it works but a third of the screen from the right side over is cropped off and if I move my cursor too close my screen stretches and freezes. Any solutions?
I just recently purchased one of these monitors and I cannot get the image to fit the screen. It seems to be extremely enlarged and I can only see the top left of the display. I do have bezels on the image I don't know if that has anything to do with it but the bezels and everything or display properly but the actual image of the game in retropie does not fit the space in the center it just shows it very enlarged and only the left top corner
So i have the 3.5 inch touch screen and have been trying to do the lcd_rotate=2 command and then rebooting it but it hasn’t worked. What should i do I just tried the display_rotate and it flipped my hdmi screen but still nothing with my 3.5 inch display Its like it doesn’t recognize that i have an lcd display connected
thanks!! i could not get my screen rotated at all as everywhere I had read, even in many config.txt help file pages said to use lcd_rotate. A lot of bad info out there! your tip to use display_rotate worked right away. I realise lcd_rotate will rotate touch controls but most people are not using touch controls. display_rotate should be the default tip out there, and it doesn't seem to be. weird! liked and subbed. great video well done.
Hey Sam, great stuff: I have a question for you. How can I split the screen on the raspberry for VR use? I expect it is similar to this video. Any suggestions would be awesome. Keep up the awesome work.
More specifically, i'm using a lcd with driver board connected to a raspberry pi. This setup is mounted in a gear vr. I'd like to be able to connect to create.arduino.cc and program online. The split screen is more for programming, than gaming.
@@cedric6941 Yeah, it isn't able to handle VR in the gaming sense. I was hoping more for splitting the screen. So I can load create.arduino.cc and program while in bed, or on lunch break. The screen just needs to be duplicated. I've looked into Xamarin, or C#, for android, ei yei yei. I might give in and just create an android app using the C# runtime. left eye is the primary data, right eight is just a copy. I've also thought about the possibility of transmitting the buffer to each eye, then allow transformations if needed. The song "where have all the cowboys gone" but programmers instead, keeps playing in my head. I've been lookin' to learn c#. dot . dot . dot .
UPDATE: Ok have found the right command (display_lcd_rotate=3), but the Touch is still not working right. Use a RPi4 with Kali Linux AMD original 7" touch display
you fail to talk about the biggest challenge for people with 16:9 screens which is most of them. this does not work as others have mentioned because it will not fill the screen as a 9:16. Your video title and description are misleading and therefore you are gaining revenue from people watching your video not getting the help they actually need.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been typing "lcd_rotate=2" for the last 2 hours!
my problem too! it's weird how many places on the web say to use lcd_rotate when it's actually display_rotate you should be using !
For touch screan is : lcd_rotate=2 not : lcd_rotate-2

display_rotate=1 works fine, but what about the toucharea that you talk about in the beginning. The toucharea is not rotated. How am I doing that?

Thank you for sharing this bro,
Can made a video about how to calibrate the touchscreen?
Can you rotate AND flip or reverse the screen, so you could put the monitor under a teleprompter ?

Great succinct video. Is there a way to rotate an HDMI connected touchscreen 180 degrees, so that the touchscreen still works? thanks!
He said it in the video, use “lcd_rotate=#”
Thank you! this helped for my Pi4! you rock

thanks from Colombia :)
This config.txt mod isn't working with my updated raspberry pi 4 (4gb) with open auto loaded. I also don't have a mouse cursor in the OS.
Any help?
I was wondering is it the same for RPi picture?
this got me into the .txt boot but it was blank and i have no clue what to do now ?

how do you rotate the 7inch official screen running RECALBOX on Raspberry Pi 4 8gb ram ????
Also for the 7inch Touch screen, use *lcd_rotate=2* (This also flips the touch interface as well as the display) :)
Thanks for the tip!
this only works on DSI attached displays. not HDMI
Didn't work for mine. Did nothing. Display_rotate=2 worked but lcd_rotate=2 flipped back upside down.
@@IcesHouse actually I did, I moved that chunk of code to very top of file, before anything. Then worked great
How would I go about using this for a HUD setup?
how do you change the display when you have kali as an os ?
if I somehow removed the date and time from raspberry pi how can I put them back?
Thanks. Worked well
its lcd_rotate=2 doing display_rotate and teh new software didnt seem to work
Could you help me rotate the touch?

I tried both lcd_rotate=2 and display_rotate=2 but does not work in my HDMI connected touch screen for some reason :(
Done it, screen configuration then layout screens DSI ORIENTATION inverted

thank you for this. Now I can play a TON of vertical games on my pac man arcade 1up!
I just tried this, but after rotating the screen once I'm now stuck on the welcome screen whenever I turn on the raberry PI. Any idea how to fix this?
Thank you so much. Needed to rotate my screen as it has a stand but if you stand it up it’s e wrong way. I used this to fix it 😃 👍
I can get it to flip upside down with lcd_rotate=2, but I need it on it's side like portrait, and it won't do that with =1 or =3. errr.....
What is the difference between"rotate" and"flip"?
hello is very good how to rotate the screen, but how broken the touchscreen? greetings and thanks
Thank you Thank you very much
is this applicable too for the raspbian jessie? cause I had tried lcd_rotate=1 but it didn't changed anything :/
i think it because it got to be display_rotate=1 not lcd_rotate=1
I tried both but my screen is the right way around but the screen is being rendered as if it was still the old way.
So i have the 3.5 inch touch screen and have been trying to do the lcd_rotate=2 command and then rebooting it but it hasn’t worked. What should i do
I just tried the display_rotate and it flipped my hdmi screen but still nothing with my 3.5 inch display

does anyone know how to configure a LCD touch screen to work with a HDMI monitor, in other words make a Raspberry work in Dual screen mode?

doesnt work nowdays bruh

fyi if you are using a vpn on your raspberry pi and have no idea why is not rotating, is because it only rotates on the hdmi display
