Buying today! I love the review and am glad the game has turned out good, I listened to a fair number of unhappy reviews for changing direction, but I think the team deserve the credit for having the guts to finish and for pivoting so well :)
Hope you enjoy it! Re: unhappy reviews, I think folks need to remember that not every game needs to be a forever game live service. Having a title be a smaller, one-off experience is just as valid, and keeps development focused.
I bout it about a little over a week ago and I had a 5 days off and just pretty much played it every day. At 54 hours right now and its the morning so that will change drastically. This game is 100% worth it and i've been telling people to go buy it too.
Agreed! Excited to get stuck in now that I've finished Shadows of the Erdtree. Time to spend a bit more time with the endgame systems and see how silly I can make AP Niss.
this is one of THE most enjoyable games I've played over the last few years. Dropping the live-service crap absolutely was a good thing. There's way too many p2w service carp games out there so this is a very welcome breath of fresh air
Glad I waited to begin my journey again in Wayfinder. Player during the EA of the “mmo” and found myself not enjoying my time in this world. Due to the typical F2P vices. I’m finding myself immersed and enthralled in what Airship Syndicate has created now. GLHF all!
Im at 900 hours. About 830 from the early access. Im still playing, it has improved significantly since early access. Its not perfect but much much better.
Great world to run around in... although still felt a little to "mobile" for my taste.. so, once I got that hang of combat and ability cooldowns, I turned off the UI which made the world way more immersive and less "run to marker, kill, collect and come home" and more explorative which was a lot more fun! Nice review chap thanks!
That's a good advice. How much UI customization is there in the game? The only thing I need to have visible for most of the time is a health bar and if it's possible for skills only to appear when cd is done and during combat only.
The Systems around the characters, items, 'talents' and so on are numerous. Actually I bought the game before seeing your video. I just thought that if a game can make a comeback like that (you know what) then there must be a lot of dedication behind it. And yep, absolutely the case.
I'm looking forward to getting more stuck in now that my first character has finished the Elden Ring DLC. Be nice to have something a bit more chill for a while >_>
Thank you for a well done video that helps overall perspective and knowlege. A friend of mine and I just started {lvl6} we love the art style and quick combat...brings back memories of Wildstar and Firefall and what could have been :(
Thanks! I'm putting the finishing touches on a video for new players that should be out in the next day-ish depending on how much time I get to work on it :D Also, I really wanted Firefall to be better. Haven't thought about that game in forever.
Great video! I decided to buy it and I’ve been really enjoying it. Lots of content and the combat is really really great. My only nit is that I wish the world had more interactive things to do in it. Like I love the zip lines. Would be fun to have mini games throughout with those for example.
Oooh now there's an idea. Perhaps a later zone could lean into the ziplines and take a page from Jet Set Radio Future. Don't know if the engine could handle that, but it's an interesting thought.
I was initially uninterested by the games release - it did catch my eye, but something about the whole package just made me think 'meh' and move on. Now with the Echoes update - I decided to give it a try - since I do love a good coop game with my friends - and man, Im hooked =)
It's pretty grim that when a game is abandoned and corporate no longer cares about it... it ends up being a pretty good game. You can literally see the season passes in the game and how it's been changed from a grind-fest that wants you to keep playing and buying skins to a solid single player game with more content than your average, monetization truly killed triple A gaming and this game is a testament to what we could have had instead
thank you for such a well articulated, succinct and informative review! Your ability to reference multiple titles within and across genres resonated with me. You hit all of the same wants/needs in games that I look for, and just wanted to applaud your efforts here! Subscribed!
Glad you found it useful! It irks me when reviewers don't give a clear picture of the gameplay loop(s) and systems; I wanted to give the best vertical slice of the game I could while leaving some space for surprises if people wind up playing :)
Me still using my 2070 TI to play everything like I just got this computer back in 2020 it's still doing great 🤣. But that's just what technology is like I don't make money like that so I can't upgrade my computer yearly like it's a phone I can barely do my phone like that I'd rather wait at least 4 years and I'll still buy the model that's one behind because usually for some reason they dropped to like 50% off once they are a year behind. 2 years behind you can probably get the same phone for a quarter of the price and it's still going to be just as good as the newest phone. So I see my computer the same way when I bought it I told myself I needed to last at least 10 years minimum so at least until 2030 and I'll absolutely upgrade if I have to if a game comes out in my computer just cannot handle it but so far I have not run into the issue so my computer to in my eyes is fine. And if I determine a game that I can't handle means I have to play everything on low settings that's when it's time to upgrade I need medium or high settings at the least.
had the game since the 11th enjoyed it (havent played in a bit now other games took over lol) im glad the devs didnt just kill the game and from the looks of it they might be able to keep supporting past 1.0
Thank you for such an informative video, man. It's really appreciated. I just finished getting my fill of Elden Ring DLC (sorry, since you mentioned it 😄) and am in need of something a little lighter. I've been keeping an on Wayfinder for some time now and am excited to hear that it's finally something to dive into. I'm grabbing now AND am finishing the video. Good stuff! Thank you so much for taking the time to share this and I love your perspective. Clearly you have some time in the gaming world (wall walked into Hyjal!) and thus your opinion matters much more than say, others? I subbed and am looking forward to other content.
@scottsmith1652 Hey there! Thanks for the kind words; not sure why YT decided to filter your comment for approval. @RuiNobrega Thanks! This is from a few months ago, so I'm planning to take a look at the 1.0 release on stream this week and may do an updated version if needed. Last I played all the bones are still the same, but there's been a couple quality of life and content drops since this video was current.
Brilliant game so far! I’ve also been playing Niss. It’s made up for the failure that is Dawntrail… I’m honestly very surprised that there isn’t more interest.
I'm really enjoying my time with the game. The combat is great. I do completely agree with the traversal issue. Stuck on terrain, jumps that feel like I just made it but fell off, not doing the ledge grab animation when i expect it, that stuf was a bit rough. But thats a blemish on an overall great game. For the money it really is a fun game to throw on a podcast and grind some dungeons.
I've been having Wayfinder at my wishlist even before the game was out as f2p. I'm glad I didn't tried to game when it was still a f2p though. All of the classic f2p microtransactions and systems were bogging that game down. Now I just wait for sale to purchase it and have some fun with another game from the Airship studio. Ps: What do you recommend when playing the game? Focusing on main story or trying to get more heroes out to play as(I really like how that barbarian gal looks like, gameplaywise I'm also interested in the poison gal and the...wizard?)? After all after the main story even more things open up. I agree with your take on graphics. What is important for me visually is art direction instead. That can boost the visual aspect of a game BIG TIME.
Focus on what’s fun for you. It’s primarily a singleplayer game, so who cares if you play the meta, take forever to finish the story, or keep up with what other players think? Enjoy having a quality game that isn’t bogged down by much of the usual nonsense 🙂
I remember buying the founders pack to the original game and was bored when I hit the endgame. Hopefully echos will serve it better. Did founders packs players get a bonus on the Echos?

Fantastic in-depth review. I have one of the lower tier founders packs and while the combat is solid as it was on launch, the world feels empty without seeing another player in the town or partying up with. It should be coming back to PS5 once DE and Sony sort out the transfer of license. No timeline there, but last I heard they were hoping for by the end of summer.
Last I knew, there was a party browser / LFG system. Haven't tried it since I'm continuing to evangelize the game to my friends, and I'm usually playing with them to make the acclimation process a bit easier.

Thanks! Pretty pleased with how it turned out. Shocked the game isn't getting more coverage, it really does scratch the character action + looter itch perfectly :D
Meant it more that I'm pushing that to run the game while streaming/recording and there weren't performance issues. Does sound a bit fwp now that you mention it >_>
It was already on PS5 before the separation from their publisher. Last I heard we're waiting for DE to either transfer the license with Sony over, or for Sony to approve a new one with Airship. Unfortunately, only timeline there is Soon™.
I personally think this game isn't fun overall ,( I`m level 30+ ) too much repetition . I definitely needed something enjoyable , this isn't it. I wish something soon will show up, I want to get engulfed into something that gets progressively better.
...you do know that completion and enjoyment are separate concepts, yeah? WF is at its best as a game you drop in and out of over the years instead of letting fomo get to you and treating it like a 2nd job.
@@baldsquidgaming Its not about fomo. Its about the game being disjointed without actually committing to it. You can't do most of the things unless you dump hours in the game. Sure, you can play 5% of the game from time to time for....some reason. But you described Warframe as a whole low commitement.
Eh, it's not that black and white, imo. Warframe has generally done right by players (fringe opinions there exist) and their wallets, and it's been doing the live service thing since 2013. Sure, they're the exception here, but it's worth noting.

Thanks! Pretty pleased with how it turned out. Shocked the game isn't getting more coverage, it really does scratch the character action + looter itch perfectly :D
"my aging 3080ti" 😭
Meant it more that I'm pushing that to run the game while streaming/recording and there weren't performance issues. Does sound a bit fwp now that you mention it >_>
are you for real ? 3080 aging ? im rocking a gtx 970.... that is aging :P !!!
Is this coming to PS5?
It was already on PS5 before the separation from their publisher. Last I heard we're waiting for DE to either transfer the license with Sony over, or for Sony to approve a new one with Airship. Unfortunately, only timeline there is Soon™.
It might actually be out already but they plan to release on XBox and PS5
Nice.
I think there needs to be a new genre, games for 40 year old plus men
Ageing 3080, that hurt man! As Im playing thevgame on my 1060 😂😂
the 10 series punches far above their weight; that's what I had before swapping to the 3080 :D
Ageing 3080ti
I personally think this game isn't fun overall ,( I`m level 30+ ) too much repetition . I definitely needed something enjoyable , this isn't it. I wish something soon will show up, I want to get engulfed into something that gets progressively better.
This game smells
very damn good. :3
Had me in the first half =p
It's hard to take you seriously when you call a 3080 "aging". Thats still a respectable new card!
Also the game plays a lot like dauntless
@user-bl5zv6ct1w Never played; I was in deep with Monster Hunter around when that released. Heard mixed things, worth playing?
Try dauntless for a bit and you’ll see how accurate it is. I don’t have any problems with it tho.
,,Low commitement like Warframe...'' I stopped taking this video seriously afterwards
...you do know that completion and enjoyment are separate concepts, yeah? WF is at its best as a game you drop in and out of over the years instead of letting fomo get to you and treating it like a 2nd job.
@@baldsquidgaming Its not about fomo. Its about the game being disjointed without actually committing to it. You can't do most of the things unless you dump hours in the game. Sure, you can play 5% of the game from time to time for....some reason. But you described Warframe as a whole low commitement.
algo
All game as service are trash so the decision's very good.
Eh, it's not that black and white, imo. Warframe has generally done right by players (fringe opinions there exist) and their wallets, and it's been doing the live service thing since 2013. Sure, they're the exception here, but it's worth noting.
u lost me when u said aging 3080............
No devs lied. The game is boring. Play Wuthering Waves. It’s amazing
anime garbage
